According to the Dubai Health Authority and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai hospitals can sponsor medical tourist visas to overseas patients who wish to seek treatment in Dubai for a period of 3 months extendible twice — up to nine consecutive months. This aimed at unifying medical tourism procedures for the emirate.

The Shoura Council formally approved a proposal to set up a sovereign National Reserve Fund (NRF). The proposed fund would be used for the investment of surplus amounts from annual budgets for the betterment of future generations and offset possible budget deficits. Saudi Arabia’s budget surplus in 2011 amounted to SAR 306 bn (US$ 81.6 bn) against SR 108 bn (US$ 28.8 bn) the previous year. Economists expect a budget surplus of not less than SR 12 billion (US$3.2 bn) this year.

The German Embassy along with three other organizations would be launching an exhibition of the German Energy Agency (DENA) on renewable energies in key cities of Saudi Arabia. The 18th annual conference of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is to be held in Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah from Monday through Dec. 7. It will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Riyadh Monday through Nov. 28 and later in Dammam on Nov. 30-Dec. 2 and in Jeddah on Dec. 5-7.
