How would you like to spend a weekend with friends? Meet longtime friends and make new ones at District Six Conference in Springfield IL the weekend of May 2-4. One of the most cited benefits of membership in Altrusa I hear about during visits throughout District Six is the friendships we all make and keep. Renew friendships with your fellow club members and meet other Altrusans from across Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. While you are here you’ll have an opportunity to take one of the Springfield tours our hosts have arranged. You can attend workshops and learn more about Altrusa or other relevant topics. We’ll have plenty of time to socialize at our meals. Saturday night you’ll even have an opportunity to have your photo taken with Abraham Lincoln! Our representative from the Altrusa International Board of Directors will be Bev McAlpin, International Director. Learn more about her in this Call to Conference. She is our link to the International Board so take the opportunity to meet and ask any questions. She will be addressing Club name changes, incorporating Clubs and logo use under Policy 27 during the Business meeting and at a Q&A Sunday morning. Come and get your questions answered on these important topics. Sunday morning we’ll also remember those Altrusans who have died in the past year. This memorial service is always a thoughtful reminder of those who gave many years of service to making their communities a better place through Altrusa. So, come join me, the District Six Board of Directors and Committee Chairs and Abraham Lincoln in Springfield in May!

DISTRICT SIX SERVICE PROJECT FOR 2014 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
UNDIES SUNDAY Sponsored by Altrusa International of Springfield Inc. Nearly 800 students in Springfield School District 186 have been identified as homeless, and lack a fixed, regular and adequate night time residence. These children live in shelters, residential motels, a friend or relative's home, or in a car. Springfield Altrusans have helped these children by buying bus passes, providing a "County Fair" party at a local after school program, and supplying new "undies". You, too, can help these children by participating in "Undies Sunday". Bring one or more of the following items to Conference and then attend Sunday's breakfast to learn more about programs to help these kids and witness the "undies" donation. Items must be new. Here are the items that are needed for these children:
Girl’s and boy’s underpants, t-shirts, and socks, sizes 4 - 10 Boy's socks sizes 3 - 9 Boy's medium underpants sizes 10 - 12 Boy's large underpants sizes 14 - 16 Men's underpants waist sizes 30 - 40; either "tidy whities" or boxers are great! Men's socks sizes 6 - 12 Women's socks Women's underpants sizes 5 - 9 Personal hygiene items such as deodorant, Maxi Pads, toothbrushes, and toothpaste
If you are unable to shop before Conference, cash donations will be accepted. Donations from the Springfield community will also be collected during the month of April. Let's fill the clothes lines and baskets with these donations and see what Altrusans and the Springfield community can do to help these children! It's "Undies Sunday"!
13
A Silent Auction to benefit Altrusa International Foundation, Inc. will again be held during the Conference. You are invited to participate by donating an item with a suggested value of $25 or more. Perhaps you can bring an item which represents your community or some bling to share! Any donation is appreciated. Help make this year’s Auction the best ever!! Please notify Nancy Easum if you are bringing an item so that sufficient space is available.
Conference provides a great opportunity for clubs to display and sell fundraising items or perhaps you have a great raffle item to share. Please notify Nancy Easum if your club is participating. Also indicate whether you need a full 8 foot table or half of a table.
Does your club have a great service project or fundraiser that you want to share with other clubs? Oftentimes, the best project ideas come from other clubs. Perhaps you have club newsletters or yearbooks which would be of interest to other members. Bring those posters about fundraisers or service projects, newsletters, and yearbooks to Conference! Please let Nancy Easum know if you are bringing these items so we can have space for you.

The Committee Chairs Report on pages 17 through 18. The International Strategic Plan Metrics Progress Document provided District Six last year’s data. Out of 3 9 clubs only 29 completed their Annual Club Report. As of March 31st, we need 60 new members before May 31st to reach the 2011-12 active membership count. We have 16 clubs under charter strength. The good news is the newer members are more involved in their clubs and accepting leadership positions. As of February 2013 we have two ASTRA Clubs: one in Terre Haute and the newly chartered Ball State University ASTRA Club. We had 10 clubs that submitted 16 service projects for awards. District Six reported approximately 100,205 service hours based on the 29 Annual Reports that were submitted. We would like to see this number higher by having all clubs submit this year’s Annual Club Report. All 39 clubs were visited. This year seven Governor’s Touch were issued and sent by email and also posted on the District Si x website. The quarterly In Touch, Call to Conference and two Special Editions were also emailed and posted on the website. We mailed 37 Call to Conference to Altrusans with no computer access. Financially we are doing well. The remaining International website charge of $750 has been paid. TREASURER AND COMPILIATION REPORT: The District Six Treasurer Sue Whitaker presented the Compilation Report, an annual review of the District’s Assets and Liabilities performed by Estep-Doctor and Company. It was moved for adoption of the report, and the motion passed. The Treasurer’s Report for March 31, 2013 showed a beginning balance of $43,148.76. Income in March was $45.00 and expenses $2,366.49 with an ending balance of $40,827.27. 16
The District Treasurer Sue Whitaker presented the budget. The Official Budget Proposed is on page 20 of the Conference Program. There was discussion on the amount that was being spent on club visits. It was suggested to only visit clubs once in a biennium and consider the use of electronic means to communicate with clubs. The value of club visits was also shared, especially providing the human touch and board members using visits for succession planning. It was noted that the cost is approximately $150 per visit. A motion was made for the adoption of the 2013-2014 District Six Budget with corrections. A motion was made, seconded and the budget was approved. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business. REPORT OF THE INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE: Altrusa International President Dona Garretson gave a brief report. She said to put your club visitor to work. The International Office had moved on March 31st. After being in the same building for 45-50 years and rent continually increasing it was time to move. She is currently the Interim Association Manager. The new location is One North LaSalle, Ste. 1955, Chicago, IL 60604. They have signed a 10 year lease that has a savings of $1,400 monthly. In 10 years we will not be up to previous rent. The office is smaller. They have purchased some much needed new furniture and a phone system with free long distance. They presently have 3 full time employees, 1 Assistant Manager and 1 full time with International Foundation. These are two separate entities due to legal requirements. The Foundation is a 501C that issues grants to clubs through the board. She is presently interviewing for an Administrative Assistant. Instead of hiring an Executive Officer they are changing this position to an Association Manager. This will allow for a reduction in salary.
17
She encourages Governor and Governor-Elect to work on succession planning. Our heritage is growing into the future. She encourages all clubs to use their website, complete the clubs Annual Report which parts will already be filled in and do a roster audit. Make your club visitor aware of issues. As of April 1st we have had a net loss of 294 members. The 2013 Convention will be in New Zealand – July 26th – 29th. In 2015 it will be in Kansas City at the Westin – July 16th – 20th.
