I have a dream Delle tante persone che conosciamo nella vita alcune rimangono nella nostra mente solo per poco tempo, poi diventano sbiaditi come i vecchi dagherrotipi e svaniscono.

Altre rimangono per sempre. Forse dipende dal sistema di archiviazione mentale: quelli che non ci interessano vengono archiviati nella memoria labile, quelli che ci colpiscono vanno a finire nella memoria profonda, la Long Term Memory. In modo un po’ più poetico, possiamo pensare che transitino dalla mente al cuore.

In questo processo svolge un ruolo determinante la presenza, nella nostra mente, delle “figure assenti”, la somma cioè di quanti, tra tutti quelli che abbiamo conosciuto, hanno lasciato un segno positivo o negativo: così, quando incontriamo una persona per la prima volta, queste figure assenti (che affollano, senza che ce ne rendiamo conto, la nostra mente) ci fanno apparire il nostro interlocutore simpatico o antipatico, ostile o positivo, gradevole o sgradevole, a seconda di quanto questi ci ricordi, inconsapevolmente, personaggi a noi cari oppure personaggi sgraditi. Basta un volto, una frase, un tono di voce: se rivedo il faccione buono di Louis Armstrong che canta un evergreen o se risento quel meraviglioso “I have a dream” di Martin Luther King, quelle figure assenti sono in grado di influenzare positivamente persone che si ispirano a loro.

Ma a proposito di “figure assenti”, ahimè, sempre molto presenti, m’imbatto in continuazione in persone che chiedono il cambiamento, si riempiono la bocca di necessità d’innovazione, chiedono che tutto sia riformato e poi, in realtà, si attaccano ai loro privilegi come delle patelle allo scoglio, impedendo qualunque riforma migliorativa.

La resistenza al cambiamento è un tema perenne e irrisolvibile.

I have a dream, anch’io ho un sogno: che un giorno possa incontrare una persona coerente che ammetta di non voler cambiare niente, che confessi di odiare l’innovazione e che affermi di voler vivere nel passato, attaccato alle sue piccole cose. Così posso cambiare io una cosa, facilmente: il lato della strada sulla quale cammina, per non incontrarla più.

I HAVE A DREAM Of the many persons that we meet in our lives, some of them remain in our thoughts for just a short time and then they fade, like old photographs, and then disappear.

Others remain forever. Perhaps it depends on a mental filing system: those we’re not interested in are filed in the weak memory, those that strike us wind up in the deep-seated memory, our Long Term Memory. A bit more poetically, we can say that they transit from the mind to the heart.

An important role is played in this process by the presence in our mind of “absent figures”, that is the sum of those, amongst all the persons we’ve met, who left a positive or a negative mark: thus, when we meet a person for the first time, these absent figures (who, without our even realizing it, crowd our mind) make the person we meet seem nice or not nice, hostile or positive, pleasant or unpleasant, according to whether, unwittingly remind us of dear ones or unpleasant persons. Just a face, a phrase, a tone of voice is all that it takes: if I see Louis Armstrong’s smiling face while he sings a popular song or I hear Martin Luther King’s moving phrase “I have a dream”, those absent figures can positively influence persons who are inspired by them.

But in mentioning “absent figures”, unfortunately always very present, I continuously come up against persons who clamor for change, who spout the need for innovation, who ask that everything be reformed and then, in effect, they hold on to their privileges like limpets to a rock, impeding any reform improvements.

Resistance to change is a perennial and unsolvable subject.

I have a dream, I too have a dream: that one day I will meet a coherent person who admits that he doesn’t want to change anything, who confesses that he hates innovation and who says that he wants to live in the past, anchored to all the little things.

Then I will be the one to easily change something: the side of the street on which I’m walking, so that I never have to encounter him again.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY La Maison Pomellato per Natale dà un valore aggiunto ai suoi celebri gioielli, una preziosa scintilla di generosità. Il cocktail dell’11 dicembre, nella boutique di Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina, ha avuto un risvolto benefico. Dalla palette multicolore di Nudo, l’anello simbolo della griffe, ai mille diamanti della sfavillante Tango, una parte dei ricavi delle vendite è infatti devoluta a sostegno della Onlus romana Andrea Tudisco.

Più nota come “La casa di Andrea”, l’associazione è impegnata ad aiutare i bambini gravemente malati che provengono da fuori città, offrendo alle loro famiglie una vera casa dove stare durante le cure. E c’è un’ulteriore bella notizia: lo shopping benefico nella boutique non si ferma alla serata, ma prosegue fino al 19 dicembre. C’è tutto il tempo per ammirare, desiderare e suggerire con grazia con quale gioiello di Pomellato sentirsi bellissime nelle prossime feste, facendo del bene.

Better known as “The house of Andrea”, the association is committed to helping seriously ill children who come from out of city, offering a real home to their families to stay in Rome during treatment. And there is further good news: shopping in boutiques beneficial not stopped at the event, but it will last all week, until December 19.

There is plenty of time to admire, to desire and to suggest how gracefully jewel of Pomellato feel beautiful in the coming festivities, doing a good thing.

Cinque chef stellati allietano le soste degli sportivi in cinque baite a 2000 metri, presentando i loro piatti, ideati secondo le antiche tradizioni della cucina italiana. All’ormai tradizionale evento culinario sulle piste dell’Alta Badia parteciperanno vere e proprie star: Norbert Niederkofler (St. Hubertus, 2 stelle Michelin), lo chef del ristorante La Stüa de Michil, 1 stella Michelin, Matteo Metullio (La Siriola, 1 stella Michelin), Claudio Sadler (Ristorante Sadler, 2 stelle Michelin) e Giancarlo Morelli (Pomiroeu, 1 stella Michelin).

Quest’anno, vale la sosta anche il nuovo rifugio Piz Boé Alpine Lounge, un mix fra tradizione e tecnologia, a 2.190 metri. Five star chefs cheer stops sportsmen in five huts at 2000 meters, presenting their dishes, designed according to the ancient traditions of Italian cuisine. To the traditional culinary event on the slopes of Alta Badia participate real stars: Norbert Niederkofler (St. Hubertus, 2 Michelin stars), the chef of the restaurant La Siriola, one Michelin star, Matthew Metullio (The Siriola, 1 Michelin star), Claudio Sadler (Ristorante Sadler, 2 Michelin stars) and Giancarlo Morelli (Pomiroeu, 1 Michelin star).

This year, it is stopping the new hut Piz Boé Alpine Lounge, a mix of tradition and technology, at 2,190 meters. Wood and dolomite rock, with a large window, a full 34 meters, with panoramic views across the Alta Badia: a gourmet restaurant and a lounge bar with comfortable armchairs and wood burning fireplace, to enjoy moments of relaxation between skiing and the other.

LUXURY NEWS FASHION & CINEMA / FASCINO E SEGRETI Nella cornice chic e moderna del Radisson Blu es. Hotel di Roma si è svolto il servizio fotografico di questo numero, che ha visto come protagonisti Giulia Bevilacqua e Fabio Troiano. Di fronte al magistrale obiettivo, la coppia si ritrova in una spy story dai tratti drammatici, tra i segreti delle spie e la passione che li unisce, intenti a nascondere la loro identità in ogni angolo del lussuoso hotel.

Ritroviamo la bellissima Giulia Bevilacqua, che dopo il diploma alla Scuola Nazionale di Cinema nel 2003, debutta in televisione nella serie tv Un medico in famiglia 3. Nel 2005 debutta su Canale 5 nella serie tv Distretto di Polizia, in cui interpreta il ruolo della poliziotta Anna Gori, dalla quinta sino alla nona serie. Nel 2007 ha il suo primo ruolo cinematografico nel film Cardiofitness. Nel 2011 ha recitato in alcune fiction come Dov’è mia figlia?, Il delitto di via Poma e Nero Wolfe. Ha inoltre condotto, su Italia 1, il programma La scimmia. Nel 2014 è una delle new entry di Fuoriclasse 2, fiction con Luciana Littizzetto, Neri Marcorè e Fausto Maria Sciarappa, in cui interpreta il ruolo della prof.ssa di inglese Gaia Marciali, di cui a gennaio 2015 uscirà la terza serie. In questo momento sta girando una fiction a Roma dal titolo È arrivata la felicità per la regia di Riccardo Milani, una commedia divertente e romantica, al fianco della sua grande amica Claudia Pandolfi, di cui nella storia è la sorella, Claudio Santamaria, Alessandro Roya - amici da tanto. Per la seconda volta diretta da Riccardo Milani, un regista che stima tanto professionalmente e umanamente, e con l'amico Ivan Cotroneo, grandissimo sceneggiatore di questa e tante altre serie di grande successo.

Fabio Troiano si diploma nel 2000 presso la scuola di recitazione del Teatro Stabile di Torino, diretta da Luca Ronconi, e segue un corso di perfezionamento diretto da Massimo Navone. Inizia a lavorare in teatro e successivamente in televisione e nel cinema. Tra i suoi lavori cinematografici: A/R Andata + Ritorno, Se devo essere sincera, Dopo mezzanotte, per cui riceve la nomination ai David di Donatello, Il giorno + bello e Passannante. Numerosi anche i suoi lavori televisivi, tra cui la serie tv Le stagioni del cuore, Caterina e le sue figlie, la quarta e la quinta stagione della serie di R.I.S. - Delitti imperfetti, la prima, la seconda e la terza stagione di R.I.S. Roma - Delitti imperfetti di Canale 5 e Il generale dei briganti. Nel 2009 interpreta un ruolo nel film Cado dalle nubi. Nel 2011 viene chiamato dal regista Massimo Romeo Piparo, per prendere parte alla commedia musicale di Garinei e Giovannini, Rinaldo in campo nei panni del protagonista. Nel 2013 conduce il talent show The Voice of Italy su Rai 2. A Febbraio sarà protagonista sul grande schermo della commedia Non c’è 2 senza te, insieme a Dino Abbrescia, Tosca D’Aquino e Belén Rodriguez, diretta da Massimo Cappelli, insieme al quale Fabio ha scritto la sceneggiatura.

We are happy to see once more lovely Giulia Bevilacqua, who following her diploma from the Scuola Nazionale di Cinema in 2003, debuted on television in the series Un medico in famiglia 3. In 2005 she debuted on Channel 5 in the series Distretto di Polizia, in which she played the role of policewoman Anna Gori, from the fifth to the ninth series. In 2007 she obtained her first movie role in the film Cardiofitness. In 2011 she acted in television movies such as Dov’è mia figlia?, Il delitto di via Poma and Nero Wolfe. In addition, on Italia 1 she conducted the program La scimmia. In 2014 she’s one of the new entries on Fuoriclasse 2, a fiction with Luciana Littizzetto, Neri Marcorè and Fausto Maria Sciarappa, in which she portrays the part of the English professor, Gaia Marciali, and the third series will be broadcast in January 2015. Right now she is shooting a tv movie in Rome entitled È arrivata la felicità directed by Riccardo Milani, a funny and romantic comedy, alongside her good friend Claudia Pandolfi (who plays her sister in the story), Claudio Santamaria, Alessandro Roya - longtime friends. Triglia Zucca Broccolo Romano Cavolfiori

400 g. Mullets 150 g. Pumpkin 100 g. Romanesque broccoli 100 g. Cauliflower Clean and rinse, then fillet the mullet.

Pulire e lavare le triglie, sfilettarle.

Mettere a bollire una pentola d’acqua con una punta di sale e una di zucchero. Raggiunta l’ebollizione, immergere separatamente le verdure per circa due minuti.

Una volta pronte, saltarle in una padella calda con un filo d’olio, uno spicchio di aglio e un rametto di timo.

Adagiare un filetto di triglia su una placca da forno, mettere sopra le verdure e coprire con un altro filetto.

Portare il forno a una temperatura di 180° e, solo dopo aver raggiunto la temperatura, infornare i filetti di triglia, condendoli con un filo d’olio, aglio e timo.

Cuocere per 8 minuti circa. Sfornare e servire subito con un filo di EVO a crudo Buon Appetito!

Put a pot of water on to boil, adding a pinch of sale and a pinch of sugar. When the water starts to boil, add the vegetables separately for approx. two minutes.

Once done, sauté in a hot pan with a bit of oil, a clove of garlic and a sprig of thyme.

Place a mullet fillet on a baking sheet, place the vegetables on top and cover with another fillet.

Heat the oven to 180° and, when that temperature has been reached, put the baking sheet with the mullets in and dress them with a bit of oil, garlic and thyme.

Cook for approx. 8 minutes Remove from the oven and serve immediately with a bit of room-temperature extra virgin oil.

SHARE THE FOOD Quale argomento più attuale se non quello che lega l'etica al cibo. Siamo alla vigilia dell’Expo 2015 e l'attesissimo evento milanese ha già fatto parlare tanto di sé, da tanti punti di vista. L’Italia, candidando Milano per ospitare l’Esposizione Universale, ha scelto il Tema Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita. Expo Milano 2015 si confronta con il problema del nutrimento dell’uomo e della Terra e diviene momento di dialogo tra i protagonisti della comunità internazionale. È possibile garantire cibo e acqua alla popolazione mondiale? Aumentare la sicurezza alimentare? Proporre nuove soluzioni e nuove prospettive in grado di tutelare la biodiversità del Pianeta?

L’obiettivo non è fornire risposte univoche, ma sollevare domande e offrire ai visitatori strumenti per cercare le proprie personali risposte. Il dibattito coinvolge visitatori e partecipanti e si costruisce giorno dopo giorno attraverso eventi, mostre, convegni e incontri.

SHARE THE FOOD What subject could be more current than that linking ethics to food. We are approaching the opening of Expo 2015 and the much-awaited Milanese event is already in the forefront, from many points of view. When Italy put forth Milan as the candidate for the Universal Exposition, it selected the theme Nourish the Planet, Energy for Life.

Expo Milano 2015 will deal with the problem of nourishment for man and Earth and will be an occasion for protagonists from the international community to exchange views and experiences. Can food and water be guaranteed to everyone on earth? Can we increase food safety? Can we suggest new solutions and new possibilities that will safeguard the planet’s biodiversity? The object is not to provide univocal answers but to ask questions and to offer visitors the instruments to seek their own personal answers. The debate involves visitors and participants and is constructed day after day with events, exhibitions, conventions and encounters.

And thus in this context and perhaps even with a bit provocation we would like to mention a recent study which found that eating alone is not merely very depressing but it also leads to evilness. Food and morals are very closely linked. Michael Pollan affirms that ethics derive from the need to limit man’s omnivorous voracity and from the need to divide prey or harvests. According to a study conducted by the University of Antwerp, published in the scientific journal Appetite it is indeed the act of sharing that improves the moral qualities of a person.

E dunque a tal proposito e forse in modo un po' provocatorio citiamo un recente studio per cui mangiare da soli non è solo una cosa molto triste ma è anche una via che porta alla malvagità. Cibo e morale sono collegati in modo molto stretto. Secondo Michael Pollan l’etica stessa nasce dalla necessità di dare un limite alla voracità onnivora dell’uomo, e da quella di dividersi le prede o il raccolto. Secondo questo studio dell’Università di Anversa, pubblicata sul giornale scientifico Appetite è proprio la condivisione che migliora le qualità morali delle persone. Secondo tale ricerca, che ha considerato un campione di quasi 500 ragazzi belgi, esiste una correlazione tra l’abitudine, nell’infanzia, a condividere il cibo, e l’attitudine a una vita più altruista: “chi era abituato a condividere i pasti, sarà più disposto a cedere il posto sui mezzi pubblici, fornire indicazioni agli sconosciuti, aiutare gli amici a trasferirsi e fare volontariato”.

Secondo quanto dice Charlotte De Backer al Time che ha condotto lo studio, “condividere il cibo potrebbe essere un bene per le società occidentali, centrate sull’individualismo”, è anche un buon punto per l’educazione: insegna “l’equilibrio, l’autorità e a combattere l’avidità”. Nell'era dello sharing digitale dovrebbe essere semplice parlare e soprattutto mettere in pratica il food sharing che sviluppa la social responsibility!

Based on this study, which took into consideration a random sampling of 500 Belgian youths, there is a correlation between the habit, during infancy, of sharing food and the aptitude for a more altruistic life: “a person used to sharing meals will be more disposed to giving up his/her seat while taking public transportation, to giving directions to strangers, to helping friends relocate and to doing volunteer work”.

According to what Charlotte De Backer told Time which conducted the survey, “sharing food could be good for western societies, centered as they are on individualism”, it’s also a good way to educate: it teaches “equilibrium, authority and to fight greed”.

In the age of digital sharing, it should be simple to talk about and primarily implement food sharing which develops social responsibility!

INTERPRETANDO IL RUOLO DI UN UOMO CHE, “ ...STO VIVENDO NEL 1962, NON SI VEDE RICONOSCIUTI ALCUNI DIRITTI FONDAMENTALI IN QUANTO GAY; FORSE SIAMO ANCORA NEL 1962.

La sua versatilità e bravura gli hanno consentito di calzare a pennello sia ruoli più drammatici che personaggi più ironici da commedia. Dal 2009 in poi è iniziato un crescendo di apprezzamenti e premi: la Coppa Volpi alla 66a Mostra internazionale d’arte cinematografica di Venezia per la sua interpretazione nel film di debutto di Tom Ford - A Single Man - dove era un professore in lotta con la solitudine dopo la morte del suo partner. Strenuo sostenitore dei diritti gay ha dichiarato in quell’occasione: “Se una cosa del genere, talmente retrograda, è stata approvata nel 2008 allora forse non abbiamo ancora fatto nessun progresso. Sto interpretando il ruolo di un uomo che, vivendo nel 1962, non si vede riconosciuti alcuni diritti fondamentali in quanto gay; forse siamo ancora nel 1962”.

Continuano i grandi riconoscimenti: Hollywood gli ha assegnato nel 2011 la sua stella sulla nota Walk of Fame. E non a caso nello stesso è stato anche nominato commendatore dell’Ordine dell’Impero Britannico dalla Regina Elisabetta II. Tutto un percorso di impegno e successi, dalla sua formazione al Drama Centre London alle prime interpretazioni: era il 1983 quando interpretò Guy Bennett nella pluripremiata produzione teatrale londinese di Another Country. Nel 1984, il debutto sul grande schermo proprio con l’adattamento cinematografico di quest’ultima al fianco di Rupert Everett. Da allora tra tv, cinema e teatro non si è mai fermato. È anche scrittore e soprattutto un attivista. Impegnato nella difesa di Survival International, il movimento mondiale per i diritti dei popoli indigeni, è il testimonial della campagna lanciata nel 2012 in difesa degli Awá, la “tribù più minacciata del mondo”. È attivo anche nella campagna globale di Oxfam “Make Trade Fair” insieme a numerose altre celebrities. Ed ha aperto, con alcuni collaboratori, un negozio di prodotti di commercio equo e solidale nella West London.

Un po’ di gossip sulla sua vita privata?

Il nostro Colin dal fascino british ha una forte passione per il calcio, in particolare per l’Arsenal, ma ha anche una grande passione per l’Italia: non a caso nel ‘97 ha sposato (in seconde nozze) la bella regista e produttrice italiana Livia Giuggioli; parla correntemente anche l’italiano (in un’intervista ne ha dato prova citando un po’ di parolacce); ha tre figli maschi; vive tra Londra e Siena e ha dichiarato che quando è in Italia tifa immancabilmente per la Roma.

His versatility and acting skills come to the fore throughout his work, from the dramatic to the more ironic and comedy roles. A crescendo of appreciation and awards since 2009: the Coppa Volpi at the 66th International Film Festival in Venice for his role in Tom Ford’s directing debut - A Single Man - in which he played a professor dealing with solitude following the death of his partner. A strenuous supporter of gay rights, at that time he remarked: “If something of the sort, so backwards, was approved in 2008 then perhaps we still have not made any progress.

I’m playing the role of a man who, living in 1962, is denied certain fundamental rights inasmuch as he is gay; perhaps we are still in 1962’’.

Appreciation for his work continues: in 2011 Hollywood marked out his star on the famous Walk of Fame. And it’s no mere chance that Colin was knighted that very same year for services to entertainment and charity by Queen Elizabeth II. A long line of commitment and successes, from his training at the London Drama Centre to his early roles: it was 1983 when he played Guy Bennett in the award-winning London theatrical production of Another Country. In 1984, he made his debut in movies with the cinematographic adaptation of the same title alongside Rupert Everett. Since then, television, cinema and theater, he’s always busy.

Colin is also a writer and above all an activist.

Committed to Survival International, the worldwide movement for the rights of indigenous peoples, he’s the testimonial for the 2012 campaign launched in defense of the Awá, the “most threatened tribe in the world”.

He’s also active in the global Oxfam campaign “Make Trade Fair” together with many other celebrities. And, together with a number of collaborators, he opened an eco store in West London.

A bit of gossip on his private life?

Our charmingly British Colin is a great soccer fan, in particular for Arsenal, but he also has a great passion for Italy: not surprisingly, in 1997 he married (his second marriage) the lovely Italian director and producer Livia Giuggioli; he also fluently speaks Italian (in an interview he even said a few swear words); he has three sons; he spends his time between London and Siena and has stated that when he is in Italy he invariably is a fan of the Roma team.

Ora lo vedremo protagonista dell’attesissimo nuovo film di Woody Allen - Magic in the Moonlight - che dopo l’anteprima al Torino Film Festival sarà nelle sale italiane dal 6 Dicembre. Siamo nel Sud della Francia nei ruggenti anni ‘20, qui Firth è l’illusionista inglese Stanley Crawford chiamato per smascherare una sensitiva, Sophie - la bella Emma Stone - accusata di raggirare i suoi clienti, benestanti personaggi di quel tempo. Ma la dolce sensitiva colpisce con le sue arti divinatorie Stanley, che finisce per innamorarsene. Da ragazzo Woody Allen voleva fare il mago. Da adolescente trascorreva ore ad esercitarsi con carte da gioco, fazzoletti, anelli e palline. Ambientazione eccezionale con abiti e arredi originali, location da sogno: ville e hotel della Costa Azzurra tra Cap D’Antibes, Juan-les-Pins e Nizza.

Il cast ha vissuto sul posto per tutto il tempo della lavorazione, condividendo momenti conviviali e lunghe conversazioni. Colin Firth ha dichiarato “Credo che in qualche modo l’atmosfera che abbiamo vissuto venga fuori anche nel film, dalle location alla musica che Woody metteva sul set, non si poteva non esserne influenzati. La villa di Juan Le Pins è uno dei posti più belli che abbia mai visto in vita mia. Un’esperienza meravigliosa e assolutamente irripetibile”.

Riguardo il suo personaggio - Stanley Crawford - Firth dice: “È altezzoso, critico, cinico ed arrogante ed ha una smisurata opinione riguardo il suo intelletto... è scettico circa qualunque cosa di spirituale, mistico od occulto. Credo che questa sia la prima volta che interpreto un personaggio veramente antipatico...”

Mentre riguardo la sua prima volta sul set con Woody Allen, Firth ha detto di aver ricevuto una serie informazioni, rivelatesi poi del tutto inesatte, sul modus operandi del regista newyorkese: “non ti aspettare che sia divertente, che ti parli, che ti diriga. Tutto falso: l’unica cosa vera è che non fa prove. Abbiamo avuto la sceneggiatura un mese prima e poi, arrivati sul set, aveva le idee molto chiare, giravamo la scena e se non diceva nulla voleva solo dire che era contento e si poteva andare avanti”. Dunque a dispetto delle voci di corridoio “a dirla tutta sono stato piuttosto sconvolto dalla quantità di indicazioni che ho ricevuto dall’inimitabile Allen fin dal primo giorno’’.

Soon we’ll see him starring in Woody Allen’s much awaited Magic in the Moonlight; following the premiere at the Torino Film Festival, the movie will be in Italian cinemas starting December 6. We’re in the south of France in the roaring 20’s, here Firth portrays British illusionist Stanley Crawford called upon to expose a medium, Sophie (portrayed by lovely Emma Stone) accused of swindling her clients, all well-to-do personages of that period. But the sweet medium and her divinatory talents conquers Stanley, who winds up falling in love with her.

As a young boy Woody Allen wanted to be a magician. As an adolescent he spent hours and hours exercising with decks of cards, handkerchiefs, rings and balls. Then came the cinema, that’s why his ancient passion has often played a role through magicians and hypnotizers in many of his films.

Outstanding settings and original costumes and furnishings, dream-like locations: villas and hotels along the Cote d’Azure, between Cap D’Antibes, Juan-les-Pins and Nice.

The cast lived locally for the entire duration of the shooting, sharing convivial times and lengthy conversations. Colin Firth stated: “I think that in some way the atmosphere that we experienced also comes out in the film, from the locations to the music that Woody played on the set, you couldn’t not be influenced. The villa in Juan Le Pins was one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen in my entire life. A marvelous and absolutely unrepeatable experience”.

With respect to his character Stanley Crawford, Firth says: “He’s haughty, critical, cynical and arrogant and he has too high an opinion of his intellect by far... he’s skeptical about anything spiritual, mystical or occult. I think this is the first time that I’ve played a truly unpleasant character...’’

When he recalls his first time on the set with Woody Allen, Firth said that he was given much information, which turned out to be totally unfounded, as to the New Yorker’s directing methods: “don’t expect it to be fun, that he talks to you, that he directs you. Nothing could be further from the truth: the only thing true is that he doesn’t call rehearsals. We received the script the month before and then, once on the set, he was very clear about what he wanted to do, we would act out a scene and if he didn’t say anything it just meant that he was satisfied and we could move onwards”. Consequently, contrary to rumors “to be perfectly honest I was rather surprised by the number of tips I received from the inimitable Allen from day one”.

La qualità, il gusto, l'eleganza si possono trovare anche in un bugigattolo senza sfarzi, in un’ottima trattoria romana dove gustare un fantastico piatto di pasta, in un riad marocchino in mezzo al deserto illuminato solo da candele dove il letto è comodo e profumato, in un negozio di vestiti vintage dove scegliere, seguendo il proprio gusto, abiti o oggetti diversi che rispecchino il nostro stile.

Ecco, il lusso per me equivale a soddisfare la mia idea di comodità e qualità. Il lusso per me è fare il lavoro che ho sempre desiderato fare e continuare a farlo... è amare ed essere amati... e niente di tutto ciò ha un marchio o si ottiene comprandolo..

Detto questo giocare per un giorno ad essere dei milionari ospiti di un gran hotel, in vacanza a roma, vestiti con abiti e gioielli meravigliosi di grandi stilisti è stato molto divertente... come scattare di nuovo con Fulvio Maiani che adoro e con l'amico Fabio Troiano, ottimo compagno di risate e di set.

Quality, taste, elegance can also be found in a tiny modest stop, in a good Roman trattoria to enjoy a fantastic plate of pasta, in a Moroccan riad in the middle of the desert, lit only by candles, with a comfortable and scented bed, in a vintage clothing store where one can select items according to their own style or objects that reflect our tastes.

There, luxury for me is the equivalent of satisfying my idea of comfort and quality. Luxury for me is working at what I’ve always wanted to do and to keep doing it... and none of this has a brand name or can be obtained by buying it..

Having said this playing for a day at being a millionaire, staying in a luxurious hotel, on vacation in Rome, dressed and adorned with marvelous jewels by famous designers was a lot of fun... like posing once again with Fulvio Maiani whom I adore and with friend Fabio Troiano, the perfect companion for laughs and on the set.

GIVENCHY SI RACCONTA A MADRID È un grande evento. Fino al 18 gennaio del 2015, il Museo ThyssenBornemisza di Madrid presenta la prima grande retrospettiva sul lavoro dello stilista francese Hubert de Givenchy, figura chiave della moda del XX secolo e leggenda vivente della haute couture.

La mostra, ideata e curata da Hubert de Givenchy stesso, ripercorre mezzo secolo di storia, dall'apertura della Maison Givenchy nel 1952 al ritiro dalle scene del maestro, nel 1996.

GIVENCHY IN MADRID It’s a momentous event. Open until January 18, 2015, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid presents the first great retrospective on the work of French designer Hubert de Givenchy, a key figure in fashion in the 20th century and a living legend in haute couture.

The exhibition, conceived and curated by Hubert de Givenchy himself, retraces half a century of history, from the opening of the Maison Givenchy in 1952 to the maestro’s retirement in 1996.

Lo stilista ha selezionato circa un centinaio delle sue più belle creazioni, da musei e collezioni private di tutto il mondo, molte delle quali esposte per la prima volta al pubblico.

La mostra si apre con una sezione dedicata agli inizi della Maison nel 1952, con esempi eccellenti della prima collezione di Givenchy. Tra questi spicca la celebre camicetta Bettina, dal nome di una delle modelle più belle del tempo. Non va dimenticato che Givenchy è stato il primo a presentare, nel 1954, una linea prêt-à-porter di lusso e che i suoi abiti hanno vestito alcune delle personalità più iconiche del secolo scorso. Non a caso il nucleo della mostra si concentra sulle creazioni realizzate per alcuni nomi blasonati, fra cui spiccano quattro donne che hanno avuto un ruolo importante nella storia del fashion system: la Duchessa di Windsor, la principessa Grace di Monaco, Jacqueline Kennedy e soprattutto Audrey Hepburn, musa dello stilista e ambasciatrice della Maison a partire dal primo incontro con Givenchy.

Molte delle creazioni in mostra fanno parte della storia del cinema e della memoria visiva del novecento, come ad esempio l'abito indossato da Jackie Kennedy durante la visita ufficiale del presidente John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Francia nel 1961; o l’abito nero - indimenticabile - di Audrey Hepburn indossato nel film Colazione da Tiffany, sempre nel 1961. La sua speciale testimonial ed amica Audrey ha detto di lui: “...è più di un designer, è un creatore di personalità”.

The designer selected dozens of his loveliest creations from museums and private collections all over the world, many of which are shown to the public for the first time The exhibition opens with a section dedicated to the beginnings of the Maison in 1952, with stunning examples from the first Givenchy collection. Among these the famous Bettina blouse shines out, named after one of the most famous models of the time It mustn’t be forgotten that Givenchy was the first, in 1954, to come out with a luxury prêt-à-porter line and that his clothes dressed some of the most iconic personages of the last century. It’s not mere chance that the heart of the exhibition concentrates on the creations realized for well-known names, including four women who played an important role in the history of the fashion system: the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Grace of Monaco, Jacqueline Kennedy and above all Audrey Hepburn, who was the designer’s muse and the Maison’s ambassadress from the very first encounter with Givenchy.

Many of the creations on display are part of the history of movie-making and visual memories of the 1900’s, such as the outfit worn by Jackie Kennedy during President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s official visit to France in 1961; or the unforgettable black dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, also dating to 1961.

His special testimonial and friend Audrey said of him: “...he’s more than a designer, he’s a creator of personality”.

Dal suo arrivo in Shiseido Italia Lei ha rivoluzionato il modo di comunicare del marchio rendendolo ancora più vicino alle donne,anche il concetto del vostro nuovo brand Statement “Because the Beauty is already in you” è per certi versi rivoluzionario. Cosa dobbiamo aspettarci nel nuovo anno?

A differenza di tanti altri marchi che lavorano con testimonial e celebrities, Shiseido ha scelto di non avere riferimenti di bellezza cui tendere. In questo senso ogni donna può essere una nostra testimonial, l’unica vera bellezza è quella che è “già dentro di te”, come recita il nostro brand statement, e come tale va preservata e curata. Credo che la rivoluzione stia proprio nel credere fermamente che essere belle significhi principalmente stare bene con se stesse perché la bellezza è un processo che investe tutte le fasi della vita, una filosofia che va coltivata nel tempo. Il nostro impegno anche futuro, è quello di oltrepassare i confini della conoscenza scientifica e rivolgerci a tutte le donne per far riscoprire il potere illimitato della loro naturale bellezza.

Per il prossimo semestre in particolare abbiamo in serbo molte novità tra cui l’iniziativa “time for beauty” che tanto successo ha avuto lo scorso anno, e che è stata creata per invitare tutte le donne a “prendere tempo per fermare il tempo”, ovvero a dedicarsi 5 minuti per il proprio rituale di bellezza. Since you arrived in Shiseido Italia you have revolutionized brand awareness, bringing it even closer to women; even the concept of your new brand statement “Because the Beauty is already in you” is to a certain extent revolutionary. What can we expect in the new year?

Unlike many other brands that work with testimonials and celebrities, Shiseido made the decision not to aspire to beauty references. In this sense each woman can be our testimonial, the only true beauty is that which is “already in you”, as indicated in our brand statement, and as such should be preserved and cared for.

I believe that the revolution in fact is firmly believing that being beautiful primarily means being well with ourselves because beauty is a process that involves all the phases of life, a philosophy that must be cultivated over time. Our commitment, even in the future, is to go beyond the confines of scientific knowledge and to communicate with all women, to let them discover the unlimited power of their natural beauty.

For the next semester in particular we’ve planned many projects including the initiative called “time for beauty“ that was so successful last year and which was created to invite all women to “take time to stop time”, that is to dedicate 5 minutes each day for their own personal beauty rituals.

Moreover, among the various initiatives, we will highlight our entire range of foundations because Shiseido is technology not just in skincare but also in makeup.

Culture and beauty: you are perhaps the only brand linked for some time now to an Italian excellence in art and culture such as the Teatro alla Scala. You are surely proud of this, will you continue with this partnership?

Beauty and Art are two values that have always distinguished the Shiseido name and are a part of our DNA. The partnership with the Teatro alla Scala began in 2010 and was highly desired to underline the affinities that two apparently different worlds can have but which share a love for art, beauty, culture and excellence. Next year during the EXPO we will continue to work with the Scala to emphasize to the entire world the bonds and values that unite Italian and Japanese excellence.

With the new project “Crafts in pink” you have spotlighted women active in the theater which no one before you has ever done – does this project also reflect the Shiseido philosophy?

The attention that Shiseido dedicates to each woman was crystallized in the project “Crafts in pink” which was created to give a voice to female figures who work behind the scenes of the Teatro alla Scala and make each performance possible.

These are women who with their grace, femininity, dedication, passion and commitment perfectly interpret Shiseido’s own values and once again emphasize the Alberto Noè, President Shiseido Italia. holistic concept of beauty that art and culture help to express in full.

Eppure tra vicoli, storici palazzi barocchi, volti sorridenti e botteghe artigiane è stato realizzato un set d'eccezione grazie all'ausilio dell'Istituto Superiore di Design, noto per la formazione universitaria nell'ambito moda e design ed eccellenza della città partenopea. Non a caso, la sede dell'Istituto è presso via Duomo, centro nevralgico del barocco napoletano. E tutti gli scorci che vedrete negli scatti di queste pagine - oltre allo storico palazzo che ospita il set - si concentrano proprio fra via dei Tribunali e San Gregorio Armeno, luoghi ricchi di storia, tradizioni e stratificazioni culturali che rendono Napoli una città Mitteleuropea.

But through alleys, historical Baroque palaces, smiling faces and workshops was made a set of exception thanks to the National Institute of Design, known for university education in the fashion and design and excellence of Naples. Not surprisingly, the Institute is at Via Duomo, the nerve center of the Neapolitan Baroque.

And all the shots of these pages - in addition to the historic building of the set - are realized between Via dei Tribunali and San Gregorio Armeno, places rich in history, traditions and cultural layers that make Naples an European city.

A look at the city with different eyes then, fascinated by centuries of syncretism and contradictions that make Naples as fashion: charming, magnetic and unique.

You have associated the new TAG Heuer campaign with a very incisive slogan: “Don’t Crack Under Pressure”.

What does that mean?

TAG Heuer has always been supportive of sporting events in which the athlete must be very well trained and not only on a physical level: from the world of motors to that of racing, the human mind must challenge itself and the body in terms of one’s endurance and possibilities.

Concentration and mental strength must prevail over muscles in all contexts, whether they be a car race or a marathon: that’s the only way to conquer the pressure and to arrive at the finish line. You must be strong to reach new goals and to be in top shape for all kinds of work and efforts. This is the sense of the motto that perfectly personifies the company’s principal core values: Cooperation, Intelligence, Courage, Ambition.

Che significa?

Da sempre la TAG Heuer è vicina a competizioni sportive in cui l’atleta deve essere molto preparato e non solo a livello fisico: dal mondo dei motori a quello della corsa, la mente umana deve sfidare sé stessa e il corpo nei termini delle proprie possibilità. La concentrazione e la forza mentale devono predominare sui muscoli in ogni ambito, sia essa una gara automobilistica che una maratona: solo così si vince la pressione adrenalinica e si arriva al traguardo. Bisogna essere forti per raggiungere nuove sfide e essere sempre al top di ogni lavoro e sforzo specifico.

Che sport avete recentemente approcciato?

Ci siamo accostati al calcio, scegliendo Cristiano Rolando come testimonial all’inizio del 2014, un atleta conosciuto in tutto il mondo reale e virtuale (solo nel suo profilo FB ha oltre 100 milioni di seguaci!), ma siamo stati ultimamente anche molto vicini alle maratone, poiché da un controllo statistico risulta che questa competizione, che copre differenti generazioni e provenienze etniche, è particolarmente amata dai manager. In particolare, abbiamo sponsorizzato con i nostri cronografi la Maratona di New York notando peraltro che questo target, perfettamente consono ai nostri obiettivi, contava numerosi addetti del settore provenienti da ogni parte del mondo. Inoltre la corsa è forse il più puro, semplice e salutare sport in circolazione, concetto a noi molto affine e comunque in linea con il nostro slogan: dopo 42 km in velocità sfido io a usare solo il tono muscolare…

Questa è una prova di assoluto carattere! Le nostre prossime sfide, in corsa, saranno a Chicago, Parigi, Berlino, Mosca e Oslo.

” What sport have you approached recently?

We’ve gotten close to soccer, choosing Cristiano Rolando as testimonial at the beginning of 2014, an athlete who is known all over the real and virtual world (just in his FB profile alone he has more than 100 million real and virtual followers!), but recently we’ve also been very close to the marathons, since statistics have revealed that this competition, which covers different generations and ethnic groups, is especially loved by managers. In particular, with our chronographers we sponsored the New York Marathon, noting however that this target, perfectly in line with our objectives, numbered several sector professionals from all over the world. In addition, running is perhaps the purest, simplest and healthiest sport in circulation, and this concept is very close to and in line with our slogan: after 42 km of running I dare anyone to just count on muscle tone… This is a test of pure character! Our forthcoming challenges, running, will be in Chicago, Paris, Berlin, Moscow and Oslo.

In addition to Ronaldo, who are your “ambassador athletes” of the brand that wholly incarnate the values represented by the TAG Heuer shield?

Each one represents a legend in his or her field, able to re-invent the rules and to make a difference. It’s not merely a question of sporting challenges but of making decisions and facing and overcoming difficulties in all fields: that’s why in addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, Maria Sharapova and Dempsey Racing we also turned to the world of entertainment and stars such as Cameron Diaz and Shah Rukh Khan, Indian star of Bollywood, but in the past also to personages such as Steve McQueen, the King of Cool with ice blue eyes…

Oltre a Ronaldo, chi sono i vostri “atleti-ambasciatori” del marchio che incarnano in pieno i valori rappresentati dallo scudo TAG Heuer?

Ciascuno rappresenta una leggenda nel suo campo, in grado di reinventare le regole e di fare la differenza. Non è solo una questione di sfide sportive ma di prendere decisioni ed affrontare difficoltà superandole in ogni campo: per questo oltre a Cristiano Ronaldo, Maria Sharapova e Dempsey Racing ci siamo rivolti anche al mondo dello spettacolo con attori come Cameron Diaz e Shah Rukh Khan, star indiana di Bollywood, ma anche in passato a personaggi come Steve McQueen, il King of Cool dagli occhi di ghiaccio… ...proprio Mc Queen nel 1971 fu protagonista di un noto film, Le Mans, indossando il modello Monaco. Al di là della fiction, la vostra azienda è stata sempre vicino al mondo dei motori...

Sì, fin dagli anni Venti, ancora prima di legarci alla Formula 1, abbiamo montato i primi orologi sul cruscotto delle macchine da corsa e fummo vicini ad importanti corridori come Juan Manuel Fangio, poi, negli anni Settanta, alla Ferrari e a piloti quali Nicky Lauda e Gilles Villeneuve fino ad arrivare, dal 1986, al Team completo della McLaren. Modelli come “Carrera” o altri sono un nostro assoluto tributo al mondo delle corse che abbiamo immediatamente sposato per passione e finalità. Dal momento però che rincorriamo anche molto l’avanguardia, ci siamo ulteriormente legati, in qualità di Founding Partner e Official Timekeeper, al nuovo Mondiale FIA Formula E - campionato di Formula 1 elettriche di cui si è corsa la prima tappa a Pechino il 13 settembre.

Come è entrato l’universo Green nel vostro brand?

La TAG Heuer è stata tra le prime aziende private svizzere ad alimentare i suoi stabilimenti e a realizzare la più grande installazione di pannelli fotovoltaici. Questa è solo una delle iniziative ‘green’ realizzate in concreto dall’azienda. La Formula E, in questo senso, si è rivelata una ideale e simbiotica partnership in cui abbiamo creduto fin dall’inizio creando una sorta di building up, mossi dal comune obiettivo ‘fast & green’, all’insegna di novità, velocità, ecologia. Il nostro team, di cui fanno parte molti Europei, è formato anche da Cinesi e Indiani, ed il circuito in questione, che necessita per gli atleti di un pit-stop per cambiare macchina, a causa della carica, corre all’interno delle città per accorciare le distanze tra i piloti ed il pubblico, formato prevalentemente da giovanissimi.

Quanto pensate alla Donna nella progettazione dei vostri prototipi?

Sicuramente tanto, se consideriamo che in tutto il mondo il nostro fatturato al femminile copre il 30% e negli Stati Uniti, dove siamo secondi nel mercato nazionale (dopo la Rolex), il 40%: segno che la Donna ci sta molto a cuore e per lei abbiamo concepito una serie di orologi particolari, da quelli incastonati in diamanti agli incorruttibili orologi in ceramica, gli sportivi a prova di acqua e profondità marina e gli eleganti con diamanti con cui sfilare in cene di gala, tutti confortevoli da portare al polso e molto resistenti.

…in fact in 1971 Mc Queen starred in the famous film, Le Mans, wearing the Monaco watch. Aside from fiction, your company has always been close to the world of motors…

Yes, ever since the 1920’s, even before we associated ourselves with the Formula 1, we mounted the first clocks on the dashboards of the racing cars and we were close to important drivers such as Juan Manuel Fangio, then, in the 1970’s, the Ferrari and pilots such as Nicky Lauda and Gilles Villeneuve and then, since 1986, to the entire McLaren Team. Models such as the “Carrera” or others are our absolute tribute to the world of racing that we immediately associated ourselves with for passion and objectives. Since however we also look forward and are very avant-garde, as Founding Partner and Official Timekeeper we’ve linked our name to the new World FIA Formula E - Formula 1 electric, of which the first race was run in Beijing on September 13.

How has Green become part of your brand?

TAG Heuer was one of the first private Swiss companies to power its facilities and to realize the biggest installation of photovoltaic panels. This is just one of the “green” initiatives realized by the company. In this sense, the Formula E is an ideal and symbiotic partnership in which we believed since the beginning, creating a sort of building up, moved by the common objective of ‘fast & green’, aimed at innovation, speed, ecology. Our team, which includes many Europeans, is also composed of Chinese and Indian personnel and the circuit in question, which needs a pit stop for the athletes to change vehicles, due to the charging, runs inside the cities to shorten the distances between pilots and public, formed prevalently by youngsters.

How much do you take women into consideration when designing your prototypes?

Certainly a lot, if we consider that worldwide our turnover for female sales covers 30% and in the United States, where we are second in the national market (after Rolex), the amount is 40%: a clear sign that women are dear to our hearts and for them we have conceived a whole series of special watches, from those set in diamonds to the incorruptible watches in ceramics, waterproof sports watches and deep diving models and the elegant models with diamonds, for gala dinners, all comfortable to wear on the wrist and very resistant.

L’ipotesi più probabile potrebbe essere forse quello di uno smartwatch con cui pagare direttamente al posto della carta di credito. I nostri principii, tuttavia, si concentrano su Lusso, Qualità, Bellezza e Durevolezza. Non siamo un brand che propone acquisti legati ad una moda del momento, ma oltre a voler riflettere, con la specificità di ogni esemplare, la giusta personalità dell’acquirente, ci concentriamo sullo status symbol che esso rappresenta.

Nel nostro telefono abbiamo tutto, ma lo dobbiamo caricare in continuazione: sul nostro polso, invece, è concentrato qualcosa di permanente che scandisce i nostri attimi più belli e ci ricorda, esattamente come l’oggetto che abbiamo prescelto, il nostro stato di lunga conservazione.

Cosa ci aspettiamo dalla TAG Heuer nel 2015?

Creeremo dei nuovi design su nostri modelli storici come il Monaco, l’Aquaracer, il Carrera e ragioneremo su prezzi maggiormente accessibili, specialmente per il mercato italiano. Lavoreremo anche ad alcuni cambiamenti della meccanica che potrebbero rappresentare una sorta di piccola rivoluzione nel mondo di orologi e cronografi.

Continueremo costantemente ad abbinare il nostro marchio allo Sport, non solo come evento competitivo ma come sinonimo di Lifestyle e dinamicità. Tutti spunti prolifici per un sempre maggiore avvicinamento tra la misurazione psico-fisica dell’Essere umano ed il suo controllo nel Tempo.

When will the 007 model appear, with video camera incorporated?

In all probability it could perhaps be a smartwatch to be used as well for payments right from the wrist, instead of a credit card. Our principles, though, concentrate on Luxury, Quality, Beauty and Durability. We aren’t a brand that offers items linked to a passing trend, but in addition to reflecting, with the specificity of each watch, on the right personality of the purchaser, we concentrate on the status symbol that it represents. We have everything in our telephone, but we have to constantly recharge it: something permanent, instead, is concentrated on our wrists that measures our most significant instants and reminds us, exactly like the object we have chosen, of our long lives.

What can we expect from TAG Heuer in 2015?

We’ll create new designs on our historic models such as the Monaco, the Aquaracer, the Carrera and we’ll consider more accessible prices, especially for the Italian market.

We’ll also work on such changes in the mechanics that could represent a sort of mini revolution in the world of timepieces and chronographs. We will continue unerringly to join our brand with sporting events, not just for competitive events but also as a synonym for lifestyle and dynamism. All prolific projects to close the gap between the psycho-physical measurement of human beings and their control of time.

Se diciamo Buccellati evochiamo immediatamente uno degli emblemi del panorama orafo mondiale, erede della illustre tradizione italiana, fiorita nel Rinascimento con Benvenuto Cellini. Fu proprio seguendo i canoni rinascimentali che Mario Buccellati, definito da Gabriele d’Annunzio, di cui fu grande amico, il Principe degli orafi, iniziò a creare le sue opere, reinterpretandole in modo assolutamente personale, unico e riconoscibile. A lui, va il merito di aver fatto conoscere lo stile Buccellati ormai un mito dell’arte orafa, apprezzato da sovrani, pontefici e uomini di cultura.

BUCCELLATI TREASURES IN FLORENCE 100 years of gold craftsmanship tradition on display at Palazzo Pitti: from Mario to Gianmaria Buccellati.

If we say Buccellati we immediately evoke one of the symbols of international gold workmanship, heir to the illustrious Italian tradition which flowered during the Renaissance and Benvenuto Cellini. It was in fact by following the Renaissance canons that Mario Buccellati, defined by Gabriele d’Annunzio, of whom he was a good friend, as the Prince of goldsmiths, began to create his works, reinterpreting them in an absolutely personal, unique and recognizable way. To him goes the merit of making the Buccellati style famous and a legend in the world of gold craftsmanship, appreciated by sovereigns, popes and men of culture.

In Florence, from December 2 until February 22, 2015, a new exhibition, which begins with a tribute to Mario Buccellati: on display are some of the most precious items created by the founder of the brand, such as bracelets, brooches or the tiara, worked in lace or honeycomb, distinguishing characteristics of Casa Buccellati, in which the delicacy of the openwork is exalted by the settings of the diamonds and precious stones.

His connection to d’Annunzio is demonstrated by a bracelet in worked silver decorated with five lapis lazuli, contained in a case autographed personally by d’Annunzio, by a necklace in yellow gold, decorated with a beryl and rubies, offered to Eleonora Duse as a “precious although bizarre” jewel, to be worn as an “umbilical wreath” and by objects such as jewelry boxes and cigarette holders with engraved phrases and images dear to the famous poet. His studies, technical know-how and the secrets of working with ancient silver enabled Mario Buccellati to faithfully reproduce eight cups from the treasure of Boscoreale, the archeological site near Pompeii, where villa “della Pisanella” was located, buried by lava following the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

Il percorso fiorentino prosegue con la sezione dedicata al figlio Gianmaria Buccellati dal talento precoce - disegnò il primo gioiello a dodici anni - incoraggiato dal padre a continuare la tradizione di famiglia. Come ha affermato lo stesso Gianmaria: “Mio padre non mi ha insegnato le tecniche di lavoro, come io non le ho insegnate a mio figlio. Quello che avviene è la trasmissione del pensiero, la visione, l’esperienza lavorativa e l’assorbimento della tradizione”. Da non perdere per conoscere una grande eccellenza italiana di cui esser fieri.

The exhibition in Florence continues with the section dedicated to his son Gianmaria Buccellati so precociously gifted (he designed his first jewel when he was twelve), encouraged by his father to continue the family tradition. As Gianmaria himself stated: “My father didn’t teach me the techniques of work, as I haven’t taught them to my son. MAGIE D’INVERNO LUSSO E CULTURA Si è appena svolta a Nuoro la VII edizione del prestigioso evento Magie d'Inverno ideato dal noto e stimato imprenditore Fabio Rosas, patron della Gioielleria Rosas 1945 e della boutique Casa Rosas. In effetti sono ben poche le manifestazioni anche del lusso, nate 15 anni fa circa, ancora esistenti e addirittura cresciute.

MAGIE D’INVERNO: LUXURY AND CULTURE The seventh edition of the prestigious Magie d'Inverno created by well-known and esteemed entrepreneur Fabio Rosas, patron of Gioielleria Rosas 1945 and the boutique Casa Rosas, just took place in Nuoro. There are in fact all too few events, even in the luxury sector, that began approximately 15 years ago, which still exist and indeed have grown.

Magie d'Inverno ne è un esempio d’eccellenza, come ha dichiarato lo stesso Fabio Rosas: “È stata una manifestazione, quella del 2014, da ricordare; abbiamo battuto tutti i record di presenze e offerto alla nostra città e al suo territorio una vetrina di prestigio. A cui si è aggiunta l'oggettistica di arredo di Casa Rosas: Venini, Richard Ginori, Alessi, Lagostina, Moretti, Villeroy & Boch, Ivv, Christofle e poi il food e il vino. Ed ancora una volta ha confermato tutta la sua valenza per la promozione del territorio e la valorizzazione della migliore imprenditoria sarda. E immancabile il famoso Premio Montblanc connesso all'evento. Alla presenza del direttore wholesale Montblanc, Gianluca Borghi e di tutto lo staff dirigenziale, sono stati premiati il pittore Vincenzo Satta e l'ingegner Ciriaco Offeddu, personalità sarde entrambe distintesi in ambito culturale.

La VII edizione ha poi visto la presenza di numerosi esponenti del mondo dello spettacolo: dalla showgirl Federica Panicucci, madrina di Montblanc, a Mogol che ha raccontato, in parole e musica, 50 anni di carriera e di storia musicale del nostro Paese. Canzoni famose e aneddoti hanno svelato verità e pensieri del paroliere di Lucio Battisti con il quale aveva creato un connubio unico, raccontando la storia italiana per oltre un decennio. “Il mio mestiere è vivere la vita”, ha detto Mogol nel corso del suo intervento. Infine altra star della manifestazione, Giucas Casella che con la sua ipnosi e telepatia ha intrattenuto gli ospiti.

Of course the famous Montblanc Award connected to the event. Artist Vincenzo Satta and engineer Ciriaco Offeddu, both Sardinians who have distinguished themselves in the cultural context, were awarded in the presence of Montblanc Wholesale Director Gianluca Borghi and the entire Montblanc management team.

The seventh edition also boasted the presence of numerous names from the world of show business: from showgirl Federica Panicucci, patroness of Montblanc, to Mogol who told us, in words and music, of his 50 years of career and the musical history of our country. Famous songs and anecdotes revealed truths and thoughts of Lucio Battisti’s lyricist, with whom Mogol formed a unique team, telling the story of Italy for more than a decade. “My trade is living life”, said Mogol during his speech. And we mustn’t forget another star of the event, Giucas Casella, who entertained guests with his hypnosis and telepathy.

VAN GOGH VA A MILANO Sentire l’odore della fatica e la forza dell’umile lavoro nei campi dei “Coltivatori di patate”; illuminarsi davanti alla grande luna che splende maestosa sul “Paesaggio con covoni”; cogliere l’essenza della vita quotidiana nella concretezza geniale della “Natura morta con cipolle”; sentirsi parte del borgo di Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer, sullo sfondo di un tappeto fiorito; incantarsi per il tripudio di colori di quel mazzo di rose, che paiono colte qualche attimo fa...

VAN GOGH GOES TO MILAN Recognizing the scent of hard labor and the strength of humble work in the fields of the “The Potato Eaters”; being struck by the huge moon that shines majestic in the “Wheatfield with Crows”; capturing the essence of daily life in the genial solidity of “Still Life with Onions”; feeling a part of the village of Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer, against the backdrop of a flowering field; the wonderment over the glory of colors in that bouquet of roses, that seem to have been picked just moments ago…

The exhibition/event that Milan dedicates to Vincent Van Gogh (Palazzo Reale, until March 8, 2015) is a kaleidoscope of emotions and “tactile” sensations”. 47 works from Holland, Mexico and important private collections, placed rightfully on stage by Kengo Kuma, the Japanese genius who organized the exhibition. And who decided to use soft upward shining lighting, wood frames and a jute floor covering that calls to mind the subject and the title of the exhibition: “Man and Earth”. A deliberate use of a simple and essential setting, that tells of the link between the Maestro and Japanese culture, as Kuma explained to the packed audience of journalists who didn’t want to miss the opening. And which bears in mind the artist himself, his tormented talent, his wild passions, his inability to follow the conformists of his day.

È un caleidoscopio di emozioni e sensazioni “tattili”, la mostra-evento che Milano dedica a Vincent Van Gogh (Palazzo Reale, fino all’8 marzo 2015). 47 opere provenienti da Olanda, Messico e importanti collezioni private, messe in scena, è il caso di dirlo, da Kengo Kuma, archistar giapponese che ne ha curato l’allestimento. E che ha scelto di usare luci soft dal basso, cornici di legno e un pavimento di iuta che rievoca il tema e il titolo della mostra: “L’uomo e la terra”. Una scenografia volutamente “semplice ed essenziale, che racconti il legame tra il maestro e la cultura giapponese”, come ha spiegato Kuma al folto pubblico di giornalisti accorsi all’anteprima. E che tenga conto del personaggio, dell’estro tormentato, la passionalità selvaggia, l’incapacità di seguire il conformismo di un’epoca.

A quasi 125 anni dalla morte del pittore olandese, ecco dunque una scelta di quadri che mostrano, nell’arco dei 10 anni in cui dipinse (iniziò tardi, a 27), il suo grande attaccamento alla natura, da perfetto uomo del Nord, che considera Uomo e Terra ineluttabilmente legati. Lo stesso Van Gogh scrisse che le fondamentali necessità della vita, senza dubbio erano “patate, cipolle, vino”.

Tema, questo del mondo contadino, della terra e dei suoi frutti, della vita rurale e agreste, che ben si lega a quello di Expo 2015, “Nutrire il pianeta”.

At nearly 125 years since the death of the Dutch painter, here then a selection of paintings that show, in the span of the ten years in which he painted (he started late, at 27), his great fondness for nature, as a perfect man of the north, who considers man and earth inexorably linked.

Van Gogh himself wrote that without a doubt the necessary fundamentals of life were “potatoes, onions, wine”.

This subject, that of the world of agriculture, of the earth and its fruits, of a rural and agrarian life, that is closely linked to that of Expo 2015, “Feeding the planet”.

Tre buoni motivi per vederla…

1. il tema attualissimo del legame verso la natura e i suoi riti e ritmi, che l’uomo non può e non deve trascurare.

2. il meraviglioso autoritratto (uno dei 43 dipinti da Vincent, proprio come Rembrandt, ma nel suo caso per mancanza di denaro per pagare altri modelli).

A COLLOQUIO CON ATTILIO BERNI, IL PIÙ GRANDE COLLEZIONISTA AL MONDO DI UNO STRUMENTO TANTO ATTUALE QUANTO INESPLORATO NELLE SUE POLIEDRICHE SFACCETTATURE

A 200 anni dalla nascita di Adolphe Sax, il celebre costruttore belga inventore dello strumento ad ancia ad oggi più rinomato nell’ambito di ogni genere musicale, la città di Moncalieri, con il suo diciassettesimo festival jazz, si è aggiudicata il primato per le sue celebrazioni d’onore. Il saxofono in tutte le salse è stato infatti protagonista di due settimane di eventi ad esso dedicati che ne hanno ispezionato “chirurgicamente” la storia, la tecnica e le varie derivazioni creative. I protagonisti, chiamati dal direttore artistico Ugo Viola, non erano solamente virtuosi musicisti acclamati a livello internazionale (tra gli altri Kenny Garrett, Rosario Giuliani, Claudio Costa, Piero Odorici e Francesco Cafiso) ma professionisti del settore come Emilio Lyons, il riparatore ed “accordatore” di saxofoni più esperto del mondo - che annovera tra i suoi “clienti” artisti come Sonny Rollins, Branford Marsalis, Archie Shepp, Michael Breaker e Stan Getz - e Attilio Berni, che detiene il primato mondiale della collezione di sax più grande al mondo (ben 516 sax raccolti in meno di un ventennio) e che, in un solo concerto, riesce a suonare (e a spiegarne le tecniche), ben 33 strumenti introvabili del settore. L’abbiamo incontrato anche in occasione di una mostra, allestita al Castello Reale, davvero unica nel suo genere che – tanto per non sbagliare di numero – contiene 200 saxofoni, 200 fotografie d’epoca, 200 documenti originali, 200 imboccature e 200 accessori.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BICENTENARY SAX A chat with Attilio Berni, the greatest collector in the world of an instrument that is at once very current as well as unexplored with respect to its many facets 200 years after the birth of Adolphe Sax, the famous Belgian constructor who invented the reed instrument which today is the most famous in the context of any musical genre, the city of Moncalieri, during the 17th jazz festival, was first to celebrate the event.

The saxophone in all its variants was in fact the protagonist of two weeks of events dedicated to it, which “surgically” inspected the history, the techniques and the various creative derivations. The protagonists, invited by the artistic director of the festival Ugo Viola, are not merely musical virtuosos acclaimed at international level (Kenny Garrett, Rosario Giuliani, Claudio Costa, Piero Odorici and Francesco Cafiso, to name a few) but professionals in the sector such as Emilio Lyons, the most expert repairer and “tuner” of saxophones in the world – who numbers amongst his “clients” artists such as Sonny Rollins, Branford Marsalis, Archie Shepp, Michael Breaker and Stan Getz - and Attilio Berni, who holds the world record for the largest sax collection in the world (a whopping 516 sax collected in less than two decades) and who, in a single concert, is able to play (and to explain the techniques of ) 33 unfindable instruments. We also met him during an exhibition, on display at the Castello Reale, truly unique in its genre which – not to mistake the number– contains 200 saxophones, 200 period photographs, 200 original documents, 200 mouthpieces and 200 accessories.

È avvenuta come un colpo di fulmine, il secondo dopo quello con mia moglie ed è stata anzi lei a subirne immediatamente le “felici” conseguenze, proprio mentre eravamo in viaggio di nozze. Dissertando di musica con un tassista dopo aver assistito alla performance di Joe Lovano con un Conn Chu Berry argentato al Village Vanguard di New York, scoprii che nel suo baule trasportava un tenore Selmer Padless, uno strumento sperimentale senza cuscinetti costruito dalla Buescher durante il periodo della seconda guerra mondiale. Fu quello il mio primo strumento da collezione, anche se inizialmente il mio intento fu puramente commerciale, pensando ad un business di import di strumenti musicali vintage (nel mio secondo viaggio negli Usa avevo già racimolato ben 600 strumenti da vendere!). Dopo poco però, acquisii una competenza tecnica per ognuna delle mie “creature” che mi portò a non superare facilmente la soglia del distacco e a decidere di organizzare un vero e proprio spazio espositivo all’interno del mio Centro di Studi Musicali a Torre in Pietra.

Attilio, what spurred you to become a passionate collector?

I was struck by lightning, the second time after my wife, and in fact she was the one who immediately felt the “happy” consequences, right when we were on our honeymoon. Discussing music with a taxi driver after having been to Joe Lovano’s performance with a silver Conn Chu Berry at the Village Vanguard in New York, I discovered that he had a Selmer Padless tenor in his trunk, an experimental instrument without pads made by Buescher during the second world war. That was my first collector’s item, even though initially my intentions were purely monetary, thinking of a business importing vintage musical instruments (in my second trip to the USA I had already acquired 600 instruments to sell!). Shortly thereafter, however, I acquired technical know-how for each of my “creatures” that made it truly hard for me to part with them and thus I decided to organize a showroom for them in my Musical Studies Center in Torre in Pietra.

What types of saxophones are in your collection?

The assortment can primarily be divided in two groups: the professional instruments and the collector’s items, even though some belong in both categories. A number of the saxophones cannot be played on a professional level, whether due to the tuning (some in fact were made with a high pitch) or to the mechanisms of the keys that can be decidedly uncomfortable and difficult by modern standards. Then too there are the rare or uncommon instruments that constitute the most interesting part, some created specifically and others modified from pre-existing models.

What are the most particular instruments that you take with you for your live performances and that harbor special secrets?

Truthfully, each one has its own conformation, type and particular technique that each time must be studied and tried, but of all the more unusual models I can name the Saxorusofono (or rothophone), the initial antagonist of the saxophone, built with a cylindrical bore and a double reed, just like the oboe and the bassoon, and the sopranino in the straight and curved versions, known for the sound in Ravel’s Boléro and one of the smallest members of the family. Then there’s the soprillo, the smallest sax ever (it’s only 32 cm) and the aerodynamic Alto Grafton Plastic, produced in the 1950’s by Ettore Sommaruga which Charlie Parker was the first to experiment on; but I also like to think of the Conn O-Sax, equipped with an extraordinary extension (I own and play one of the only three examples in the world) and the recent midi electronic instruments in which the samplings are inserted in the instrument’s bell, creating new and unexpected sounds. Particularly interesting are the “tarogats”, hybrids of various instruments, including the Jazzophone, trum-

like the human voice, can change from one register to another; and a very rare sax, unearthed in my Romanian gardener’s home, built (and consequently to be played) backwards... Extraordinarily difficult!

SAX HA UNA SUA CONFORMAZIONE, “ OGNI TIPOLOGIA E TECNICA PARTICOLARE

Che tipo di saxofono sono presenti nella sua collezione?

L’assortimento si divide principalmente in due gruppi: gli strumenti professionali e quelli da collezione anche se alcuni appartengono ad entrambe le categorie. Alcuni di questi sax non possono essere suonati a livello professionale, sia per l’accordatura (qualcuno è infatti costruito ad intonazione alta, sia per i meccanismi delle chiavi che possono risultare decisamente scomodi ed ostici per gli standard moderni. Poi ci sono gli strumenti rari o fuori dal comune che costituiscono la parte più interessante, alcuni creati ex novo ed altri modificati da modelli pre-esistenti.

Quali sono gli strumenti più particolari che porta in giro nelle sue performance dal vivo e che custodiscono degli speciali segreti?

Ognuno in realtà ha una sua conformazione, tipologia e tecnica particolare che va ogni volta studiata e sperimentata, ma tra i modelli più inusitati posso citare il Saxorusofono (o rothofono), l’iniziale antagonista del saxofono, costruito con una cameratura cilindrica e una doppia ancia, proprio come l’oboe e il fagotto, e il sopranino nelle versioni dritta e curva, noto per il suono nel Boléro di Ravel ed uno dei più piccoli membri della famiglia.

C’è poi il soprillo, il più piccolo sax in assoluto (misura solo 32 cm) e l’aerodinamico Alto Grafton Plastic, prodotto negli anni Cinquanta da Ettore Sommaruga e sperimentato in primis da Charlie Parker; ma mi piace ricordare anche il Conn OSax, dotato di una straordinaria estensione (ne possiedo e suono uno tra i 3 soli esemplari al mondo), e i recenti strumenti elettronici midi in cui le campionature si inseriscono nella campana dello strumento creando sonorità nuove ed inaspettate.

Elemento di particolare curiosità sono i “tarogati”, ibridi di vari strumenti, tra cui il Jazzophone, tromba con wa-wa annesso costruito a forma di un sax e il sax trombone. Infine i sax che mi mettono in maggiore difficoltà interpretativa perché non possiedono una propria timbrica o intonazione, come il Conn C Melody “Lincoln”, dedicato al presidente degli USA, i sax a coulisse, in grado di passare - proprio come la voce umana – da un registro all’altro; e un sax rarissimo, scovato nell’abitazione del mio giardiniere rumeno, costruito (e quindi da suonare) tutto all’incontrario... Una difficoltà ineccepibile!

The key element however is the “gigantic” sub/double bass J’Elle Stainer, winner of the Guinness 2014, which contains an enormous 50 liters of air… Where did the idea come from to design it and what are its main characteristics?

The idea of making the world’s biggest sax was born, almost as a joke, from the intuition of two Brazilians, respectively president and inventor/patent holder of a factory that makes extreme instruments, J’Elle Steiner Below65-4hz. About 8 years ago, Gilberto Lopes and João Luiz da Rocha realized that no one had really ever made a true sub double bass saxophone in 160 years, ever since the inventor had patented it in 1846, and they decided to go ahead with the project, which they later completed in June 2013, a year prior to the two-hundredth anniversary of the birth of Adolphe Sax. I started to communicate with them by email around six or seven years ago, I also met them personally in Milan (where there is a branch office of the company) to try out a slide model. We then became friends and they always updated me on their projects, and I often tried out their prototypes: the latest folly was in fact this “giant”, that had all the requisites to achieve the world record.

The instrument is almost three meters tall and has a full and homogenous sound, although the expenditure of air in the grave register is truly impressive. The technique for producing sound is quite particular inasmuch as the air must be insufflated inside in huge quantities but at the same time with a very light pushing pressure. The musician must exercise a lot in order to correctly dose his breath so that it doesn’t finish right away, and must adopt the correct pressure so that the correct note is produced and not the harmonic: the danger is the risk of hyper-oxygenation with consequential fainting (which happened to me the first time, such was the emotion in playing the instrument...).

There are only two of these in the world: this one on display in Moncalieri and a compact version, made by J’Elle Stainer, which is practically the same instrument but folded over and over to reduce the height.

If you were to define your passion for this instrument that changed your life (and surely your vision of music), what would that definition be?

For me the sax i san endoscopic instrument: it goes inside you and grabs hold of your insides, it’s the voice of our interior world because, better than any other instrument, it can express our deepest emotions...

Elemento di punta però è il “gigante” sub/contrabbasso J’Elle Stainer, vincitore del Guinness dei primati 2014, che contiene ben 50 litri di aria… Da dove nasce l’idea di progettarlo e quali sono le sue caratteristiche principali?

L’idea di costruire il sax più grande del mondo è nata, quasi scherzosamente, dall’intuizione di due brasiliani, rispettivamente presidente e inventore-brevettatore di una fabbrica costruttrice di strumenti estremi, la J’Elle Steiner Below654hz. Circa 8 anni fa, Gilberto Lopes e João Luiz da Rocha si resero conto che nessuno realmente aveva mai costruito un vero saxofono sub-contrabbasso in 160 anni, da quando l’inventore l’aveva brevettato nel 1846, e decisero di portare avanti il progetto che fu poi ultimato nel giugno 2013 un anno prima del duecentesimo anniversario della nascita di Adolphe Sax. Con loro iniziai a comunicare tramite email circa sei o sette anni fa, li ho conosciuti poi personalmente a Milano (dove risiede una filiale dell’azienda) per provare un modello slide. Successivamente diventammo amici e fui sempre aggiornato dei loro progetti agendo spesso come sperimentatore dei loro prototipi: l’ultimo azzardo è stato proprio questo “gigante”, che aveva tutti i requisiti in regola per poter accedere all’ambito primato mondiale…

Lo strumento è alto quasi tre metri ed ha un suono pieno ed omogeneo, anche se il dispendio d’aria nel registro grave è veramente imponente. La tecnica di produzione del suono è particolare poiché necessita che l’aria venga insufflata al suo interno in grande quantità ma con una pressione di spinta lievissima. Il musicista deve esercitarsi molto affinché impari a dosare correttamente il fiato senza che questo termini subito, ed adotti una corretta pressione in modo che si produca la nota corretta e non l’armonico: il pericolo è il rischio di iperossigenazione con conseguente svenimento (cosa che a me è successa la prima volta, talmente grande era l’emozione di suonarlo…).

Di esso esistono solo due esemplari al mondo: questo in esposizione a Moncalieri e una versione compatta di proprietà, sempre di produzione J’Elle Stainer, che è praticamente lo stesso strumento ma piegato più volte per ridurre l’altezza.

Se dovesse sintetizzare la sua passione per questo strumento che ha cambiato la Sua vita (e sicuramente la Sua visione della Musica) che definizione ne darebbe?

Per me il sax è uno strumento endoscopico: ti entra dentro e ti prende le viscere, è la voce del nostro mondo interiore perché può esprimere, meglio di ogni altro strumento, le nostre emozioni più profonde…
