A CONVERSATION RE-BRANDING YCN BRIEF
Brief: “A conversation My conversation is about green fanged monstrous spiders that are still out there this winter and they are dangerous for us humans. For this project I want to do something related to spiders and greenery environment around these insects. Therefore I’ve decided to go on this root of creating spiders web on different material for experimentation. The material that I will work with will link to greenery and I will also work with different surfaces such as leaves, clay, plastic, acrylic, glass, tiles and many more. The reason for this is because spider inhabit themselves in greenery and this is how the climate gets involved, due to the warmth of the colours , different shades of green with a hint of pink and red as this creates amusing out skate. I will then do delicate work of traditional henna patterns, that will symbolise the plants, trees and flowers. For the final piece my aim and target is to generate pattern work with the adaptations of the spiders web, before I do get on to the final piece I will carry on experimenting with series of material and medium before deciding on one. The final element that I want to create will be for the audience that love spider habitats and adore the pattern work, my target group would be the ones accompanied by greenery so therefore age group would be 18+ for both genders.
My concept is related to spiders, leading to spider web that symbolise figurative spider. I want to visualise the information about the danger of green fanged spiders. I would like to present this information in interesting way, to show what the concept is based on, therefore the spiders web would be the main focus of the overall concept. My main focus is to experimenting with spiders web, then take it one step further by producing range of sketches using different shapes and sizes. I will also try my best to use different techniques to include into my work, I will then develop the work by adding colours to my work, this is when I came in use with the colour wheel, to see which colour goes well with in its contraction. I will then have a look at architectural spiders web work to create a Inimitable spiders web design that involves a lot of geometric patters, Correspondingly that modify its greenery to it, this is because it will to help its colours to stand out after the sketch wok is completed, then try to create it in different materials and accumulate the pattern work together. To do all this I will look at various designers, and work on crockery by painted and drawing patterns of the spiders web on top of it, I went along with this concept of spiders web. I want to along the path to produce something that is link with spider webs.
“A conversation” Script
Maryiam: No, they are big as a tablespoon and they have green fangs.
Maryiam: Hmm … It’s because of the heat-wave we’ve had this year, whereas normally when the weather gets cold all the spiders and other insects die, but the ground is still warm, therefore these green fanged spiders are still out and they’re able to produce new ones.
Iqra: Yeah you’re right, let’s just hope the weather starts to drop down, even though we don’t like the weather to be cold, and the lights will be long, but at least we’ll get rid of these spiders, and the danger of these green fanged monsters will be over.
Iqra: Eww, that’s nasty they’ve got green fangs, I better keep a look out them then, I don’t want to come across any of these monsters.
Iqra: Oh ok, I wasn’t aware of all this, don’t you think they should do some sort of pest control to kill all of the harmful spiders.
Maryiam: Yeahh your right!
Maryiam: Yeah ... We all have to be very careful, when they sting it’s as painful as an injection, and the pain that is left behind is worse than any other pain and it gives you a painful sensation. I don’t blame this father of being afraid that these spiders could attack his 3 years old son, any parent would protect their children from these green fanged monsters.
Maryiam: Yeah you’re right they should do a pest control, to get rid of them.
Maryiam: Have you read the newspaper today?
Maryiam: Yeah … ermm but they aren’t any ordinary spiders either!
Iqra: No I haven’t, why what’s happened?
Iqra: Are they not?
Maryiam: Ok, Have a read of this article then? Iqra: Here let me have a look? Maryiam: Apparently there are so many spiders in the UK, like 100’s of them. Iqra: Oh my God! I didn’t know that there were so many spiders in the UK. Maryiam: I didn’t even know, till I read the newspaper today, where it status that they are suspected spiders in the UK! Iqra: Really, well I’ve heard that these sorts of insects in Asian counties, but it’s the first time I’m hearing the about in the UK.
Iqra: Hmm … Just you telling me about it, makes e SCARED, look I’ve got goose bumps now! I really don’t want to come across these spiders but what do you think … you know might have caused this?
Iqra: I really hope there’s a bigger solution just then pest control, because they are really dangerous and harmful for us all especially little children. Maryiam: Hmm … I just hope the temperature starts to drop down, if it doesn’t it could become a big problem for everyone, when I say everyone I mean everyone.
Date conversion took place: On: THURSDAY 25th SEPTEMBER 2014 At: 16:00 (PM) Title of the newspaper: DAILY STAR Title of newspaper article: TERRORISED BY ARMY OF GREEN FANG MONSTERS Title of conversation: DANGER OF THE GREEN FANGS The people that are taking part: TWO PEAOPLE ARE TAKING PART INTO THIS AND THEY ARE MARYIAM AND IQRA
Mind-Map “A Conversation”
Spider-Web Sketches
I looked at different sorts of spider webs that really influenced me to put into my work, I looked at handful of spider webs, with multiple range of shape, form and size, some where big, small, to an angle and some that covered the whole space. Some where also drawn on objects. After looking various different webs I started to sketch out my own spider web designs in a unique possible way, but keeping the shapes and size similar to its original shape and I was able to adapted my own style into the webs that I sketched out.
Colour Chart
I decided to look at a colour wheel so it can help me decide which colours go well with one another and which patterns will look better when applying into my work.
After I sketched out the spider webs I started the add colours and patterns so that it relates with my web work, I used mainly greens in my work, as I wanted to add more greenery as possible. I kept my pattern work simple and repetitive and tried to adapt other colours with the shades of green, such as the pink, red, and purple to symbolise other types of greenery such as flowers, roses etc.
Acrylic Based Example Work
I then looked at more spider webs, but this time I experimented with architecture based spider webs. From this research I came across a lot of designers that really influenced and inspired me to combine the ideas with my concept. The architecture webs that I have looked at have a lot of geometrical shapes used within the sculptures. The architecture structure are done in a very simple and elegant way that really attracted me to use it and adapt it into my designs. In order to adapt the architecture spider webs I started to work on a plain flat surface and used acrylic paint to give a 3D look. I tried this in three different styles to see how they will turn out to be.
Liz Burow Greenery Work
Liz Burow’s work concentrates on blurring the line between indoors and outdoors, hard and soft scale. Inspired by the topography and greenery of the natural world, Liz has created works that both respect and tease our efforts to domesticate the environment. Her felt-based wall hangings transform our wild landscape into interior décor and discern the beauty of roads and interchanges; her textile designs toy with our urban landscape, transforming familiar symbols into unusual patterns. Liz’s design work considers our impact on our public space, and conceives of ways of bringing this space into our homes.
When Arts Meet Nature: Gabee Meyer
This talented illustrator and pattern designer picks out random leaves and paints contemporary folk designs on them. Based on finding random leaves and paints folk meets contemporary patterns on them. In addition to her leaves project, Gabee is also a very talented illustrator and pattern maker.
Greenery Patter Work
I collected some leaves to experiment on them by drawing fine pattern on to the leaves by using diverse range of medium and to see, which sits well to compose them.
Development Work
Here I started to look at more greenery piece of work that will have symmetrical patterns involved with it. The patterns that I have looked at previously uses very fine patterns which I have also done on these green tiles.
After looking at handful of greenery pattern work, I started to work on my own patterns by experimenting on leaves and glass tiles. On these tiles I have combined spiders web and patterns to create this design.
Example Of Glass Bowl Art
I also started to look at glass bowl paintings, mainly the ones that have spider web painted on them, the reason I look at these type on bowls where because so I could adapt that style into my work by adding a stain glass effect to my work and the particular colours that are used in them, I made an attempt on painting on the bowl but it didn’t work out the way I expected it to be like, so therefore this attempt was failed.

Contemporary Illustration Patterns I stock Gelly Images
Traditional Henna Patterns
Laura Chapman
Laura Chapman’s work refine different things one thing in common all of the pieces are the usage of henna patterns , the patterns that I want to add into my work will adapt into the concept as well, that is because greenery is mainly seen when the weather is warm so around about spring & summer time, so this is where the climate is shown into the work.
She likes to weave intricate patterns into my work as I feel that it is attention to the little details that can be most captivating. More than anything I’m trying to create a visual world that gives the mundane a more magical feel and above all else I want my illustrations to make people smile.
Clarice Cliff Glass & Pottery Work
Clarice Cliff is, today, regarded as one of the most influential ceramics artists of the 20th Century & her work is collected, valued & admired the world over. She was born on January 20th 1899 in Tunstall, Stoke-onTrent & started work at the age of 13 in ‘The Potteries’. Clarice moved to the AJ Wilkinson’s pottery factory in 1916. She was ambitious & her skills were recognised so that eventually she was given her own studio. She creating her own patterns & the famous ‘Bizarre’ wares were launched in 1927.
Clarice Cliff Influential Work
For influence purposes I looked at Clarice Cliff ’s work, her work lead me to doing my own, what I really liked about her work was the colours that she uses and the style that she painted in, that really brought my attention to her work, so after looking at quality work of pottery, I made an attempt on doing my own painting and pattern work on some plates.
I am very proud of the overall result, I personally think I’ve done a pretty well job. For more inspiration I looked at Febrrege art work and the way he uses pattern and his style to enhance and blend together the vibrant colours. This has really got me mesmerising and inspiring.
Peter Carl Faberge Work Peter Carl Faberge, legendary artist-jeweler, goldsmith to the Russian Imperial Court, was the creative and entrepreneurial genius behind the world-renowned company that bore his name. He captured his extraordinary moment in time through exquisite jewels and precious objects that still resonate today with the passions and poignancy of a lost world. Deeply imbued with the spirit of their age, these masterpieces remain timeless in their recherché beauty, breathtaking craftsmanship and absolute dedication to perfection.
Like the swan song of a dying civilisation, Faberge’s jewels, personal accessories and objects of fantasy, richly layered with cultural references, conjure up a vision of Belle Époque, its leisured luxury and ravishing refinement, the fabulous new wealth of tycoons and industrialists. French in their artistic sensibilities but with a profound and poetic Russian soul, Faberge’s works of art, like the stories they tell, continue to exert a powerful fascination as hypnotic today as it ever was.
Final Piece Idea I will create my final piece based on delicate work of traditional henna patterns, which will symbolise the plants, trees and flowers. For the final piece my aim for the final piece is to generate pattern work with the adaptations of the spiders webs, before to do that do I will with two pacific material and medium, which will be glass and leather. The final elements that will be creating will surely connect to the audience that who are spider lovers and adore the pattern work to the extreme level. My target group will be the ones that are accomplished by greenery so henceforth, I will also be using typography within my final piece, but very simple and readable which will be Helvetica. I’ve decided to use simple typography because I would the text to stand out itself as a individual rather than merging with the green patterns work.

Target Audience
Above I have five different mood boards, the first one is about Huddersfield re-branding companies, second one is on the chosen company that had been selected by the group and myself, the third one is all about the target audiences, forth one mood board is on audiences reviews along with that I made other mood boards on; branding and packaging. I then went on to looking at different concepts on my own design.
Concepts
Here I have listed three different topics for the concept to help me re-brand this company that I have chose in the best way possible, without inconvenience, I have kept the concept very easy, simple and modest, so that my ideas don not get interacted and over crowed accompanied by that I have given myself some guidance on what I can include when doing the re-branding.

Experimenting On Logo’s
Here I experimented with different fonts by looking fonts by looking at my typography mood board that I created so it’s apposite and interesting by giving a retro look. I then had to create two version of typography colour scheme that was done because I thought the word Queenies could represent royalty so I choose the retro colour to represents the 90’s style. From the different colour schemes I finalised it by choosing the retro scheme, which I then applied to my logo. I used the same colour that I chose at the start maroon and dark brown, but in different font style so that I could compare and contrast before choosing the final logo.
Logos
Here I have experimented with geometrically patterns by using triangles as a shape and with that I was able to make a hexagon shape, which was done by linking the triangles together. By using the hexagon shape to brand the company and create a logo out of it for the Queenies coffee shop.
Pattern Work
These are three different examples for the back of the business card and loyalty card covers that will be branding for the queenies coffee shop.
Colour Palate & Logo
Q I have created a logo for Queenies, here I have repeated the shape various times to create a template of patterns to use for the branding. I have experimented with different layout of the pattern before continuing with a final pattern. At this point I decided to change the my coffee shop logo because I thought that I should design a logo that is different from other coffee shop logos as they are recognisable due to the traditional symbol of a coffee cup design and I want to make my logo more interesting. Therefore I decided to make the logo based on my pattern that represents a coffee cup but in a more curious way. I have also transferred my pattern onto the business card along with this I created a loyalty card to for the customers that visit the coffee shop regularly. Lastly the colour scheme I have chosen for the branding are maroon, red and grey the colour are shown above..

These are the stickers I’ve designer to stick onto my packaging such as the on the take-out bags and tissues, also I designed and created the cup holders with the design printed out on my branding equipment.
Final Branding
Here I have used my official branding patterns to brand the items that are in coffee shops, I have branded and also created take-out cups, in three different sizes, take out bags big and small, cup holds, tissues, business card, loyalty card menu and black board to write on. I made sure that all that patterns are consistent so that it goes together will all the branding stuff, the reason for that was so that it blends with the rest of the equipment. I wanted to keep everything simple and straight forward so its not over the top and get crowed with too much pattern work so that’s why I keep it all modest and less complex so each and ever element stands-out along individually.

J2O
YNC Student Awards 2015 Maryiam Mobein Mukhtar Student of Huddersfield University
Brief: YCN
Redesign J2O
Background: J2O was born out of Britvic’s historic expertise in juice blending. When it launched in 1998, J2O was a pioneer in the adult soft drinks category, enabling consumers to have a satisfying drink experience that didn’t disappoint when socialising with friends. By expertly blending different fruit juices with their unique aromas, J2O is carefully crafted to create a satisfying and multidimensional taste experience. The drink delivers strong, well-rounded flavours that have a velvety, sweet mouth-feel with lingering fruit flavours and a zing Creative Requirements: Please share up to eight images in total showing your solution for individual bottles and four pack, along with supporting information that briefly articulates your idea in 400 words. You can also submit physical material such as prototypes and mock-ups etc. We’re also interested in seeing the creative process that led to your final idea. This can be hand sketches or alternative design directions you explored before selecting your final one. However, despite a strong heritage story around blending, many consumers are not aware that J2O is a blend of two fruits.
Creative Challenge:
Creative Requirements:
Considerations:
As it stands, 40% of J2O consumption is by those aged 16 and under, but we’re wanting to change that. The current artwork design is not seen as ‘adult’ by many; the colours are viewed as bright and childish, and some consumers have even described it as cheap and ‘chavvy’. We’d therefore like you to redesign J2O to appeal to a target audience of 25-35-year-old men and women. The design should make them proud to be seen holding J2O in bars, restaurants and at home, and should bring through J2O’s expressive, unpretentious and playful personality.
Deliverables & Additional Information For guidance on how to submit your work, please adhere to the main Deliverables information which can be found at the YCN website. Any additional elements referenced in this brief can be found in the supporting Project Pack which can be found in the Student Awards section of the YCN website.
Ensure that consumers know that J2O is a blend of two fruits. The J2O logo and bottle shape drives consumer recognition so must be maintained. The J2O brand is synonymous with the colour green that is on all of our packaging. Please make sure that it features in some capacity when coming up with design ideas. In the past, the depiction of fruit on our packaging has increased taste credentials so although it’s not compulsory to do so, bear this in mind when coming up with design ideas. We would encourage you to visit bars, pubs and supermarkets to view J2O against its competitors to better understand the scale of the challenge.
Designs must be created for both our Orange & Passion Fruit flavour and our Apple & Mango flavour. Please also come up with packaging designs for the 4pk packaging for each of these flavours. You’ll find cutter guide artwork in the Project Pack.
Please share up to eight images in total showing your solution for individual bottles and four pack, along with supporting information that briefly articulates your idea in words (up to 400 characters) Should you wish, you can also submit physical material such as prototypes and mock-ups etc. We’re also interested in seeing the creative process that led to your final idea. This can be hand sketches or alternative design directions you explored before selecting your final one.
Why I choose this brief? Reason: The reason why I’ve chosen this brief is because I feel confident and passionate about re-branding the J2O logo, correspondingly I find that package designing is my strength and I’m cable to promote the product to the target audience. I will be redesigning the J2O logo into the style that I find better and also keep in mind what will suit the audience preferences because the J2O drink is aimed at adults aged 25-35 years old for both male and female genders. This is one particular drink that can be served in places such as Supermarkets Restaurants, CafÊs and Bars; this drink has also been classified as a healthy drink and can be replaced by alcoholic drinks.
Britvic Soft Drinks Brands: Britvic have been making drinks for more than 75 years – ever since we first blended lemon juice, sugar and barley crystals at Wimbledon in 1935. And so began our tradition of innovation, and our long history of introducing new flavours, new ingredients and new ways of drinking to the UK. Today, their portfolio of brands includes incredible variety, and offers refreshment and hydration to young and old alike. With a range that includes sparkling sodas, sophisticated juice drinks, ice tea, squash, mineral waters, mixers and energy drinks, you’re sure to find something to love.
Brainstorm
Mood-Boards Audience & purpose About my three mood boards: My mood boards show the main board line about what this brief is all about the J2O promote the young generation age between 25-35 years old and also endorse where the J2O drinks can be sold, I think places where young youth may like to socialize and may be family and friends where they feel little more chilled out and relaxed. The target audience was 25–35-yearold men and women who love getting together with their friends and family, both in and out of home. They are grown up, confident, have an established social network, and feel relaxed with those around them. They don’t need alcohol to boost their confidence or lower their inhibitions and are happy to interchange between alcohol and soft drinks.
Combination Of 2 Different Fruit Mix
Developing Patterns Pattern Prints & Design Mood-board: The patterns will be based on my own initial thoughts and ideas; I will be sketching out the final design on illustrator to give the scheme some volume and intensity in to it. The pattern work will be part of my packing and may be the labels on the glass bottles. The final pattern will go on to the packing of the J20 drinking bottle and packaging box, I want to choose that pattern that will grab my attention to in immediately, I’m sure then it will do the same for the audience too, plus I want to create and choose pattern that are different from any other packaging and never seen before. On the other hand I will also ask my friend for her thoughts and opinions on which pattern she thinks is that best for packaging, she can also come into my audience category will match my target audience group.
Inspirational Designs I’ve found different inspirational things that will help me for my J20 brief project, I had a look at various different layouts, colour, design and also branding product that have already court the audience attention. As I mentioned before J2O is the healthiest drink that is out there for the audience to enjoy, the main speciality about the drink is that it holds two exotic flavours, which I have to visually show the audience in order for them to buy the drinks.
Print Development I have merged the animal print patterns to the fruit flavours patterns that i had previously created. This will be used on the logo, neck bottle sticker and also drink packaging.
Smoothie Branding
Different Design Packaging
J20 Apple & Mango Fruit Sketches Initial Ideas: Over here I have sketched out different design logos that are relevant to the j2o label, for influence I looked at various juice packaging, by that I was able to produce out my own sketches, that are on the right hand side of the page. Also I was able to do more then one visual concept for the logo so I can choose one of the best one, when design the j2o logo, as that is what I’m told to do for the brief.
J20 Orange & Passion Fruit Sketches Initial Ideas: As what I had said earlier on for the Apple and Mango j2o flavour, I have done the same thing for Orange and Passion Fruit as well, Did more sketches to see which look the best for the j20 logo design.
Print Packaging Here I have created patterns for my packaging, these patterns are for the logo design, that I will be creating, my influence for my pattern were geometrical patterns, I looked at range of patterns to come up with my own.
Logo Design This is my logo that I have created for J20, I came up with this design by combining two of the fruits of this drink and the use of colour link in with the fruits.

Design Template for Bottle This is the bottle template that I have illustrated to see how my logo and pattern on the actual J20 juice bottle.
Design 1 Here are my first and second drafts of the design that I have created for the J20 drink bottles, I have added different shapes and patterns to the bottles before I selected the final one. I have experimented with the neck bottle stickers by using the main colours and patterns of the flavoured drinks.
