THANK YOU On behalf of the Colchester Lions Club, I would like to thank you for helping with the Labor Day Food Tent. This year was a truly warm experience for all that gave of their time and energy and worked in the warmest tent in recent years.
Your gift of helping in the food tent, gave the Lions an opportunity to work the parade, organizing the event and selling pop and water on the parade route to help keep folks hydrated. And thanks to Lin Stultz who has donated the ribbons for the Baking Contest, yet again this year. I am truly blessed to be a part of this club. Thanks, Kath Wyatt
Adopt-A-Classroom, 2013-14 The Edison school librarian gave me 14 new books, bought with our Altrusa donation, the other day, and Mrs. Ramos chose the 2nd Wednes day of each month at 12:45 p.m. for us to read to her First Graders. I read to them on Weds., Sept. 11th, and they were wonderful! I will bring books for the next couple of months if you wish to sign up for October 9 and November 13 at the September meeting. Please check your calendars to see if you can volunteer. THANKS! You could also borrow these books to read to Head Start!

“Just a minute with a member Each month we will feature a Macomb Altrusan - to learn a little bit more about each other! Say Hello to Miriam Satern, our Past President, our featured member of the month! Miriam –tell us a little about yourself! I came to Macomb in 1995 as a new faculty member in the Department of Physical Education, now known as the Department of Kinesiology. I am originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where my father and sister still live. I've also lived in Fort Worth, TX, Greensboro, NC, and Manhattan, KS, prior to living in Macomb. What type of work have you done in your life? professional/volunteer? I have been in higher education since graduating from high school. After graduating from undergraduate school, I have earned two advanced degrees and taught in a variety of colleges and universities around the United States. I also coached women's basketball for 7 years at Texas Wesleyan College, my first teaching position, and until recently, held the record as the holding the most wins of the women's basketball coaches. I attribute that record to coaching for 7 years, whereas my counterparts that were arguably more successful, had shorter coaching tenures at the school.
What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy shopping, gardening, playing cards, and watching TV and movies in my spare time. How did you get involved with Altrusa? I met Rosalie Severinsen through University Women (at WIU) and she invited me to attend a meeting as her guest, and I was hooked. How have you been involved with Altrusa? I have served Altrusa as Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, and most recently, as President. In addition, I have worked at every Bazaar since joining Altrusa in 1999. What do you like best about being a member of Altrusa? In some groups that I am a member, a few people tend to do the majority of the work. However, in Altrusa, every member contributes significantly to the service activities of our organization. I enjoy being a member of a club that is productive and contributes to the general well-being of our community. I also enjoy meeting people in the community that are not part of the University or church, my usual circle of friendships. Tell us one surprising thing about you! I enjoy music and theater. I've seen several professional theater productions in New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, and in Western Hall on the WIU campus!!
