Saint Benedict chapel was designed by Peter Zumthor in 1988. The previous chapel was destroyed in 1984. In plan the shape of the chapel ressembles a tear drop. Peter Zumthor created a simple design that resignates with the village architecture. The chapel uses materials common in the area such as wooden shingles, wood colums, wooden benches, and wood flooring. The glass windows at the very top of the wal assembly allow natural light to shine within the space.

PROJECT INFORMATION
SITE ANALYSIS
The chapel is located in the heart of the terrain. The exisiting chapel was destroyed due to an avalanche in the village. Saint Benedict Chapel now sits at the highest point to protect from further natural diasters and is surrounded by trees. The total floor area is 67.3 meters squared. The primary structure is heavy timber.
CLIMATE INFORMATION
The building form creates flowing circulation through the structure at the roof and wall systems. The chapel is rotated on the site to use passive ventilation and allows natural light to shine through the space.

WALL ASSEMBLY
The wall assemble consists of three main layers. The first interior layer is an array of wood columns. The second layer wall construction contains the window panels, insulation, olywood, and wood studs. The last outter layer wraps the entire facade with wood shingles that memic the houses of the area. The facade creates a ventilation gap between the wood columns and the second wall assembly for passive ventilation. A steel bolt is driven through the second wall assemby to the wood column array.
ROOF ASSEMBLY
The roof construction has a similar layered assembly. The outter layer contains metal claddding and plywood. Similar to the wall assembly the roof also has a ventilation gap between the outer layer and insulation. The inner layer of consists of a wood slab with wood rafters that create the same tear drop shape as the plan. The center spine wood spine connects the entire roof assembly.

CLIFFORD STILL MUSEUM // ALLIED WORKS ARCHITECTURE
DENVER, COLORADO
The Clifford Still Museum was completed in 2011. Clifford Still is one of the 20th century's most influential painters. The museum galleries are organized in chronological sequence to help protray the different phases of Still's career. The entrance to the site has a series of canopy trees and landscape. At first approach the facade is bold with thick concrete walls. The concrete walls reveal striations or vertical lines at random that continously wrap the facade. The roof perforations allow natural light to fill the second floor gallery spaces and entrance lobby.

WALL ASSEMBLY
INFORMATION
Majority of the museum wall assembly consists of precast concrete. There are subtle hints of wood paneling that act as shading screens. The wood paneling can be seen at the second floor galleries and the first floor reception area.
The layering of the monolithic wall system is show as follows:
A. B. C. D.
Precast Concrete Vapor Barrier/Insulation Ventilation Gap, Supply Air Precast Concrete Wall Panel
ROOF ASSEMBLY
The roof introduces natrual light to second floor gallery spaces, offices, and lobby stair. Each skylight contants a radiant heater, and roller shade system. The skylight domes were created out of concrete to create a seamless transition to the other materials throughout the space.
CEILING ASSEMBLY
The museum ceiling contains a perforated concrete ceiling. The galleries are illuminated with downlights that are suspended from the ceiling.

NOVARTIS CAMPUS // WEISS MANFREDI
HANOVER, NJ
The Novartis Campus design completed by Weiss Manfredit encompases a new 140,000 square foot office builidng and new reception builidng. The visitors center adds a new look to the campus with a scultural roof form and transparent glass facades. The center creates new gathering spaces for the campus. Building 335 consists of five floors of open office spaces that are connected by a staircase.
The facade materials are majority reflective curtain glass with hints of wood paneling, Various outdoor seating spaces can be seen as you walk arouond the builidng footprint. The facade reflects the landscape, while also leaving some spaces with full transparency from the outside.

OFFICE BUILDING PERSPECTIVE
The open office floorplan allows for gathering and seating spaces throughout each floor. The primary ciruclation space is at the center of the building. It holds a connecting spiral staircase, and two elevators. The architectural or monolithic stair can be see from the exterior of the facade starting at the entry lobby level. This stair continues to the second floor into conditioned space and connects to the third floor.
The exterior wood paneling shading facades create a break of relief from the curtain glass. The wood paneling is spaced evenly offering visibility to other campus buildings. Each floor outdoor gathering space has a wood panel ceiling which is also duplicated throughout most of the interior spaces.
