The long-awaited opening of the Trans-Tasman border bubble has not only injected some much-needed positivity into the lives of regular travellers, but has also provided small business owners looking to join the Qoin community a prime opportunity to trade between the two countries.

Qoin’s merchant uptake is upwards of 35,000 and the number of wallet holders has nudged 70,000 with the success of the goods and services ‘utility’ coin set to increase further when it expands it into other countries in the foreseeable future.
New Zealand is the first market outside of Australia to offer the digital currency, and forward-thinking business owners are seeing the value in the renewed foot traffic across the ditch.
The Trans-Tasman route is considered Australia’s busiest international aviation market with passengers from New Zealand accounting for about 18% of arrivals annually. Queensland registered at least 477,000 Kiwi visitors in the year to March 2020 with its cities currently topping the list for the most sought-after destinations for Kiwi travellers since the borders came down.

Charities and Community Organisations are always screaming out for help. I have been involved in many Organisations over the past 30 years, most notably Surf Life Saving, children’s soccer and most recently the Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival.
A lot of the opportunities stem from being pushed out of your comfort zone. Some roles seem like a natural fit, such as an accountant being the treasurer, but others are a little left field, such as a board member on a Music Festival when I know absolutely zero about chamber music!
Every role gives you an opportunity to learn, to grow as a person and by default, to pass on these learnings to your business. • Pushing yourself to deal with people you don’t know.
• Engaging with people within the organisation and out and learning soft skills that help you communicate with them.
• Understanding how Corporate Governance works and how this can be implemented in your own business.
• Realising you need to keep receipts for everything if you want to be reimbursed.
• Becoming empathetic with others around you and understanding that your situation can be vastly different to theirs.
• Learning when to say “No” to requests that are not appropriate to your role.
• Learning to say “Yes” to unusual requests that push you out of your comfort zone. soaking up as much information about it and the organisation as you can in a short period of time, like a sponge!
• Understanding that some have hidden agendas and learning how to not be drawn into their drama.
Ultimately, community service is a life-long education and it’s something I’ve encouraged my kids to be involved with as well. I love the boards I’m involved with and am grateful for the ongoing opportunities provided to me to continue my personal growth. So what’s stopping you? ca
