Jazz It Up…this year’s theme for the 54th International Convention in Kansas City, Missouri from July 17 – 20, 2015 certainly promises to be that and more. International Convention provides us the opportunity to learn something new, share ideas about membership retention and growth, hear from dynamic keynote speakers, and continue our journey of leadership and service. We have the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new friendships. I always come home re-energized. Helpful Information about attending International Convention: Review the International Altrusan May 2015 publication which you received in the U.S. Mail or you can obtain on the International website (see link below). Several business meetings will occur throughout the Convention. Reading the publication will help prepare you to discuss and/or vote on: candidate bios, the proposed 2015-2017 budget and proposed changes to Bylaws, Resolutions & Recommendations. If your club elected you as a Delegate or Alternate, you will want to be informed and engaged in all facets of Altrusa business. Club banners – Bring your club banner so you or a representative from your club can join the Parade of Banners on Friday, July 17th. Service Project – This year’s International Convention Literacy Service Project involves providing books for Habitat for Humanity and The Ronald McDonald House in the Greater Kansas City area. You can donate children’s books or donate money to purchase books. Second Line Parade – Saturday, July 18th. Details were not available at publication time of this newsletter. District Six Get Together – All District Six Altrusans are cordially invited to a get together on Friday evening following the Opening Banquet. Please let me know at cdevlieger@icloud.com if you are attending Convention and can join us for an evening of fellowship. More details to follow. With Altrusa Love & Best Wishes for Safe & Enjoyable Summer, Chris DeVlieger, Governor Altrusa International District Six

Altrusa News Club Activity Reports – For those of you who are waiting to complete your Club’s Activity Report, no worries. I have been informed by the International Office there are some system problems with getting the report up and running. It appears the Club Activity Report will not be available online until sometime after Convention. Clubs will have a minimum of six weeks to complete the report once it is available. The International Office will send an announcement with further details. Professional Photographs from the 2015 District Conference – We are slowly making progress on providing the photographs taken by Barbara Baie at Womack Photography. Unfortunately, Barbara has experienced several deaths in her family recently and appropriately focused spending time with them. Ultimately all the photos will be available on her business website. If you should need a photo sooner rather than later, please notify Chris DeVlieger at cdevlieger@icloud.com or Heather Munro at heathernewsletter@gmail.com. Congratulations to the Altrusa club of Jefferson, IN - They applied for and received a spring grant in the amount of $1,200 from the International Foundation in recognition for their project “Love, Luggage and Literacy Project”. A total of $35,665 was distributed to 24 clubs. Through the Foundation Grants Program, the Foundation provides assistance to individuals and helps Altrusa Clubs carry out the independent programs of community service with funds for vocational assistance; graduate school assistance to international students from developing countries; literacy projects; and community service projects sponsored by local Altrusa Clubs. Grants range from $250 to $2,000, based on needs and funds available and are subject to specific selection criteria. Altrusa Clubs are limited to one grant per fiscal year (June through May). Altrusans may find the Grant Application by logging into the private side of the International Foundation website. Deadlines for both project and individual grants are as follows:
September 15th (Grants are awarded on November 30th) March 15th (Grants are awarded on May 15th)

Club Visits Club visits are an important (and fun) task of being a District Officer. The purpose of a club visit is to communicate and share news between Clubs, Districts and the International Office. In order to utilize the Officer’s visit to your full advantage, please realize the Officer is there to help you – not inspect you. Make the most of your club visit by:
Returning information on the Club Visit form to the visiting Officer in advance of the visit. (The Club Visit form will be forwarded to you by the Officer prior to the scheduled visit.) I encourage you to assess your Club’s status and let the Officer making the visit know of any special concerns or items they can prepare for in advance of their club visit. Before, during and after ask questions; put the Officer to work. That’s how we learn and grow also. Have fun!
