Y 2019 ES TU AÑO "Todo objeto en movimiento, tiende a permancer en movimiento, y todo objeto en reposo, tiende a permanecer en reposo."

Siempre que veo una fotografía de la década de los sesenta o de la de los setenta, me sorprendo. No es la ropa ni el cabello. Me sorprenden los cuerpos. Mucha más gente era delgada. En 1976, el 15 por ciento de los adultos estadounidenses eran obesos. Ahora esa cifra es de casi el 40 por ciento. No requiere mucho genio entender que nuestro “entorno obesogénico” apunta como causantes a los sospechosos de siempre: la proliferación de comida rápida y snacks baratos cargados de carbohidratos; compañías que producen productos tan sabrosos (y dañinos) que son adictivos para nuestra propia desgracia; porciones más grandes y la tendencia a estar comiendo todo el día. Sin importar cuál sea la combinación de factores, algo en el entorno está haciendo que la gente sea tan gorda como lo permite su perfil genético. La obesidad siempre ha estado con nosotros, pero jamás había sido tan común. Todos —desde los médicos hasta las farmacéuticas, desde los funcionarios de salud pública hasta la gente obesa— quisieran que hubiera cura, un tratamiento que nos haga tener un peso normal y lo mantenga así. ¿Por qué nadie lo ha descubierto? ¡Y no es porque no lo hayan intentado! Sí, algunas personas han logrado pasar de gordas a delgadas con dieta y ejercicio, y han mantenido a raya el peso. Sin embargo, son la excepción. La mayoría pasa años haciendo dietas que la hace bajar y subir de peso, un ciclo frustrante y sin resultados. El problema radica estrictamente en nuestra cultura de soluciones rápidas y que no requieran ningún esfuerzo. Es mucho más atractivo una pastilla que acelere nuestro metabolismo digestivo y "queme" 1000 calorías sin moverme del sofá mientras me como una pizza, al mismo tiempo que maltrato mi organismo con químicos que traerán más problemas sumados a mi obesidad. Sin mencionar las

grasas, azúcares, colesterol y cuánta otra toxina arroje a mi organizmo mientras continúo con mi "dieta de la muerte". ¿No sería mucho más inteligente escoger mejor mis alimentos y realizar alguna forma de actividad física? Imagina que no sólo quemarías esas 1000 calorías, sino que además nutrirías todo tu organismo con elementos que impactarían no sólo tu cuerpo y tu peso, sino además directamente sobre tu mente, tu memoria, tu nivel de stress, tu estado anímico, tu vitalidad y energía, tu voluntad, tu autoestima y tantas otras cosas más. El problema es que este círculo vicioso de buscar lo fácil y cómodo, es el producto de una mente y voluntad debilitadas. Y dando la vuelta nuevamente al círculo, nuestra mente y voluntad están debilitadas como producto de buscar lo fácil y cómodo. Y esto invariablemente nos lleva a un estado de frustración ante fracaso tras fracaso, a un nivel de autoestima que está por el piso, a un complejo de inferioridad, y tantas otras terribles condiciones emocionales que no nos dejan romper con este ciclo fatal. Pero en alguna parte debemos romper con este círculo de autodestrucción, y comenzar a vivir el estilo de vida que muy bien sabemos que no solamente nos haría perder peso rápidamente, sino además sentirnos más saludables y fuertes, con mayor energía, multiplicar nuestra claridad mental y nuestras facultades emocionales, intelectuales y espirituales. Todo este extraordinario proceso comienza con una simple decisión. Existe una ley de la física que dice: "Todo objeto en movimiento, tiende a permancer en movimiento; y todo objeto en reposo, tiende a permanecer en reposo". Es decir, a forma de ilustración, arranca tu auto y córrelo en la calle a 45 mph. Una vez que comienza a moverse, tiende a continuar avanzando hasta que le pongas los frenos. Por otro lado, deja tu auto apagado y estacionado donde

está, y notarás que de allí no se moverá, tiende a permanecer en reposo. El mismo principio aplica a cualquier aspecto de nuestra vida. Comienza a hacer algo, toma una simple decisión, y actúa en ponerla en acción; notarás que la tendencia natural consistirá en continuar esa acción. Ve un día al gimnasio o a caminar por 20 minutos, y verás que bien se siente. También descubrirás que ir la segunda vez no te resultará tan difícil. Y ya no querrás quedarte sólo 20 minutos. Ya entraste en movimiento, y como dijimos, "todo objeto en movimiento, tiende a permancer en movimiento." La clave está en tomar esa primera decisión, y en ejecutarla inmediatamente. No mañana, hoy mismo. No puedes caer en el síndrome de "mañana". El camino de "mañana" sin falta te llevará a la conocida ciudad de "ninguna parte". Quiero animarte a que este año 2019 tomes decisiones. Haz una lista de cosas que deben cambiar en tu vida; escríbelas. Bajar de peso y verte bien en el espejo puede ser una de ellas. Pero el desafío es mucho más abarcante. Este principio de tomar una primera decisión y actuar inmediatamente sobre ella, puede cambiar tu vida emocional, tu estudio del inglés, tus finanzas, tu éxito en los negocios, tu relación con esa persona especial, o tu relación con Dios, tu conocimiento, tus estudios y tantas otras cosas. Mejor dicho, tu destino completo puede tomar un rumbo totalmente distinto este 2019. ¡Qué extraordinario sería llegar al 2020 y poder mirar para atrás y descubrir que ya no eres la misma persona que eres hoy, sino que eres esa persona exitosa con la que nunca has hecho más que soñar. Pues ya deja de soñar, y decide dar vuelta tu vida. Comenzando desde hoy. Comienza hoy con una pequeña decisión, o una grande, y comienza a actuar sobre ella. Quedarás maravillado con lo bien que vas a sentirte. Te desafío a que lo hagas.

I buried my son just six months ago. His work is done, mine is not. I have a powerful testimony to share. My son’s death was not in vain. God works all things together to good to those who love him. Our Heavenly Father loves his children, he’s placed his grace upon them and brought them home to eternity in paradise. I feel a profound pulling on my soul to share what I feel the Lord has revealed to me. I will not shrink back from sharing my faith and testimony. Just like my son would not stand down from evil. I pray you will listen. We need to go back to what this Nation was founded on. We need to invite the Lord into our hearts, our children, our homes, our communities and be One Nation under GOD. He needs to be invited back into our schools. I pray for those that don’t know Jesus to feel the tugging of the Holy Spirit and I pray they invite Him in. When He knocks I pray we open the door. He changes hearts and changes lives. He is the only source of true life. However, he gives us free will, if we ask him to leave he will leave us to our own destruction. My son stood for something: He stood for God, he stood for Country, he stood for what is right, he stood up for others. He did his part, and his heroic deeds will follow him. He had the biggest heart, he was a helper, friendly, polite, and very respectful. He never met a stranger and befriended almost everyone. I was blown away in the last two months by how many children and parents reached out to share with me about how kind he was to them or their children, even when others were not. Many told me he was their best friend, some I had never even heard him speak of. Which given that my son and I had daily conversations about what was going in his life, left me astonished at my con-

clusion. That Riley was their friend even though he didn’t consider them best friends. But he was so good to those children, in their eyes he was their best friend, he was always there for them, stood up for them, made time for them and was kind to them. He was also a Patriot through and through. He was very vocal that his calling was to join the Army with the goal to be an Army Ranger. He was certain this was more than a dream, but a calling and his God given purpose. He would go further and tell you he was meant to be on the “front lines.” When confronted with the question what is your back up plan, he would tell you there isn’t one, that’s it. He was more confident in his purpose than I ever have been up to this moment. He just recently used his gift cards to buy himself flag patches for his hat. You can look back on pictures and see a common theme of camo, him playing “Army” as a child, and multiple birthday parties with tiny army men and tanks. In his pictures we scanned for his viewing we even found a little man he had cut out and colored green with US ARMY wrote across the chest that was probably from around Kindergarten. He would wear his Halloween costume to play repeatedly pretending he was in the Army. As he grew older his shirts were engulfed with flags, eagles, the Army logo, and he even had one that said “America”. He also stood up for our constitution. When the FBI returned his backpack to me after the shooting I found an outline he had started for a paper he was writing in English about the topic he chose: The 2nd Amendment. This was written on May 1st, 2018. He believed in protecting our Countries core values and defending yourself.

About 2 weeks before this shooting occurred I had been fighting off a bad feeling that I was losing him. I prayed repeatedly for the Lord to let my children outlive me but surrendered and prayed “let my children live to the full potential and purpose you have for them, they are yours.” As broken as I am without my son, I know the Lord answered my prayers and used Riley for His purpose. To glorify our Heavenly Father. I also know he gets to hear “Well done good and faithful servant” in Heaven. On May 8th, 10 days before his death, he wrote from Scriptures Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”on the stud of what would be his bedroom in the house we are building. I believe the Lord is sending a powerful message. As I ponder this I know my world as well as others stood still. Also, it stands out to me that most of these children and 1 of the teachers were not from here. One was from another nation, many from other states and my son from another town. I also reflect on the outpouring of recognition my son has received from around the Earth, they have honored him in Africa, and are holding a vigil for him in Okinawa, Japan. Riley had struggled briefly before his death with his faith, but when he finally told me why it was connected to him doing what he knew he was meant to do. He knew he was going to serve but felt like God may not love him if he had to kill someone, he had a great fear if that was his future, do people end up liking it? I told him to remember all the great warriors in the Bible, the Lord was with them and loved them. At this he seemed to have found peace. The night before his death he laid across the foot of our bed and read Scriptures Matthew 5:17-20 to us. I then read the next paragraph which was about murder. We then said prayers together as a family and went to bed. After we finally received confirmation that my son was indeed deceased, my sister came to comfort me and had shared that she had ordered a book for me that week it just hadn’t come in yet. It was Jesus Calling Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young. In which the devotional for the date May 18th read: Come to Me with your plans held in abeyance. Worship Me in spirit and truth, allowing My Glory to permeate your entire being. Trust Me enough to let Me guide you through this day, accomplishing My purposes in My timing. Subordinate your myriad plans to My Master Plan. I am sovereign over every aspect of your life! The challenge continually before you is to trust Me and search for My way through each day. Do not blindly follow your habitual route, or you will miss what I have prepared for you. He was obedient even to the point of death, what a great lesson for all of us. He was barely 15 years old, most of us hope we have the courage to do what he did but only God knows if we would. There’s no question in his case, he died a Hero! We all need to take some time to self-reflect as a Nation and as individual people. We need to ask the Lord into our lives, have him make his home in us. Also, as I reflect on the events that have unfolded, I remember when I first saw the close-up image of my son in his casket. I was infuriated, I thought it was so disrespectful as all other images were from a distance or showed people paying their respects in front of him. But the anger quickly fled as I was embraced by a sense of peace because I feel the Lord is continuing to work. I feel we all need a reminder that this one life is it, there is no reset button. There is only eternity that follows, no do overs. We live in a society that so quickly forgets and moves onto something else. Often putting off what is really important to tomorrow, well tomorrow is not guaranteed no matter your age. I’m proud to be saved by the Atoning blood of Jesus and I believe Our Heavenly Father is using my son for his purpose. I am proud to call Christian Riley Garcia my son. As I drove the other day I realized that I don’t believe that his first name is a coincidence. I find comfort that the Lord used him for His glory and extended His hand of mercy and grace through him, as he sacrificed himself to save others. I’ve always loved him more than I know how to express, and I now admire him as well. He left the world a better place. I thank the Lord for him, he was a blessing to all he touched. I’m grateful God let me be his mother and a steward over him. I know he is with the Lord and I will treasure my memories until I meet my brave man again. Praise God, God is good! I can attest that the Holy Spirit has carried me in this difficult time. I know where my son is and that gives me immense comfort. I guess what I leave you with is we need to do more to influence the world that God and Jesus are the only way. We must teach our children, because if we don’t, the world will teach them the opposite. Bring God back into our schools, the Ten Commandments should be seen as they walk the halls. Maybe God would deal with their heart and these tragedies would stop. When it’s all said and done faith is all that matters. His word is true, and truth endures forever. on la sorpresiva elección de Donald Trump, todos anticipamos que el refuerzo de las leyes de inmigración aumentaría, causando temor en nuestra gran población indocumentada, la gran mayoría de los cuales ha vivido y trabajado pacíficamente en los Estados Unidos durante décadas. Después de todo, el presidente Trump comenzó su campaña abogando a la construcción de un gran muro a lo largo de la frontera con México y afirmando que México estaba enviando a nuestro país a sus violadores y asesinos. Pero lo que no se esperaba era el asalto total de Trump a la inmigración legal, y que el presidente designara a los más acervos antiinmigrantes para puestos clave en su gobierno en el manejo de sus políticas. Y aunque es poco probable que se aprueben leyes restrictivas de inmigración, Trumps no ha dudado en utilizar su autoridad ejecutiva y regulatoria para restringir la inmigración legal. Los políticos conservadores y los creadores de opinión condenan la inmigración ilegal diciendo que deben "ponerse en línea" y llegar por los canales legales adecuados, pero desafortunadamente las pocas opciones legales ahora disponibles están siendo atacadas por muchas de las mismas personas que dicen favorecer la inmigración legal. QUÉ ES RELEVANTE

os notables acontecimientos ocurrieron en un mismo día. Uno de ellos, el terremoto de 7.0 en Alaska, recibió gran atención, ya que nunca en nuestra historia reciente se había experiementado un sismo de tal magnitud y que durara tanto tiempo (90 segundos aproximadamente) en dicho estado. Los residentes de Anchorage y casi todo el territorio de Alaska están acostumbrados a movimientos telúricos, pero este los dejó más que alarmados, sin mencionar los millonarios daños de infraestructura y a la propiedad. Sin embargo, más significativo todavía, es el terremoto de baja intensidad (3.8) que el mismo día, a escasas horas de diferencia, impactó a Buenos Aires, Argentina, y que se sintió hasta Uruguay y Brazil. Es de notar que el terremoto ocurrió el viernes 30 de noviembre, mientras que en la misma ciudad se llevaba a cabo la cumbre de dignatarios del G20. La razón de lo significativo de este terremoto en particular es que Buenos Aires es considerada una ciudad antisísmica, y no había sido impactada de manera significativa anteriormente, al menos no desde 1888 (5.5) y 1977. Considerando los extraños acontecimientos que nos rodean en todos los ámbitos, creo que no es difícil entender que toda la humanidad se encuentra en un estado de inusual aprehensión. Incendios, terremotos, huracanes con sus consecuentes inundaciones, tsunamis, son sólo algunos de los muchos desastres naturales que están azotando a nuestro planeta cada año con mayor frecuencia e intensidad. Ejemplo de esto son los incendios que acaban de devastar California. Apenas el año pasado los incendios producidos en este estado habían roto todos los récords de su historia. En 2016 se había dicho lo mismo, y este año, nuevamente los récords anteriores fueron ampliamente superados.

por Martín Gondra A esto podemos sumar la terrible inmoralidad en nuestra sociedad, la desintegración de las familias, el crímen, la corrupción comenzando desde los mismos gobernantes, los ataques contra los inmigrantes, las caravanas de miles de familias escapando de la violencia, la pobreza y el hambre en países alrededor del mundo, incluyendo Latinoamérica, los accidentes automovilísticos, ferroviarios, de embarcaciones y aviones, la proliferación de enfermedades cada vez más perjudiciales y desde edades más tempranas, y muchas otras cosas sobre las que podría elaborar por páginas y páginas. Todo muestra a las claras que la humanidad entera y este mundo se están auto-destruyendo rápidamente y que algo de proporciones catastróficas está a punto de suceder. Como cristiano y firme creyente en las enseñanzas de la Biblia y las claras predicciones hechas por los profetas y el mismo Jesucristo, no puedo evitar mirar con la mayor sobriedad y preocupación que todas estas cosas fueron predichas como la antesala de su regreso a la Tierra y del fin del mundo como lo conocemos. El apóstol San Pablo nos advirtió "que cuando digan: Paz y seguridad, entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, como los dolores a la mujer encinta, y no escaparán." (1º Tesalonicenses 5:3). Es extraordinario notar dos cosas muy significativas en relación a estas pa-labras. El 28 de septiembre se llevó a cabo, también en Buenos Aires, un foro de líderes religiosos de los mismos países del G20 (las 20 mayores potencias del mundo), con invitados extraordinarios como el Secretario de las Naciones Unidas, el portugües António Guterres. El Foro Inter-religioso G20 fue inaugurado con la presencia de la vicepresidente de Argentina, Ga-

briela Michetti, y con un mensaje del papa Francisco. Por espacio de tres días, unos 150 líderes y referentes de distintas tradiciones religiosas y de asociaciones basadas en la fe debatieron un amplio temario orientado a definir el aporte que la religión está llamada a hacer en materia de "desarrollo justo y sostenible" y de un "futuro digno" para la humanidad: el porvenir del mundo laboral, la seguridad alimentaria, el medio ambiente, la trata de personas, la necesidad de una nueva arquitectura financiera internacional, la defensa de la libertad religiosa y la relación entre ética y economía. La presencia de un abanico muy plural de líderes de todos el mundo (con representación de cristianos católicos y protestantes, musulmanes, indúes, budistas, entre otros) convirtió a Buenos Aires en "la capital del ecumenismo", en palabras de uno de los organizadores del Foro. El Secretario de la ONU destacó que "Enfrentamos una situación difícil y extrema. Es claro que la realidad es más dramática que nuestros pronósticos iniciales. Las cosas están peor de lo que esperábamos. Esto debe ser tomado en serio por la comunidad internacional." Los líderes del mundo, que posiblemente poco o nada conocen de las claras profecías de la Biblia, están entendiendo que vivimos un momento "difícil y extremo". Sin embargo, tal vez lo más significativo que quiero resaltar es que durante sus declaraciones, en una media docena de ocasiones, el Secretario Guterres citó la necesidad imperativa de cambiar el rumbo actual del mundo, con el fin de lograr la "paz y seguridad" que nos permitiría sobrevivir más allá de los próximos dos o tres años. ¡Las mismísimas palabras citadas por Pablo hace casi dos mil años atrás que serían dichas antes de la destrucción repentina!: "Paz y seguridad".

Quiero también resaltar la segunda parte de lo dicho por el apóstol Pablo: "...vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, como los dolores a la mujer encinta, y no escaparán." La analogía entre los acontecimientos finales y los dolores de la mujer antes de dar a luz es significativa. Los dolores antes del alumbramiento son cada vez más frecuentes y más intensos. Exactamente lo que estamos viendo con los desastres naturales, cada vez más frecuentes, cada vez más intensos, rompiendo récord tras récord, como mencioné acerca de los incendios en California, a forma de modesto ejemplo.

por los grandes profetas, los apóstoles y por Jesús mismo, el Hijo de Dios, son ciertas y verdaderas, o no? Estas son preguntas fundamentales que debes hacerte, que todos debemos hacernos.

tus hermanos, de tus padres, de todos aquellos a quienes amas y a quienes debieras de estar amonestando para que se preparen contigo para el regreso de Jesús.

YO sí lo creo. Y si efectivamente creo que la Biblia es la Palabra y la revelación de Dios, y que éste, como Creador del universo y de este mundo, tiene un conocimiento claro y preciso de las cosas que él mismo ha determinado que ocurran, y cuándo éstas deban ocurrir, sería entonces irresponsable de mi parte ignorar y no poner atención a sus claras advertencias.

Notemos las palabras de Jesús: "Porque se levantará nación contra nación, y reino contra reino; y habrá pestes, y hambres, y terremotos en diferentes lugares." (Mateo 24:6, 7). El levantamiento armado de nación contra nación y reino contra reino, ya ha ocurrido en la primera y segunda guerras mundiales, ¡dos veces! a manera de confirmación de esta profecía. Y luego serían seguidos de "pestes, hambres y terremotos", como ejemplos de los muchos tipos de desastres que continuarían azotando al mundo.

Me sorprende y deja consternado ver la falta de interés en la gente por la Biblia, y por lo que en ella Dios quiere comunicarnos, para evitar caer en la desgracia en que ha de ser sumida prácticamente toda la humanidad.

La segunda venida de Cristo se encuentra en el corazón mismo de la Biblia como el evento más anticipado y maravilloso de la historia de este mundo. La primera venida de Cristo y su muerte en la cruz es nuestra oportunidad de obtener el perdón y la vida eterna; su segunda venida es la entrega de la recompensa. Es la gloriosa esperanza en la que murieron todos los grandes patriarcas, profetas, apóstoles y creyentes de todas las edades. Es el Gran Día cuando los muertos serán resucitados para una vida gloriosa y eterna. Es donde se suman todas las esperanzas de vivir para siempre en la promesa que Jesús nos dejó cuando dijo: "No se turbe vuestro corazón; creéis en Dios, creed también en mí. En la casa de mi Padre muchas moradas hay; si así no fuera, yo os lo hubiera dicho; voy, pues, a preparar lugar para vosotros. Y si me fuere y os preparare lugar, vendré otra vez, y os tomaré a mí mismo, para que donde yo estoy, vosotros también estéis." (S. Juan 14:1-3). Cristo prometió regresar, y lo hará.

Si leemos las profecías de Jesús en Mateo 24, Marcos 13 y Lucas 21 acerca de su regreso, no podemos menos que quedar asombrados al notar su extraordinario cumplimiento, que estamos viviendo precisamente en nuestros días. Tras dar una larga serie de señales de su segunda venida, el Señor Jesús dijo: "Así también vosotros, cuando veáis que suceden estas cosas, sabed que está cerca el reino de Dios. De cierto os digo, que no pasará esta generación hasta que todo esto acontezca. El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras no pasarán.' (Lucas21:31-33). Todo ocurrirá durante la vida de una msima generación, la última generación de seres humanos en este mundo, indudablemente, nosotros. Entiendo que mis palabras puedan parecer un tanto alarmistas, y debo reconocer que lo son, porque el estado de cosas que estamos viendo lo ameritan ampliamente. Pero hago esta sencilla pregunta: ¿Creemos que la Biblia es la palabra de Dios, fiel y verdadera, o no? ¿Creemos que las profecías de la Biblia, dadas con la mayor claridad y precisión

Extraordinariamente, aún en esto se cumple lo predicho por Jesús: "Porque como en los días antes del diluvio estaban comiendo y bebiendo, casándose y dando en casamiento, hasta el día en que Noé entró en el arca, y no entendieron hasta que vino el diluvio y se los llevó a todos, así será también la venida del Hijo del Hombre." (S. Mateo 24:38, 39). El Hijo de Dios sabía que en estos días la mayoría estaría muy ocupada con la moda, el romance, los negocios, las comidas, los entretenimientos, el internet, y hasta la misma familia, que no dejaríamos ni un rato al día, o siquiera a la semana, para ocuparnos en conocer a Dios a través de un estudio serio de la Biblia, y saber cuál es su plan para este mundo, para tí, y para tu familia. ¿No te parece esto increíble? ¿Saber que en la Biblia encuentro la respuesta a estos y muchos otros interrogantes, y no decidir dedicarle siquiera una o dos horas al día, o por lo menos a la semana, a aprender de ella y aprender cómo Dios desea advertirnos de los peligros y la destrucción que se avecinan, y cómo evitarlos? Lo peor de todo, ¡no se trata sólo de nuestra vida aquí y ahora, sino que se trata de nuestro destino eterno! Y si esto no te estremece, considera ahora que de tu decisión puede también depender el destino eterno de tus hijos, de tu cónyuge, de

Pero no regresará por todos, ni el día de su regreso será un día de gozo para todos; sino sólo para aquellos que lo aman y que esperan y aman su venida. Quiero terminar con la lectura completa del apóstol Pablo que cité inicialmente: "Porque vosotros sabéis perfectamente que el día del Señor vendrá así como ladrón en la noche; que cuando digan: Paz y seguridad, entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, como los dolores a la mujer encinta, y no escaparán. Mas vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas, para que aquel día os sorprenda como ladrón. Porque todos vosotros sois hijos de luz e hijos del día; no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas. Por tanto, no durmamos como los demás, sino velemos y seamos sobrios." (1º Tesalonicenses 5:1-6). McLaren ha logrado llegar al punto de volar nuestras mentes colectivas con modelos como el 570S, 675LT y P1. El 720S marca otro hito importante: esta es la primera vez que McLaren reemplaza completamente uno de sus autos centrales. El trabajo de desarrollo comenzó en 2013, antes de que incluso se anunciara el 650S, y una gran parte de él se hizo virtualmente. El primer auto de validación completa fue construido muy recientemente, pero su camino hacia el mercado ha sido extremadamente rápido. El 91 por ciento del 720S es nuevo, y el motor ampliado de 4.0 litros presenta un 41 por ciento de contenido nuevo: turbos, interenfriadores, cámara de aluminio fundido, culatas, cigüeñal, pistones y escape. Los números de la línea superior incluyen 710 bhp, 568 pares de torsión, 249 CO2, 0-62 mph en 2.9 segundos, 0-124 mph en 7.8 y 0-186 mph (300 km/h, si lo prefieres) en 21.8. Después de casi 30 largos años desde sus inicios, la Serie 8 está de regreso al futuro y disponible al público en marzo o abril 2019, y de vuelta al presente ahora con un aún mayor esplendor y la potencia que sólo BMW puede ofrecer de su salto de los 90's al siglo XXI.

Esta máquina está saturada de la más extraordinaria tecnología alemana, y todos los juguetes imaginables para que cada salida sea una experiencia única y extraordinaria.

A diferencia de su predecesor 850i V12, la nueva versión viene con todo, comenzando con un totalmente renovado motor V8 doble-turbo de 4.4 litros, completo con nuevos puertos de admisión, turbocompresores más grandes y una entrada de aire rediseñada.

INTERIOR

Aunque tiene menos cilindros, tiene mucha más potencia: 523 caballos de fuerza y 553 lb.-ft. de impulso, para ser exactos, lo cual lo coloca como el BMW más poderoso después del M5 (600 caballos de fuerza). Este animal de las autopistas es capaz de lanzarte de 0 a 60 mph en 3.6 segundos, y alcanzar una velocidad (limitada electrónicamente) de 155 mph. No te preocupes, no imagino una autopista donde puedas alcanzar esa velocidad sin elevar tus niveles de adrenalina más allá de donde lo puedas soportar.

El interior tiene asientos delanteros deportivos estándar, asientos traseros cómodos, aunque como todo dos-puertas, ajustados, con superficies cubiertas con cuero Merino Individual premium con costuras en contraste. La parte trasera incluye un respaldo que separa de la cajuela. Estos asientos pueden abrirse individualmente hacia adelante, incrementando notablemente la capacidad de almacenaje en el ya amplio baúl. La ancha consola central fluye hacia el asiento trasero desde la pantalla táctil de 10.25 pulgadas y los controles centrales del tablero. El auto está rodeado por cámaras de excelente definición que te permiten un control total de 360º en vista panorámica y en 3D.

Todo esto no significa que todavía no puedas agregar más opciones. Por ejemplo, los asientos con calefacción estándar pueden actualizarse para incluir ventilación que atrae el aire hacia adentro, en lugar de soplarlo. También puedes actualizar el sonido de sonido envolvente Harman Kardon Surround de 16 parlantes a un sistema de sonido envolvente Diamond de Bowers & Wilkins con un amplificador de 16 canales que pone 1.375 vatios en 16 parlantes iluminados. ¡Impresionante! Esta joya de la tecnología viene con dos llaves. Una standard y una segunda llave digital que es toda en sí misma una maravilla. Entre otras aplicaciones geniales, como por ejemplo un timer para encender el aire acondicionado, puedes también conectarla con tu celular mediante una aplicación, la que te permite a tí y hasta otras cinco personas que tú designes, bloquear y desbloquear el auto desde un teléfono habilitado para NFC y arrancar el motor después de poner el teléfono en la bandeja de carga inalámbrica incorporada debajo de la consola, o desde tu teléfono. Los controles en la consola completamente digital son muy intuitivos, coloridos y ultra modernos. Si buscas más tecnología, bueno, estás de suerte, porque el BMW 2019 8-Series la trae en abundancia en forma standard y como opcinales.

MANEJO

Detrás de las llantas de aleación de 20 pulgadas, encontrarás una configuración de suspensión de doble horquilla en la parte delantera y una configuración de cinco enlaces en la parte posterior. También cuenta con dirección en las ruedas traseras para ayudar a pilotar el automóvil en giros cerrados y mantener la estabilidad a altas velocidades, así como la suspensión activa. El manejo es extremadamente suave a cualquier velocidad, muy característico de la marca, y como todo BMW, su manejo se experimenta balanceado y firme. Su maniobrabilidad es sensacional y su reacción tan rápida como tus reflejos. Esto es para mí muy importante. El techo, las puertas, el cofre y el ensamblaje del subchasis frontal de la serie 8 de 2019 están hechos de aluminio. El refuerzo para la cabina está hecho de magnesio, y el túnel del eje de transmisión es de plástico reforzado con fibra de carbono. El techo también se puede optar en carbono, todo lo cual reduce su peso a poco más de 4000 libras.

BAJO EL CAPO El M850i xDrive coupe es impulsado por un V-8 de 4.4 litros doble turbo que ofrece 523 caballos de fuerza y 553 libras-pie de torsión (desde un nivel bajo de 1.800 rpm). Los sistemas de rendimiento estándar en el M850i xDrive incluyen un diferencial trasero con bloqueo electrónico, una suspensión deportiva M adaptativa, dirección activa en la rueda trasera y estabilización activa del rodillo M.

La potencia se envía a la unidad de tracción total xDrive de BMW a través de una transmisión mejorada de ocho velocidades, aunque el sistema envía la potencia sólo a las ruedas traseras a menos que la computadora detecte un deslizamiento. BMW dice que esto es "especialmente notable" en los modos Sport y Sport +. Se controla con manillas montadas en el volante y un muy elegante selector de velocidades transparente. La transmisión está asistida por GPS para predecir los cambios de marcha, similar a la unidad en su hermano de lujo, el Rolls-Royce Wraith.

Un detalle que durante mi manejo de prueba me sorprendió fué el sistema de retorno al carril si te distraes y te acercas a las líneas demarcatorias en la autopista. Experimenté bastante con esta aplicación que no la trae mi 750 Li de unos años atrás, y fué totalmente novedoso de experimentar. A propósito dejé que el auto se desplazara hacia uno u otro lado, y al momento de casi tocar las líneas pintadas en la autopista, el carro automáticamente regresa al centro del carril. Pareciera que al realinearse con la carretera podría irse hacia el lado puesto, pero definitivamente no lo hace, sino que se mantiene bien alinado entre ambas líneas demarcatorias. Un "radar" en el centro del parachoques delantero maneja toda

En la opción Sport o Sport + el empuje del auto es altamente potente. Definitivamente supera al Panamera. Un interesante sistema de control de transmisión electrónica utiliza los datos del sistema de navegación para alterar los cambios de la transmisión y adaptarse a las condiciones de conducción actuales, incluido el cambio descendente temprano al acercarse a las intersecciones y minimizar los cambios innecesarios entre esquinas estrechamente agrupadas. BMW también utiliza datos de navegación y sensores que leen el movimiento de otros vehículos para evitar la activación innecesaria del sistema de parada y arranque en diversas situaciones, por ejemplo, deteniéndose en un semáforo.

También es opcional un sistema de visión nocturna que puede mostrar personas y animales grandes en una imagen en el panel de instrumentos. Los sensores estándar son los sensores de estacionamiento delanteros y traseros, y un sistema de ayuda de estacionamiento que puede detectar los espacios paralelos apropiados, maniobrar en ellos y luego ayudar a salir de ellos; acciona el acelerador, frenos, dirección y cambios de marcha. El sistema también ayuda a maniobrar fuera de otros espacios reducidos recordando e invirtiendo la ruta utilizada para acceder a ellos.

MI APRECIACION Manejo la serie 7 desde el 733 (1984), de modo que tengo un ojo crítico y una afinidad especial por la marca. He manejado prácticamente todas las demás marcas y modelos de lujo y exóticos, y con-

tinúo comprando BMW (aunque para nada descarto las muchas virtudes de otras marcas). El 750Li es mi favorito por la amplitud y comodidad para mi familia. Sin embargo, de no ser por ello, el M8 sería mi siguiente opción. Advantage BMW Midtown tuvo la cortesía de prestarme por 24 horas el único ejemplar en existencia en Houston hasta que salga al mercado en marzo-abril 2019. The importance of understanding the various qualities of meats we are consuming, and getting to know the restaurants -and grocery stores- that offer the best options for your health and enjoyment.

ith all the health issues associated with the consumption of meat, "organic" has become one of the most valuable words of the 21st century. A single dinner at Sal y Pimienta, a fabulous South American Steak House in City Centre was all it took for me to learn and understand the extraordinary concept and benefits of what is known as "organic grass-feed beef", something I had never even heard of before. It so happens that the cow meats we eat, are of course the result of what they eat. Following that chain, unless we are vegan or vegetarian, we are also the result of the quality of the meats we eat. Case in point, what a cow eats will finally end up in your body. What I didn't know though, is that cows can be fed in a variety of different ways, resulting in the quality of the beef we end up consuming.

We are all quite familiar with the word "organic", but what we may not know is that "organic" has a wide range of different meanings. This is also true in the world of cattle raising. I won't ellaborate on all the different ways to receive the title of "organic", but I'd rather focus on the excellence of organic beef. It all starts in Uruguay, a small country in South America, right between Brazil and Argentina, the two largest producers of cattle in Central and South America. Yet, it so happens that Uruguay is the only country in the southern hemisphere allowed to export meats to the US. Modeling New Zeland's standards, Uruguay uses a unique double system to track every single one of the 12.5 million cows born in the country every year. Every one of them has an identifier, a unique number known as "caravana", which allows the government to know when, were and how the animal was born. Additionally, each new calf is inserted a chip through the skin and into

the body the moment it's born, which allows to digitally read and track its place of birth, growth, transfers from one facility to another, and a wide range of valuable additional information to guarantee its development, quality and even time and cause of death. The information provided by this chip is updated electronically into a database through the life of the animal. This advanced quality control is not new to Uruguay, which for 300 years has had the reputation as having one of the finest livestock in the world. This ultra-high standard and quality control process granted Uruguay the status that today holds as one of the preferred countries in the world for meat exportation, including by the high standards of the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). INAC (National Meat Institute) is Uruguay's authority in control of production and export of livestock. Additionally, ICAN promotes their meats throughout the world. This effort is placing Uruguay at the level of the best organic

meat producers in the world, such as New Zeland and Australia. However, Uruguayan model is New Zeland, as the country producing the best milk, the best butter, the best lamb and the best cows. Both Uruguay and New Zeland are very similar in size, population, landscape and exports base. But the most important similariry is their focus into "natural" products. Let's clarify the use of the term "natural", since this is a word that has been abused and misused throughout the world. In our case, by "natural", we mean that 90% of Uruguayan cows are grass-fed. Furthermore, they feed their cattle in what is known as "open range". This means their livestock is not fed with grass in dry bundles in stables or enclosures, but rather in an open field, where each cow has over one 'hectarea' (2 1/2 acres) of space under open skies, 365 days a year. This can only happen under certain climate conditions, not found but in a few countries. Uruguay offers those conditions; even in winter you don't need to cover the cattle. The apparent disadvantage for

ranchers feeding cattle under these natural conditions is that during the three months of winter, given the fact that pasture growth slows down, cows gain less weight, and sometimews even lose a little. This is part of a natural cycle. During times with less rain and pasture growth, the animal eats less, slowing down the growth process. As spring comes along, with the Southern hemisphere's heavier rains and grass growth, cattles eat more, with the resulting fast growth. In other words, ranchers completely depend on the natural conditions of the weather. Business wise, this could be a challenge under bad climate conditions, but the consumers gain by receiving some of the best beef on earth. Another great advantage of growing livestock in open ranges, is its humanitarian aspect. Animals are treated in a very humane manner, exposing them to a natural, stress-free environment, having a direct impact in the health of the animal and the quality of the meat. Another great component of Uruguayan beef is that since 1968 it is prohibited by law the use of growth promoters (hormones and other nutritional supplements, used to force the growth) in cattle. It is interesting to note that in the United States the use of those growth promoters is allowed by the USDA. In addition to this, in ranches subject to the "organic" classification, it is also prohibited to use antibiotics in animals, and pesticides and fertilizers on the pastures. These two elements guarantee that cows are not only fed with fresh, green natural grass, but also free of chemicals of any kind. Again, the impact on the quality of their meat is direct and meaningful. This is what you would call true Kosher. Another interesting component to highlight is the fact that most meats you buy at the store in our country, come from grain-fed cows. This doesn't necessarily mean that at some point in their lives, those animals were fed with grass, but for the most part, they have been raised eating grain, which in turn has been grown with fertilizers and pesticides. The problem with this type of commercial beef is that traces of hormones, nutritional supplements, antibiotics, pesticides and fertilizers are being absored by consumers. Antibiotics thus transmitted into humans, make them more resistent to the efects of those types of antibi-

We all know every city has remarkable culinary secrets, only reserved for "the few and the chosen". We have just found one of them: "Ambriza". This somewhat unassuming restaurant tops all previous discoveries of the past years. Being under such strong influence from the Southern border, you can anticipate finding in Houston some extraordinary Mexican cuisine. And of course, there are some great places to admire. For the most part, you would expect them to be in places like River Oaks or The Woodlands. However, Houston's unquestionable best Mexican flavors are to be found in Spring Cypress, by The Vintage Park, right off highway 249 at Louetta. No one that appreciates amazing Mexican food, and is willing to take the risk of getting addicted, can afford not to visit Ambriza. This is what I would call a refined, truly authentic Mexican cuisine at the best style of Mexico City. However, the

chef is from Veracruz, so a fabulous seafood influence is to be expected. But the kitchen of Ambriza goes beyond D.F. and coastal styles. As an example, Composed of 87 ingredients, and totally handmade, here you will find the most delicious Oaxacan "mole", a dish to die for. People who previously did not like mole, are now converted. Here is one of many incredible highlights: Ambriza does not have a freezer. The only thing they have is a small one they use for ice cream. All the components used in their dishes are legitimately fresh, brought in most cases the morning of the day you will eat them. All recipes are original creations of the House. Now, do you want to know "insane"?: Tortillas are made on the spot, as you order them! For starters, the Tostones -prepared as you order themare made of "macho bananas" (not to be confused with regular sweet bananas) combined with Beef Picadillo -quite authentic of Mexico City-, onions, cilantro, fresh

A definite winner is the Brussel Sprouts Honey PiquĂn, made of crispy brussel sprouts, tossed with honey piquin sauce and sesame seeds. Now imagine three options of Ceviche: CosteĂąo, Campechana or Tropical. Ceviche Tropical is made of white fish marinated in coconut serrano lime, mixed with shaved red onions, cilantro and served with a side of plantain chips. Spectacular! Los Maduros Envueltos are delicious golden ripe plantain bites wraped in bacon topped with queso fresco crumbles and crema.

Another classic is the Street Corn, 3 mini corn cobs topped with garlic aioli, crumbled queso fresco and chile lime salt. The variety of tacos, quesadillas, fajitas and enchiladas guarantee a memorable experience. Here are some of them: The Slow-braised beef barbacoa, served with diced onions, cilantro, avocado, drizzled with tomatillo salsa on flour tortilla. Carne Asada is a savory grilled sirloin, topped with ancho chile pesto, grilled onions and sliced avocado on flour tortilla. Vegetables Ambriza: Julienned peppers, roasted corn, mushrooms, huitlacoche, nopal and sliced avocado sauce on corn tortilla. The extensive menu include Pescado, a seared tilapia, topped with jicama, red cabbage and cilantro. Drizzled with a raspberry chiptole aioli on flour tortilla. Pollo en Salsa Verde: Braised shredded chicken in tomatillo sauce and cilantro on corn tortilla. Enchiladas Verdes: Seasoned shredded chicken, smothered in tomatillo sauce, topped with queso fresco, red onions and crema. I personally love the Swiss Enchiladas, seasoned shredded chicken, smothered in a cream cheese tomatillo sauce, melted Swiss cheese, topped with red onions and crema. Las Enchiladas Rojas are Carne asada smothered with tomato casabel chile sauce, topped with crema, queso fresco and crispy potatoes. If you ask me, I'd go to Ambriza just for the desserts. They are simply spectacular! The Cajeta Crepes, filled with zesty mascarpone and topped with cajeta caramel sauce, sprinkled with walnut crumbles. "Domingo" is a Mexican vanilla ice cream, La Abuelita chocolate sauce, churro streusel, whipped cream, shaved chocolate, cajeta sauce, fried ripe plantain. You can touch it up with carajillo sauce (Liquor 43 sauce w/espresso).

Cheese Flan is a "must-have": Mascarpone and vanilla custard, mixed with berry coulis and whipped cream. All by itself, this dessert makes it well worth your visit. By Kerry A. Dolan and Luisa Kroll Capitalism’s global conquest continues as entrepreneurs around the globe mint fortunes in everything from cryptocurrencies to telecom to bridal dresses. Forbes has pinned down a record 2,208 billionaires from 72 countries and territories including the first ever from Hungary and Zimbabwe. This elite group is worth $9.1 trillion, up 18% since last year. Their average net worth is a record $4.1 billion. Americans lead the way with a record 585 billionaires, followed by mainland China with 373. Centi-billionaire Jeff Bezos secures the list’s top spot for the first time, becoming the only person to appear in the Forbes ranks with a 12-figure fortune. Bezos’s fortune leapt

more than $39 billion, the list’s biggest one-year gain ever. He moves ahead of Bill Gates, who is now number 2. It is the biggest gap between no. 1 and 2 since 2001. Bernard Arnault, with a fortune of $72 billion, reclaims the title of richest European for the first time since 2012. There are 259 newcomers including the first ever cryptocurrency billionaires; two Canadians whose toy company is behind Hatchimals and PAW Patrol; two Americans who founded online retailer Wayfair; and a 35-year-old heiress who runs In-N-Out Burger. Even in such a strong year, 121 dropped out due to falling fortunes or political headwinds, including all 10 Saudi Arabians.

3- Warren Buffet - $84 Billion Remains one of the worlds the most successful investors of all times. With Bill Gates, he launched The Giving Pledge, asking billionaires to donate half their wealth to cheritable causes.

4- Bernard Arnault & family - $72 Billion He owns an empire of 70 luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton and Sephora. With the purchase of Christian Dior he increased his fortune by $30+ Billion in one year.

5- Mark Zuckerberg - $71 Billion CEO of Facebook since he founded it in 2004 at age 19

6- Amancio Ortega - $70 Billion The Spanish billionaire is the wealthiest retailer in the world, owning 7,500 stores worldwide. He tipically earns over $400 million in dividends per year.

7- Carlos Slim Helu $67.1 Billion The Mexican mega-rich and his family control America Movil, Latin America's biggest mobile telecom firm. He also owns 17% of The New York Times and many other companies across many nations, including the US.

Two tech entrepreneurs from mainland China climbed into the top 20 for the first time. Ma Huateng (also known as Pony Ma) is Asiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s wealthiest person, ranked number 17 in the world, thanks in part to his firm Tencentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s WeChat, a ubiquitous social-messaging app with nearly 1 billion active users. Tencent also has stakes in Tesla, Snapchat parent Snap and music-streaming service Spotify. Jack Ma, the 20th richest person, is the chief of another e-commerce giant Alibaba, whose shares increased 76% in a year.

Forbes pinned down 259 newcomers who made their fortunes in everything from tech and aerospace to private aviation and wedding dresses. China has the most new faces with 89, while the U.S. is next with 18. That is helping close the gap between the two nations. Altogether the U.S. has more billionaires than any country in the world with 585, while greater China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) has 476.

On this year's list, the billionaires hail from 72 countries and territories, including the first ever from Hungary and Zimbabwe. One country not represented: Saudi Arabia. Forbes chose to leave off all 10 Saudis given reports of asset seizures after the Saudi Crown Prince detained some 200 people, including some billionaires, some for as long as three months.

While the vast majority of the world’s billionaires added to their fortunes in the past 12 months, 16% had fortunes that slipped. HOUSTON BILLIONAIRES By Christopher Helman Fun fact for your next cocktail party: the newest Texan to join the Forbes 400 ranks is Bert "Tito" Beveridge, founder of Tito's vodka. The 55-year-old entrepreneur will sell close to 60 million bottles this year, enough to earn him an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion. Overall, America's rich just keep getting richer -- thanks in large part to Internet Bubble 2.0. The Forbes 400 net worth cut off this year was a record-high $2 billion. In Texas, low oil prices have flatlined the growth in some fortunes, like that of San Antonio natural gas tycoon Rod Lewis and business legend Red McCombs. They may still be billionaires, but they're no longer rich enough to make the Forbes 400. Another conspicuous absence from this Texas rich list is Charles Butt, the scion of the family behind the beloved HEB supermarket chain. Because of company stakes held by other family members, we've reassigned the Butts as a family fortune, estimated at $10.7 billion. There's certainly plenty of Texans who have deep enough moneybags to be in the Forbes 400 but don't show up yet because our intrepid reporters (including Noah Kirsch, Michela Tindera, Max Jedeur-Palmgren, Igor Bosilkovski, Yinan Che, Deniz Cam and Andrea Murphy) haven't yet nailed down the numbers beyond a reasonable doubt. 1. Richard Kinder - $6.7 billion After stepping down as president of Enron, Kinder cofounded pipeline giant Kinder Morgan in 1997. In 2014 he ended his career with a $70 billion megadeal that consolidated four affiliated companies into one goliath that now owns or operates 84,000 miles of pipe. The oil downturn hit the company hard; in 2015 it slashed its dividend 75%. Now removed from the day-today action, Kinder is focused on giving it away. The Kinder Foundation has donated tens of millions of dollars to build parks along Houston’s network of bayous and new buildings for the Museum of Fine Art. An avid reader, Kinder is a big fan of Winston Churchill: “Probably the greatest person of the 20th century in terms of the direct contributions of one individual.”

Randa Williams is non-executive chairman of Enterprise Products, which owns 50,000 miles of pipeline, market cap $56 billion.

6. Robert McNair $3.8 billion Owner of the NFL’s Houston Texans stepped up in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and pledged $1 million for relief efforts. McNair secured the NFL franchise for Houston for $700 million in 1999 and created the league's youngest expansion team. He sold his power generator company Cogen Technologies to Enron for $1.5 billion in 1999, and now invests in public and private equity. He and his wife, Janice, donate more than $20 million each year to their foundation dedicated to education. Called President Trump’s comments on NFL players kneeling “divisive and counterproductive.”

7. Dan Friedkin - $3.7 billion Friedkin owns Gulf States Toyota, the $8 billion (est. sales) car distributor built by his father, Thomas (d. 2017) that enjoys exclusive rights to sell Toyotas in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma. Also has invested in a film production studio that’s set to release its first movie, a story based on the kidnapping of oil heir J. Paul Getty III, later this year. He owns one of the largest collections of vintage military war planes and is a wildlife conservationist working to preserve 6 million acres in Tanzania.

9 - Tilman Fertitta $3.5 billion Fertitta has turned “eatertainment” into an empire. His Landry’s restaurant brands include Bubba Gump Shrimp, Saltgrass Steak House, and every parent’s animatronic gorilla nightmare: Rainforest Cafe. Fertitta also owns the Golden Nugget Casinos, the Bentley and Rolls-Royce dealerships in Houston’s newest and most luxurious hotel, The Post Oak Hotel. Last year the NBA approved his $2.2 billion purchase of the Houston Rockets; let the cross-marketing bonanza begin!

10. John Arnold - $3.3 billion Arnold was a wunderkind natural gas trader who earned Enron $750 million the year before its collapse. From its ashes he launched his own fund Centaurus Advisors, where he churned out triple digit returns for several years. He shocked the hedge fund world upon announcing in 2012 at age 38 that he was retiring and cashing out. His net worth could be considerably higher than our conservative Forbes estimate. Arnold now focuses his brainpower on strategic philanthropy, pushing much-needed, large-scale policy reform in criminal justice, public pensions and junk science. He and wife Laura have given $500 million to the Arnold Foundation.

11. George Bishop - $2.5 billion - The Woodlands In one of the biggest scores of the oil boom, George Bishop's Geosouthern Energy sold its south Texas fields to Devon Energy for $6 billion in late 2013. He has since redeployed capital in the Haynesville shale natural gas play in Louisiana. Believed to own Chub Cay island in the Bahamas and a golf course near Houston. Very private.

8. Jeffery Hildebrand - $3.6 billion A former ExxonMobil geologist, Hildebrand co-founded Hilcorp in 1990, later bought out his partner for $500 million. By specializing in squeezing more oil and gas out of mature fields, he has built Hilcorp into the nation's biggest privately owned oil company with operations in Texas, Louisiana, Alaska and Ohio.
