La crisi è per tutti?

Si dice: la crisi mette tutti in difficoltà, senza guardare in faccia a nessuno. In realtà non è così: se si analizzano, com’è stato fatto, i vari mercati nei momenti di recessione generale, si scopre che i settori che, paradossalmente, meno risentono della crisi, sono quelli del lusso.

Una giovane ricercatrice, Antonella Lattanzio, ha analizzato i fattori che hanno consentito ad alcuni gruppi aziendali, com’è il caso del colosso LVMH (Louis Vitton Moet Hennessy) di superare e prosperare anche durante gli anni dell’attuale crisi economica.

I punti essenziali messi in atto dal Group Managing Director di LVMH, Toni Belloni, indicano che è necessario: - Investire anche in periodi di crisi - Fare leva sull’imponente potenziale dei mercati emergenti - Produrre beni di qualità eccellente e dal design accattivante e innovativo - Favorire la creatività e la crescita dei talenti e ridurre il time to market rispetto ai concorrenti, avvalendosi anche di centri di ricerca spesso sviluppati internamente.

- Non rinunciare mai alla crescita, realizzata anche investendo in brand piccoli ma con un grande potenziale in termini di crescita e profittabilità.

- Promuovere lo sviluppo di una forte cultura aziendale per favorire la diversificazione, la dinamicità, il rapido adattamento ai cambiamenti nell’ambiente esterno e nelle preferenze dei consumatori, poiché la condivisione delle conoscenze garantiscono il Miglioramento Continuo.

- Acquisire legittimazione e migliorare la percezione esterna dell’azienda, impegnandosi attivamente nelle politiche di responsabilità sociale d’impresa.

Da una delle rarissime interviste rilasciate da Toni Belloni si è appreso che una grande fonte d’ispirazione per queste strategie è tratta dall’abitudine praticata dal patron del Gruppo, Bernard Arnault: trascorrere il 90% del tempo nei negozi, in giro per il mondo. Il mercato, pare, si scopre e si cura così.

IS EVERYONE AFFECTED

BY THE CRISIS? Everyone spouts: the crisis is hard on everyone, with no regard for anyone or anything. In truth that’s not really so: if, as was done, the various markets are analyzed at the time of general recession, it becomes clear that the sectors which, paradoxically, suffer less from the crisis, are those dedicated to luxury.

A young researcher, Antonella Lattanzio, analyzed the factors that enabled certain groups, as is the case of gigantic LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), to overcome and even to prosper during this current economic crisis.

The essential points implemented by Toni Belloni, Group Managing Director of LVMH, indicate that one must: - Invest, also during a crisis.

- Exploit the impressive potential of developing markets.

- Produce excellent quality goods with captivating and innovative designs.

- Facilitate creativity and the growth of talent and reduce the time to market with respect to competitors, also availing oneself of research centers often developed internally.

- Never give up on growth, realized also by investing in small brands but which have great potential in terms of growth and profitability.

- Promote the development of a strong company culture to facilitate diversification, dynamism, a rapid adaptation to changes in the external environment and in consumer preferences, since sharing the consequences guarantees Continued Improvement.

- Acquire legitimateness and improve the external perception of the company, with an active commitment in the company’s social responsibility policies.

From one of the rare interviews granted by Toni Belloni, it was clear that one of the most important sources of inspiration for these strategies was taken from the personal habits of the patron of the Group, Bernard Arnault: he spends 90% of his time in stores, all over the world. The market, it seems, is thus discovered and nurtured.

Il Fashion & Luxury mantiene una forte attrattività da parte degli investitori strategici e finanziari, con oltre 18 transazioni realizzate nel 1° trimestre 2015 a livello mondiale. E l’Italia è il paese di maggior interesse per l’M&A a livello globale. Questi i punti salienti emersi nel 2º convegno organizzato da EY IL FASHION ITALIANO NEL MONDO, in collaborazione con il Gruppo Azimut. Ad aprire i lavori Donato Iacovone, Amministratore Delegato EY Italia, Giancarlo Maestrini, Head of Azimut Global Counseling, e Dante Valobra, Partner EY responsabile Fashion and Luxury.

Oggi le imprese del settore, e in particolare le PMI Italiane, possono raggiungere facilmente clienti geograficamente distanti sfruttando le opportunità offerte dall’e-commerce e dal digitale.

Mercati come la Cina e gli Stati Uniti, grazie al loro ordine di grandezza più ampio e alla loro costante domanda di prodotti italiani, presentano enormi potenzialità. MADE IN ITALY CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS IN FLORENCE Ernst & Young called together in Florence entrepreneurs and operators from the fashion sector. Fashion & Luxury maintains a strong attraction on the part of strategic and financial investors, with more othan 18 transactions realized in the first quarter 2015 on a global basis. And Italy is the country that sparks the most interest for M&A on a global basis. These salient points came to the fore in the 2nd convention organized

by EY ITALIAN FASHION IN THE WORLD, in collaboration with the Azimut Group. Donato Iacovone, General ManageEY Italia, Giancarlo Maestrini, Head of Azimut Global Counseling, and Dante Valobra, Partner EY in charge of Fashion and Luxury, opened the works.

Today the businesses in this sector, and in particular the smalland medium-sized Italian businesses, can easily reach geographically distant clients, exploiting the opportunities offered by e- and digital commerce.

Markets such as China and the United States, thanks to their size and their steady demand for Italian goods, offer enormous potential. Amongst the many important speakers who took part in the debate were Sofia Ciucchi for Salvatore Ferragamo; Brunello Cucinelli; Antonio De Matteis for Kiton.

10 CANDELINE PER LA FESTA DEL CINEMA DI ROMA Con un’affollata conferenza stampa il Direttore Artistico, Antonio Monda e il Presidente Piera Detassis, hanno annunciato le molte novità della decima edizione.

Innanzitutto si ribadisce fortemente lo spirito con cui è nata questa manifestazione: una Festa del Cinema che vuole coinvolgere tutta la città. Dall’Auditorium alle sale cinematografiche della periferia un Red carpet ideale attraverserà la Capitale dal 16 al 24 Ottobre. Nessun dualismo con Venezia, semplicemente un evento diverso e assolutamente complementare.

Tanti gli attori e attrici attesi. Tra i nomi già fatti quello di Paolo Sorrentino - il regista, premio Oscar presenterà un suo inedito. Varie retrospettive interessanti fra cui quella dedicata a Pier Paolo Pasolini a cura di Sesti e Cerami. Una serata evento con l’Archistar Renzo Piano e i parallelismi fra architettura e cinema. La serata dedicata alla comicità ospiterà un atteso duetto fra Carlo Verdone e Paola Cortellesi.

Uno solo il premio, quello del pubblico. Nessuna giuria tecnica. Circa 35 i film proposti divisi per tre fasce. Resta solo la sezione Alice nella Città curata come sempre da Gianluca Giannelli e Fulvia Bettini. Parole d’ordine: qualità, discontinuità e varietà.

Ma queste solo le prime anticipazioni, nel corso dell’estate e fino a ridosso della kermesse vi aggiorneremo sulle continue novità. Stay tuned!

TEN YEARS OF ROME During a crowded press conference, Artistic Director Antonio Monda and President Piera Detassis announced the many innovations in store for the 10th edition.

First of all, emphasis was given to the spirit with which this event began: a Festival of Cinema that wants to involve the entire city.

From the Auditorium to movie theaters on the outskirts of the city, a virtual red carpet that crosses the city from October 16th to the 24th. No dualism with Venice, simply a different and absolutely complementary event.

Many stars are expected. Among the names already cited is Paolo Sorrentino the Oscar-winning director will present a new work. Various interesting retrospectives including one dedicated to Pier Paolo Pasolini prepared by Sesti and Cerami. An evening event with star architect Renzo Piano and the parallelisms between architecture and cinema. The evening dedicated to comedy with a much-awaited duet between Carlo Verdone and Paola Cortellesi.

Just one award, that from the public. No technical juries. Approximately 35 films divided in three categories. The section Alice in the City remains, prepared as usual by Gianluca Giannelli and Fulvia Bettini. Password: quality, discontinuity and variety.

But these are just the first hints, during the course of the summer and near the event itself we’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned!

ELEGANZE SOFISTICATE Tra il design moderno e i marmi antichi di PALAZZO MONTEMARTINI di Roma gli scatti del nuovo servizio fotografico che ha avuto come protagonisti due artisti affascinanti, Stefania Rocca e Vincenzo Amato. Ripercorriamo a grandi linee i loro percorsi di successo.

STEFANIA ROCCA da Torino si sposta a Roma per frequentare i corsi di recitazione di Beatrice Bracco e poi il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Poi New York dove frequenta l’Actor’s Studio. Il successo cinematografico arriva nel 1997 quando Salvatores la sceglie per Nirvana. Nel 1999 recita nel film Il talento di Mr. Ripley. Il 2002 la vede con Fabio Volo in Casomai di D’Alatri. Nel 2004 viene diretta da Carlo Verdone in L’amore è eterno finché dura. Nel 2005 è Emilia nel film La bestia nel cuore di Cristina Comencini per cui riceve la nomination come miglior attrice non protagonista ai David di Donatello. Negli anni, alterna cinema e televisione. Dirige a L’Aquila il corto L’Abbraccio per il progetto legato alle scuole “l’Italia del futuro” sempre per Action Aid. Il 2015 la vede protagonista in televisione con la terza stagione di Una grande famiglia. Da luglio sarà a teatro in Il testamento di Arthur Schnitzler.

VINCENZO AMATO, attore e scultore che dalla sua Palermo si sposta a Roma per gli studi. All’età di 27 anni si trasferisce negli Stati Uniti. E nel 1997 inizia il suo sodalizio con Crialese recitando in Once We Were Strangers (con cui vince un premio al Festival di Bruxelles), primo film del regista siciliano. L’altra sua attività è quella di scultore, in particolare ama lavorare il ferro. Nel 2002 recita in Respiro di Emanuele Crialese che vince il Grand Prix Semaine de la Critique al Festival di Cannes. Nel 2007 ottiene una nomination ai David di Donatello per il miglior attore protagonista grazie alla sua interpretazione in Nuovo Mondo.

Viene diretto da Valerio Jalongo in La scuola è finita nel 2010 e in Le cose che restano di Tavarelli. Nel 2011 Liliana Cavani lo vuole come protagonista della fiction Einstein.

Nel frattempo negli Stati Uniti ha lavorato in diverse serie tv di grandissimo successo e qualità: Elementary, Gossip girl, Damages, Boardwalk Empire. Nel 2014 è a Cannes a presentare Più buio di mezzanotte di Sebastiano Riso alla Semaine de la Critique e nello stesso anno esce il film Vinodentro di Ferdinando Vicentini Orgnani. Sempre nel 2014 gira per la tv La Catturandi per la regia di Fabrizio Costa che andrà in onda in autunno. Il 2015 lo vede sul grande schermo in Unbroken, secondo film diretto da Angelina Jolie in cui interpreta il padre del protagonista Luis Zamperini e attualmente è impegnato nelle riprese di Abbraccialo per me a fianco di Stefania Rocca per la regia di Vittorio Sindoni.

SOPHISTICATED ELEGANCE Between the modern and ancient marble of PALAZZO MONTEMARTINI in Rome the new Luxury files photo shoot which had as its protagonists two fascinating artists, Stefania Rocca and Vincenzo Amato. We retrace in outline their paths to success.

STEFANIA ROCCA moves from Turin to Rome to attend the recitation of Beatrice Bracco and then Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Then New York where she attended the Actor’s Studio.

The success came in 1997 when Salvatores chose her for Nirvana.

In 1999 she starred in Talented Mr. Ripley. 2002 sees her with Fabio Volo in Casomai by Alessandro D’Alatri. In 2004 she is directed by Carlo Verdone in L’amore è eterno finché dura. In 2005 she is Emilia in La bestia nel cuore by Cristina Comencini and she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the David of Donatello.

Over the years, alternating cinema and television. She heads to L’Aquila for the short movie L’abbraccio, a project related to schoo “Italy of the future” for Action Aid. 2015 starring in television with the third season of Una grande famiglia. From July it will be at the theater in Il testamento of Arthur Schnitzler .

VINCENZO AMATO actor and sculptor from his Palermo moves to Rome to study. At age 27 he moved to the United States. The other activity is that of a sculptor, especially likes to work the iron. In 2002 he reads in Respiro by Emanuele Crialese who won the Grand Prix Semaine de la Critique at Cannes. It is directed by Valerio Jalongo in School’s Out in 2010 and in Le cose che restano of Tavarelli. In 2011 Liliana Cavani wants to star in drama Einstein.

In the meantime the United States has worked in several TV series of great success and quality: Elementary, Gossip Girl, Damages, Boardwalk Empire. UN EVENTO GLAMOUR E GOURMET In occasione dello scorso numero di LUXURY FILES MAGAZINE, Moda, Glamour e Gourmet si sono incontrati nel segno del Made in Italy sulla terrazza del prestigioso Hotel Eden.

Party di lusso e stile, come da linea editoriale perseguita da anni, quello svoltosi nel prestigioso giardino d’inverno dell’hotel Eden di Roma - ultimo gioiello entrato a far parte della Dorchester Collection - organizzato da Luxury files magazine.

A fare gli onori di casa, insieme alla marketing manager della struttura Laura Fiore, c’erano il direttore editoriale Mara Cella e tutta la redazione del magazine bilingue che, in una cornice chic e gourmet accompagnata dalle creazioni dello Chef stellato Fabio Ciervo, hanno accolto i numerosi e selezionatissimi ospiti della moda e del cinema davanti ad uno dei migliori panorami che si possano godere dai tetti della Capitale, nel cuore della Dolce Vita.

Tra gli ospiti, oltre ai tanti attori ed attrici protagonisti dei recenti shooting della rivista, anche personaggi dello spettacolo ma anche noti imprenditori, manager, stilisti ed esponenti istituzionali legati ad Ambasciate e realtà internazionali. Tutti gli invitati sono stati accompagnati in un percorso “assoluto” per il palato costruito su eccellenze eno-gastronomiche come il Caviale Calvisius, orgoglio italiano esportato in tutto il mondo. Lo chef ha reinterpretato il famoso Lingotto di Caviale Calvisius o i sublimi ravioli di caviale e storione al profumo di limone. Fra l’altro durante la serata il coinvolgente Luigi Mondini, direttore vendite di Calvisius, con la sua passione ha catturato gli ospiti e raccontato loro le peculiarità dell’oro nero di Calvisano.

Il tutto è stato accompagnato dai vini della Tenuta Vitalonga, espressione di una tradizione familiare che dagli anni ‘50 ha reso noti e apprezzati a livello internazionale i vini Umbri IGT. Oggi la famiglia Maravalle, alla terza generazione di viticoltori, con i suoi vini come il Phiculle, l’Elcione e il Terra di confine, ha ottenuto numerosi premi e riconoscimenti, esportandoli in oltre 18 paesi del mondo.

E dulcis in fundo il rinomato Cioccolato Bodrato apprezzato in degustazione attraverso vere e proprie opere d’arte realizzate con antiche ricette comprendenti le più pregiate varietà di cacao al mondo ed eccellenze del Piemonte come le nocciole delle Langhe, le ciliegie di Garbagna - presidio Slow Food - o la menta di Pancalieri: un connubio di frutta e spezie esaltate da inediti abbinamenti al pregiato cioccolato, ci spiega l’appassionato AD Fabio Bergaglio che ha rilevato la storica cioccolateria Bodrato circa 15 anni fa e da allora ha portato nel terzo millennio questo antico cioccolato rinnovando il packaging particolarmente fashion ed accattivante, puntando su un approccio più giovane ed innovativo.

A GLAMOUR AND GOURMET PARTY On the occasion of the previous issue of LUXURY FILES MAGAZINE, Glamour and Fashion Gourmet came together under the banner of Made in Italy on the terrace of the prestigious Hotel Eden.

Party of luxury and style, according to the editorial line pursued for years, the one held in the prestigious garden of Eden Rome - last jewel became a member of the Dorchester Collection during the spring issue of the Luxury files magazine.

To do the honors, along with the marketing manager of the structure Laura Fiore, were the editorial director Mara Cella and the entire editorial staff of the bilingual magazine, in a chic and gourmet setting accompanied by the creations of starred chef Fabio Ciervo, welcomed the numerous and selected guests of the fashion and film in front of one of the best views you can enjoy from the rooftops of the capital, in the heart of the Dolce Vita.

Among the guests, in addition to the many actors and actresses protagonists of the recent shooting of the magazine, even celebrities but also well-known entrepreneurs, designers and members related to institutional realities and international Embassies. All the guests were taken on a “absolute” journey for the palate built on excellent food and wine as the Caviar Calvisius, Italian pride worldwide exported. The chef has reinterpreted the famous Lingotto Calvisius or sublime ravioli with caviar, sturgeon and lemon fragrance.

All this was accompanied by the wines of Tenuta Vitalonga, expression of a family tradition since 50’s that has made wines of Umbria IGT well known and internationally acclaimed. Now the family Maravalle family , the third generation of winemakers, with its wines like Phiculle, the Elcione and the Terra di Confine, received numerous awards exporting to over 18 countries worldwide.

And last but not least the famous Chocolate Bodrato, enjoyed tasting through real works of art made with ancient recipes incorporating the most precious varieties of cocoa in the world and the excellence of Piedmont like Langhe hazelnuts, cherries Garbagna - Slow Food - or mint of Pancalieri:

L’IMPORTANZA DI GESTIRE L’EFFETTO

MADE IN ITALY L’ipercompetizione globale, l’allargamento geografico, l’ingresso di nuovi paesi sulla scena dell’economia mondiale, l’aumento del potere negoziale dei consumatori stanno imponendo sempre nuove sfide alle imprese del Made in Italy intenzionate a rafforzare la propria presenza sui mercati esteri. Come ben noto, le imprese italiane, per la gran parte costituite da un ampio universo di PMI, godono di un vantaggio comparato di immagine senza eguali che si traduce in una piena accettazione dei prodotti per il solo fatto di essere “creazioni italiane”. Ebbene, se i grandi del Made in Italy riescono a manovrare con sapienza l’effetto Made in Italy al punto da diventare loro stessi degli artefici dell’immagine Paese, le PMI sembrano (nella gran parte dei casi), non avere piena consapevolezza delle ulteriori possibilità che un’efficace politica di promozione del “fatto in Italia” possa creare soprattutto a livello internazionale. E questo diventa ancor più determinante oggi a causa della crisi economico-finanziaria che ha contratto e depresso il sistema di consumo di molti paesi occidentali, rendendo obbligata la scelta di operare con l’estero. I processi di internazionalizzazione in atto, quindi, richiedono nuove figure di presidio e sviluppo, oltre che sui mercati, anche sui clienti. Determinanti per ricoprire questi ruoli sono la conoscenza delle lingue, la cultura internazionale, la predisposizione alla mobilità e l’approccio tecnologico. Risorse queste che non devono essere priorità esclusive dei top brands, ma devono caratterizzare anche la crescita delle piccole e medie imprese, spesso espressione dell’eccellenza italiana.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MANAGING THE “MADE IN ITALY” EFFECT Global hyper-competition, geographic extensions, the entrance of new countries on the scene of world economics, the increased negotiating power of consumers are all posing new challenges for Italian businesses desirous of strengthening their presence in foreign markets. As is well-known, the majority of Italian businesses found in the wide universe of small and medium businesses benefit from a comparative advantage of an unequaled image which is translated into full acceptance of products for the mere fact of being “Italian creations”. Well then, if the big names of Made in Italy are able to knowingly maneuver the Made in Italy effect to the point that they themselves are the creators of the image of the country, in the majority of cases the small and medium businesses do not seem to be fully aware of the ulterior possibilities that an effective “made in Italy” promotion policy can create especially on an international level. And this is even more significant today due to the economic-financial crisis that contracted and depressed the consumption system in many Western countries, making the choice to operate abroad obligatory. The internationalization processes underway, consequently, call for new figures of settlement and development, for markets and with clients. Knowledge of languages, an international culture, the predisposition for mobility and a technological approach are fundamental for covering these roles. These resources must not be the exclusive priorities of the top brands but must also distinguish growth for the small and medium businesses, often an expression of Italian excellence.

In tal senso, la formazione di una nuova generazione di manager del Made in Italy, capace di proseguire lo straordinario lavoro intrapreso da un’avanguardia di geniali imprenditori, è una risposta alle attuali esigenze dell’ampio tessuto di pmi. Questo processo può essere assolto soltanto attraverso il dialogo e la collaborazione tra imprese, università e istituzioni. Ed è in questa prospettiva che si inserisce l’Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma, un Ateneo con una grande vocazione: essere una comunità universitaria interculturale. La lingua, la storia, l’economia e la cultura di mondi sempre più interconnessi sono il leitmotiv delle attività didattiche e di ricerca. A conferma di ciò è stato istituito, all’interno del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Economia e Management Internazionale, il curriculum in “Beni di Lusso, Made in Italy e Mercati Emergenti”, con insegnamenti in inglese e in italiano, rivolto ad allievi italiani e internazionali. Le competenze acquisite durante questo percorso di studi favoriscono la formazione di manager capaci di operare in un’economia globale, interculturale e complessa, riuscendo a valorizzare gli asset, le qualità e il capitale reputazionale del Made in Italy sui mercati internazionali.

In this sense, the formation of a new generation of Made in Italy managers, capable of continuing the extraordinary work undertaken by the forerunners of gifted entrepreneurs, is a response to the current needs of a broad network of small and medium businesses. This process can only be carried out through dialogue and collaboration amongst businesses, universities and institutions. And it is in this perspective that the Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma should be considered, a university with a great vocation: to be an inter-cultural university community. The language, the history, the economics and the culture of ever-more interconnected worlds are the leitmotiv of the teaching and research activities. As confirmation, a course dedicated to ”Luxury Goods, Made in Italy and Developing Markets” has been added to the master’s degree course in Economics and International Management, with lectures in English and in Italian, aimed at Italian and international students. The knowledge and skills acquired during this course facilitate the formation of managers able to operate in a global, inter-cultural and complex economy, succeeding in valorizing assets, qualities and the reputational capital of Made in Italy on international markets.

Una carriera iniziata da giovanissima a New York, dove si trasferì con i genitori, fu notata da un agente a 11 anni e decise di tentare la carriera nel cinema. L’esordio con il film di Luc Besson Leon a fianco di Jean Reno nel 1994, le ha dato un’ampia visibilità internazionale. A quel ruolo ne seguirono molti altri: nel ‘95 ha recitato in Heat di Michael Mann, con Robert De Niro e Al Pacino, nel ‘96 è in Mars Attacks di Tim Burton, ma è con il ruolo della regina Amidala nella nuova trilogia di Star Wars che arriva il successo. Nel 2004 riceve una nomination all’Oscar per il suo ruolo in Closer. Tra i suoi successi V per Vendetta fino poi all’eccezionale Cigno Nero che le è valso un Golden Globe ed un Oscar come migliore attrice protagonista.

Ma forse più di tutto quel set le è valso l’incontro con il coreografo e ballerino francese Benjamin Millepied che ha poi sposato e da cui avuto un bellissimo bimbo, Aleph, nel 2011.

Il mio rapporto con la moda ed il lusso è normalmente un rapporto a distanza, guardo la moda e i vestiti come delle creazioni artigianali e artistiche che delle altre persone misteriose indosseranno.

Non mi preoccupo eccessivamente di quello che indosso, non amo molto fare shopping e non voglio pensare troppo a quello che ho addosso.

Eppure ogni tanto per un caso o per fortuna, mi ritrovo una bella camicia o un pantalone tagliato bene o una giacca che mi sta a pennello e improvvisamente mi sento comodo ed elegante.

Io comunque me ne infischio e continuo ad indossarli così, i vestiti hanno ognuno la loro storia e io mi ci affeziono...

Sul set era divertente cercare di recitare rendendo fluidi un insieme di fotogrammi, un gioco per permettere al fotografo di avere dei freeze - dei fermi immagine.

LORENZO BRACCIALINI A WORLD OF PASSION AND COLOR Following a fascinating tour of the company, we’d like to tell you the story of a name, a family and an Italian brand known in more than 60 countries. In 2014 they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Their headquarters is just outside Florence in the well-known leather-working district, in an eco-sustainable futuristic building, attentive to the environment and to the needs of those who work there.

Inside there’s even a zen garden amidst the offices with prototypes of the iconic models of the various brands acquired by the company, amongst hundreds of leather skins and innovative materials, a true dip in the colorful world of the brand.

It all began in 1954 and today the extraordinary and volcanic Lorenzo Braccialini, Marketing and Communications Director for the Group, takes us along the path and indicates the salient points of these successes.

Attraverso il suo percorso, ci racconta la storia di questa azienda?

Posso dirvi con una foto che sono praticamente nato in una borsa - e ci mostra davvero un’ immagine su una parete di un bimbo bellissimo che sbuca sorridente da una borsa!

In realtà dopo la laurea a Londra ho iniziato il percorso in azienda solo nel 2000. Ho una grande passione per la finanza e per la storia ma sono orgoglioso del nome che porto e ho deciso di dare continuità alla passione dei miei genitori, una forma di rispetto per il loro impegno di una vita. E poi tutto questo fa parte di ciò che ho respirato fin da piccolo, che inevitabilmente porterò sempre dentro, perciò ho deciso di impegnarmi e diffondere nel mondo questo marchio che è tutta la mia famiglia. Ancora oggi posso dirvi che mia madre Carla Braccialini, storica fondatrice, è la prima ad arrivare in azienda e l’ultima ad andar via, sempre elegantissima e mai stanca, ecco con questa energia e passione è cresciuto il brand Braccialini.

Through this path, please tell us about the history of this company.

I can tell you with a photo that I was practically born inside a handbag - and indeed he does show us a photo on a wall of a beautiful child who peeks out smiling from a handbag!

In reality after my degree in London I only started out with the company in 2000. I’m very interested in finance and history but I am proud of the name I bear and I decided to continue with the passion of my parents, a form of respect for their lifetime commitment. In addition, all of this is part of what I have lived and breathed since I was a child, that will inevitably always be a part of me, so I decided to commit myself and spread this brand which is all my family throughout the world. Even today my mother Carla Braccialini, legendary founder of the brand, is the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave in the evening, always elegant and never tired, it’s thanks to this energy and passion that the Braccialini brand has grown.

Ripercorriamo a grandi tappe l’evoluzione di questi 60 anni, come siete riusciti a diversificare senza mai dimenticare la tradizione?

Negli anni ‘50 e ‘60 la dimensione dell’azienda era molto familiare ed artigianale. Negli anni ‘70 sono iniziati i primi clienti esteri, prima gli americani poi i giapponesi e tedeschi, tant’è che alla fine degli anni ‘80 il marchio aveva una diffusione del 50% all’estero e 50% in Italia. Gli anni ‘90 sono stati di minimalismo e quindi di contrazione per noi, ma sono stati una spinta per un ripensamento di alcune strategie e dunque anni di diversificazione.

A tal proposito vantiamo la licenza di borse più storica in Italia, quella per Vivienne Westwood.

In quegli anni sono nate le prime boutiques, prima ad Ischia e poi il monomarca di Firenze. Nel 2000 siamo entrati nel Gruppo Burani e nel 2006 posso dirvi che eravamo presenti in circa 40 paesi.

Altro momento saliente è stata l’acquisizione del brand Gherardini, nel 2007, storico marchio fiorentino molto riconosciuto, più classico e con un target diverso.

Dunque negli ultimi 10 anni abbiamo cavalcato una fase di grande crescita, sono stati gli anni di logica imprenditoriale di stampo più industriale, di ulteriore internazionalizzazione e notorietà molto forte. Ci aggiriamo oggi su un fatturato di circa 70 milioni di Euro e siamo presenti in oltre 60 paesi.

A proposito di Gherardini, c’è una novità importante nelle collezioni?

Esatto, abbiamo appena presentato Mr. Gherardini. Una capsule Collection dedicata all’uomo. Al Pitti per festeggiare i 130 di Gherardini con un grande evento abbiamo lanciato la prima collezione di accessori Gherardini al maschile per un gentleman contemporaneo.

As we leap through the past 60 years, how were you able to diversify without neglecting tradition?

In the 1950’s and 1960’s, the company was quite contained within the family and artisan. The first foreign clients came in the 1970’s, first the Americans, then the Japanese and Germans, to the extent that at the end of the 1980’s the brand was sold 50% abroad and 50% in Italy. The 1990’s were distinguished by minimalism and therefore a contraction for us but there was also a push to rethink certain strategies and consequently years of diversification.

In this respect, we can boast the licensing of the most famous bag in Italy, the one for Vivienne Westwood.

The first boutiques were opened at that time, first in Ischia and then the one-brand in Florence. In 2000 we joined the Burani Group and in 2006 I can say that we were present in approximately 40 countries.

Another landmark event was the acquisition in 2007 of the Gherardini brand, a very well-known historical Florentine brand, more classic and with a different target.

As a result, in the past 10 years we’ve experienced a phase of strong growth, they were years of a more industrialstyle entrepreneurial strategy, of ulterior internationalization and significant popularity. Today we have a turnover of approximately 70 million Euro and we are present in more than 60 countries.

Talking about Gherardini, is there something new and important in the collection?

Exactly, we’ve just presented Mr. Gherardini. A capsule Collection dedicated to men. At Pitti to celebrate Gherardini’s 130th anniversary with a great event we launched the first collection of Gherardini accessories for men, for the contemporary gentleman.

E le novità continuano a quanto pare anche in ambiti inconsueti per Braccialini, possiamo parlare ormai di un Concept brand?

Assolutamente sì, l’altra novità dell’estate è infatti il lancio del primo profumo Braccialini, una fragranza che incarna il nostro mondo: molto colorata, fruttata e floreale, forte ed elegante per raccontare la donna Braccialini. Abbiamo lavorato molto tempo per arrivare a definire la fragranza e il packaging per far sì che fosse davvero distintivo e che ci rappresentasse appieno. E poi da pochi anni con Distribuzione Lusso abbiamo chiuso l’accordo per la distribuzione degli orologi Braccialini: un grande successo, è un accessorio che completa i look e il binomio bag e watch sembra piacere molto alle nostre fidelizzate clienti.

Dunque non più solo borse, ma foulard, ombrelli, caschi, orologi e profumi... di certo l’universo Braccialini è divenuto molto ampio e variegato ma la nostra passione è sempre la stessa.

And apparently there are other unexpected innovations for Braccialini too, can we talk about a Concept brand?

Absolutely yes, the other development is in fact the launch of the first Braccialini perfume, a fragrance that incarnates our world: colorful, fruity and floral, strong and elegant, the Braccialini woman. We worked a long time to define the fragrance and the packaging to ensure that it was truly distinctive and that it projected our image. And a few years ago with Distribuzione Lusso we signed an agreement for the distribution of Braccialini watches: a huge success, it’s an accessory that rounds off a look and our faithful clients seem to appreciate the combination of bag and watch.

So not just handbags but scarves, umbrellas, helmets, watches and perfumes... the Braccialini world is certainly very broad and varied but our passion remains the same.

During the grand opening we interviewed the President of Shiseido Italia, Alberto Noè, who is definitely not lacking in tenacity and determination.

Since he first arrived in Shiseido he started out on a very intense plan, strengthening the brand and to a certain extent diverging from past strategies, which he described to us.

Ci racconta questa scelta, rappresenta per Shiseido un nuovo inizio?

Questa tappa segna un momento fondamentale per il marchio Shiseido in Italia che con questa SPA vuole mostrarsi ancora più vicino alle sue affezionatissime consumatrici e vuole mostrarsi sempre più un ‘Love Brand’ facendovi entrare sempre di più nell’universo e nei valori di bellezza Shiseido, fatto di ricerca estrema, di prodotti di alta tecnologia ma anche di antiche tecniche e rituali che ora sarà possibile provare anche in Italia, un mercato fondamentale per noi ed un ponte con l’Europa. In particolare per me è un sogno che prende vita, sento questa SPA un po’ come ‘una figlia’.

Come mai a Milano? Cosa rappresenta per voi questa città?

Non potevamo non cominciare con Milano. Per il 2015 con l’EXPO sono puntati su questa città i riflettori di tutto il mondo, è il ‘place to be’ dell’anno e poi è anche un omaggio al legame che abbiamo con Milano, sede di Shiseido Italia. Tutti i milanesi e non, come pure il vasto pubblico internazionale dell’Excelsior Hotel Gallia da ora potranno godere di questi 1000 mq di benessere Shiseido, direi unici. Tell us about this decision, does it mean a new beginning for Shiseido?

This phase marks a fundamental point for the Shiseido brand in Italy.

Through this Spa it wants to be even closer to its devoted consumers and wants to show that it is more and more a ‘Love Brand’ welcoming you with open arms into the universe and values of Shiseido beauty, made of dedicated research, high-technology products but not forgetting ancient techniques and rituals that now can be experienced also in Italy, an important market for us and a bridge with Europe.

For me in particular it’s a dream that takes shape, this Spa is a bit like “a daughter” to me.

Why Milan? What does this city represent for you?

We couldn’t not start with Milan. This year for Expo all eyes are looking at the city, it’s THE place to be and it’s also a tribute to the bond we have with Milan, head office of Shiseido Italy.

Everyone from Milan and elsewhere, as well as the vast international clientele at the Hotel Excelsior Gallia, will now be able to enjoy these 1,000 square meters, I’d say unique, of Shiseido wellness. And we’re already thinking of repeating the experience, I can safely say that we’re thinking about Rome.

Simona Caletti, National Trainer and SPA Supervisor gives us more details about the peculiarity of the treatments available in the Shiseido Spa. “We have more than 140 strict protocols and here Eastern traditions meet the West.We always start with Aroma Breathing to understand what the client prefers during the treatment: rose and bergamot, lemon and almond or Ying and Yang, all essential oils with relaxing, toning or balancing effects, we then go on to respiratory exercises to soothe heart beats and slow down brain waves. And our Deep Tension Relief today is the most requested treatment and acts on deep tensions, also caused by incorrect posture, and with the “QI” Shiseido technique we use digital pressure on positive energy vital points to unblock them. A real rebirth. Another must is to try some of the various treatments such as the Timeless Ritual which includes a neck and back massage, facial treatment and concludes with Make Up for her and a scalp massage for him. Another peculiarity: the use of Shiseido’s zen fragrance in certain treatments or the Japanese Foot Bathing, the traditional footbath or the oshibori hot towels, a real treat for body and mind”.

Il vostro legame con l’arte in genere e il Cinema in particolare è noto. Di recente avete partecipato a Taormina?

Sì, abbiamo partecipato assegnando il premio al talento nascente di Madalina Ghenea, che ha preso parte in modo audace a Youth di Paolo Sorrentino e oltre alla sua bellezza ha ironia e umiltà, qualità che apprezziamo. Ma il nostro legame con tutte le arti è costante, ora stiamo lavorando ad un progetto per il prossimo Festival di Venezia.

Cogliamo l’opportunità di questo incontro per chiederle qualche anticipazione proprio sulle novità a breve termine.

Certo, vi stupiremo ancora, stiamo lavorando alacremente per portare in Italia dal Giappone un altro pezzo del lifestyle Shiseido, sconosciuto ai più, mi riferisco alla pasticceria Shiseido, altra unicità...per ora non dico altro.

Poi in autunno avremo due grandi novità di prodotto. Da un lato Ultimune Eye con cui si festeggia anche il primo anno sul mercato di Ultimune, prodotto rivoluzionario che ha ottenuto grandi successi. Ora arriva la sua declinazione per il contorno occhi, zona delicata dove il rinnovamento cellulare è fondamentale. E poi dulcis in fundo vi anticipo che lanceremo una fragranza fortemente iconica, è il racconto di un viaggio a Parigi, di una donna misteriosa e di un fiore simbolo per Shiseido: la camelia.

Questa fragranza incarna appieno la donna Shiseido, una femminilità che non si fa notare ad ogni costo ma che non si dimentica mai.

Your bonds with art in general and movies in particular is well-known. Have you recently participated in Taormina?

Yes, we did participate and we awarded the prize for new talent to Madalina Ghenea, who played a very audacious role in Youth by Paolo Sorrentino, and who is very ironic and humble as well as beautiful, all characteristics that we appreciate. But our bond with all the arts is constant, now we’re working on a project for the forthcoming Venice Film Festival.

We’d like to take this opportunity to ask you for some hints as to your short-term projects.

Certainly, we’re full of surprises, we’re working steadily to bring another piece of Shiseido lifestyle to Italy from Japan, which many are unaware of, I’m referring to Shiseido pastries, another uniqueness...but I can’t say more for the time being.

Then in the fall we’ll introduce two important new products. On the one hand Ultimune Eye with which we celebrate the first year on the market of Ultimune, a revolutionary product which has been very successful. Now the formula is ready for eye contour, a very delicate area in which cell renewal is fundamental. And last but not least I can tell you that we will launch an iconic fragrance, it’s the tale of a trip to Paris, of a mysterious woman and a flower that is symbolic for Shiseido: the camellia.

This fragrance fully incarnates the Shiseido woman, a femininity that is not blatant but that is unforgettable.

During the recent Baselworld, Rolex presented YACHT MASTER in a new version with the case in pink gold, rubber bracelet band and ceramic bezel. This new version gives a new look to the historic model. The new Yacht Master is now available in the 40 mm diameter and in the new 37 mm size. The Oyster case is in Everose 18 Kt gold with moveable bezel equipped with a new Cerachrom disc in black ceramic, and the numbers with a shiny finish show up on the opaque base. A proposito di Golf, durante l’apertura dell’albergo - da maggio a ottobre - i golfisti sono i benvenuti con pacchetti speciali. Altra chicca da segnalare è che l’ampio parco in cui è immerso il Colonna Pevero consente di atterrare qui in elicottero o di noleggiarne uno per un’escursione o solo per godere dei panorami dall’alto: semplicemente spettacolari. Dimenticavo, i gourmandise apprezzeranno anche la ricca cantina del Colonna Pevero Hotel ma una scoperta per tutti, esperti, appassionati e neofiti è stata una visita all’innovativa Cantina Surrau (a pochi minuti dall’ hotel) che grazie alle colline granitiche della Costa Smeralda produce un eccezionale Vermentino di Gallura Docg: Sciala.

Ma ancor più suggestivo è poter visitare l’azienda, la bottaia e degustare lì le proposte delle Vigne Surrau dove l’arte, la fotografia e il design incontrano ulivi, vigneti e profumi unici.

The hotel beach is at Piccolo Pevero, delightful and calm, reachable either on foot or with a golf cart. And speaking of golf, when the hotel is open (from May to October) golfers are more than welcome with special packages.

Another gem is the large park in which the Colonna Pevero is set - helicopters can land here or they can be rented for an excursion or just to enjoy the view from the sky: simply spectacular. A continuous sense of wellness pervades but you should also try some of the special treatments at the Spa in the Comfort Zone. A suggestion for the summer? We met him at the splendid Dehors at Irene, the bistrò for one and all - international, Florentine and hotel clientele - and notwithstanding his many engagements he dutifully waited as we took out a notebook and a pen, just like in the past. And in bidding us goodbye with a warm smile, he explained that his philosophy for hotels is that it is fundamental to have feedback from each and every guest, to constantly improve. This is really luxury!

Di piscine dove fare un bagno quando il mare è agitato, a Forte dei Marmi non ce ne sono moltissime, ma quelle che ci sono fanno la differenza.

Provare per credere all’hotel Byron (5 stelle L, zona Roma Imperiale) nella zona adiacente il ristorante. Un tuffo nella panoramica vasca con scenografica cascata, e poi a tavola. A deliziare gli ospiti al ristorante del Magnolia, dove lo chef napoletano Cristoforo Trapani, reinventa al meglio la cucina a km zero, con qualche contaminazione della sua terra.

TASTE There aren’t many pools available in Forte dei Marmi when the sea is too rough to swim in, but the ones that are available make all the difference.

Those in doubt should try the Hotel Byron (5-stars L, Roma Imperiale neighborhood, www.hotelbyron.net), in the area adjacent to the restaurant. A dip in the panoramic pool with its arresting waterfall, and then for a meal. Delighting guests in the Magnolia restaurant is Neapolitan chef Cristoforo Trapani, who expertly reinvents zero kilometer cuisine, with some contaminations from his territory.
