Let’s talk about a country which is located in northern Europe ! The Denmark which is famous for its generosity with world aid. Despite being one of the smallest countries ; it gives freely to nations in need. And through their tax structure, which is inarguably one of the highest in the world (comparable to what Americans pay when they have no children and don't own homes), Denmark provides free emergency hospitalization and basic health care to all Danish citizens. And (you gotta love this!), Danes can get a college education at no cost. Denmark is one of, if not the oldest, monarchys in the world. It dates back to the Vikings.

National Anthem “Der er et yndigt land” was first performed for a large gathering of Danes in 1844, and became popular quickly with the Danish people. It was adopted later that year by the Danish government as a national anthem, but not the sole national anthem. This anthem is on equal status with Kong Christian, which is both the national and royal anthem, however “Derer et yndigt land” is heard more often in the country. The original work has 12 verses, but only the first, third, fifth, and last verses are used as the national anthem.

Traditions in Denmark • In Denmark, great attention is paid to traditions and festivals, though without great ceremony. Many Danish traditions are based around the Christian calendar, with Christmas, Easter and St. John’s Eve (at the end of June) being some of the most important and typically spent together with family. • Other important celebrations include the carnival “Fastelavn” in February, New Year and Great Prayer Day, which was established to combine several traditional holidays into one day. There are also May Day (Labour Day) and April Fools Day, where Danes tease each other with pranks and outlandish stories. In recent years, Danes have also started to embrace both Valentine´s Day and Halloween. 21

Chapter 3

France

< Tell me more France is a unique country with a lot of places worth visiting. So we’ve decided to make a list of the top three places to visit.

Number three is Mont Saint-Michel which is a really… Special city to say the least. It lies along the coast of Normandy. Normandy is known for its tidal waves, so building a city midst the ocean is definitely an interesting idea.

Number two is Loire Valley. Loire Valley is a popular tourist destination and rightfully so. Loire Valley is known for its beautiful scenery, splendid chateaux and seemingly unreal vineyards. It’s also the home to many old villages that are filled with history.

Number one is the city of love and light. Paris. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. It’s the capital of France after all. Attracting more than 45 million annually it’s the most popular place to visit in the world. Paris has some of the most well-known landmarks of the world such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Louvre.
