M H S -32 -

JE F F E R S O N C IT Y -6

Displaying a tremendous offensive weapon in the form of Larry Watson, M H S romped to an impressive 26-6 victory over untested Jefferson City. Not to be -forgotten was the gallant defense shown; such standouts as John Farmer, Don Parkins, and many more, con tributed to a successful opening game.

M H S -13 -

L E N O IR C IT Y -20

Victory turned into defeat when a Lenoir City panther returned a M H S kickoff 85 yards for a T D . Fighting with determination, M H S took the lead on a 45-yard gallop by Roy Stinnett and an extra point by Dale Long. Another tally was made on a three-yard leap by Watson, but 1 3 points were not enough to win a hard fought game.

M H S-6 - HOLSTO N-O T he defense-minded Red Rebels upset favored Holston by a six-point aftargin. M 'H S’s lone tally came early in the Fourth quarter when Larry Watson tossed Jerry Roddy a 17-yard pass to set up a five-yard gallop by Watson for six points. Our defense was led by Bill Peery, Donald Parkins, Bill Ross, and Dale Long.

First row: Archie Anderson, Jerry Roddy, T ony W hite, Bill Dawson, Dale Long, Phil Renfro, Don Parkins, Lynn Hitch, Gene Thomas, Gary King. Second row: Boh Studley, Bill Thomas, Bill Ross, Tom Stafford, Jim m y Gam er, Jerry Dishman, Danny Rogers, Bricky Sturgeon, Frank Eggers,

M H S -19 - M A D IS O N V IL L E -14 Our hard-hitting Rebels downed the Tornadoes of Madisonville to extend their victories to three. T h e passing and m nning of Larry W at son, along with the ball handling of R oy Stin nett, proved superior to Madisonville’s defense. W ith the recovery of a late fumble, M H S ’s lines again fought to preserve the margin of victory.

M H S-32 -

Captain Larry Watson

P O R T E R -7

The M H S Rebels rode high on the victory wagon as they defeated the Porter Panthers 32-7. T his was a sweet revenge for last year’s upset at the hands of these same Panthers. Our usual hackfield standouts; Watson, Stinnett, and Stafford, carried the bulk of the offense, as the Rebel defense held the visitors to a mere seven points. Not to be forgotten was the forward wall of our line, such boys as Don Parkins, Bill Dawson, and T ony W hite displayed tremendous effort in stopping the Porter threats.

M H S-20 - A LC O A-6 W ith the force of a mighty battleship, M H S swept by Alcoa for a well-earned victory. Faced with a six-point disadvantage, the Rebels began to come to life early in the second quarter. The power of Larry Watson and the kicking of

80

Dale Long proved too much for the Tornadoes. Our forces picked up mobile power and drove for three T D ’s to completely outclass the highly regarded Tornadoes. Playing superb defense were the entire line led by Steve Shields, Bill Pe.ery, Bill Dawson, T ony W hite, and many others.

M H S-7 - S E V IE R V IL L E -7 W ith Stafford and Watson injured, the “ big Red” from M E1S fought favored Sevierville to a tie. Drawing first blood on a pass from Long to Roddy, M H S led through the first half. Scor ing early in the third quarter, Sevierville evened the score, and thus climaxed this rivalry.

Steve Shields, W illis Brindle. T h ird row: Coach Kenneth Shepard, Roy Gregory, Thomas Gutridge, Tom Talley, LaTry Watson, Bill Peery, John Fanner, N ew t Holloway, Roy Stinnett, Pete Paine, Richard Talley, Lloyd Lawhon, Steve M cCulloch, Coach Don Rawls.

M H S-20 - EH S-6 W ith Larry Watson scoring and Long kick ing, M H S completed its conference schedule with an unblemished record. On three separate occasions Watson raced for the score. T h e fol lowing week Larry received mention as an AllState Back for that performance. Not to be for gotten was the “ Stone-wall” defense of our line men. Behind the backing of Peery and Parkins, the backfield found its scoring chores much easier.

M H S-0 -

M c M IN N -13

T h e boys of Ace Adams proved too powerful for our gallant Rebels. Since our blocking never began to click, our defense had little chance of being turned loose. M H S fought on even terms for most of the game, and very impressively even though the score didn’t so indicate. Co-Captain Roy Stinnett M H S-6 - LO UDON-O On the fisrt play from scrimmage, Watson plowed his way through the defensive line for 64 yards and a T D . There were three such moments of brightness; however, each time a flag lying somewhere on the ground signified no score. Although the offense was held back by penalties, M H S displayed the usual defense that had proved to be such a great asset. Again such linemen as Parkins, Dawson, Peery, and Roddy were outstanding.

M H S-40 - N E W P O R T -7 Closing the season with a stirring display of offense, M H S unleashed an 85-yard run on the opening kickoff and the visiting eleven were never able to recover. Our forces scored in every quarter, and the final tally came on a magnificent pass interception and 100-yard run by Larry Watson. Offensive yardage was gained mainly by W atson, Stinnett, and Stafford—Long also added four P A T S .
