MBI/CSSI is proud to announce our Construction Competent Person Rodeo. We have developed this rodeo in a response to the need in the field for enhanced knowledge and competency in these high hazard tasks. Our mission is to create more effective high function jobsites that run safely, through the curriculum, workshops, education, and trainers. Through this course participants will have the knowledge to return to their jobsites more confident in performing competent person level duties, while identifying and communicating potential hazards.

Competent Person Trenching and Excavation
In this 4-hour course attendees will be educated under the OSHA standard CFR 1926 Subpart P. All employees must be trained in hazard recognition and the proper way of working in and around construction excavations sites. The standard covers general requirements, soil classification, sloping and benching, timber shoring for trenches, aluminum hydraulic shoring, alternatives to timber shoring, selection of PPE. Participants will come out of this course with the competent person level knowledge to monitor and perform daily inspections of trenching, shoring, and excavation activities. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Competent Person Confined Space Entry
In this 4-hour course, participants will develop proper procedures for making entry into Permit Required Confined Spaces. This program will prepare participants to operate in the capacity of Entrant, Attendant or Entry Supervisor during routine entries. Participants will become familiar with the OSHA Standard 1910.146, 1926.1203 and NFPA Standards 1006, 1670. This course involves 4 hours of classroom and practical application in simulated and actual permit spaces utilizing the appropriate permit procedures. The purpose of this session is to explain strategies to safeguard employee’s health and safety when dealing with potential dangers associated with confined spaces. Individuals will gain competent knowledge in proper entry program procedures, facility pre-planning, tying knots, new equipment, and proper patient packaging. Hands-on skills will be conducted in a mobile confined space trailer. This course is required by OSHA before an employee can enter a Permit Required Confined Space. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Competent Person Scaffold Inspections - STI Certified Course
The 8 hour Scaffold Competent Person course provides detailed instruction in scaffold hazard recognition and common safety issues including a thorough discussion of OSHA regulations, manufacturers’ recommended assembly instructions, and the topics required by 29CFR1926.454 for the different types of scaffolding. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Specifying the General Requirements for Frame, Tube, Clamp and System Scaffolding 2. Determining the specific safety rules and steps associated with conducting scaffold inspections 3. Specifying the major elements of OSHA’s Regulation 29 CFR Subpart L-Scaffolding

Competent Person Fall Protection - 3M Certified Course
This two-day course educates students on the various components of a worksite fall protection program and will also help develop the skills required of a Competent Person. Participants will learn course content through a combination of direct classroom instruction and multiple workshops. This course engages students with interactive workshops for assessing anchor points, full body harnesses, connector combability, Vertical & Horizontal Systems, climbing & positioning, Descent & Rescue, Equipment inspections and systems analysis. Course participants are those who may be involved with a managed fall protection program including the employer, supervisor, safety personnel, workers, and rescuers. This course will be delivered through the 3M curriculum 6424 - FALL PROTECTION COMPETENT PERSON and will provide students with an engaging and enjoyable learning environment. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Competent Person Rigging Inspection - ITI Certified Course
This 4-hour Rigging & Inspection course is designed to provide participants with a competent person level of knowledge of rigging gear inspection, proper rigging procedures, and load control using typical rigging techniques. Classroom interactive, and problem-solving workshops. All hook rigging devices will be discussed; i.e. shackles, spreader bars, etc. Load weight calculations and center of gravity will also be covered. Students will come out of this course with a better understanding and competency in effectively inspecting rigging equipment, and assessing the overall competent of a lifting operation. Adult First Aid/CPR/AED - Red Cross Certified Course
This Adult First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches attendees to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies for victims about 12 years and older. In addition, this interactive course teaches skills that participants need to know in order to provide immediate care for a suddenly ill or injured person until more advanced medical care arrives to take over. The hands-on skills training portion of this course will give attendees the knowledge and confidence needed to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, while teaching how to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Successful attendees will receive a certificate for Adult First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.
