Classes for Children
Drama & Theatre Classic Tales
Ages: 4-7, Robin DeLamater
Classic Tales is a multi-sensory approach to guiding children’s experience with literature in a classroom rather than stage environment. After reading each tale aloud, we work as a group to express the story dramatically. We arrange props and simple scenery, choose costumes from the collection, use speech and song to tell the story and move expressively to instrumental music for processions, dances and other plot elements. Parents watch the final minutes of each class to view our work.

Portrait subjects are drawn from both professional and non-professional models. Co-op members bring a diverse level of artistic background and the ability to work independently. These workshops do not include critique or instruction, but provide attendees the opportunity to work at their own pace with materials of their own preference. The usual model fee paid by co-op members is $7 per 3-hour session. It is the practice that people registered for any of the three Maryland Hall drawing/painting co-ops are welcome to attend sessions of the other two co-ops (morning figure/evening figure/ morning portrait) by paying the model fee for sessions they attend. Portrait co-op artwork is exhibited in the Maryland Hall cafĂŠ alcove throughout the year. For more information, please contact John Eden at john.w.eden1@gmail.com.

Fall 2014
Capital Campaign “Goodbye school hall… hello concert hall!”-The Capital
Returning and new Maryland Hall patrons will encounter a transformed theatre when the 2014-15 performing arts season premieres in the fall! The summer’s theatre renovation of the former high school auditorium into a modern theatre is the first phase of an $18 million renovation to modernize and improve the performing arts wing at Maryland Hall. This first phase will include the renovation of the theatre’s orchestra level seating and the addition of several elements to the stage that will significantly enhance the patron and performer experience. The Summer 2014 Phase One renovations will result in improved acoustics, lighting and sight lines to the stage as well as new comfortable seats with more leg room. Parterre seating brings a “box seat” look to the theatre and a unique audience perspective. Importantly, ADA accessibility for both patrons and performers is improved. The construction of an orchestra recess lowers musicians in front of the stage for better viewing of performances such as opera and dance. An orchestra shell, stage risers and a stage extension complete the theatre experience. Operable acoustic shutters on the restored windows will make sunlight possible in the theatre for the first time in decades. But this is just the beginning of an improved performing arts’ experience! The entire $18 million multi-phase facility modernization also includes other upgrades to the theatre including the balcony and main lobby, construction of two contemporary theatre wings, the creation of a new 150-seat community theatre and the addition of flexible gathering spaces. Maryland Hall is planning for Phase 2 which includes the construction of the south wing providing critical upgrades to the electric service and air conditioning to meet the expanding needs of the whole performing arts venue. It will also include a loading dock, freight elevator and prop/costume storage to better accommodate our growing and diverse schedule of performers and shows. The Campaign for Maryland Hall is a five-year $18 million capital campaign to renew and improve the performing arts venue at Maryland Hall. Funding for this capital project comes from the support of the community – the individuals, foundations, businesses and government – who value the critical role that Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts plays in shaping the social, physical, cultural and economic identity of our community through the arts. For more information about supporting The Campaign for Maryland Hall, contact The Capital Campaign Office 410-263-5544 ext. 26.
