This year’s theme was #EmbraceEquity, which recognises that supporting women doesn’t stop at equal opportunities, but equity to empower those coming from different circumstances.
IWD 2023 Zoom celebration
Kristina Lambkin, Corporate Responsibility and TEC Program Leader, hosted a region-wide webinar celebrating five years of Cummins Power Women operating globally.
Sisters of Mary School – Cummins Philippines
In total, 422 employees tuned into the webinar from 10 locations – Cairns, Carole Park, Korea, Mackay, Malaysia, Mt Isa, Papua New Guinea, Scoresby, Toowoomba and Townsville. Attendees were joined by guest speakers from Cummins’ community partners who shared results achieved though their partnerships.
At the end, leaders within the region and the community partners shared their aspirations for gender equality in the future.
Happy Boxes – Carole Park and Toowoomba
Brisbane and Toowoomba employees joined forces to donate toiletries and beauty products to Happy Boxes, an organisation that empowers women by breaking down barriers to accessing basic needs.
On IWD a team packaged donated goods into 31 bags that were sent to their nominated community, Fregon Anangu School in South Australia.
On March 17, the Women’s Empowerment Resource Group (WERG) and Philippines CIT invited students from Sisters of Mary School to celebrate IWD at the branch.
Jowell de Asis, Project Manager – Corporate Responsibility, spoke on common prejudices against women and emphasised women’s capabilities and their importance in society. That was followed by a think-and-share activity that encouraged the students to reflect on biases they may have on gender, social and economic status, race, ethnicity, people with disabilities and faith.
Afterwards, the students were given an overview of the workshop and Cummins’ products and services, led by Antonny Calupig, Workshop Manager, and Anna Liza Caronan, WERG leader, to demonstrate Cummins commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Round table – Cummins Korea
The Korean Women’s Empowerment Network celebrated IWD with Julia Utan, Director of Customer Support and Business Transformation, and Travis Lloyd, Director of Aftermarket.
Julia shared her career journey, experiences of taking on challenges, and her aspiration to advance women’s rights and equality in the workforce. She inspired and encouraged female employees to be bold and try to move out of their comfort zones. At the end of the session, everyone gathered for a group photo to emphasise the 2023 IWD theme – #EmbraceEquity.
