Typology: Cultural
Location: San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, Mx. Year: 2019 Awards: Outstanding Projects Exhibition Fall 2019 UDEM A redefinition of what is known as a Cultural Center in San Pedro 400 neighborhood. Cavity breaks with the stereotypes of having a space in which interior activities govern, forgetting the exterior. The project revolves around the concept of linking the indoor and exterior environments by dividing volumnes and creating various open spaces. The vision of this project is to create a fractional space, promote the need to spend time both indoors and outdoors, and provide a district with different services.

THE SITE
24
Description. The site is located in San Pedro 400 neighbourhood. Within the area there are houses, local businesses, schools, and an abandoned cultural center. A high school and a park serve as boundaries of the site, therefore a connection between these services is a powerful strategy in the project. The challenge of the site consists in the land slope and rocky surface of the mountain.

Description. The site is is located within downtown Monterrey, Mexico. The focus area holds residential, commercial, industrial, service activity among others. Much of the commercial activity comes from local business in which this project aims to respect in order to help connect and revitalize. The majority of people who move around this area do it by car, which creates congestion throughout the day. Moreover, traffic lights in the study area are poorly synchronized and there are daily car crashes. Subway Station

The existing street design is allocated to personal motor vehicles, either moving or parked. Having as a priority the car, traffic congestion and drives at high velocity occur, causing less security for pedestrians.

In the multimodal street, the capacity of the street is increased by a more balanced allocation of space between the means of transportation. The redistribution of space allows for a variety of non-mobility activities to happen such as resting and entertainment areas, bus stops, bike lanes, and vegetation.
