Presenting our French High school METIN Zara RAYEE Juliane LECOZ Camille

Description/Plan of the buildings:

Here is the big graffiti drawing covering one half of the library wall.

The B building:

LycĂŠe Jean Zay, our High school, is situated in a suburb of Paris called Aulnay-sous-Bois. It has four buildings near each other, identified by letters. The A building is specialized in languages (French, English, Spanish, German, Latin) the B one is for Sciences, and for Mathematics classes. The C building is specialized : in History, Geography, and we also have the administration building in the same place. Finally, the D building is for medical needs (nursery, therapist, equipments for disabled students). Each form has 30 students. There are 14 tenth grade classes, and many more in the whole school (eleventh and twelfth grade).

The C building The A building

The amenities: • To practice sports, we use the nearby facilities of our city like the gymnasium of Moulin Neuf (sport halls and playing fields). We also have exam rooms (wider than average classrooms), each of our classrooms has projectors/beamers and most of them have interactive white boards. Our school has; ICT rooms, science laboratories, a canteen, a library and a cafeteria. We also have many cloakrooms, study halls and a playground but not any “main” lecture hall. We don’t have any lockers, there are only a few of them and they are kept for students with medical issues. Our local Theatre”Espace Jacques Prévert” is always willing to welcome us.

One part of our gymnasium, stadium, and football field.

Our rugby/American football Field

Our most commonly used show room (/concert room)

The curriculum: • We spent 3 years in High school: the first year is called “Seconde” which means the sophomore year (tenth grade), the second one is called “Première” meaning the junior year (eleventh grade) and the third one is “Terminale” (twelfth grade), basically the senior year is were we have to pass one of the biggest and most important exam of our lives, it’s called the”Baccalauréat” (the subject depends on what our future career leans toward). Each year is divided in 3 terms /semesters: autumn term, spring term, and summer term. Next year we’ll pass one of those exams, but for the moment we have to choose in which technology course/high school diploma field/educational stream we’ll go to, there are three categories: Social economy course; Literature course; or scientific course

The organization of a school day • Everyday, our High school opens its doors at 8:30 am and closes a 6:00 pm, kept closed during period times, it re-opens every hour to allow students to leave the school whenever they want to, or when they are dismissed, and also let students who begin later in the day. To enter Jean Zay High school, you need to show your student identification card, to prove that you have the right to go in. This card is also used as a credit card in the cafeteria and in the dining area. We eat at 11am or at 12 pm depending on our working time schedule. We have two; fifteen minute breaks a day at 10:30am and at 16:00pm.

Fellow students enjoying a break in the playground

School’s bike station.

The holidays: • We literally have 5 holidays per year, we have two weeks off for The “All saints” holidays( October 18th-November 1st), The Christmas holidays (December 20th-January 3rd), The winter break( February 21st-March 6th )The Easter holidays(April 17th-May 1st ).The summer holidays lasts 2 months and a week. We also have Public/religious holidays each lasting one day.

A typical French high school staff has: -deputy heads -Teachers-A headmaster/ schoolmaster (= a principal)

We have plenty of rules here are the main ones:

(=no discrimination) -to respect each other. -to have a good attitude towards everyone. -to not wear any hat or inside the buildings, also, no religious sign. • -The phones are allowed in High school but not in the main entrance (gates) or in any of the buildings (as soon as there’s a roof over our heads).

have the pleasure to speak to you about JEAN ZAY Highschool. It’s a very good school, we have lot of freedom, lot of ssibility to learn about school like the IC ormation center) “centre d'information” in ch or the cafeteria which is nice for social link.

The different buildings There are 3 different main buildings: • The A building, which is used for languages (German, french, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Latin) • The B building is used for sciences (Physics, Mathematics, Biologie) • The C building is used for administrative purposes, and History/Geography

The sport complex

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONs !

Positive points There are many positive points in this highschool: Sports association for people who like sport. They are a lot of laboratories for working in good conditions. To my mind the food at the restoration is very good. Which is very convenient is that there a large sports facility next to the highschool: there is a skate park, basket ball area, football area, rugby area and tennis court. To finish, there are many good teachers like Mrs Demeulenaere.

Negative points There are also some negative points: In the cafetaria we can’t use our phones, we can’t use cash to buy things, we have to previously recharge our cards. There are not so much negative points, the highschool is quite nice. That’s all.
