COURSE OVERVIEW OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this course is to sharpen the students’ visual communication skills, serving as an instrumental basis for incoming physical planning studios and their incorporation to the professional practice. The course is intended for planning students without any design background; it combines lectures, readings discussions, field trips, software workshops and applied exercises. Looking at graphics as a powerful tool to visually communicate plans and designs, the course provides an analytical framework and a set of tools to operate at very different scales and reach diverse audiences. The semester comprises both individual and teamwork, and it includes several reviews with invited guest critics. Apart from the intermediate assignments, each student will be responsible of the design and development of a final portfolio to showcase all the work developed over the semester. 1
