Happy Holidays Divisional Project Governor’s Project DCON Reporting Action after UNICEF Contacts

Happy Holidays The holidays that go on during the winter months are a wonderful opportunity to complete service projects. You could make blankets for the poor, serve food near Christmas Eve at a homeless shelter, or buy gifts for Hanukah. There are millions of ideas for service projects during this time of year. I hope all of you spent your holiday with your loved ones and had a wonderful time. Just remember that the greatest gifts you can receive, do not cost any money. Love is the greatest gift you can give. With this new year, I am so excited to report all that will go on at the upcoming District Winter Board meeting. I will let all of you know what occurs. Love, Mason Woods - Lieutenant Governor of Division 28

The Divisional Project UPDATE This year’s divisional project will be a teen jean drive! Essentially each club will participate in collecting jeans that will be donated to homeless and less fortunate teenagers. There are so many teens who will go without a new pair of jeans because they simply do not have the funds. I know that I would be absolutely distraught if I could not simply purchase some new pants to wear during the cold. In this drive, we can collect any clothing items made out of denim (e.g. jean pants, denim jackets, denim shorts, etc). All items collected will have to be collected in separate bins, then bagged according to the gender supposed to wear them. I will ensure that all jeans are picked up and delivered to where they are supposed to go. It will be somewhat of a group effort, but every club should participate in this project. It’s easy and I cannot wait to do it with all of you. Make sure that you contact me before you begin your project. I have read the emails sent to me already that some of you are collecting them! Fantastic! I am still working out some details with the shelter we will be donating the denim to. Please just give me a little more time because they have been busy during the holidays. Sincerely, Mason Woods

Governor’s Project

If you have any questions or would like more information, please e-mail me at: governor@tokeyclub.com Thank you all so much for your service! Rachel Iselin District Governor

The 2015-2016 Governor’s Project for TexasOklahoma is called “K-Family Konnections”. It is a project dedicated to uniting the different branches of the K-Family through joint service, joint fundraising, and interclub meetings. I want to focus on the bond between Kiwanis and Key Club by having regions create K-family interclub events and by challenging Key Clubs to support Kiwanis projects such as the Disaster Relief Backpacks program. Throughout my journey in Key Club, my greatest supporters have been the adults who have advocated for me and worked alongside me to help me achieve my goals. I believe that the bonds we create within this organization are irreplaceable and something unique to the KFamily that should be expanded upon and emphasized. Every Kiwanian I’ve ever met has been a genuine, caring person who has inspired me to remain within the K-Family and to give everything I can to become a better leader and a better person. I think all of us have a story very similar to this and have known at least one other person in the K-Family who has impacted their lives. So when it comes down to it, my project is very simple: reach out to your local Kiwanis Clubs, Circle K Clubs, Builder’s Clubs, K-Kids Clubs, and Aktion Clubs; Invite them to you meetings, try to attend their meetings, schedule fundraising events together, volunteer at a food bank together, etc. Make the most of the opportunities you have to work with individuals who want to change the world.

DCON On October 3rd, at Fall Rally, the 2016 DCON theme was released - Service: Mission Accepted! The idea of this theme was based on Mission Impossible. The theme will invoke a sense of adventure and espionage, as service will become thrilling for all attendees. For those who have yet to attend DCON, it is a multi-day retreat (this year, beginning on April 21, 2016) at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dallas, Texas. It is a time for Texas-Oklahoma Key Clubbers to unite, celebrate a year of service, learn new ways to benefit the community, and make memories that last. Interesting aspects of the event include forums, district staff elections, the welcoming activity, service fair, contests and awards, and so much more. This year, we intend to incorporate the theme into all aspects of the convention. From becoming a secret agent at welcoming activity to secret missions throughout the weekend, we’ll be able to complete the mission of tackling service together. One way to get started now? Tag #todcon2016 with pictures from past conventions you have attended. Or if you went to Fall Rally, share pictures of you wearing the prizes you received! Start preparing today, and be ready to attend the unforgettable DCON 2016, a place where we can tackle the mission of service together!

Reporting Each club is required to send out a monthly report to the district secretary. The reports consist of how many meetings your club had, who attended, and all of the events your club held. The minutes from every meeting are also turned in with the report. The reports are to be postmarked by the fifth of the following month and sent to the district secretary. For instance, the report for August needs to be postmarked AT LEAST by September 5th.

You can find out more information about reporting at www.tokeyclub.com/resources/ secretary/

Clubs should know how to report by now. Every club needs to be reporting regardless if there were any meetings, any activities, or anything at all (although I hope this is never the case). The district does count points by reports; however, that should not be the only reason you send in reports. It should not be the main reason you send in reports at all. The district wants to have a record of every club and needs to account for every meeting and activity each club participates in. Rather than seeing the reports as something that is mainly used for points, see it as the medium by which the district uses to account for each club. So if you did nothing, the district wants to know. In other words, it is important.

Recognition

Your club has worked hard to collect funds this Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF season, and deserves proper recognition for doing so. Below are a few of the many different ways you may honor members of your club!

The Unity Award

What better way to honor your Kiwanis Club this Kiwanis Family Month than with the Unity Award? Key Clubs can do so by raising at least US$500, and having their respective Kiwanis Club match the amount your club has raised. Your club then recieves a 1K patch, and you also get to present the Unity Award patch to your Kiwanis club!

The Elimidallion The Elimidalion is an individual award presented to an advisor or member. A donation of US$625+ earns the person you choose to honor a medallion, and saves 350+ lives!

1K Patch This year’s goal for each Key Club is to raise US$1000. By doing so, your club recieves the 1K patch, and saves 550+ lives! This recognition is presented to clubs at their respective spring conventions.

To learn more about these awards, and other recognition opportunities, visit theeliminateproject.org under the SLP recognition tab.
