What does freedom mean to you? I believe that we hold us ourselves back from doing what we are born to do. There is the saying, “You are your own worst enemy,” We tend to speak of our fears before we even know the possibilities. I think once you realize that you are and will always be okay no matter your situation, keeping your focus on what you truly want, living for the moments that make you feel most alive, and embracing the incredible sensation of joy, that to me is true and honest freedom.

What is the message you want to share with our readers through the cover photo? This photograph is about selfworth. Of course, it masters simplicity, but it’s pulling in to tell you something more. She’s bare. She is honest with herself and her body. And to add, her tattoo is a true and powerful statement. We fail to recognize that we are all worthy. I think there are many doors that open us up to freedom, and it is my opinion that self-worth is one of them.

Freedom and the power of
o g g el ttin
Freedom can take different connotations or intensities depending on the individual, their life history and their (pre)concepts. For me, freedom is inseparable from "letting go". Freedom (considering my life path) is to exert the power to liberate ourselves from moorings and to live the full experience of happiness that is destined for each one of us. I believe that every human being is destined for success, happiness and W O R D S : Claudia Antunes P H O T O G R A P H Y : Sarah Dorweiler
deep personal fulfilment. I know that because I lived the opposite, because I dived in the most deep and dark place within my being and it was in that moment that I realized that in order to get back up, to live the lightness that was destined for me, I had to let go of all the weight I’d accumulated throu-

thoughts, emotions, people, objects, blocks, patterns and beliefs that only add us pain. And then, we begin our climb, little by little, like a bird that is releasing the stones tied to its claws, ascending progressively until the height of the existence that we deserve. Up there, together with other brave souls, we will wish that all beings have the courage to do the same and take a leap to live the freedom they deserve. TO FREE FROM MOORINGS
And when we become aware of the power we have to let go of what isn’t lacking and is preventing us from flying and gliding over what we once saw as problems, life becomes a wonderful and thrilling adventure. We accumulate things throughout our lives, most of them unconsciously, which we carry more and more and push us to the bottom.
And how do we break free? First, we begin with the simple exercise of becoming aware of what weighs us down. Then we initiate the magical transformation of letting go
A N D TO B E R E A L LY H A P P Y
In my 20's, freedom meant the ability to travel around the world.
In my 30's, it meant being able to make my own decisions and to be free of the fear that kept me from demanding respect.
In my 40's, it first meant being free from financial burdens by trying to live in a tiny house.
Now, it means being free to set my schedule and be in command of my time.
All through these decades, freedom has meant the ability to live a life true to myself. It has required sacrifices and trade-offs, but they have been worth it to obtain and retain the freedom I desire. I'm sure my definition will change as my life changes, but it always will entail being my most authentic self and living life on my own terms.

Tiny
Houses How much space do you need to live in? A frequent question among people of any age nowadays, who do not want to invest in overvalued homes or sign in for long term property loans. Tiny Houses come as a new housing option.

TINY HOUSE IN THE LAKE
The concept emerged in the United States in the late 1990s, and had its biggest growth since the Country’s economic crisis in 2007. As an alternative to the high cost of properties, especially in large urban centers, the tiny house movement grows due to the need to simplify life, reduce costs, settle debts and lower the environmental footprint. With an area up to 38m2, they can be built on wheels for more freedom and tax reductions.

According to residents and enthusiasts the main benefits of living tiny are:
LOW COST
the space reduced and built efficiently makes basic bills such as water and light become 90% smaller than in a house of traditional size;
MORE FREE TIME
it can take only 30 minutes per week to clean and organize the entire house;
MORE OUTDOORS AND LOCAL COMMUNIT Y MOMENTS
it stimulates contact with its surroundings, and science has already proven that an outdoors and rich social life can relieve stress, improve memory, recover mental energy and increase creativity.

veganism there is a strong belief that we need the raw vegetables.
What made you choose to eat exclusively fruit? This was something that happened. When I started my internal journey, meditation, yoga and raw foods came to me. I felt right away that this was the direction I wanted to go, it made so much sense at that time. The Universe brings to us what we need to see and know at the perfect time. I started to eat more fruits and letting go of processed foods (I was already vegan and alcohol, coffee, tobacco never
It was in December last year that I found fruitarianism, let go completely the little cooked food I still ate. In April of this year, I let go of raw vegetables. My body naturally just asked for sweet fruits, and raw vegetables started to taste not as good to me as before, even the digestion felt different. I cannot impose something in me, it has to be a natural process. I don’t like labels or to identify with something as I am always changing and transforming. Eating fruit is what makes me feel the best and what my body asks for. When eating fruit, instead of ending a life, we are creating one. With the seed we can plant another tree. I felt that this was so beautiful. I don’t produce waste, and the fact that this is the most sustainable lifestyle for the planet, it makes sense that is the best lifestyle for me. I feel healthier, prettier, with more energy, happier, more myself. I can’t remember last time I was sick.
When and how did you become minimalist? I grew up in a family that lives to work and has a focus on material belongings. I had everything I wanted; expect what I really wanted, the presence and attention of my parents,

WHY WE SHOULD BE HAPPIER WITH LESS
Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms
and Minimalism
W O R D S : Lídia Tavares Dias
I read Anne Frank’s Diary when I was 13. I remember the questions that came to me when I finished. How was it possible that this had really happened? How was it possible that a girl of my age had gone through that entire nightmare? How do you explain hate, uncertainty, war to a child? My parents did the best they could and now that I am a mother, I know I could not do any better. Even so, the doubts persisted. Many, until today. During the Second World War, the United States held, for the most part, a neutral position. Franklin Roosevelt, the 32nd American president, made a notable speech which went against the American desire to keep the country separate from the terror that Europe was experiencing. In an address PHOTOGR APHY ROBIN SPIELMANN
to the members of the Senate, Franklin spoke of his vision of a just world and the Four Freedoms that would sustain it: the freedom of religion, the freedom from want, the freedom of speech and expression and the freedom from fear. I will not try to tell the rest of the story: we all know

And, in our little corner, in the comfort of our home, watching these injustices on the TV, we continue to close our eyes, to change the channel, to choose Facebook. Because it is more comfortable, because we convince ourselves that there is nothing we can do, because those are realities that do not touch us.
But we must never forget that seventy-seven years ago, the date of Roosevelt’s speech, millions of people had lost this security which we take for granted.

Freedom is the chance to love yourself, to allow yourself to ‘be you’, in your truest essence. It is not being afraid, nor depending on anything or anyone. It is making decisions without doubting yourself. It is opening the doors to a relationship of true love. It is spending more than one day in peace, without aggressiveness and feelings of disdain or devaluation. It is respect. It is finding yourself. It is having a peaceful mind
If these words are reverberating with you, stop and reflect. Or if you feel that someone should read this text, share it. It is necessary to free yourself…from relationships that continue to let you down, from promises that suck and from a job that frustrates you. And it is essential to search for that which makes you feel good.
“Um dia esqueceremos a mágoa, a razão pela qual chorámos e quem causou a dor. Finalmente perceberemos que o segredo de sermos livres não está na vingança, mas sim em deixar as coisas desenrolarem-se à sua maneira e ao seu próprio ritmo.
Afinal, o que importa não é o primeiro, mas o último capítulo da nossa vida, o qual mostra quão bem corremos a corrida.
Então sorria, ria, perdoe, acredite e ame de novo.

Minimalism
Whenever I moved house I nearly had 3 car loads of stuff... after this process I was left with all my belongings fitting in just two suitcases, I sold my car and travelled light to Brazil. I confess that when I became pregnant with Noá, I was shocked by the amount of things the industry make us believe that we need. But time showed me that it is exactly the opposite of what they keep telling us... more cuddles and fewer things! And like everything, it has been a process, as whenever we move house we leave many things behind and make space for the new.

Now I try and go with national brands which are at
times a little costlier yes, but in the long term they make up for it without a doubt. PHOTOGR APHY: TERESA PAMPLONA
What was the biggest lesson from your journey to Brazil? More than a journey alone at the age of 20 to the other side of the world... it was an internal journey that changed me forever. It would be impossible to choose the biggest, as even the smallest transformations brought me to where I am today. I had very remarkable experiences, I slept in the streets, I walked dozens of kms whilst fasting…but without a doubt a great lesson which I took away,

To write is to be
Free
W O R D S : Juliana Prata
SINCE I WA S A CHILD I WANTED TO BE A WRITER but I didn't know what to write about. For me, studying and writing have always meant freedom. I´ve united these two passions and created, in 2015, a study tips blog about how to write better, called Your Academic Life (www.suavidaacademica.blogspot.com). I understood that in that way I could be myself and many people identified with me. I was a writer and I had something to talk about

WRITING IS FREEDOM, IS A RELEASE. Freedom and planning never were antagonistic for me. On the other side. Planning would open more space in my routine for a better use of my time. I decided planning would mean liberty to me: the way to become a writer with a son, with housework, my job in College and many other demands.

So I have decided I would use my blog as a system to improve my writing skills. In this platform I created a personal style and understood that the more I wrote, the more I could get better at this. And then I realized that to construct a structure that organizes a way to write raise clarity and consistency when we express. We put focus on essentials and we get less distracted.
My planning for freedom goes ahead. Even though freedom means other things to different people, for me it means joy for the journey, my son´s laughter, the happiness to know I´m helping some other people, the movement I´m on, and the fact that life is happening. To write is to be free. Some ideas have to be out there.

He put down his old photo album. He repeated the same old question present in His mind: "Will this ever stop?!" The answer did not come. He left home and walked with no destination, no purpose and no peace. Old memories were now more frequent and vivid. He felt stuck. Stuck in a marriage that no longer had magic, in routine, in social conventions that did not let him breathe or be himself. Who was he anyway? He had never understood it, never been truly free. He lived his life for others and never for himself. He turned off down a busy street and felt that the weight on his shoulders lightens a little. Never before had he allowed himself to drift, to walk only because he wanted. He walked around until nightfall and only returned home when in his mind he had found a path to his pain. He entered home in silence. - Where have you been? I was very worried! - I'll leave home! - It was his short answer. He went to the closet, picked up a backpack, and started packing. - What do you mean, you're leaving?! What has happened?! - I have to leave! If I don´t, I'll blow, I'll die! He noticed the shock and hurt in his wife´s sea-green eyes.
- But why? That question that stubbornly hammered his mind broke his heart coming out of that sweet voice. - It's something I need to do. . -Don't do that, please... - If he needs to go, leave him! - It was their son Raul who spoke - if dad is not happy with us, we must free him, so that he can be ... because we love him...
He left. The days passed. Everything was still meaningless. Only one thing had changed: that sense of being stuck in life. He had cut the ties and now he was completely free to be himself. Whatever that meant. For the first time he began to understand the meaning of the word freedom. He had always heard people discussing the meaning of it, had fought for it, but had never really felt it. First he belong to his parents, then his wife, later his children ... when had he belong to his own?! Never! He felt like he never had room in his own life. He took a deep breath, realized that it had begun to drizzle, but did not care. Nor would the rain catch his will. He stood there, soaked, until he saw him. The son who had once been his, but who had been robbed of him ... by life? Fate?? Freedom?

- They told me you´re living here. Why didn’t you call us? What are you doing here? - Sit down, sit down! - He said excited, ignoring the questions. The young man closed his eyes, took a deep breath and waited, the minutes passed slowly and painfully until he turned to his son. - It's here, I'll show you! You'll see ... you'll see... He carefully removed the old photo album, perfectly cherished and preserved, despite the pitiful state of the backpack that kept it. He began to review it, gently caressing each of the photos. One by one he began to describe them. His breathing began to accelerate. He clenched his hands in an effort, trying to free himself from the secret he had carried with him for decades. "It was killing or dying ... I killed and he died ..." Raul tried to restrain his shock. - I killed a man! He came forward to me, with his gun in his hand, feeling just as scared as I was, but I fired first ... he fell right there ... it was killing or dying... I killed ... I did not die ... I was the only one who did not die ... I was the only one who came back ... I came back... Tears rolled down his face in a way he had never experienced before. - Come home with me!
- "But ... but ... I'm not happy ... I'm not free ..."
- "Dad, you already fought in a war that was not yours ... fight now for yourself ..."
He looked around the wide garden, with no walls, no strings or restrictions, but the only thing he saw was a garden without warmth, love or any kind of freedom.
Raul looked deep into his father's eyes, dirty, tired, and marked by time and pain.
- You are not alone. Look! - He took a picture of his family from his pocket. - "This is the woman who loves you, with all the pains and memories. And these are the children who have always admired you...
The man, tired and weak, did not even try to contain the sobs of compulsive tears. He hugged his son.
Raul held his father in a tight, but firm, embrace as he walked beside him, carrying the old and esteemed album that for decades had symbolized his prison. He held him now, unconcernedly. He had finally found the key to his imprisonment, the path of his freedom.

First and foremost I want to express here publically my deepest and most sincere gratitude to Fátima, not only for inviting me to share a little of my life’s philosophy in a magazine who’s theme is my ultimate “beacon”, but also for the courage that she had to bring a project of this scale to life, and the boldness to think differently – congratulations for this my friend! Let’s get back to the theme which, by coincidence, is my life’s guide – Freedom.
