Construction Contractors in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Automation The world is fast-changing. Artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics are infiltrating every sector of the supply chain in our “information world”. Over the next 30 years, the construction contractors white collar jobs are more at risk to be automated than the traditional blue-collar jobs. There is a movement to increase the value of these services, by increasing their efficiency and effectiveness. The workers of the future who will not be automated are professionals who can identify and utilize expertise. These are the “Construction Contractors of the Future”. They must adapt to the new age of artificial intelligence, information systems and automation. Dr. Dean proposes that identifying and utilizing expertise to cut cost and dominantly increase performance is the only way to secure their future positions. The way to do this is called the Best Value Approach. He proposes construction contractor professionals need to increase their responsibilities and minimize their workload. The “Construction Contractors of the Future” is a different paradigm from the traditional professional. They will use simplicity instead of technical complexity and utilize the language of metrics to simplify. They affect the entire supply chain by bringing efficiency, simplicity, and transparency. The “Construction Contractors of the Future” must learn this new paradigm, vocabulary, and actions 2.5 to be successful and sustainable in the future. PROJECT Fee: $225 per person

He is also responsible for the licensing of the Best Value Approach (BVA) intellectual property at Arizona State University. His research area is a technology made for the future and replaces the human cognitive process (thinking and decision making) of project/facility/supply chain managers with a simple structure of alignment rules. The BVA allows project/facility/supply chain managers to increase their responsibilities and create value, while reducing their workload and cost.

Transition to Leadership Helping people have a successful transition into a leadership role has never been more important. Unfortunately, people are often put into leadership roles and are not fully equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to excel in their roles. It is often assumed that effective team members will be able to lead others well, but the skills, insights, and vision required of effective leaders must be learned, practiced, and developed over time. Transition to Leadership helps new and aspiring leaders learn how to form relationships and networks, build their team, increase their self-awareness, and drive results through the work of others. This hands-on, dynamic learning experience exposes new leaders to the common obstacles encountered when moving into a leadership position and teaches them strategies to overcome those challenges so they can maximize their effectiveness as a leader.

The State-of-the-Art Construction Contractor Process to Delivering Services The Best Value Approach (BVA) is a construction contractor approach that uses automation in the procurement and project management function to create simplicity and increases the responsibilities and value of industry professionals’ work but reduces their workload. The BVA replaces complexity and decision making of the CC professional with the identification and utilization of expertise. It has been proven to cut cost by 30%, deliver on time, minimize contractor risk, and change orders to less than 1%, and uses the language of performance metrics to communicate and create transparency. It is backed by 28 years of research test results (2,000+) to validate its concepts. The BVA changes the paradigm from an owner controlled to a vendor-controlled 2.5 environment. It changes the contractual passing of risk to the mitigation of risk PROJECT by the expert vendor. Instead of using the traditional approach of risk transfer, MANAGEMENT it utilizes the contractor’s ability to preplan and track time and cost deviations to mitigate risk. It answers many of the research questions involving prequalification, contractor performance metrics and how to increase the performance of projects in any service.

Crucial Skills for Holding Ourselves and Others Accountable

DR. DEAN KASHIWAGI

Wherever two or more people cohabitate or collaborate, interpersonal problems emerge. Our ability to prevent and resolve these problems largely depends on how well we hold one another accountable to standards, expectations, promises and commitments. In fact, accountability is a major marker between healthy and unhealthy relationships and organizations. As people improve in their ability to hold one another accountable, they also improve trust, responsibility, efficiency, engagement, and performance. In this seminar, we’ll introduce a straightforward process 2.5 for resolving performance problems, strengthening trust and reliability, and LEADERSHIP eliminating inconsistency. We’ll share strategies and skills for holding ourselves and peers accountable—regardless of position or authority.

KEYNOTE The Power to Stand! Whether in business, community, or in our personal lives, every person or organization will face adversity, uncertainty, and change. Despite being knocked down, the successful ones find The Power to Stand. They are resilient and learn how to respond and adapt. We all have choices…we can let unfortunate situations define us or we can refuse to let our lives be shaped by circumstance. Perseverance in challenging times isn’t about the physical act of standing… it’s about attitude, and the ability to shape yourself in the face of adversity. In this powerful keynote message, Chris Norton will share his story to motivate and inspire you, your team, and your company stand in the face of adversity, stand for an idea, and stand to empower the world! Chris was born and raised on Bondurant, Iowa and as a freshmen football player at Luther College in Decorah, Chris got knocked down…Hard!! He saw the opening for a tackle, but mistimed his tackle by a split second. Instead of taking down the returner with his shoulder, his head collided with the ball carrier’s legs. In an instant, Chris lost all feeling and movement from the neck down. Chris was told he had a 3% chance to ever be able to move again. With the support of his friends, family, faith, and the love of his life, Emily, Chris proved the doctors wrong, and walked the stage at graduation. Most recently, walked Emily 7 yards down the aisle of their wedding. They are now foster parents and have adopted 5 girls. Chris’ life story titled 7 Yards was released in 2021 and is available on Netflix, Amazon Prime and AppleTV.

SAFETY AWARDS BREAKFAST SPONREDBY

Wednesday, March 2, 2022 8:15 – 9:45 am

Roberts will present the Annual Outstanding Company Safety Achievement Awards to a general contractor and specialty contractor; the Safety Professional and Safety Champion Awards to two deserving individuals. Attendees of the breakfast will also be treated to a special keynote presentation by safety author, trainer, and consultant Rodney Grieve.

KEYNOTE Identifying Cultural Hazards When we hear the words “hazard assessment”, we often think of physical and chemical hazards. But what if the biggest hazard in your organization is hidden in your culture? Culture, defined as “the way we do things around here”, is created by your people leaders --- what they say or don’t say, what they do or don’t do. This keynote message will look at some clues that your culture may be contributing to safety failures. In this engaging, informative, and entertaining message, we examine the causes and what leaders, both formal and informal, can do to effectively change your current culture into a culture of success. A culture of success is one that maintains a balance of productivity, quality, and safety. This message looks at how the organizational leaders, from top to bottom, maintain this crucial balance through four elements: experience, knowledge, focus and pace. Being out of balance in any of the elements exposes us to an incident. Rodney is the founder of BRANTA Worldwide, coauthor of SOAR: A Gate-to-Gate Journey of Leadership Essentials, and author of the best-selling Defend Your Profits: Safety Tools for Bottom Line Improvement. He has over 25 years of industry and consulting experience helping organizations, teams, and individuals create a culture of success. Since 2000, Rodney has delivered keynote programs and facilitated safety leadership sessions with clients ranging from construction to food packaging & heavy equipment manufacturing to mining. As a result, he has developed the delivery style and content to be effective anywhere in the organizational structure. Rodney has worked with thousands of leaders, from front-line supervisors to senior executives, throughout North America as well as with groups in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
