Readers share little reminders of how much goodness there is in the world “IT FELT GOOD TO HELP!” I was in a rush to go to work, when I saw my colleague in the parking lot next to her SUV. It was a cold day, and she seemed to be struggling with the rear hatch of her vehicle, after having taken her wheelchair out of the back. I went over and she explained she couldn’t lower the hatch. I tried to force it but that didn’t work. We both needed to get to work, so I suggested that I call security for help, rather than leave her vehicle open. I stayed with her until security came. Security was able to lower the hatch so her vehicle was secure. She later emailed me thanking me for the help. It felt good to help someone in need! —Nancy B. Mike, Farmington, NM

“SMALL GESTURES CAN BRING BIG SMILES!” I was running errands and had a craving for an iced coffee. I stopped at my favorite drive-thru, and as I was paying, I dropped four one-dollar bills. But it’s impossible to open your car door when you’re so close to the building. As I was about to pull up to get out of my car to retrieve my cash, the woman from the car behind me noticed my predicament and came to my rescue. I was so thankful for her kind gesture. My day was brightened so much by her help! It’s not always the big gestures that make us smile, it’s the little things in life that add up. I know I will try to do my part to help others. —Cora Rowe, Wrightsville, PA “THERE WAS SO MUCH KINDNESS IN THAT ONE MOMENT!” I work as a cashier in a small department store, and most of our customers are senior citizens. Recently, I was serving an older lady, and unfortunately, her debit card wouldn’t work. She was quite upset and tried several times with no success. There was a gentleman in the next aisle who was watching what was happening. He came over and insisted on paying for her order and then walked away. The lady was overcome with gratitude. She got emotional, and tears started to roll down my own cheeks to see how grateful she was.
