DUNGEON MASTER’S SESSION NOTES

A Letter from the Director

Welcome to She Kills Monsters! Directing this show for DramaTech has been an incredible honor, and I’m thrilled to share the world we’ve crafted with you tonight. This play is a celebration of the worlds we create to explore who we are, to connect deeply with others, and to embrace adventures that test and transform us. These worlds are places of courage, joy, and friendship, where we can push boundaries, laugh, and find the strength to be ourselves.

I am deeply grateful to the cast and crew, whose talent, dedication, and enthusiasm have brought this vision to life in ways I could never have imagined. Every rehearsal, they poured their hearts into building this world, bringing their creativity, humor, and passion to every scene. They’ve truly made this experience unforgettable, and it has been a joy to work alongside such a remarkable group. Their commitment shines in every moment of this production, and I’m incredibly proud of the story we’ve woven together.

Tonight, I hope you can fully immerse yourself in this world, feeling the energy, connection, and sense of transformation that these adventures bring. May it invite you to laugh, reflect, and perhaps discover a spark of inspiration within the journey we’ve crafted for you.

Thank you for joining us. It’s been a privilege to bring this story to life, and I hope you enjoy every moment as much as we have.

With heartfelt gratitude,

OUR LORE

About DramaTech

Deep in the realm of Georgia Tech, in the distant era of 1947, an eternal party of theatre kids was borne from nothing but a boon of $30 from the student council and the quest of overtaking the world with theatre. Its name: DramaTech.

DramaTech quickly began its unending campaign with a first performance of three one-acts at the local YMCA. Unstoppable in its progress, the theatre gained its first lands in 1952: the Crenshaw Field House. However, this house would not stand the test of time, as it would be condemned in 1959, forcing DramaTech into a nomadic era, and then reformed with a new lighting system conjured by the realm’s finest Electrical Engineering wizards in 1961. DramaTech, however, would still go through many changes.

In 1966, the party lost Mary Nell Santacroce, its party leader since 1949, to the realm of retirement. Moreover, it would eventually find a new refuge in 1967 known as the Georgia Tech Center of Performing Arts, and as the Old Church by its most affectionate patrons.

Despite, or possibly even because of these conditions of the campaign, DramaTech would eventually create new buffs that would take its quest to new heights. The first of these was the theatre’s first summer show in 1970, which was so powerful that it has remained a party staple to this day. A second was the founding of the theatre’s improv troupe in 1983, Let’s Try This!

In 1984, DramaTech welcomed a new party leader to the campaign who served in the role of “Artistic Director”: Greg Abbott. He filled his role well until his passing in 2006.

DramaTech overtook its current refuge in 1996, the Dean James E. Dull Blackbox theatre.

In 2022, the party celebrated its 75th season as the longest-running theatre campaign in the southeast, and today is unrelenting in its quest to overtake the world with theatre.
