The Inside Track by Rocky Johnson, the Maverick Region President
T
his is way off the usual subjects, but true. It's reported that a wise person once said of travel, “Take half the luggage and twice the money.” I would offer similar advice to any of you considering a future relocation. As you progress in your planned move, a number of truisms and strategies seem to evolve.
During our recent move, we perfected this unique strategy. Go up in the attic, preferably when it's very hot and locate a heavy box marked “Keep, baby stuff, awards, Grandma's good china (your choice, pick one or more).” Bring it down the wobbly folding ladder without dropping it or breaking your leg. Move it, or better yet, pay to have it moved to a rented off site storage area. When ready, same deal in reverse, move it or pay to have it moved to the new location. Carry from room to room looking for an empty spot to set it down. Ideally, put it where you can trip over it for several days before opening. When it's time to cut it open, it's best if you and your significant other do this together. That way, when you unveil the contents you can both exclaim in unison “Why the h... did we move this piece of junk?” Repeat this several times over the next few days. This is a wonderful way to test the strength of your relationship.
Congratulations to the 2006 Maverick Region PCA Elected Board
Even if you aren't planning to move for over a year - start thinning out your stuff now! It is never too early, ask me how I know. Something else that seems to inevitably occur, the closer to the actual move date, the less specific the labels on the boxes. Early on, a label might read, master closet, ten polo shirts, 4 short sleeve, yellow, white navy and tan, 6 long sleeve, red, yellow, etc. This is marked both on the top and side of the box with heavy black marker for easy identification when boxes are stacked. The night before the actual move the box is likely marked “stuff ” with crayola, lipstick, whatever. When the big day finally arrives and you are actually moving in to your new digs, another fun thing happens. As stuff rolls off the moving van, the helpful movers want to be sure to put things where you want them. Some decisions are easy, but inevitably one room becomes the “I don't know” room. “Where do you want this gizmo lady?” I don't know, just put it in the ....... There is lots more fun information I could share, but I'm saving that for my new book “Adventures in Moving,” or “How I stopped worrying and learned to love my U-Haul.” Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. February is a great start to our driving season, so I hope to see you at one of our schools or at the DE.

Maverick Minutes by Jan Mayo
T
he first board meeting of 2006 started around 7-ish (I don't have a watch) with the following folks in attendance. Pres Rocky Johnson, Secretary Jan Mayo, Treasurer Jeff Atkins, Chairpeople Brian Petri, Bill Dawson, Dennis Chamberlain, Joel Nannis, Joe McGlohen, Mike Brodigan, Lanean Hughes, Tracey Gross, Tom Snodgrass, Editor Wendy Shoffit, DE Registrar Michael Wingfield and guest Marie. The 2006 board meetings will continue to be held at Hackberry Creek Country Club. Rocky Johnson called the meeting to order with a resounding Happy New Year and that he had received a Thank You from Steve Boyd for the congratulations on his new baby boy, Matthew. Lanean Hughes commented on the Holiday Party held at the Hope Shelter and read one of the many Thank You notes she had received from the mothers and their children. Being concerned about the fires reported at Mineral Wells and the airport she learned that indeed the fires had spread around the airport but no airport buildings were affected. However the trailer park next to the entrance road to the airport was badly affected and a lot of the surrounding grass areas are now toasted. Unfortunately the old Bob Ande timing trailer was totally untouched. Lanean attended the funeral service for Gerald Horne, the Boardwalk mechanic who recently passed away due to cancer. The board and the region's heartfelt condolences go out to Boardwalk, Gerald's friends and his family. Social chair Tracey Gross corrected the Founder's Day date on the 2006 from Nov 18 to Nov 11. Discussion ensued and other corrections were made concerning DE and Club Race dates of other regions in zone 5. Wendy will monitor the printed and web calendars to hopefully keep them both updated and reported correctly in Slipstream. Tracey reported on the Holiday Party held at the Lewis home. Clara told her there were no spills on the carpets and they were thrilled to have been hosts. The New Member Party planning is in full swing. She requested $1500 for basic expenses and food and drinks. Motion made and passed. She also reminded all committee chairs they are responsible for manning their information table during the party. The Wine Tasting has 10 people paid up so far. Driving Schools chair Tom Snodgrass has had one team meeting and has a second planned for the AX/TT school events. They are keeping the same format as last year keeping the Ladies day first but will include teens in this Saturday group. This is a smaller more casual day that should give more driving time to the teens. Ladies and teens are welcome and encouraged to return for AX 101 the following day. This February 18/19 weekend event will be held at Pennington Field. TT103 and AX102 will be held March 3/4 at Mineral Wells. The schools will be $35 for on time Maverick members and $45 for non-Maverick folks. School attendees will be given a coupon for a free AX or TT which will be good for 2006. Treasurer Jeff had a question/concern about using PayPal for the schools. Wendy, Jeff and James will work out the details. Editor Wendy Shoffit said the January issue was bound today and should hit the mail in the next day or two. Holiday timings impacted getting it finished on her intended time frame. She needs some articles for Febuary issue on the Holiday Party as well as the Hope Shelter party and asked Dennis Chamberlain for ads for the next upcoming events. Email, phone and address corrections for the Board, Officers and 8
Chairs page were provided and she will update. Wendy will check with James to be sure the @mavpca.org emails auto forward is updated for the changed chairs. James and Andy Mears will be working on the Directory and questioned whether the full addresses need to be included or would just the city/state be sufficient. Space, number of pages and font size are being discussed for the next Directory. The board thinks the full address is good to have. The directory may have to increase 4 pages so the font size can be larger. Secretary Jan Mayo is working with advertiser Bobby Archer on procuring 4 loaner helmets for the Truxster. The 1995 helmets are out of date this year. Charlie Davis brought the fire extinguishers from the Truckster to Mayo Performance so they can be evaluated for recharging or replacement. Charlie is making contact with a couple of places for that service. Mark Gluck asked me to give his report in his absence that insurance for January is in hand. Autocross chair Brian Petri was next and he was going to ask about the status of the helmets and fire extinguishers so with that already covered he says that we will need to buy a tank of propane for the street sweeper guy to continue to sweep the Mineral Wells course. DE chair Bill Dawson said they are looking forward to using the new track. The new online registration is going well with lots of compliments. The DE team is very pleased with the job Michael Wingfield has done. While on the DE topic Joe McGlohen asked for up to $4500 for comer worker gear for the stations on the new course. Last month he said it could be as much as $7000 so this request passed. Happy Dennis Chamberlain (Happy Hour that is!) said that not even the holidays slowed down the 48 Happy folks showing up at Champps last month. January 19 will be the next Happy Hour at Salt Grass on MacArthur and LBJ. Membership chair Joel Nannis will not be at the New Member party because that's his mother's 90th birthday. That sounded pretty important so we'll make his excuses to the new members. DE Registrar Michael Wingfield is also happy with the way the new online registration is going. He reported that some of the run groups have already passed the number allowed for the smaller track so if the long track is unavailable the DE team will have to work out a solution. Safety chair Joe McGlohen will be at the Schools and also plans to be at the first TT and AX events. He wants to spend some time with AX Brian and TT Bryan prior to the start of the season. Treasurer Jeff Atkins has received only a few budgets back from the various chairs. Rather than embarrass those that have not turned theirs in (you know who you are) he thanked the few who have responded. He would like to prepare a full budget for 2006 so needs this information from everyone soon. Mike Brodigan still has a few advertisers contracts outstanding. Rocky asked if we increase the number of pages in Slipstream (Wendy gulped) would Mike be able to increase the advertisers to help offset some of the cost. Mike has not worked on that thought yet. Meeting adjourned and after just a few hugs and conversation I was in my car by 8:10 (remember, no watch). Remember if you are going to attend the next board meeting, Feb 7, we need your rsvp so we can reserve the appropriate room.

From The Driver’s Seat by Wendy Shoffit, Slipstream Managing Editor
I
This month’s issue was a good time to play “catch up” with some great articles that I haven’t been able to fit in before now. I hope you enjoy reading about the Staffords’ weekend adventure in Atlanta trying to win the Club Coupe. Did they win it? There’s only one way to find out...
Slipstream was printed and bound, ready for the mail house on the 3rd of the month (even after two holiday breaks). Where it’s spent the last 15 days? I honestly can’t tell you. What I can tell you, though, is that I’m on it. I’m asking questions and asking for solutions. It’s unacceptable to me to put in all this work to advertise events, but then it gets to you too late to attend. That’s one of the reasons we list in events two months in advance. So, please pay attention to the ads as you never know when the newsletter will magically appear in your mailbox. Please know that we’re doing our best to get it to you quickly and completely.
You may also be asking yourself... who is this kid and why is he in my Slipstream? Well, this so happens to be Mr. Ryan Lane Sears learning how to drive a Porsche early... his proud papa, Cody, won this treasure (the car, not the kid) at Founders’ Day. Now, that’s what I call enjoying the view from the driver’s seat - and at such a young age! People, take heed. *smile*
While you wait for the printed version to get to you, the online version is available sometimes even before the ink is dry. Oh, and did I mention that it’s in *COLOR*??!! All these great event pictures... all the event ads... beautifully presented in color for your enjoyment. So, if you get impatient like me, check it out online http://mav.pca.org and look under Newsletter. Not only will you find this month’s issue, but you’ll find all of them dating back to 2002! So, if you’re a “newbie” and want to read some history about your favorite club, that’s a great place to start.
’m sure many of you are wondering why in the heck Slipstream keeps getting to you so late. Well, to be honest with you, so am I. As I write this, it’s the 18th of January and just today I received my copy in the mail. TODAY!!!
Ryan Sears - future ALMS champion, for sure with fast daddy DNA.

his past year’s Holiday Party was an enormous success! Bob and Clara Lewis graciously opened up their beautiful home for the evening’s festivities and had everything thoughtfully planned out. Their daughter, Cindy, and two of her college-aged kids even provided shuttle service for us; how luxurious was that?
Most festive men of the night? John Lersch & Ed Mayo. asked if he could submit a receipt for his new gigantic HDTV as a “party expense,” but I told him that if that worked then Ed and I would be hosting next year! Photo by Joel Nannis
There aren’t many of us with a house large enough to accommodate 100+ people, but the Bob and Clara pulled it off. They have the perfect design that flows well and allowed everyone plenty of space. They even had a cool chiminea-type fireplace set up on their huge patio so that people could get some fresh air without freezing! Everyone had a wonderful time, and we all appreciate Bob and Clara opening up their home and hosting such a lovely evening for us.
Bob Lewis with daughter, Cindy Lewis, and granddaughter Kristen Gunaca.
We had a great turnout of folks who came and enjoyed the fun and fellowship. Each of them generously donated unopened gifts for the children at the Hope Shelter. The gifts were plentiful and made for a great party the following day at the shelter.
The fireplace kept the fronts of us very warm, indeed.

The inside joke of the evening was about how Clara and Bob decided back in April to redo their kitchen. Through the ensuing months their “project” snowballed into redecorating their entire house! Then they had the pressure of trying to get everything finished before the party. I think the final touches were done the day before the party! How’s that for timing? Of course, Bob cleverly

he “Silver Sleigh” (a beautiful Cayenne loaned by Boardwalk Porsche) headed to Mineral Wells with driver and co-pilot, Lanean and Clara, loaded with toys and goodies for the staff, women, and children at the Hope Shelter. We were met on the outskirts of Mineral Wells by more Maverick Elves, who added to the festive outing. At the NEW shelter we found anxious children awaiting the arrival of the gifts from Mavericks to give them a wonderful Christmas to remember for a long time. It was exciting for us to be in the new shelter. Although it’s not completed yet, it’s getting there. There was a beautiful Christmas tree all decorated and the staff had prepared wonderful food for us all. Jean Frick brought her violin and played the traditional Christmas carols, much to the joy of the children and adults alike. In fact one Mom asked if Jean could return at bedtime to play and put her children to sleep.

We realize with each year how blessed we are. Being able to share some of what we have with these mothers and children is a great gift. You will see a letter from one of the moms who we have helped make a difference in her life. They now have a new life and that’s what this is all about. Sharing with others and helping them start anew. Our contributions to Hope and the soon-to-open new facility shows dedication by our members and their extended families to making this a reality. Note all the great pictures and remember we will soon be asked to paint and help landscape this beautiful facility. We can’t wait. Thanks to all of you for your support of this program.

Autocross Classes Go on a Diet by Lisa Steele
A
new year means new changes. Whether we want to change our eating habits, work out more to help shed those extra holiday pounds, or to budget our money just a little better for the upcoming year, we always tell ourselves we need to do things differently to improve our lives for the New Year. Well, I am very anxious for our Autocross and Time Trial season to begin because there have been some exciting new changes made to the rules and classifications to improve the overall competition factor and to make things “just FUN!” The Rules Committee sat down several months ago and decided to make some necessary changes in the way we have been classifying or grouping cars at our events. After all, there were some of us in a class by ourselves or our only competition was our spouse (this can cause trouble at home at times). Don’t get me wrong, I love the beautiful trophies at the end of the season, but I like to feel like I have truly earned that trophy the fun, competitive way. I happen to be the Lady Representative of the group, AKA “the cheerleader” for the new changes. My job was very clear from the beginning…understand everything that was being said and be able to explain it clearly in a very simplistic, second grade teacher way. Wow, was I ever in for a shock! After Charlie Davis and James Shoffit did all their technical stuff (and I mean overthe-top, no-clue-what-they’re-doing technical stuff), I looked to Bryan Bell and Brian Petri for clarification. After I narrowed down their interpretation of the information, I simply screamed! But after all is said and done and all the enormous amounts of data were entered and the formulas were tweaked, the information that we will input about our cars is relatively very simple (really, no more screaming from me…just cheering). We will be using a new online car class calculator that does the work for you once you have entered some information about your car. This worksheet will be a web- based application that will be posted on the Maverick website. All of the changes that have been made to the Rules will be clearly explained at the Autocross schools in February and March, but the main purpose of this article is to give you some insight as to what to expect. First, the classes have been shrunk from 51 classes to 10 classes, which means that most people can expect to move down a couple of classes from where they were last year. For example, our 944S2 racecar was in class 6 last year, but once I inputted my modifications on the car class calculator, I will be in class 4 this year and if I’m not mistaken, the Shoffits will also be in class 4…see what I mean about having some competition? Second, The Ladies can choose to compete in one indexed class with all other participating ladies OR they can compete against the men within their class. Cool, huh! You’re probably wondering how the classes were con-
densed so significantly. The old rules had 3 sets of classes that included Showroom Stock (classes 1 thru 17), Ladies (classes 1 thru 17), and Everything Else (classes 1 thru 17). The new 10 classes will be a smooth progression of performance in a way that matches equivalent cars. Therefore, we now have stock and modified cars of all levels competing together. As with any changes, the Rules Committee does anticipate a few problems and will monitor the results and revise as necessary. My favorite change is how the Top Driver Male and Top Driver Female will be determined. We are going to have a down and dirty, good ol’ fashioned Runoff. Yes, a Runoff…I can’t wait! Basically, the lowest scoring 10 men and 10 ladies will qualify for the Top Driver Runoff. The club will obtain a Porsche that is not owned by any of the qualifying entrants. Then those 10 men and 10 ladies will have three timed runs on a newly designed Autocross course and the fastest man and the fastest lady of the day will be designated Top Driver. I am so EXCITED! Okay, now back to that New Year’s resolution of budgeting money better…Hoosier’s or Toyo’s ? The 2006 Rules Committee are: Brian Petri, Autocross Chair Bryan Bell, Time Trial Chair Charlie Davis, Retired Truck Driver James Shoffit, Timing Guru Lisa Steele, Scribe

Club Coupe Weekend
I
n early summer I entered the contest for the 911 Club Coupe giveaway. I had read about the contest in Panorama. On September 19th I received an overnight letter delivered by FEDEX from Young America Corporation. The letter was a congratulation letter informing me as a contest winner. There was no mention of Porsche on the letter or the envelope. I was not sure if this was junk mail or real, so I phoned the 800 number on the letter. Young America is the contest company for Porsche. They informed me I was one of the three runners-up for the 911 Anniversary Club Coupe. Wow! What a total surprise. One of three from all of the contestants. I was to learn latter that the other two winners called their local clubs to confirm whether the letter was official or not. I sent my notarized documents confirming our eligibility. On September 26th I received our flight documents and the weekend’s itinerary. As a winner I received an all expenses paid trip from Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) for a four day / three night trip, round trip airfare, hotel accommodations, rental car, $300.00 spending money and race tickets to the ALMS Petit Lemans at Road Atlanta Sept. 29 - Oct 2. The Hotel was the Grand Hyatt in Atlanta. The rental car turned out to be our personal use of a Porsche Cayenne S. Each of the other runners-up received a Cayenne S, as well.

The Club Coupe up with the other two runners-up and Jack, Lee and Tom at the Porscheplatz. This was a tented area for the weekend’s events and the display of the Anniversary 911 Club Coupe. The day was very busy. We walked the paddock area in the morning and later returned to Porscheplatz for lunch and guest speakers. In attendance were race drivers Bobby Rahal, Chip Robinson, Doc Bundy, Dick Barber, and Rob Dyson. From Porsche racing was Norbert Singer (engineer) and Uwe Brettel (PMNA President).

After lunch, the day was ours. We returned to Porscheplatz at 5:30 pm to line up for laps around Road Atlanta. There were approximately 100 other PCAers there to drive the course. We did three laps around the track. It was a lot of fun in the Cayenne. We lowered the ride height on the Cayenne. It did very well around the track. We felt as if we could have competed the day of the race! We returned to Porscheplatz for a barbecue dinner provided by J-3 Racing. J-3 is a local Porsche race team. In attendance were the team’s owner and two drivers who answered questions and talked about the team’s activities. Very informative. J-3 also gave away door prizes. We returned to the hotel about 9:00pm. Saturday morning finally arrived. That was the big day. The drawing for the Club Coupe was to be at 9:45am at the Porscheplatz. Better that it was sooner rather than later. We met the other runners-
On September 29th we arrived in Atlanta and took a cab to the Grand Hyatt. After we checked into our room we received a bottle of champagne on ice delivered from PCNA along with a welcome letter from Jack Bair, PCNA facilitator. Jack is the person who handled all the arrangements for the three runners-up and PCNA. Jack is a very competent and dedicated representative of PCNA. He left nothing undone the entire weekend. At 7pm that evening we met Jack and the other two runners-up in the hotel lobby. They were Garrett Burch from Pennsylvania and Clif Rosenberry from New York. We received a package containing the keys and race tickets for the weekend. From the hotel we all then walked a short distance to Bone's Restaurant. There we were met by Lee Newton (PCNA Marketing) and Tom and Eleanor Bobbitt. Tom is the PCA Club President. We had a wonderful evening visiting with our new friends and a very good steak dinner. Dinner was compliments of PCNA. After dinner we returned to the hotel for a night of rest. On Friday morning we drove the one hour trip to Road Atlanta where we met 20

late that evening. Sunday morning it was time to pack and return home. Our flight arrived at DFW around 1 pm. What a fantastic and fun weekend. Although I did not win the Club Coupe, I was a winner after all. The racing activities, Porsche Driving Experience, winning the trip for two, and most importantly all the fine people involved. We made many new friends from PCA and PCNA. PCNA, we cannot say enough. They took care of everything as did PCA. As the saying goes “It’s not the cars, it’s the people!” The weekend was evident of that.

up in the hotel lobby about 6 am. We drove our Cayennes' across the street to Caribou Coffee (similar to Starbucks). From there it was coffee to go. We caravaned to Road Atlanta and arrived about 7:30 am. We walked the area trying not to think about the coming event. Not possible while thinking about ownership of a new Club Coupe. That would be fantastic. The time finally arrived. Jack,Tom and Lee stood across from the three of us. They had in their possession a car key inside a special blue Club Coupe hat. Three hats and three keys. One for the lucky winner. The other keys were Jack and Lee’s 911s. I took mine from Tom. Clif from Jack. Garrett from Lee. I was elected to go first. I turned the key. Nothing. I pushed in the clutch. Nothing. That was my moment of fame. No car for me that day! Next was Clif. He turned the key. VROOM! The engine ran. That lucky dog. The car was his. Clif and his wife Andy were most excited. In attendance for the contest were Speed TV, Panorama and Excellence magazines. Upon returning our keys to Jack and Lee we asked jokingly if we could keep the keys to look for the other two 911s. Of course they said no. But Garrett and I won again. Jack and Lee arranged a complimentary two-day driving school at the Porsche Driving Experience in Alabama as our consolation prize. WOW! What a way to start the racing day. After all the contest events we were treated to a most fun 10-hour Petit Lemans race. The race started at 11:45 am and ran until about 8:30 pm. There were a lot of action and lead changes throughout the race. This was our first experience seeing night racing. The car lights and the glowing brakes make for exciting racing. We returned to the hotel

Belt Basics By William Middleton
E
ver wonder why you frequently see in tour instructions and other such information the note “bring spare belt---?” For some, one of the most overlooked items in any car are the rubber belts that drive cooling fans, alternators, air conditioning, power steering pumps, water pumps, and a host of other items needing engine power. In the case of all the air cooled Porsches, the alternator/cooling fan belt is of CRITICAL importance. Not only does this belt drive the alternator, it also is the ONLY source for engine cooling, as the air cooling fan is directly attached to the alternator shaft, and driven by the same belt. Neglecting this belt can result in a form of tragedy not easily comprehended – engine meltdown, literally! I have recently had experiences with two common problems related to the alternator/cooling belt and associated items on my 1986 930, and wanted to share them with others to hopefully prevent someone else sharing in the same grief. The first item has to do with adjusting the belt tension. As most know, Porsche does not utilize any form of idler pulley system to adjust the belt tension in these cars. The sheave (formal name for the pulley) on the alternator shaft is of the split adjustable depth type, and tension is set by adjusting the spacing between the sheave halves. The wider the gap between the adjustable side of the sheave and the fixed side (the cooling fan side), the deeper down in the groove the belt runs, and the slacker the belt. Conversely, the closer the halves are together, the higher the belt rides, and the tighter the belt is. Adjustment is fairly simple, but it does have pitfalls. The gap between the fixed side (cooling fan) and adjustable side is made by inserting spacers (washers) in between the removable half and the fan. Spacers not used between the halves to adjust spacing are placed on the alternator shaft on the outside of the adjustable sheave and are CRITICAL to getting proper tension – do NOT remove or store the ‘spare’ washers from the system! The spacers placed on the outside of the adjustable half are placed over the keyed fan hub, and under a special dished washer and shaft nut that holds it all together. The pitfall comes about when placing the spacers on the outside of the pulley. The fixed (fan) side is a keyed assembly, with a matching keyhole in the adjustable half, so that they both turn together. It is possible to not get the washers seated properly on the keyed portion of the shaft, and complete the assembly not knowing the problem is there. The result is pretty bad news. The adjustable side, not being under proper and even tension due to the offset spacers, will cause the belt to try to turn the adjustable side separate of the fan, and cause the keyhole on the adjustable side to ‘dig’ into the soft metal of the key on the fan, ruining it and requiring replacement. It is ESSENTIAL when placing the washers on the outside of the adjustable sheave to make sure they are fully seated around the keyed shaft to avoid this damage. Using a small mirror, it is possible to check to make sure the spacers are fully underneath the cup washer and uniformly centered BEFORE you tighten the alternator shaft nut down! If the spacers appear off centered, remove the nut and cup washer, realign the washers, and reinstall the cup washer and nut. The second problem has to do with the alternator mounting 22
ring and fan shroud assembly. This assembly serves two purposes – it is the fan’s intake duct, and also supports the alternator and carries all the tension and loads developed by the drive belt. The problem is the metal used to make this assembly. It is a lightweight, very porous, aluminum alloy of some type. As such, it has little flexibility and strength and is prone to cracking. The alternator support ring at the center of this casting is carried by four struts that also serve as vanes to direct air flow across the motor from the fan. Because the alternator support ring carries the alternator at its rear relative to the place where belt tension is imposed, there is significant pressure presented to the support vanes that carry the alternator support ring. Over time, the bottom vane (which receives the most tension from the belt) will crack, fail, and eventually allow the fan to come into contact with the outer ring. The resulting noise (and damage) are without earthly equal. Just replace the damaged part, you say – but oh, trembling checkbook! This seemingly small and unsophisticated metal casting will shoot holes in all but the tattered remnants of a cool $1G! OK, so repair it – again, thwarted by the above mentioned metallurgy. This alloy, while being very light and at the same time fairly strong, is very porous – and holds dirt, grime, oils, and as such is not cleanable to a degree allowing for welding. It also is not strong enough to allow for drilling/tapping/bolting, and cracks instead of bends. Finding good used parts is an option, as I was fortunate enough to do, but the best option is to keep track of belt tension and DO NOT over tense the belt! As a reminder of how much the metals in this whole system expand, check your belt tension dead cold, then drive the car until it’s fully heated up good – and check it again. You will be amazed at how much this belt tightens just due to metals expansion. This is one time when a little bit more tension is NOT a good idea! If you are in doubt about how to properly set the belt tension, or properly assemble the ‘stack’ of spacers, adjustable pulley half, outside spacers and other parts used to make the adjustment, seek sound assistance from a good Porsche mechanic – the cost of doing it wrong is much worse than the little investment in having someone show you how to do it right, or do it right for you.

Happy Hour at Champps by Dennis Chamberlain
New members Alex and Cindy Tayem came in from Rockwall in their new black 2006 911S. Roger and Judy Tollefson have been members for a little over a year, but this was their first happy hour.
Roger piloted his 1992 968 all the way from Argyle. Mark Jones and Donson Brooks were also attending their first happy hour. For our February 16th happy hour we’re trying a new place – Uncle Julio’s at Dallas Parkway at Keller Springs. Hope to see you there!

don’t know where everybody came from. We were surprised to have almost 50 attendees at the December 15 happy hour at Champp’s Americana Grill in Addison. We’d had our fabulous Christmas party just a week before at Bob and Clara Lewis’ house, and Christmas was just ten days away, but our club was ready to “party on” and I was powerless to stop it. Part of the attraction was Champp’s menu, which is tremendously diverse.
