AMERICAN FIELD SERVICE T|-i@ Am erican Field Service prom otes frie n d sh ip among students of diffe re n t countries. At M aryville High this year, we are hosting two students. Not only does the local chapter support students who com e here, but it also helps to send our students abroad. To supp ort these activities, the club has many fu n d -ra isin g projects throughout the year, such as tag day, selling pecans, and selling C hristm as cards. The club also sponsors post-gam e parties to let students become better acquainted w ith Magne and Nobuo.

MAGNE Guys and Gals at MHS, It has really been a great experience to be with you all at M aryville High this year. I have learned a lot about your way of life, about tolerance, about people and about life. You have all - even the teachers - been frie n d ly and helpful to me, and have given me the op p o rtu n ity to have a GOOD TIME. I am grateful that you have all accepted me, understood me and - sm iled (helped me sm iling). I am glad I have had the chance to be w ith you at MHS and experienced many good fo o tb a ll games, pep rallies, club m eetings, p ractices and classes. I w ill prom ise to tell people at home about your h o sp ita lity and your concern. I hope our w ork w ill help to bring understanding and more peace to our w orld. God bless you all! Love Magne

NOBUO My dear friends at MHS, I want to express my feelings fo r this high school and this te rrific country. First of all, I really app re ciate how nice every body has been to me. I th in k it is very w onderful to make friends w ith these young students in this country and to share our enthusiastic feelings with each other, at school and in e x tra c u rric u la r activities. How m arvelous! When I came to Am erica, I was very nervous and uneasy since I was in strange surroundings, and I did not know “ the ropes” . However, through this year, I have learned the Am erican way of life. Now M aryville High is my adopted school, and the City of M aryville is my second home town. Now I am going to be a pioneer from Am erica to show what Am erica really looks like to the Japa nese people. Your Japanese friend, Nobuo Takenaka
