LOCATED NEAR LAKE LAUGARVATN IN ICELAND, THE VACATION COTTAGES PROVIDE PRIVACY AND AN INTIMATE EXPERIENCE WITH THE RURAL ENVIRONMENT. THE DISPLACED SOIL IS INTEGRATED WITH THE ROOFSCAPES AND WINDBARRIERS, ALLOWING FOR THE STRUCTURE TO NESTLE INTO THE LANDSCAPE (1.1).
THE LAYOUT OF THE COTTAGE IS LIMITED IN CIRCULATION AREA ALLOWING FOR LOWER COSTS IN CONSTRUCTION DETAILING, MATERIALS, AND MAINTENANCE WHILE CREATING AN INTERIOR SPACE THAT IS CONTECTED AND CLEAR (1.1). EXTERIOR MATERIALS MIMIC THE LOCAL VERNACULAR OF BURT WOOD CLADDING FOR PANELS AND CONCRETE FOR THE BASE. INTERIOR MATERIALS BRING THE OUTSIDE IN WITH THE SAME WOOD PANELING, HARDWOOD FLOORS AND SMOOTH CONCRETE. THE ROOF IS A PLANE OF VEGETATION THAT IS CONTINOUS WITH THE SITE. THE COMPACT SITE ALLOWED FOR A MINIMAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
THE DESIGN HAS ZERO CARBON FOOTPRINT AND IMPLEMENTS GEOTHERMAL HYDRO ENERGY WITH DRILLED SOURCES ON SITE (1.1).

ALLIED WORKS ARCHITECTURE DENVER, UNITED STATES 2011
THE CLYFFORD STILL MUSEUM IS LOCATED ON AN URBAN STREET INTERSECTION IN DENVER, COLORADO (2.1). LANDSCAPED AREAS PULL THE MASS OF THE CONCRETE STRUCTURE BACK FROM THE STREET TO CREATE PUBLIC GREEN SPACE ADJACENT TO OTHER CIVIC BUILDINGS. THE ENTRY IS FOUND BY FOLLOWING THE PATHS BELOW THE TREE CANOPY. NINE LIFETED GALLERIES ON THE INTERIOR VARY IN SIZE AS THEY SPACIALLY RESPOND TO THE EXHIBITS WITHIN.
TWO OUTDOOR TERRACES AND NATURAL LIGHT FROM SKYLIGHTS HELP TO BREAK UP THE INTERIOR SPACE AS BRIDGES CROSS OVER MAIN CIRCULATION (2.1).
CONCRETE MOLDS USED IN CONSTRUCTION CREATED VERTICAL LINE TEXTURE ON THE EXTERIOR FACADES, WHICH CAN BE EXPERIENCED AS YOU APPROACH THE MUSEUM (2.1). THE CAST IN PLACE CONCRETE WALLS HELP TO SHEILD THE CONTENTS OF THE EXHIBITS FROM THE INTENSE COLORADO SUN. IN ADDITION, THE SKYLIGHTS IMPLEMENT DIFFUSING GLASS AND OPERABLE SHADES TO CONTROL THE AMBIENT NATURAL LIGHT.

MICHAEL GREEN ARCHITECTURE ST PRINCE GEORGE, BC, CANADA 2014
THE WOOD INNOVATION AND DESIGN CENTRE IS A STRUCTURE THAT CLEARLY REPRESENTS AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE EDUCATION OF WOOD DESIGN THAT TAKES PLACE WITHIN (3.1). WHILE THE LOWER FLOORS ARE DEDICATED TO WOOD DESIGN EDUCATION, THE UPPER FLOORS HOUSE GOVERNMENT AND WOOD INDUSTRY ORGANIZATIONS TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR LEARNING AND COLLABORATION IN THE COMMUNITY OF WOOD CONSTRUCTION.
THE EITGHT STORY BUILDING IS THE WORLD'S TALLEST ALL TIMBER OFFICE BUILDING, AT 97 FEET (3.4). THE ONLY CONCRETE USED IN THE STRUCTURE IS IN THE GROUND FLOOR SLAB. THE WALLS ARE MASS TIMBER WHILE BEAMS AND COLUMNS ARE GLULAM. SIMPLE WOOD CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES WERE USED FOR THE DETAILS.
WHILE EXEMPLIFYING THE POTENTIAL FOR WOOD CONSTRUCTING IN MID-RISE STRUCTURES, THE SPACES CREATED ON THE INTERIOR SHOW HOW THE OPORTUNITES FOR THE SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL (3.4).
