Sempre più frequentemente il concetto di lusso è accostato allo sviluppo sostenibile, all’attenzione che le organizzazioni produttive devono mostrare nei confronti dell'impatto sociale, quindi alle responsabilità d’impresa, al rispetto per le persone e per l’ambiente. Quasi nessuno, tranne pochi snob irrecuperabili, evita di interessarsi a dove (e soprattutto come) tutto ciò che costituisce il mercato del lusso è prodotto (gioielli, abiti, orologi, accessori, auto, barche ecc.), cose sempre meno intese come oggetti da ostentare e sempre più visti come elementi che sottolineano l’attenzione all’eccellenza, all’unicità, all’innovazione, alla ricerca.

Da queste pagine, qualche tempo fa, il presidente di Assoetica, Bruno Bonsignore, si domandava se il lusso ostentato, che genera un eccessivo divario sociale, possa essere reso sostenibile grazie alla discrezione, per restituirgli quella dignità perduta e il diritto di tutti a prenderlo in considerazione.

Si sta già assistendo a un passaggio del lusso da status symbol a style symbol: un lusso meno ostentato e più intimo, un'occasione per guardarsi dentro, più riflessiva.

Qualcuno afferma che, se in passato il lusso poteva essere definito come qualcosa di esclusivo ed elitario, oggi si sta trasformando sempre più in qualcosa di necessario e accessibile.

Si dice che nessuno, a un certo livello di ricchezza, vuole sembrare la copia di un altro. La soluzione è un nuovo tipo di approccio al lusso, dove la prima cosa da fare è una ricerca su un tipo di nuova creatività, quella non consueta, che può aiutare a potenziare un lusso davvero nuovo basato su concetti di trasparenza, autenticità e solidarietà.

Come sarebbe bello disfarsi completamente del vecchio e obsoleto modo di intendere il lusso. Dovrebbe esistere una parola nuova in grado di definirlo con un termine che non richiamasse la pacchianeria e il “voler apparire”. Qualcuno lo chiama già green luxury. Altri usano il termine consumo critico, altri (con un richiamo alla contrapposizione del fast allo slow) usano il termine slow fashion.

Certo: bisognerà rassegnarsi a usare due parole. Allora, chiamiamolo lusso etico.

IL LUSSO ETICO

THE ETHICAL LUXURY More and more often, the concept of luxury is paired with sustainable development, to the attention that producers must show with respect to social impact, consequently to an undertaking’s responsibilities, to respect for persons and for the environment. Almost no one, except for a few recalcitrant snobs, shies away from taking an interest in where (and primarily how) all that constitutes the luxury market is produced (jewelry, clothing, watches, accessories, cars, boats, etc.), possessions less and less considered as objects to show off and more often seen as elements that underline an attention to excellence, to uniqueness, to innovation, to research.

From these pages, some time ago, the president of Assoetica, Bruno Bonsignore, asked himself if ostentatious luxury, which generates an excessive social gap, can be made sustainable thanks to discretion, to give it back the dignity that was lost and the right for all to take it into consideration.

We are already witnessing a change in luxury from status symbol to style symbol: a less ostentatious and more intimate luxury, an opportunity to look inside oneself, more thoughtful.

Some affirm that if in the past luxury could be defined as something exclusive and elitist, today it is ever more transforming into something necessary and accessible.

It is said that no one, at a certain level of wealth, wants to seem like the copy of another person. The solution is a new approach to luxury, where the first thing to do is research on a type of new creativity, an unusual creativity, than can help to strengthen a truly new luxury based on concepts of transparency, authenticity and solidarity.

How nice it would be to completely free ourselves of the old and obsolescent way of defining luxury. A new word should be coined to define it that does not call to mind vulgarity and the “need to appear”. Some are already calling it luxury green. Others use the term critical consumption, still others (with a mind to the contraposition of fast to slow) use the term slow fashion.

One thing is certain: we will need to resign ourselves to using two words. Well then, let’s call it ethical luxury.

I TESORI D’INDONESIA SVELATI DALL’INCONTRO FRA DUE CULTURE Moda, musica, danza e cultura dal sapore orientale incontrano l’Occidente durante la celebrazione del giorno dell’Indipendenza della Repubblica di Indonesia.

Tesori d’Indonesia, organizzato dall’Ambasciata della Repubblica d’Indonesia a Roma, in collaborazione con Ghea Fashion Studio e l’Accademia Internazionale di Moda e Costume Koefia, nasce per celebrare la lunga amicizia che lega due paesi come l’Italia e l’Indonesia.

In una serata ricca di suggestioni lontane, animata da musiche e danze tradizionali di Java, Bali e Sumatra, grazie a 26 designers, attrici, cantanti e ballerini provenienti direttamente dall’Indonesia, due culture si sono incontrate nel segno della moda.

Protagonista della serata, infatti, la sfilata aperta dalla collezione “Oriente incontra l’Occidente” e dalle creazioni di Ghea Panggabean. La fashion designer indonesiana, di fama internazionale, nota promotrice del rinascimento nella moda, plasma i tessuti etnici indonesiani, come il Batik e il Tenun, e li traduce in modo culturalmente ricco e moderno, attraverso motivi, colori, layout e tessuti.

Fil rouge della serata, il tessuto Batik, realizzato dai designer italiani ed elemento portante del concorso ”Proposte di Disegni Batik - Incontro Tra Due Culture” organizzato dalla Ambasciata indonesiana a Roma e l’Accademia Internazionale di Moda e Costume Koefia all’inizio dell’anno, grazie al Prof. Giovanni di Pasquale e alla Responsabile Comunicazione ed Eventi dell'Accademia Koefia, Bianca Lami.

La tradizione della scuola di moda più antica d’Italia incontra quella del tessuto Batik, una delle caratteristiche dell’Indonesia e nominato ”capolavoro del patrimonio immateriale dell’umanità” dall’UNESCO nel 2009.

THE TREASURES OF INDONESIA REVEALED FROM THE ENCOUNTER BETWEEN TWO CULTURES Fashion, music, dance and culture with oriental flavor meet the West during the celebration of Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

Treasures of Indonesia, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Rome, in collaboration with Ghea Fashion Studio and the International Academy of Fashion and Costume KOEFIA, was created to celebrate the long friendship between the two countries as Italy and Indonesia.

In an evening full of far suggestions, inspired by traditional music and dances of Java, Bali and Sumatra, thanks to 26 designers, actresses, singers and dancers coming directly from Indonesia, two cultures came together in the name of fashion.

Star of the evening, in fact, the fashion show opened from the collection "East meets West" and the creations of Ghea Panggabean. The Indonesian fashion designers of international fame, known promoter of the renaissance in fashion, works ethnic Indonesians tissue, such as Batik and Tenun, and translates them in a culturally rich and modern way, through patterns, colors, layout and tissues.

Leitmotif of the evening, the Batik tissue, made by Italian designers and foundation of the "Proposed Drawings Batik Meeting Between Two Cultures" - organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Rome and the International Academy of Fashion and Costume KOEFIA the beginning of year, thanks to Prof.

Ghiaccio e fuoco si incontrano e si scontrano per rivelare i nomi dei protagonisti del redazionale moda per Luxury Files Autumn 2013.

Elisabetta Pellini e Massimiliano Benvenuto, che interpretano un uomo e una donna eleganti e sofisticati, e raccontano una storia fatta di sguardi complici e promesse disattese, immersi in un’atmosfera bunueliana.

Elisabetta Pellini, interpreta una Catherine Deneuve 2.0 con la stessa serietà e impegno con cui presta voce e volto alle sue donne sullo schermo. La poliedrica attrice, che in questa stagione è la fragile Laura nella fiction Le tre rose di Eva, presto sarà Anna Ronco, distratta professoressa d’inglese e divertente amica e confidente della protagonista in Provaci ancora prof 5. Nel suo portfolio non mancano personaggi antagonisti e machiavelliani, come la dark lady Daria Danieli in Rosso Valentino, e partecipazioni a web series - Forse sono io in cui è Simona, attrice bipolare, di cui a breve girerà il sequel. La Pellini, che ha da poco terminato le riprese per Il Signore sia con te per la regia di Gianni Lepre, resta in attesa di interpretare il suo personaggio migliore: quello che verrà.

Formatosi artisticamente presso il Conservatorio teatrale ex "Scaletta", diretto da Giovanni Battista Diotajuti e A. Pierfederici, Massimiliano Benvenuto, torinese di nascita e romano di adozione, esordisce in teatro nel 1996 con Luca Ronconi, per poi alternare il lavoro teatrale con quello cinematografico e televisivo. OROLOGERIA E GIOIELLERIA ITALIANE: METE DEL TURISMO STRANIERO L’Orologeria italiana, accanto alla Gioielleria, da sempre eccellente esempio del Made in Italy e del lusso, nel 2013 acquista un ulteriore valore: affascinare i compratori stranieri.

Secondo i dati emersi dalla rilevazione periodica della società Global Blue - specializzata nell’analisi dei rimborsi IVA chiesti in dogana dai turisti in uscita dall’Italia - durante i primi otto mesi del 2013 i preziosi hanno apportato un incremento di 6 punti percentuali rispetto allo stesso periodo dell’anno precedente. In altri termini, la vendita di prodotti di orologeria e gioielleria rappresenta il 15% del valore totale. Generando un valore medio che supera i 2.600 euro, rappresenta non solo la cifra più alta rispetto alle altre categorie merceologiche ma anche, e soprattutto, più elevata rispetto ai 700 euro, a cui è ferma la media generale.

Cinesi, russi e statunitensi sono i compratori con il valore medio di spesa maggiore, rispettivamente di 5.000, 2.000 e 1.900 euro. I primi in particolare hanno fatto registrare un incremento del 3000% dal 2006 ad oggi. Le nuove mete per questa tipologia di turismo sono risultate essere: Milano, Roma, Firenze, Venezia e Verona.

“In una fase così debole sul fronte dei consumi interni - afferma il Presidente Assorologi Mario Peserico - certamente il gradimento mostrato dal turismo di qualità verso l’orologeria acquistata nei negozi italiani rappresenta un segnale molto positivo e confortante. Sarebbe opportuno non disincentivare questi acquisti attraverso adempimenti burocratici abnormi né aggravare ulteriormente i prezzi con un incremento IVA che avrebbe effetti negativi sulle vendite e quindi, in ultima analisi, sullo stesso gettito fiscale”.

The Italian Watches, beside the Jewelry, always excellent example of Made in Italy and luxury, in 2013 conquers a new value: captivate foreign buyers.

According to the data obtained from the periodic Global Blue society survey - specialized in the analysis of IVA refunds asked in Custom by tourists outgoing from Italy – during the first eight months of the 2013 watches and jewels have made an increment of 6 points percentage than the same period last year. In other words, the sale of Watches and Jewelry products represents the 15% of total value. Generating an average value that goes over 2.600 euro, not only represents the highest amount in front of other categories but also, and above all, highest than 700 euro, in which is still the overall average.

Chinese, Russian and American are the buyers with the highest average spending value, respectively of 5.000, 2.000 and 1.900 euro. The first in particular showed an increment of 3000% from 2006 until today. The new destinations for this kind of tourism are: Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice and Verona.

“In a so weak moment for the internal consumptions – affirms Mario Peserico, Assorologi President - certainly the appreciation shown from quality tourism towards watches purchased in Italian stores, represents a very positive and comforting signal. Would be appropriate don’t discourage this shopping through enormous bureaucratically nor further aggravate prices with an IVA increment that would have negative impact on sales and so, ultimately, on the same tax revenue.”

Fin dagli anni Ottanta Tartuflanghe - nota azienda albese, con all’attivo numerosi e prestigiosi riconoscimenti internazionali - ha avuto una mission: diffondere la cultura e la conoscenza dei prodotti tipici delle Langhe ed in particolare del tartufo nel mondo.

Il prezioso prodotto del Made in Italy sarà protagonista, a partire da Ottobre, di Aria di Alba®. Un progetto culinario di alta gastronomia che porterà i tartufi selezionati di Tartuflanghe in un tour mondiale, con tappe previste in ristoranti di alto livello. L’intento del tour è quello di far incontrare affermati cuochi italiani con lo chef del ristorante ospitante e creare nuovi piatti a base di tartufo. A seguire, il 25 ottobre, tutti i gourmet sono invitati al lussuoso ed esclusivo Aberdeen Marina Club, il club privato realizzato da Super Potato – celebre studio di design giapponese. A deliziare gli ospiti, oltre ai tartufi pregiati, ci sarà Laurent Varachaud, talentuoso e pluripremiato Executive Chef del club.

Gli chef dei ristoranti orientali incontreranno in qualità di ambasciatori del tartufo, tre giovani promesse del nostro paese: gli chef Giuseppe Iannotti del Krésios (Benevento), Christian Milone della Trattoria Zappatori (Pinerolo) ed Eugenio Boer.

Dal 26 ottobre Aria di Alba® sbarca a Macau, dove lo Chef del Ristorante Aurora, Michele dell'Aquila, regalerà ai suoi ospiti una cena di una indimenticabile eleganza, in cui si fondono tradizioni mediterranee e diverse suggestioni del tartufo.

ARIA DI ALBA IN CHINA AND IN THE WORLD The Alba Truffle out to conquer Hong Kong. Since Eighties Tartuflanghe – known albese company, with numerous and prestigious international awards – had a mission: to diffuse the culture and the knowledge about Langhe typical products, especially the truffle around the world.

The precious Made in Italy product will be involved, since October, in Aria di Alba®. A culinary project of haute cuisine that will bring the Tartuflanghe’s selected truffles in a world tour, with stages in restaurants of high level. The intent of the tour is to let meet renowned Italian chefs with the chef of the host restaurant and create new dishes with truffle. The culinary tradition of Piedmont meets the culinary suggestions all over the world. All gourmet will be able to taste the fine tuber in its traditional form but also in more innovative versions.

The first dinner in program takes place Tuesday 23 October, at Gaia Restaurant – one of the most glamorous location in Hong Kong, projected by the designer Hugh Zimmern – that boasts the collaboration with the Chef Paolo Monti – roman chef, an Italian cuisine with vibrant cosmopolitan touches, thanks to his Californian experience.

Then, October 25, all the gourmets are invited at the luxurious and exclusive Aberdeen Marina Club, the private club realized by Super Potato, the known Japanese design studio. In addition to the fine truffles there will be Laurent Varachaud, talented and award-winning Executive Chef of the club.

INGREDIENTI PER 4 PERSONE 2 code di aragosta del peso di 300 gr l’una 2 dl di olio extravergine 20 gr di erba cipollina 20 gr di cerfoglio 2 gr di timo fresco 2 dl di acqua 2 dl di succo di limone 20 gr di lecitina di soia in polvere Sale maldon Pepe 30 gr di Caviale Calvisius

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 PERSONS: 2 lobster tails, 300 gr each 2 dl extra-virgin oil 20 gr chive 20 gr chervil 2 gr fresh thyme 2 dl water 2 dl lemon juice 20 gr soy lecithin, dried Maldon sea salt Pepper 30 gr Calvisius caviar

PROCEDIMENTO Fate bollire le code d’aragosta in acqua salata o in un fumetto di pesce per 5 minuti; scolate, raffreddate ed eliminate i gusci. Fate riposare le code in frigo per 1 ora circa.

PER L’EMULSIONE In un recipiente stretto e lungo mettete l’olio extravergine e le erbe aromatiche (solo le foglie); riponete in frigo per 20 minuti, quando il composto sarà ben freddo, frullatelo con un frullatore ad immersione, aggiungendo qualche goccia di limone, poco sale maldon e poco pepe. Filtrate con un colino sottile e tenete al fresco per evitare ossidazioni che danneggerebbero il colore.

PROCEDURE Boil the lobster tails in salted water or in fish stock for 5 minuties, drain, cool and eliminate the shells. Lobster tails should rest in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.

FOR THE EMULSION Pour the extra-virgin oil and the aromatic herbs (only the leaves) into a narrow and long container; place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes; when the mixture is well-chilled, whisk it with a hand-held blender, adding a few drops of lemon juice, a little Maldon sea salt and a bit of pepper. Filter with a thin sieve and keep chilled to avoid oxydation, which could damage the color.

FOR THE FOAM Mix the lemon juice with the water, a bit of salt and pepper, heat to 80° (that is when it starts to bubble), remove from the flame. Add the soy lecithin, whisk briefly with the blender, let cool.

FINAL TOUCHES Once again blend the water, lemon and lecithin mixture until you abundant foam forms, let it rest for 2-3 minutes so that the water contained in the foam sinks towards the bottom and makes the foam itself denser and compact. Cut the lobstair tails in thin slices, place them on four dinner plates, dress with the herb oil, a few grains of maldon salt, heat the oven or gril to warm everything.

Using a spoon, remove the lemon foam from the bowl, pour it over the carpaccio, add the caviar and serve immediately.

PER LA SCHIUMA Mescolate il succo di limone con l’acqua, poco sale e pepe, portate a 80° (ovvero quando inizierà a sobbollire), togliete dal fuoco. Aggiungete la lecitina di soia, frullate brevemente con frullatore ad immersione, fate raffreddare.

ASSEMBLAGGIO Frullate ancora ad immersione la soluzione di acqua, limone e lecitina fino a che vedrete una schiuma abbondante, fate riposare per 2-3 minuti in modo che l’acqua sospesa nella schiuma scenda verso il basso e renda la schiuma stessa più densa e asciutta. Tagliate le code di aragosta a fette sottili, disponetele su 4 piatti piani, condite con l’olio alle erbe, qualche scaglia di sale maldon, fate scaldare al forno o al grill fino ad intiepidire il tutto.

Con l’aiuto di un cucchiaio da cucina togliete la schiuma di limone dal recipiente di lavoro, versatela sul carpaccio, aggiungete il caviale e servite subito.

LUXURY NEWS THEATER / INSEGUENDO UN SOGNO Mattia Bartoli, formatosi presso YD’Actors di Yvonne D’Abbraccio, è sempre più presente sulla scena americana, grazie alla sua caparbietà e allo studio presso la nota Stella Adler Acting Studio, accademia di recitazione cinematografica e teatrale di fama internazionale situata nel cuore di Hollywood. È reduce dal suo ultimo lavoro, la piece teatrale The Rimers of Eldrich di Landford Wilson, considerato uno dei fondatori del movimento Off-OffBroadway e vincitore del premio Pulitzer nel 1980, prodotto da Rochelle Rossman. In cui, sotto la direzione di Kennedy Brown, interpreta il sessantenne eremita Skelly Mannor.

La trama, pur essendo un’opera messa in scena per la prima volta nel 1966, è drammaticamente moderna: uno stupro ai danni di una giovane ragazza claudicante, un eroe che è in realtà un assassino, un capro espiatorio designato e un colpevole che in una città del Missouri bigotta e religiosa come Eldrich nessuno vuole e può accettare. Vittime e carnefici si confondono e si fondono.

Il personaggio di Skelly Mannor possiede tutte le caratteristiche dell’anti eroe, è un anziano ex minatore, mostra segni di follia e ha deciso di diventare un eremita a seguito di una delusione amorosa. Ma trascorrendo il suo tempo a scrutare gli altri, ottiene il suo riscatto perché mette a nudo anche le verità più scomode.

Konstantin Stanislavskji, il grande maestro ideatore dell’omonimo metodo di interpretazione, utilizzato nella Stella Adler Acting Studio, diceva: ”Gli attori che non vanno avanti vanno indietro”.

Posto davanti all’interrogativo su come immedesimarsi nel personaggio che interpreta ne The Rimers of Eldrich, Mattia Bartoli sostiene che “Ogni attore possiede un suo metodo, e da questo deriva la sua qualità. Avendo studiato alla Stella Adler, lavoro sull’immedesimazione: vivere nei panni di un personaggio fino a capirne il dolore. Forse la chiave per Skelly Mannor è stata proprio quella. Quando ci si trova davanti ad un personaggio complesso come un senza tetto, i luoghi comuni e le critiche sono immediati, e se non si è attenti si cade nel clichè del "matto". Facendo ricerche e confrontandomi con veri eremiti e senza tetto ho realmente capito il senso di che cos'è lo strazio, quanto è difficile fare qualsiasi cosa, prendere qualsiasi decisione, perchè queste sono persone che vivono nel dolore dell'ingiustizia sociale e questo è vero oggi, a Los Angeles, come lo era negli anni 50 ad Eldrich”.

CHASING A DREAM Mattia Bartoli, who trained at YD'Actors of Yvonne D'Abbraccio, is becoming more prominent on the American scene, thanks to his stubbornness and study at the famous Stella Adler Acting Studio, international renown acting academy of film and theater in the heart of Hollywood.

It is fresh from his latest work, the theater piece The Rimers of Eldrich by Landford Wilson - considered one of the founders of the Off-Off-Broadway and winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1980 - produced by Rochelle Rossman. In which, under the direction of Kennedy Brown, plays the sixties hermit Skelly Mannor.

The plot, despite being a work staged for the first time in 1966, is dramatically modern, one rape of a young girl limping, a hero who is actually a murderess, a designated scapegoat, and a guilty that in a town in Missouri religious and bigot as Eldrich no one wants to accept. Victims and perpetrators mingle and merge.

The character of Skelly Mannor has all the features of the anti hero, is a senior former miner, is showing signs of insanity and decided to become a hermit after a disappointment in love. But spending his time to scrutinize others, gets his redemption because bares the truth even more uncomfortable.

Konstantin Stanislavskji, the great Maestro creator of the eponymous method of interpretation used in the Stella Adler Acting Studio, said: “The actors who do not go forward go back”.

Placed in front of the question of how empathize with the character he plays in The Rimers of Eldrich Mattia Bartoli says, “Every actor has his own method, and from this derives its quality. Having studied at Stella Adler, I go for the empathy: to live in the shoes of a character to understand his pain. Maybe the key to Skelly Mannor was just that. When you find yourself in front of a character complex as a homeless, clichés and criticisms are immediate, and if you are not careful you fall in the cliché of the "crazy ". Doing research and comparing with real hermits and homeless I really had a sense of what is the torment, as it is difficult for them to do all sorts of things, taking any kind of decision, since it is people who live in the pain of social injustice, and this is true today in Los Angeles, as it was in the 50 to Eldrich”.

COACHING BY ENRICO COGNO / LA NUOVA FILANTROPIA A dispetto della violenta crisi internazionale, che spesso inibisce nuove iniziative di sviluppo, sta crescendo una innovativa visione che vede, specie nelle organizzazioni di grandi dimensioni, il passaggio sempre più marcato dalla classica “Charity” alla “Venture philanthropy”. La differenza sta nel graduale allontanamento dal concetto di “beneficienza” verso quello di “moderna filantropia”: il filantropo moderno è un promotore di cambiamento e trasformazione. La sua “volontà di dare” è legata alla scommessa di innovare. Le risorse che mette a disposizione si saldano a progetti creativi che generano cambiamenti virtuosi nelle comunità.

Un intervento, quindi, non solo di tipo erogativo, ma più profondo, che comprende l’innovazione dei progetti sostenuti non solo nella fase di start-up, ma anche nella successiva diffusione. Questo consente di essere vicini alle persone, alle realtà, attraverso il trasferimento delle competenze tecniche e gestionali. Queste ultime, in particolare, consentono a questi progetti di resistere nel tempo, di rimanere radicati nel territorio dove sono nati o di espandersi anche in altre zone.

Anche se il concetto di filantropia ha origine nell’antica Grecia (letteralmente significa, com’è noto, “amore per gli esseri umani”) negli Stati Uniti la filantropia moderna si sviluppa negli anni ’90 del secolo scorso e viene gestita non solo nelle grandi aziende, ma anche dagli individui, proprio perché c’è un concetto radicato nelle persone di “ridare a chi ci ha dato”, riferito sia a chi ha studiato, sia a chi ha avuto successo. Circa metà delle organizzazioni di Venture Philanthropy si pone come obiettivo esclusivo l'impatto sociale e solo pochi soggetti guardano al ritorno economico: in questi casi, il denaro viene poi in genere reinvestito. Sanità e istruzione (rispettivamente per il 27% e per il 21%) rappresentano gli ambiti privilegiati d’interesse, ma numerose altre aree possono essere destinatarie dei finanziamenti, come l'Housing sociale e l'ambiente. È necessario distinguere tra azioni di Venture Philanthropy, ad alta efficacia ma non sostitutive di un'attività erogativa tradizionale, da un approccio da Venture Philanthropist, inteso come tensione alla sostenibilità degli interventi, a un approccio di medio-lungo periodo, a un coinvolgimento del finanziatore che deve prevedere anche forme di Capacity Building.

Chi si muove in questo solco lavora attivamente e a stretto contatto con i beneficiari: infatti, il 46% li incontra almeno una volta al mese.

In Italia il fenomeno è meno visibile rispetto all’estero: in base agli ultimi dati disponibili è possibile stimare in circa 3 miliardi l’anno le erogazioni per finalità filantropiche delle oltre 4700 fondazioni attive sul territorio nazionale.

THE NEW PHILANTHROPY Notwithstanding the severe international crisis, which often inhibits new development initiatives, an innovative vision is growing that, especially in the larger organizations, more and more often marks the passage from classical “Charity” to “Venture Philanthropy”. The difference is in the gradual separation from the concept of “beneficence” towards that of “modern philanthropy”: modern philanthropy is a promoter for change and transformation. Its “desire to give” is linked to the challenge of innovating. The resources that it makes available are linked to creative projects that generate virtuous changes in communities.

An intervention, consequently, not merely of a donating nature, but deeper, more profound, that includes the innovation of projects sustained not only during start-up but also in the subsequent phase of dissemination. To be closer to the people involved, to their realities, through the transfer of technical and management competencies. The latter, in particular, allow these projects to resist over time, to remain rooted in the territory where they were born or even to expand to other areas.

Even if the concept of philanthropy has its origins in ancient Greece (the word literally means “love for human beings”), modern philanthropy developed in the 1990’s in the United States and is handled not only by large companies but also by individuals, precisely because there’s a deeply rooted concept in persons to “give back to those who gave to us”, which refers not only to those who received an education but also to those who have been successful.

For approximately half of the Venture Philanthropy organizations the sole objective is social impact and only a few subjects look to an economic return: in these cases, the money is generally reinvested. Health and education (respectively 27% and 21%) represent the preferred areas of interest, but many other areas can be beneficiaries of financing, such as social housing and the environment.

A distinction must necessarily be made between Venture Philanthropy actions (highly effective but not a substitute for a traditional donating activity), from an approach as Venture Philanthropist, intended as tension for the sustainabilty of interventions, to an approach for the mid-long term period, to an involvement on the part of the financer that must also take the form of Capacity Building.

Those who move in this context work actively and in close contact with the beneficiaries: in fact, 46% meet with them at least once a month.

In Italy, the phenomenon is less visible than it is abroad: based on the most recent data, donations for philanthropic purposes of the more than 4,700 foundations active domestically amount to approximately 3 billion Euro.

UNA QUESTIONE CULTURALE COSTRUIRE OPERE CON REALISMO E AUDACIA Affermare l’audacia del realismo è un’espressione forte, soprattutto in mezzo alla crisi che stiamo vivendo. Nella mia personale esperienza ho avuto modo di imbattermi in tante persone, imprese, opere sociali che stanno di fronte alla realtà in tutta la sua difficoltà e drammaticità. Non si arrendono, ma cercano di trovare proprio in quella realtà ardua, complicata e avversa, quel punto dal quale è possibile ripartire, riprendere un lavoro, cambiare approccio, creare qualcosa di diverso e possibilmente di nuovo. Ho incontrato persone che affrontano senza remore i problemi della propria azienda, che aprono appena possibile prospettive ai giovani, che costruiscono una propria professionalità in mezzo a tante avversità, che chiudono la propria azienda senza rancore o che aprono una nuova attività senza false illusioni. E in un momento dove tutta la vita sociale sembra oscillare fra ribellione e rassegnazione, oggi è decisivo riproporre l’esperienza di un realismo che sa accogliere la realtà così come si presenta, per trasformarla, cambiarla, rendendola passo dopo passo più prossima alle nostre esigenze di bene e di giustizia.

A CULTURAL QUESTION. BUILDING WITH REALISM AND AUDACITY. Affirming the audacity of realism is a strong statement, especially in the midst of the present crisis. In my personal experience I have had the opportunity of meeting many individuals, undertakings, social works that face up to the reality in all its difficulties and dramatic force.

They never give up but in that arduous, complicated and contrary reality they try to find that point from which they can start over again, get back to work, change approach, create something different and possibly new.

I’ve met persons who face the problems of their companies without fear, who as soon as they can offer opportunities to young adults, who build their professionalism in the midst of numerous adversities, who close their companies without rancor or who open a new business without false illusions. And at a time when the entire social life seems to oscillate between rebellion and resignation, today it’s important to review the experience of a realism that knows how to accept reality as it comes, to transform it, change it, step after step making it nearer to our needs for goodness and justice.

Un tale realismo si esprime in un’audacia che - come dice l’etimologia della parola - vuol dire “osare”, “tendere verso”, “desiderare con intensità”. Non è spericolatezza, ma capacità di lasciarsi provocare dalle circostanze e di rispondere con la totalità di sé stessi. Oggi ciò che interessa è ridestare una posizione umana che permetta di vivere e di lavorare all’altezza del momento storico che ci è chiesto di affrontare. Tante volte abbiamo sentito dire che negli ultimi anni la crisi che stiamo attraversando ha un’origine culturale. La ragione è molto semplice: non esiste un’economia neutra. Ogni decisione che prendiamo - e l’economia è frutto di una infinità di decisioni sia nella macroeconomia sia nelle imprese - dipende da criteri e obiettivi che hanno un’origine culturale. Il valore che riconosciamo ai collaboratori, al lavoro in quanto tale, all’impresa, al profitto, alla sostenibilità ecologica incidono sulle decisioni. Ma tutti questi criteri, in ultima analisi, dipendono dalla questione antropologica fondamentale: chi è l’uomo e cosa lo rende felice? Se i valori non sono riconducibili a questa domanda rimangono astratti, evocati all’infinito per finire nel nulla, diventano un appello all’eticità come palliativo. Ogni operare umano è inevitabilmente frutto di una posizione umana e quindi di una cultura, questo può essere cosciente o no, riconosciuto o no, esplicito o implicito. Per quanto mi riguarda mi è accaduto di incontrare persone che riconoscono esplicitamente, con semplicità e trasparenza, che l’esperienza cristiana è la fonte ideale alla quale attingere con la speranza di diventare più uomini, più liberi, sempre più responsabili nell’agire e nel decidere, disponibili alla correzione e al cambiamento cui la realtà costringe. Per questa ragione mi interessa, in questa sede, comunicare qualcosa di molto importante: vivere al meglio la propria libertà, in modo che la propria vita, la propria professionalità e la propria imprenditorialità siano sempre più radicate in un’umanità autentica e sempre più adeguate e competenti nell’affrontare la realtà, collaborando così con tutti alla costruzione del bene comune. Tale impegno è oggi più che mai urgente per la costruzione di opere dove l’uomo ritrovi e riconosca se stesso. Ma tale costruzione è possibile solo nella compagnia di uomini veri con i quali guardare la realtà della proprie aziende con verità. Una compagnia di amici che possa sorreggere, nel guardare tutti i segni della situazione in cui ciascuno si trova senza censurare nulla, che incoraggi e sostenga nel cambiare ciò che occorre e che aiuti ad avere l’audacia di prendere delle decisioni, anche “rischiose” che siano più adeguate per affrontare le sfide che abbiamo davanti. Tutto, se confermato nell’esperienza, farà scoprire il valore prezioso di questa amicizia: quello di essere sostegno a uno sguardo più vero sul reale.

Such realism is expressed in an audacity which (as the entomology of the word defines) means “dare”, “tend towards”, “intensely desire”. It’s not recklessness, but the ability to let oneself be provoked by the circumstances and to respond with all of oneself. Today what’s important is to reawaken a human position that allows one to live and work at the level of the historical moment that we are asked to face. We’ve often heard that in recent years the crisis that we are living in has a cultural origin.

The reason is quite simple: there is no such thing as a neutral economy. Every decision that we make (and the economy is made up of an infinite number of decisions, whether in macroeconomics or in businesses) depends on criteria and objectives of a cultural origin. The value that we attribute to colleagues, to work as such, to the business, to profit, to ecologic sustainability, all have an impact on decisions.

But all these criteria, in the final analysis, depend on the fundamental anthropological question: who is man and what makes him happy? If the values can’t be traced to this question they remain abstract, always called upon but ending in nothing, they become an appeal to ethics as a palliative. Every human work is inevitably the fruit of a human position and consequently of a culture; be it conscious or not, recognized or not, explicit or implicit.

As far as I am concerned, I have met persons who explicitly recognize, simply and transparently, that the Christian experience is the ideal source for the hope of becoming more human, with more freedom, ever more responsible in acting and deciding, open to corrections and changes that reality forces on us.

This is why, here and now, I want to transmit something very important: live your freedom as best you can, so that your life, your professionalism and your entrepreneurship are ever more rooted in an authentic humanity and ever more prepared and competent in facing reality, thus working with everyone for the construction of the common good. This commitment today is even more urgent for the construction of works where man finds and recognizes himself. But this construction is only possible in the company of real men and women, with whom you can see the reality of your companies with truthfulness. A group of friends who can support, in looking at all sides of the situation in which each person finds himself without censoring anything, that encourages and sustains in changing what needs to be changed and who help to have the audacity to make decisions, even the “risky” ones, that are the most appropriate to face the challenges ahead of us. All of this, if confirmed by experience, will let us discover the precious value of this friendship: that of being a pillar of support for a more realistic outlook.

L’ottava edizione del Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma (8 - 17 novembre 2013, Auditorium Parco della Musica), ha superato le molte criticità annunciate. Il secondo anno di direzione da parte di Marco Müller mostra il forte intento di superare le difficoltà organizzative, conseguenza di cambi al vertice nello scenario politico promuovendo una presenza sempre più attenta degli sponsor privati.

Il Festival vuole essere la festa di Roma, vuole ritornare alle sue origini popolari e non tecniche, qualcosa di più simile al Festival di Toronto che alla Mostra lagunare.

La città capitolina è un set a cielo aperto, il Red Carpet più grande e coinvolgente del mondo, e madre di grandi attori recentemente scomparsi che saranno omaggiati all’interno della rassegna, come il maestro CARLO LIZZANI e l’attore GIULIANO GEMMA. E, più lontano nel tempo, la straordinaria ANNA MAGNANI, la nostra “Nannarella”, che ci manca da 40 anni. Senza dimenticare il grande FEDERICO FELLINI, con “Federico degli spiriti” di Antonello Sarno e la proiezione di Le tentazioni del dottor Antonio (un episodio di Boccaccio 70) del 1961, restaurato con il contributo di Dolce & Gabbana.

The second year of direction by Marco Muller still shows the strong intent to overcome organizational difficulties, the result of changes at the top in the political scene and an ever more careful presence of private sponsors.

Il modo migliore di raccogliere il loro testimone è realizzare un grande evento di cinema e cultura, un’edizione speciale da vivere con l’emozione di sempre, come ha ribadito il Sindaco Ignazio Marino nel suo intervento.

Accanto alle attese “presenze divistiche” - leggi star internazionali - per ora sembra essere confermata Jennifer Lawrence, ci saranno gli attori italiani. Se è stato annunciato a grandi lettere che il Festival sarà aperto fuori concorso da Giovanni Veronesi, con il suo “L’ultima ruota del carro”, un po’ di mistero circola intorno alla madrina che aprirà la serata inaugurale, pertanto afferma Marco Müller: “Non posso dire il nome, ma è l’attrice che rappresenta la mamma Roma ideale” (voci di corridoio annunciano che potrebbe essere Sabrina Ferilli).Viceversa sulla presenza femminile che avrà il compito di chiudere la cerimonia non è stata ancora fatta luce.

FEAR OF FALLING Il nuovo film del premio Oscar Jonathan Demme, sarà presentato al Festival del film di Roma in prima mondiale.

Il Festival Internazionale del Film Di Roma attrae da sempre addetti ai lavori e semplici appassionati.

L’ottava edizione del Festival sarà ancora più interessante grazie alla presentazione in prima mondiale di Fear of Falling, l’ultimo lavoro del premio Oscar Jonathan Demme.

Il famoso regista, sceneggiatore e produttore statunitense non necessita di particolari presentazioni. Basti pensare ad alcuni dei suoi film come Il silenzio degli Innocenti (The Silence of the Lambs, 1991), per cui ha ricevuto un Oscar, e Philadelphia, di cui è stato l’autore nel 1993.

Se poi i cinefili non sono ancora soddisfatti, Jonathan Demme regalerà una Masterclass inserita nel programma della sezione CinemaXXI, dedicata alle nuove correnti del cinema mondiale-, all’interno della quale il pubblico potrà incontrare il regista presso l’Auditorium Parco della Musica, ascoltarlo parlare del suo rapporto con il cinema, commentare le scene salienti e porre domande.

Lo stile variegato e versatile di Jonathan Demme, sempre più sensibile alle narrazioni anticonvenzionali e di impegno sociale e il suo sguardo lucido e acuto, vicino al documentario attraversa Fear Of Falling. Con cui Jonathan Demme interpreta in modo contemporaneo, acuto e psicologicamente complesso, il capolavoro di Henrik Ibsen “Il costruttore Solness” (“Bygmester Solness”), lavorando con due dei più originali “provocatori” dell’ambiente cinematografico e teatrale statunitense, Andre Gregory e Wallace Shawn.

Il film - che racconta la storia di un celebre architetto, sempre più prigioniero delle sue fantasie - è l’apice di un lungo e appassionato processo creativo che ha coinvolto Shawn e Gregory per quattordici anni e che, con la regia di Demme, si rivela intimo e affascinante al tempo stesso.

The Eight Edition of The Festival will be more interesting thanks to the world premiere presentation of Fear of Falling, the last work of the Oscar winner Jonathan Demme. Chi la conosce sa che la sua passione per il palcoscenico viene da lontano. Those who know her say that her passion for the stage is ingrained. Even at the age of eight little Scarlett had a role with Ethan Hawke in the theatrical pièce Sofistry but it’s only with her interpretation in the film The man who whispered to horses that she claimed the attention of the international public.

2003 was the year of her definite consecration with two movies: Lost in Translation and The girl with the pearl earring, for which she obtained two candidatures for the Golden Globes, for best actress in a comedy or a musical and for best actress in a dramatic movie.

In 2004 she acted in A song for Bobby Long, alongside John Travolta. That film got her the third candidature for the Golden Globes. Since then a flurry of activity, gossip and advertising for well-known brands who fought for her as testimonial (such as Louis Vuitton or Calvin Klein). In 2005 with Match Point she started working with Allen, then in 2006 she starred in Scoop, alongside Allen himself and Hugh Jackman, followed

Don Jon Premiére in Hollywood.

Giungiamo così a questa stagione cinematografica, in cui la vulcanica Scarlett sarà nel nuovo film di Spike Jonze che ha trionfato al 51esimo New York Film Fest, ed ora è tra gli attesissimi film in concorso dell’ottava edizione del Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma - in programma dall’’8 al 17 novembre - In Her Scarlett è Samantha la voce sintetica di un sistema operativo. Il film è stato definito dalla critica statunitense con entusiasmo come l’opera di sintesi dell’intera carriera di Jonze “finalmente libero da qualsiasi imposizione esterna e autore a tutto tondo, sceneggiatura compresa, di un film che sembra mantenere un equilibrio riuscitissimo tra la follia surreale degli esordi e una maggiore aderenza all’onestà dei sentimenti, tanto che delle derive del primo Jonze, quelle maggiormente esibite come sterzate improvvise del plot, non sembra rimanere più traccia”. La sinossi è chiara, siamo a Los Angeles ed in un futuro vicino ma imprecisato, lo scrittore Theodore Twombly, interpretato da Joaquin Phoenix, scarica un nuovo sistema operativo per il suo computer che tra le caratteristiche implementate ha quella di poter pensare e ragionare in modo compiuto, attraverso la voce della bella Scarlett. E Theodore presto si innamora di Samantha, una voce e un sistema, da qui il film sembra dare una lettura estrema della nostra relazione con la tecnologia, con i sistemi di realtà aumentata e con i software ma quello che si evince dalle recensioni pubblicate oltreoceano, è un approccio da parte di Jonze per niente freddo e molto vicino ai personaggi. Il film si regge quasi interamente sull’interpretazione di Phoenix, che ovviamente controlla tutto il plot con i suoi percorsi che di tanto in tanto vengono interrotti dai flashback che gli ricordano il menage con la sua ex, interpretata da Rooney Mara.

In Italia il film verrà distribuito dalla Bim che al di là dell’attesa anteprima durante il Festival di Roma sembra che lancerà il film nelle sale italiane solo nel 2014.

This season we will see the exuberant Scarlett in a new movie by Spike Jonze which triumphed at the 51st New York Film Fest and is now amongst the films presented at the eighth edition of the International Film Festival of Rome, scheduled for November 8-17. In Her Scarlett plays Samantha, the synthetic voice of an operating system. The film has been defined by American critics with enthusiasm as the compendium of the entire career of Jonze “at last free of any external impositions and allaround author, screenplay included, of a film that seems to maintain a successful balance between the surreal folly of the beginning and a stronger adherence to the honesty of sentiments, to the extent that there doesn’t seem to be a trace of the drifting in the early Jonze films, mostly exhibited as sudden twists of the plot”. The synopsis is clear, we’re in Los Angeles in an undefined but close future; writer Theodore Twombly, interpreted by Joaquin Phoenix, downloads a new operating system for his computer and one of the characteristics implemented is that it can think and reason as we do, through the voice of lovely Scarlett. And Theodore soon falls in love with Samantha, a voice and a system. The movie seems to give an extreme reading to our relations with technology, with virtual reality and with software but what comes through from the critiques published in the United States is an approach on the part of Jonze, not at all cold and quite close to the characters. The film rests almost totally in Phoenix’ interpretation, which obviously controls the plot with its twists and turns which from time to time are interrupted by flashbacks of his marriage to his ex-wife, interpreted by Rooney Mara.

The movie will be distributed in Italy by Bim, which aside from the premiere during the Festival of Rome, only seems to be ready to launch the film in Italian movie theaters in 2014.

Altra interessante uscita nelle sale prevista in Italia per quest’autunno caldo è Don Jon dove la Johansson è accanto a Julianne Moore e Joseph Gordon-Levitt , che in questa pellicola debutta dietro la macchina da presa . Jon è un ragazzo con una vita regolare e rituale. La messa, la palestra, la discoteca, le ragazze.

Ma la sua più grande passione è il porno, lo preferisce addirittura ad un fidanzamento. Finché non incontra una bellissima Scarlett che attirerà la sua attenzione tanto da fargli prendere in considerazione l’idea di abbandonare quella sua discutibile passione. Alcuni pensavano fosse un film sulla dipendenza dalla pornografia e dal sesso ma non è così. Don Jon è una commedia su come gli uomini e le donne si relazionano tra loro, e su come i media che consumiamo possono creare aspettative irrealistiche.

Insomma l’instancabile biondina tutta curve ci riserva continue interpretazioni e sorprese, sempre sulla cresta dell’onda e dei red carpet internazionali non delude mai le aspettative dei più critici cinefili o degli innumervoli fans della sua sorridente bellezza.

Another interesting entry in movie theaters scheduled for Italy this warm autumn is Don Jon in which Johansson stars with Julianne Moore and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who in this film debuts as director. Jon is a young man with a routine and ritual life. Mass, gym, discotheques, girls. But his greatest passion is pornography, he even prefers it to an engagement. La Fiber Art o Arte Tessile Contemporanea vive di vita propria e di un vasto panorama di artisti che nel mondo interpretano la sua potente poetica. Per rimanere in Italia vediamo i centri di riferimento a Valcellina, a Como, e nei musei che ne hanno intrapreso questo innovativo cammino di esposizione e di proposta. Roma sta preparando un nuovo evento, un’importante mostra che prende lo spunto da “Off Loom - Arte fuori dal telaio”, esposizione organizzata nel maggio del 2000 che ha ospitato gli artisti più rappresentativi: dai maestri storici alle avanguardie. Fiber Art è un’esperienza artistica che ha in sè una componente magica e stabilisce un profondo dialogo con l’ambiente oltre che il pubblico. Lo strumento del telaio è superato ma mantiene viva la poetica dell’arte del filare e del tessere, esprimendo memorie presenti della tradizione antica: un riferimento archetipo e un’intenzione concettuale. Non si tratta di arte applicata o di arte minore ma di Arte che incontra la materia dell’Arte: è difficile comprendere dove finisca l’artigianato e dove comincia l’arte ma questo dilemma e discussione culturale sono facilmente risolvibili quando ci si imbatte nelle opere. Forma e sostanza. Sostanza leggera nel sentimento e materia solida della forma.

Per dare un valore a questa riflessione basta osservare le opere appena esposte a Roma alla Temple University Rome Campus che ha visto due delle protagonista della Fiber Art italiana che operano a livello internazionale insieme a tre esponenti dell’attuale avanguardia.

Fiber Art or Contemporary Textile Art lives a life of its own and of a vast panorama or artists who all over the world interpret its powerful poetry. To remain in Italy, we see reference centers in the Valcellina, in Como, and in the museums that have undertaken this innovative decision for expositions and proposals. Rome is preparing a new event, an important exhibition that originated with “Off Loom - Art outside the loom”, an exhibition that was organized in May 2000 with the most representtive artists: from well-known masters to the avant garde. Fiber Art is an artistic experience that is itself a magical component and establishes a profound dialogue with the environment as well as with the public. The instrument of the loom is superseded but it keeps the poetry of art in spinning and weaving alive, expressing present memories of an ancient tradition: an archetype reference and a conceptual intention. This is not applied art or a lesser art but an Art that meets the material of the Art: it’s hard to understand where craftsmanship ends and where art begins but this dilemma and cultural discussion are easily solved when one sees the works. Form and substance.

To give value to this reflection one must simply observe the works recently exhibited in Rome at Temple University Rome Campus, with two of the protagonists of the Italian Fiber Art who operate on an international level, together with three members of the current avant garde.

The “Full-Empty” by Franca Sonnino is the story of the artist’s human and personal experience that interfaces with “Way out for a constrained heart” by Lydia Predominato that digs deep inside our being to then block the look at subjects with a strong impact and violently current. The female universe faced by Elisabetta Diamanti with “Hands that” and

by Noushin Moghtader Gilvael with “Daphne’s escape” sees the sole possible human condition in nature and passes through the lightness of Federica Luzzi’s writing with the work “White shell tongue1”.

The materials merge, they multiply, they repeat, they build designs through the use of the various fibers that alternate, between cotton knits, iron, to carvings and digital printing. They are personal subjects and of humanity to which these committed artists refer, who dig in the experience of these times and of an unforgotten memory.

Il “Pieno-Vuoto” di Franca Sonnino è il racconto dell’esperienza umana e personale dell’artista che s’interfaccia con “Way out for a constrained heart” di Lydia Predominato che scava nell’interiorità del nostro essere per poi fermare lo sguardo a temi di forte impatto e di violenta attualità. L’universo femminile affrontato da Elisabetta Diamanti con “Mani che” e da Noushin Moghtader Gilvael con “La fuga di Dafne” vede in natura l’unica possibile condizione umana e passa attraverso la leggerezza della scrittura di Federica Luzzi con l’opera “White shell tongue1”.

I materiali si fondono, si moltiplicano, si ripetono, costruiscono le trame attraverso l’uso delle diverse fibre che si alternano, tra maglie di cotone, di ferro, fino all’incisione e alla stampa digitale. Sono temi personali e dell’umanità a cui fanno riferimento queste artiste impegnate che scavano nell’esperienze di questo tempo e di un tempo di memoria non dimenticata.

Tutto ciò in completa sintonia con le tematiche che attraversano l’importante retrospettiva dedicata a Jagoda Buiç in corso a Trieste al Museo Revoltella, mostra dal forte potere evocativo dedicata l’artista dalmata. Monumentali sculture tessili, composizioni in carta, collage, video: materiali e strutture che rappresentano il teatro del mondo, qui dove il mondo parla attraverso il dramma e dove la tragedia è un “banale” evento quotidiano.

La Fiber Art è una scrittura e scrivendo lascia tracce di eventi che vanno lette con quei sensi oltre ai nostri sensi. Fila e tesse trame più come rivelazioni, passando attraverso il labirinto della vita la cui uscita è praticabile solo attraverso il lungo filo che ri-conduce.

All of this in total harmony with the subjects that cross the important retrospective dedicated to Jagoda Buiç currently in Trieste at the Revoltella Museum, exhibition with a strong evocative power dedicated to the Dalmatian artist. Monumental textile sculptures, compositions in paper, collage, video: materials and structures that represent the theater of the world, here where the world speaks through drama and where tragedy is a “banal” daily event.

Fiber Art is written and writing leaves traces of events that should be read with those senses as well as with our senses. It spins and weaves designs more as revelations, passing through the labyrinth of life, whose exit is practicable only through the long thread that takes us back.

Omega has found a revolutionary solution. The Swiss brand has always fostered innovation and continues to do so with the launch of its very new mechanical movement inside the Seamaster Aqua Terra > 15.000 gauss, destined to make history. A Co-Axial chronometer with a case made of 41,50 mm of stainless steel, mounted on a bracelet which is also in stainless steel or on a brown leather band. Light yellow lacquered face, brushed sun strokes radiate from the center outwards and decorated with the characteristic vertical lines that distinguish the popular collection Aqua Terra by Omega. The wording > 15’000 gauss also appears, applied, on the face, and this is the unique characteristic of this timepiece.

The first prototype of the movement, applied to an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra model, was realized thanks to the technology developed by the Omega engineers in collaboration with specialists from ETA. A unique technology for which numerous patents are being registered.

A differenza dei tradizionali dispositivi per contrastare gli effetti del magnetismo, il movimento Omega non sfrutta il principio della gabbia protettiva inserita all'interno della cassa, è esso stesso costruito con materiali non ferrosi.

Fino ad oggi la risposta più convincente al problema del magnetismo in orologeria è stata infatti la gabbia interna, studiata per ostacolare l'influenza del campo magnetico sui movimenti degli orologi ma che ha tuttavia vari limiti, fra cui la difficoltà a resistere alla forza dei magneti permanenti, presenti in quantità sempre maggiore nel nostro ambiente. Inoltre, sul piano estetico, impedisce la visualizzazione del movimento, escludendo la possibilità di realizzare un datario a finestrella.

Mentre, essendo esso stesso anti-magnetico, il movimento del Seamaster Aqua Terra > 15.000 gauss non necessita di una gabbia di protezione. L'orologio che lo contiene può così vantare un fondello con vetro zaffiro trasparente, che rivela l'intero calibro Co-Axial 8508. Sul quadrante, a ore 3, è inoltre presente un datario a finestrella.

Inoltre è impermeabile fino a una profondità di 150 metri.

Contrary to traditional devices that offset the effects of magnetism, the Omega movement does not exploit the principle of the protective cage inserted within the case, it is the case itself that is built with non-ferrous materials.

Until today, the most convincing response to the problem of magnetism was in fact the internal cage, studied to obstruct the influence of the magnetic field on watch movements but which nonetheless has its limits, including difficulty in resisting the forces of permanent magnets, found in ever increasing quantities in our environment. Moreover, from an aesthetic point of view, it hinders the visualization of the movement, excluding any possibility for realizing a calendar window.

Now, since it is already anti-magnetic, the Seamaster Aqua Terra > 15.000 gauss movement does not require a protective cage. The watch that surrounds it can thus boast a back case with transparent sapphire glass, that reveals the entire caliber Co-Axial 8508. On the face, at 3 o’clock, moreover there is a calendar window. In addition, it is waterproof up to a depth of 150 meters.

The “La Terrazza” bar welcomes all those who want to relax with a drink or a snack and where dinners are also served in a magical atmosphere. As we all know, music is the best accompaniment for an aperitif: from the subdued lounge atmosphere to jazz & blues, or, when the rhythm is swing and it mixes with samba it evolves into bosssa nova. Hotel Capo d’Africa loves music and it made sure it engaged the talents of Maestro Rosario Fugà to offer guests something special: twice a week, during cocktails, Fugà plays his flute on the roof-garden and in winter at the Centrum Bar at the lobby. SCORCI NAUTICI L'autunno è un momento importante per la nautica, si sono appena svolti i più importanti saloni nautici internazionali: Cannes, Genova, Atene, Amburgo, Fort Lauderdale

Sappiamo che in particolare nell'ultimo quinquennio il comparto nautico ha registrato un calo dei fatturati di circa il 60%. Dai dati più recenti provenienti dalla cinquantatreesima edizione del Salone Nautico di Genova sembra ci sia uno spiraglio di ripresa per il settore; si è rivelata vincente la formula più contenuta e più breve della manifestazione, con una nuova suddivisione degli spazi e con più imbarcazioni in acqua. Nei cinque giorni di rassegna il numero dei visitatori è arrivato a quota 115 mila e “In una situazione di mercato non facile - spiega la presidente di Fiera di Genova, Sara Armella - un dato importante è stato la tenuta del Salone 2013, che ha saputo rinnovarsi grazie ad un grande lavoro di squadra, per proporre una rassegna più aderente ai bisogni di espositori e visitatori”. Non solo esposizione, anche luogo fondamentale di incontro, per interessanti eventi e dibattiti, laboratori pratici e prove a mare.

E ancora una volta la nautica italiana, nonostante il momento non facile, riscuote apprezzamenti in tutto il mondo e svela inaspettate novità.

Un sapiente studio di illuminazione, poi, enfatizza le percezioni sensoriali di morbidezza e alleggerisce gli spazi. La luce, gestita dalla domotica di bordo è volutamente sempre indiretta.

Il Monaco Yacht Show - l’evento considerato il più importante al mondo nel superyachting - ha presentato in prima mondiale il M/Y Admiral “Cacos V”, decretato il motoryacht più silenzioso al mondo dal RINA (Registro Italiano Navale).

Varato nel 2013 e costruito da Admiral Tecnomar, la divisione yachting di The Italian Sea Group, l’ Admiral Cacos V della serie Impero ha ottenuto il miglior livello di comfort mai riconosciuto. Agli altissimi risultati raggiunti, in termini di silenziosità (fino al 25% per il rumore e fino all’80% per le vibrazioni) si aggiunge un ulteriore riconoscimento da parte del RINA: la certificazione Green Plus. Un gioiello di tecnica e di design, infatti non è stato tralasciato nessun dettaglio. A partire dalla timoneria, le cui vetrate inclinate in senso inverso permettono la riduzione dei riflessi e gli effetti dell’acqua sui vetri; le ali di plancia ampie e sporgenti, per consentire la massima visibilità durante le manovre; il layout e gli allestimenti interni, progettati sulle esigenze dell’armatore; il contrasto lucido/opaco dello scafo che accresce l’appeal. Per proseguire con una serie di dettagli pensati per assicurare il massimo comfort possibile agli ospiti. Ad esempio le murate esterne quasi verticali che migliorano l’abitabilità,aumentando gli spazi. Oppure le finestrature a tutta altezza del salone e dell’area pranzo poste sul ponte principale. E ancora la dislocazione delle cabine: verso prua quella dell’Armatore, a centro nave le quattro per gli ospiti e a prua le tre dell’Equipaggio, il quale ha transiti indipendenti per garantire la massima privacy agli ospiti. Non ha avuto ancora modo di vedere La grande bellezza di Paolo Sorrentino ma il film di Milton Gendel su Roma è ancora in fieri e continua il suo montaggio negli imprevedibili scatti che l’hanno immortalata in oltre sessant’anni di fervida attività fotografica. Approdato nella Città Eterna alla fine del 1949 per compiere degli studi urbanistici grazie alla borsa di studio Fullbright, il “Paparazzo privato”, come lui stesso si definisce, non ha mai interrotto la sua ricerca sui dettagli di una città al contempo monumentale e quotidiana ma, in entrambi gli aspetti, insolita. Fin dall’inizio i suoi click, cuciti addosso alle personalità ritratte, hanno riflesso una società ricca di aneddoti in cui non ha mai voluto cogliere un momento privilegiato, semmai giocando il ruolo di cacciatore di istanti con un’ottica familiare e domestica. Il valore del tempo secondo le fotografie di Gendel è inscritto in una fuga perenne ma perfettamente conservato nella sua lucidissima memoria e negli oltre 72000 negativi del suo archivio.

Lo abbiamo incontrato a Palazzo Primoli, sede della fondazione intitolata all’amico Mario Praz, dove risiede la sua sterminata collezione, per una chiacchierata sulla sua città adottiva.

Com’è cambiata la sua Roma e quale parte le sta più a cuore?

Purtroppo dubito che potrei rifare le stesse scelte di un tempo. A Roma tutto è peggiorato, a partire dal traffico e dall’allargamento della popolazione. È diventata una grande metropoli mentre negli anni del dopoguerra era una piccola città nella quale si ritrovavano numerosi amici. E soprattutto era molto fotogenica! Ho sempre vissuto al centro, che considero la parte più interessante: prima via Monserrato, poi Piazza Campitelli, Isola Tiberina, Palazzo Costaguti, Palazzo Doria e Palazzo Primoli. Del resto, allora, erano in pochi – principalmente artisti ed intellettuali - a voler abitare al centro: la moda di scegliere il cuore di Roma si diffuse solo in seguito, quando Sophia Loren comprò un appartamento in Piazza Campitelli, ai primi anni Settanta. Personalmente, se non avessi potuto vivere al centro avrei preferito Casablanca!

ROME: YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW IN THE UNEXPECTED SHOTS BY MILTON GENDEL He hasn’t yet had a chance to see La grande bellezza by Paolo Sorrentino but Milton Gendel’s film on Rome is still in the works and the editing continues on the unexpected shots which have made him famous for more than sixty years as an untiring photographer. He landed in the Eternal City at the end of 1949 to pursue urban planning studies thanks to a Fulbright scholarship and since then the “Private Paparazzo” (his own definition) has never interrupted his search for details in a city that is at once monumental and ordinary but, in both aspects, unusual.

From the onset his shots, adhering to the persons depicted, reflected a society rich in anecdotes in which he has never sought to capture a privileged instant, but rather playing the role of hunter of instants with a familiar and a domestic eye. The value of time according to Gendel’s photographs is inscribed in a perennial escape yet perfectly conserved in his quite lucid memory and in the more than 72,000 negatives in his archives. We met with him for a chat on his adopted city at Palazzo Primoli, center for the foundation named after his friend Mario Praz, where his extensive collection is housed.

How has your Rome changed and which part is closest to your heart?

I’m afraid I wouldn’t make the same choices as before.

Everything has gotten worse in Rome, from traffic to the population explosion. It’s become a huge metropolis while right after WWII it was a small city, with lots of friends.

But most of all it was photogenic! I’ve always lived in the center, which in my opinion is the most interesting area: first on via Monserrato, then Piazza Campitelli, Isola Tiberina, Palazzo Costaguti, Palazzo Doria and Palazzo Primoli. On the other hand, at that time only a few (mostly artists and intellectuals) wanted to live in the center: the custom of choosing the heart of Rome only spread later on, when Sophia Loren bought an apartment in Piazza Campitelli, at the beginning of the 1970’s.

Personally, if I hadn’t been able to live in the center I would have preferred living in Casablanca!

Prima di tutto c’erano Manisco, Drazio, Perilli e Guerrini, poi Turcato, Tancredi, Burri, Scialoja. La maggior parte di questi ebbi occasione di conoscerla nei salotti di Carandini (il padre di Andrea, allora presidente dell’Alitalia), dove si incontravano tutti i letterati e politici “per bene”, dai radicali ai repubblicani; da Flaminia Cecchi del Grillo, dove conobbi Guttuso e dove era spesso presente Alberto Moravia; ma in particolare nei ritrovi organizzati da Mimì Pecci Blunt, momenti storici d’incontro tra arte e aristocrazia romana.

La Roma a cavallo degli anni 50/60 era il fulcro delle avanguardie. Che ricordi ha di queste?

In quel momento tutti tendevano ad unirsi in qualche corrente. Nel 1955, ad esempio, ricordo che conobbi un esponente della famiglia siciliana Samonà, allora compagno di Topazia Alliata Maraini, che era una specie di capogruppo del movimento Tiber Group, di cui faceva parte anche Mimmo Rotella. Fu lì che questi espose per la prima volta i suoi “decollage” e la mostra che vidi, organizzata da Emilio Villa, era allestita addirittura su un barcone.

Poi vi fu l’esperienza della Rome New York Art Foundation, una delle più significative gallerie d’arte contemporanea, attiva per soli quattro anni nel cuore dell’Isola Tiberina, e sottostante l’appartamento che io e la mia seconda moglie, Judith Montagu, avevamo allora preso in affitto.

Who were the artists and which cultural circles did you frequent the most in Rome?

First of all there were Manisco, Drazio, Perilli and Guerrini, later Turcato, Tancredi, Burri, Scialoja. I met most of them at events organized by Carandini (Andrea’s father, then president of Alitalia), where all the “good” intellectuals and politicians, from radicals to republicans, met; at Flaminia Cecchi del Grillo’s, where I met Guttuso and where Alberto Moravia was also often present; but in particular at events organized by Mimì Pecci Blunt, historical meetings between art and the Roman aristocracy.

Rome between the 1950’s and 1960’s was the fulcrum of the avant-garde. What memories do you have of those times?

At that time everybody tended to be part of a current. In 1955, for example, I remember that I met a member of the Sicilian family Samonà, then companion of Topazia Alliata Maraini, who was a sort of group leader for the Tiber Group movement, of which Mimmo Rotella was also a member. It was there that for the first time he exhibited his “decollage” and the exhibition that I saw, organized by Emilio Villa, was even set up on a boat.

Then there was the Rome New York Art Foundation, one of the most important contemporary art galleries, active for just four years in the heart of Isola Tiberina, beneath the rented apartment where I lived with my second wife, Judith Montagu.

Lo spazio era gestito da Frances Mc Cann, una fotografa e pittrice amica di Peggy Googenheim che si trasferì a Roma per amore del compositore Giacinto Scelsi ed ebbe la fortuna di conoscere ed affidarsi al grande critico Herbert Read, una sorta di nume tutelare che fece venire qui, per la prima volta in Italia, artisti come Jackson Pollock ed Henry Moore. L’assoluta novità di questo spazio è che non aveva una destinazione commerciale ma promozionale: non si trattava cioè di una galleria dove vendere quadri, ma di un luogo dove poter visionare le opere degli artisti ed eventualmente prenderle in affitto per un periodo limitato di tempo: un’idea davvero innovativa che però fu attaccata dalla stampa comunista, in quel periodo attivissima…

The space was managed by Frances Mc Cann, a photographer and painter, friend of Peggy Guggenheim, who moved to Rome for love of composer Giacinto Scelsi and she had the great good fortune to meet and come under the wing of the great critic Herbert Read, a sort of patron who, for the first time in Italy, had artists such as Pollock and Henry Moore come to Italy. The real novelty of this space was that it wasn’t used for commercial but only promotional purposes: that is it wasn’t a gallery where paintings were sold but a place where artists’ works could be seen and eventually rented for a limited period of time: a truly innovative idea that however was criticized by the communist press, quite active at that time…

La sua lunga permanenza sull’Isola Tiberina in un appartamento che veniva spesso celebrato sulle cronache mondane dei magazine, è stata anche l’occasione per ideare un ambizioso progetto, quello di un Museo dell’Isola Tiberina? Come andarono poi le cose?

L’idea mi è venuta negli anni Ottanta, quando ho saputo che l’Ospedale israelitico si sarebbe trasferito negli spazi della Magliana: tutto il palazzo Pierleoni Caetani sarebbe dovuto diventare un museo sulla storia dell’Isola, il centro della storia di Roma. In fondo era da qui che passava il grande commercio del sale e dove i mulini si attaccavano e facevano il grano per il pane di Roma senza considerare che la città era un punto di passaggio tra Lazio ed Etruria. L’intero edificio a quel tempo era di proprietà del Comune e le Istituzioni - tra cui anche il gran rabbino di Roma Toaff, Tullia Zevi e tutta l’élite della comunità ebraica - credettero nell’iniziativa al punto da diffonderne la notizia in tutta Roma. Era stato addirittura creato un centro di documentazione nella portineria del vecchio monastero (poi ospedale), che in seguito fu distrutto per lasciare spazio ad un accesso legittimo all’attuale ambulatorio israelitico. Purtroppo il progetto nella sua interezza è stato poi affondato da interessi immobiliari privati che non ho potuto fermare.

Was your lengthy stay on Isola Tiberina in an apartment which was often mentioned in articles in popular magazines also the opportunity to develop an ambitious project, that for a Museum Isola Tiberina? How did it all turn out?

I got the idea in the 1980’s, when I learned that the Israeli Hospital was to be transferred to the Magliana: the entire Palazzo Pierleoni Caetani was to become a museum dedicated to the history of the island, the center of the history of Rome. It was here in fact that salt traders met and made deals and where mills ground wheat for the flour to make bread for Rome, without considering that the city was a meeting point between Lazio and Etruria. The entire building at that time was owned by the City, and the institutions, including the Chief Rabbi of Rome Toaff, Tullia Zevi and all the élite of the Hebrew community, believed in the initiative to the extent that they spread the word throughout all of Rome. A center for the documentation was even created in the janitor’s lodge of the old monastery (later a hospital), which subsequently was demolished to make room for a legitimate access to the current Israeli medical offices. Unfortunately the project in its entirety was later sunk due to private real estate interests that I was not able to prevent.

Molti sono stati i riconoscimenti che le sono stati attribuiti per la sua attività e molte le esposizioni organizzate in Europa ed America. Quali saranno invece i prossimi progetti?

In autunno ci saranno alcune mie foto di Roma in una mostra documentaria organizzata dalla facoltà di Economia dell’Università Roma 3 sul Rione Trevi sui cambiamenti architettonici sulla città. A seguire, la Casa Italia dell’NYU ospiterà nella Grande Mela una selezione delle mie opere esposte lo scorso anno al Museo Bilotti.

E, nel 2015, una grande impresa: l’esibizione completa della collezione di opere della Roma New York Art Foundation, avendo io conservato l’intero archivio della Galleria, compreso di documenti scritti, fotografici e il Visitors’ Book da cui si potrà ricostruire chi ha frequentato questo importante luogo dell’arte contemporanea.

You have received many recognitions for your activities and many exhibitions have been organized in Europe and in America. What are your future projects?

In the fall some of my photographs will be on view in a documentary exhibit organized by the faculty of Economics of Università Roma 3 on the Rione Trevi and the architectural changes in the city. Thereafter, the Casa Italia at NYU in the Big Apple will show a selection of my works that were exhibited last year at the Bilotti Museum. And in 2015, a significant undertaking: the complete exhibition of the collection of works from the Roma New York Art Foundation, as I kept the entire archive of the Galleria, including written documents, photographs and the Visitors’ Book, which provides the names and dates of all those who frequented this important contemporary art showplace.

Roma continua dunque a fermentare nella mente di Gendel che, imbracciata la sua macchina digitale - in sostituzione della sua Leika e della Rolleiflex – è pronto per nuove esplorazioni cittadine, anche in un afoso pomeriggio di agosto. Un fotografo che ha fatto della sua realtà, densa e vissuta spesso a contatto con importanti personalità della cultura e dell’arte europea e internazionale, una delle possibili “visioni” alternative che risvegliano il sorriso e il compiacimento di uno sguardo vigile e affascinato dalle casualità.

Rome therefore continues to bubble in Gendel’s mind and, with digital camera in hand (in substitution of his Leika and the Rolleiflex) he’s ready for new city explorations, even on a muggy August afternoon. A photographer who has made his reality, dense and often lived in close contact with important members of European and international culture and art, one of the possible alternative “visions” that awaken a smile and the self-satisfaction of a vigilant glance, charmed by causality.

Grazie ad Eugenio La Rocca, Claudio Parisi Presicce, Annalisa Lo Monaco, Cécile Giroire, Daniel Roger ha preso forma una straordinaria mostra organizzata dall’Azienda Speciale Palaexpo - Scuderie del Quirinale e i Musei Capitolini di Roma, in collaborazione con la Réunion des musées nationaux - Grand Palais e il musée du Louvre di Parigi. Nata proprio per celebrare il bimillenario della morte del grande Augusto - il 19 agosto del 14 d.C - tale esposizione mette in luce le tappe della folgorante storia di un condottiero, di un uomo ed in parallelo la nascita di una nuova epoca storica.

Figlio adottivo e pronipote di Cesare, Augusto fu un personaggio dal carisma eccezionale e dallo straordinario intuito politico. Riuscì a porre fine ai sanguinosi decenni di lotte interne che avevano consumato la Repubblica romana e ad inaugurare una nuova stagione politica: l’Impero. Il suo principato, durato oltre quaranta anni, fu il più lungo che la storia di Roma abbia mai avuto, in cui raggiunse la sua massima espansione con un’estensione a tutto il bacino del Mediterraneo: dalla Spagna alla Turchia, dal Maghreb alla Grecia, alla Germania. I particolari della sua biografia e della sua folgorante carriera ci sono trasmessi da lui stesso e da numerosi storici - Velleio Patercolo Svetonio, Tacito, Cassio Dione. Sono veramente pochi gli imperatori romani per cui vi sia un così grande numero di fonti scritte. Così le tappe della sua carriera politica, nel corso della quale ricoprì tutte le più importanti cariche pubbliche, sono ben note e al tempo stesso rievocano la disastrosa serie di lutti familiari che toccarono l’Imperatore. Eppure la sua fu epoca di pace, prosperità e abbondanza: divennero allora centrali concetti quali pax, pietas, concordia, cantati da poeti del calibro di Virgilio e Orazio, e da quegli intellettuali radunati nel circolo cosiddetto di Mecenate. L’inedita mostra attraverso una selezione di opere di assoluto pregio artistico: circa 200 opere tra statue, ritratti, arredi domestici in bronzo, argento e vetro, gioielli in oro e pietre preziose, propone un percorso capace di intrecciare la vita e la carriera del princeps con il formarsi di una nuova cultura e di un nuovo linguaggio artistico, tuttora alla base della civiltà occidentale.

Adopted son and great-grandson of Caesar Augustus, he was a hero with exceptional charisma and extraordinary political intuition. He managed to put an end to decades of bloody infighting that had consumed the Roman Republic and usher in a new political season: the Empire.

His principality, which lasted more than forty years was the longest that the history of Rome ever had, which reached its peak with an extension to the whole Mediterranean basin from Spain to Turkey, from the Maghreb to Greece, to Germany. The details of his biography and his dazzling career are transmitted by himself and by many historians - Velleius Patercolo, Suetonius, Tacitus, Cassius. There are very few Roman emperors which have such a large number of written sources. So the stages of his political career, during which he held all the most important public offices, are well known and at the same time recalling the disastrous series of family deaths that touched the Emperor. So his was the era of peace, prosperity and abundance then became central concepts such as pax, piety, harmony, sung by poets such as Virgil and Horace, and those intellectuals gathered in the so-called circle of Maecenas. The unique exhibition with a selection of works of absolute artistic value around 200 works, statues, portraits, home furnishings in bronze, silver and glass, gold and precious stones, offers a course capable of combining the life and career of the princeps with the formation of a new culture and a new language of art, which is still the basis of Western civilization.

Fulcro visivo della mostra saranno le grandi statue di Augusto, riunite per la prima volta insieme. Proveniente da Atene e per la prima volta in Italia, sarà inoltre possibile ammirare parte della statua equestre in bronzo dell’imperatore restituita dal mar Egeo. Da Meroe in Egitto proviene lo splendido ritratto bronzeo del British Museum, Così come rilievi provengono dal noto Kunsthistorisches Museum di Vienna. Una nutrita congerie di opere d’arte evoca il fiorire dell’età dell’oro, due statue in arrivo dalla Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek di Copenhagen e molte altre da Roma e dal resto d’Italia. Gruppi scultorei espressione di una nuova classicità si affiancano a eccelsi documenti dell’arte decorativa in ambito urbano e in contesti privati: oltre agli arredi delle domus vesuviane e ai gioielli di corredo, una nutrita selezione dal preziosissimo tesoro degli argenti di Boscoreale, eccezionalmente prestato dal Museo del Louvre.

Nel contesto di una sottile e ponderatissima propaganda ideologica, vanno inserite le testimonianze numismatiche e della glittica: di straordinario pregio, vanno ricordati i preziosissimi cammei di Londra, Vienna e del Metropolitan di New York, magistrali rappresentazioni del potere delle immagini nel mondo antico, utilizzati in qualità di dono personale da parte dei membri della famiglia imperiale ad influenti personaggi della loro cerchia. Assume un valore centrale, in mostra, il tema della morte dell’imperatore e la sua conseguente apoteosi. I visitatori avranno occasione di ammirare davvero inedite ricostruzioni della storia di un mito.

Visual centerpiece of the exhibition will be the great statues of Augustus, brought together for the first time together. Hailing from Athens, and for the first time in Italy, you can also admire the bronze equestrian statue of the emperor returned from the Aegean Sea. In the context of a thin ideological propaganda, should be added to the testimonies numismatic and glyptic: of extraordinary merit, should be mentioned the precious cameos in London, Vienna, and the Metropolitan in New York, masterful representations of the power of images in the ancient world, used as a personal gift from the members of the imperial family to influential members of their circle. Assumes a central value, in the exhibition, the theme of the death of the emperor and his subsequent apotheosis. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire really unusual reconstructions of the history of a myth.
