Come rilanciare l’Italia Sono stati indicati dieci imprenditori italiani di primo piano, noti per le loro abilità innovative; è stato chiesto, a ognuno di loro, un concetto-base per guidare La Crescita Possibile. Lo riporta Giovanni Iozzia su EconomyUp.it.

Ecco, in ordine alfabetico, le dieci parole-chiave per rilanciare l’Italia, con i rispettivi autori: CORAGGIO. È la proposta di Oscar Farinetti (Eataly) che afferma: “Non c’è coraggio senza matematica: conoscere i numeri è fondamentale, perché sono l’indicatore più preciso dello stato delle cose”.

CREATIVITÀ. Dice Nerio Alessandri (Technogym) che “La vera nuova tecnologia che farà la differenza nella competizione internazionale sarà rappresentata dalla creatività delle persone”.

DIGITALE. Secondo Paolo Ainio (Banzai) “Il digitale è una frontiera di sviluppo che oggi abbiamo appena cominciato a comprendere e utilizzare”.

FUTURO. Dice Federico Marchetti (Yoox) che “I giovani sono la molla dello sviluppo e della crescita perché pensano più al futuro che a tirare i remi in barca ancorandosi con nostalgia al passato”.

INNOVAZIONE. Secondo Sergio Dompé (Farmaceutici) è “L’innovazione, nel nostro lavoro, non è un atto di eroismo né una scelta. È un bisogno assoluto”.

INTERNAZIONALIZZAZIONE. Secondo Remo Pedon: “Internazionalizzare non significa delocalizzare. Crescere all’estero, senza restringere le radici, è possibile grazie ad un preciso modello industriale”.

MADE IN ITALY. Afferma Brunello Cucinelli che “La mappa mondiale del lavoro e dei consumi sta cambiando. Per rinascere dobbiamo soprattutto restituire dignità morale ed economica al lavoro artigianale”.

OTTIMISMO. Dicono Federico Grom e Guido Martinetti (Gelaterie Grom) ai giovani italiani: “Alzatevi presto, e correte dietro all’unico sole che conta: il vostro talento”.

SOSTENIBILITÀ. Sostengono Gian Luca Sghedoni (Kerakoll) che “L’ecosostenibilità è una cultura d’impresa e una forte responsabilità nei confronti delle future generazioni. Il futuro si costruisce puntando sugli uomini e sulla natura”.

STARTUP. Dice infine Fabio Cannavale (Bravofly Rumbo Group) che “La startup è quella cosa in cui devi rimboccarti le maniche, fare tutto, lavorare senza orari”.

Questo è il decalogo che propongono dieci persone che hanno creato imprese di successo, in un momento in cui i successi scarseggiano.

Un’Italia che ha voglia di crescere esiste. E resiste.

A dispetto di una classe politica litigiosa e poco concludente.

HOW TO REVIVE ITALY Ten leading Italian entrepreneurs were identified, known for their innovative actions; each was asked to give a starting-point to guide Possible Growth.

Here, in alphabetical order, are the ten key words to revive Italy, with the respective authors: COURAGE. It’s the formula suggested by Oscar Farinetti (Eataly), who affirms: “There’s no courage without mathematics: knowing numbers is fundamental, because they’re the most precise indicator of the status of things”.

CREATIVITY. Nerio Alessandri (Technogym) says that “The real new technology that will make the difference in international competition will be represented by creativity”.

DIGITAL. According to Paolo Ainio (Banzai): “Digital is a development frontier that today we have only just begun to understand and utilize”.

FUTURE. Federico Marchetti (Yoox) states that “Young adults are the spring for development and growth because they’re thinking more about the future than about sitting still, anchoring themselves nostalgically to the past”.

INNOVATION. According to Sergio Dompé (Farmaceutici) “Innovation, in our field, isn’t an act of heroism nor is it a choice. It’s an absolute need”.

INTERNATIONALIZATION. According to Remo Pedon: “Internationalization doesn’t mean delocalization. Growing abroad, without restricting the roots, is possible thanks to a precise industrial model”.

MADE IN ITALY. Brunello Cucinelli states that “The world map of labor and consumption is changing. To be born again we most of all need to give moral and economic dignity back to craftsmen for their workmanship”.

OPTIMISM. Federico Grom and Guido Martinetti (Gelaterie Grom) tell young Italians: “Get up early, and run after the only sun that counts: your talent”.

STARTUP. Fabio Cannavale (Bravofly Rumbo Group) says that “A startup is that enterprise in which you need to roll up your sleeves, do everything, work without looking at the clock”.

SUSTAINABILITY. Gian Luca Sghedoni (Kerakoll) maintains that “Eco-sustainability is an entrepreneurial culture and a strong responsibility with respect to future generations. The future is built by counting on men and nature”.

These are the guidelines that these ten persons who have created successful enterprises suggest, at a time when successes are scarce.

An Italy that wants to grow exists. And it resists. Despite contentious and slow-moving politicians.

Una donna misteriosa e affascinante, con indosso abiti lussuosi e haute couture, avvolta dalla storia che solo una villa immersa nella Roma Antica può raccontare, incontra un uomo soggiogato dalla sua bellezza. Protagonisti di una storia senza tempo e del redazionale moda di questo numero di Luxury Files sono gli splendidi attori Daniela Virgilio e Giorgio Marchesi.

La giovane attrice nota al grande pubblico per aver interpretato Patrizia, la femme fatale che tiene testa al Dandi della Banda della Magliana, nella serie tv Romanzo Daniela Virgilio e Giorgio Marchesi.

Criminale, all’esperienza televisiva affianca quella cinematografica.

Il gusto retrò degli abiti, la particolare lunghezza delle gonne utilizzate e l’hairstyling di quegli anni si riflettono nel servizio fotografico in queste pagine.

A sort of female factory, in which Lucia is dedicated to the design and production of jewel and Coralla to the creation of her works, including videos, paintings, objets d'art.

Extraordinary collections have taken shape as real jewels-dress made of lightweight aluminum mesh. Fluid jewels as soft dress, claiming a leading role and not a mere accessory.

COACHING BY ENRICO COGNO / SEMPLIFICARE SENZA IMPOVERIRE Abbiamo bisogno, in questo momento, di chiarezza e semplificazione e invece, mai come ora, si assiste a un diluvio di comunicazione inutile, in politica, nella scuola, in televisione, ovunque. Mai si è vista tanta contrapposizione e tanto antagonismo gratuito. Se si potessero tassare, con un centesimo di euro, le parole inutili, avremmo risolto largamente il disavanzo economico per tutto il secolo che stiamo vivendo.

Le parole inutili, e quindi dannose, sono quelle usate per mostrare superiorità e competenza, come quelle in uso nei gerghi professionali. Chiariamo: è evidente che i linguaggi tecnici (legali, medici, informatici ecc.) sono insopprimibili ma dovrebbero essere usati solo quando si ha la certezza che possano essere compresi da tutti.

Il gergo (come accade nei linguaggi tribali) è il derivato di una forma di comunicazione difensiva: nelle antiche consorterie e nelle corporazioni è stato necessario usare, per secoli, codici criptici quale forma di protezione da ingerenze esterne. È innegabile che, oggi, il gergo professionale ha modificato questa originaria natura protettiva e viene quasi sempre usato per praticità, a volte però solo per consuetudine. Tra persone dello stesso settore consente più sintesi, dimostra competenza e protegge dalla paura di apparire inadeguati. In qualche caso, come nella prosa legale, medica o in quella informatica, non se ne può fare a meno, anzi, è un elemento di status che viene spesso ostentato. È sufficiente osservare un gruppo di manager in una riunione aziendale per rendersene conto: le loro frasi sono zeppe di Cliccare, Chattare, Implementare, Schedulare, Downlodare, Briffare, Fowardare, Matchare, Pickuppare e In-puttare. E ne sono fieri.

Ogni gergo ha però molti svantaggi: impedisce a chi è estraneo al gruppo professionale di comprendere il messaggio e quasi mai, questi osa farlo notare, poiché si sente “in colpa” di non padroneggiare quel linguaggio che mostra competenza e sicurezza.

Purtroppo per primo lo Stato non offre il buon esempio: le leggi sono spesso scritte senza pensare a chi le deve applicare, vale a dire tutti, in quanto sono redatte e manipolate principalmente da specifici professionisti. Chi non capisce è perduto. Per non perdersi deve farsi aiutare e, spesso, farsi aiutare costa. È uno dei tanti soprusi che subiamo, perché la legge non ammette l’ignoranza. Vi è ancora molto da fare sulla strada del semplificare senza impoverire.

SIMPLIFY WITHOUT IMPOVERISHING At this point in time, we need clarity and simplification while instead, as never before, we are deluged with useless communications, in politics, in schools, on television, everywhere. There has never been such contrast and so much gratuitous antagonism. If only we could tax the useless words with just one single cent (of a Euro), we would easily be able to reduce the public spending debt for the rest of this century.

Useless, and consequently harmful, words are those used to demonstrate superiority and competence, such as those used in professional jargon. Let me be clear: it’s obvious that technical languages (legal, medical, computer technology, etc.) cannot be suppressed but they should be used only when one is certain that they can be understood by all.

Jargon (as occurs in tribal languages) derives from a form of defensive communication: for centuries in ancient leagues and guilds the use of cryptic code as a form of protection against external forces was necessary. It cannot be denied that, today, professional jargon has modified this original protective nature and it is almost always used for practical purposes, often however only as a habit. Amongst persons from the same sector this facilitates synthesis, it shows competence and safeguards from the fear of appearing inadequate.

In some cases, as in legal, medical or computer technology prose, it is impossible to do without it, on the contrary, it’s a status symbol that is often flaunted. All you need do is observe a group of managers in a company meeting to see it: their phrases are full of click, chat, implement, schedule, download, brief, forward, match, pick-up and in-put.

And they’re so proud of their language.

However, each jargon has many disadvantages: it prevents those who are outside the professional group from understanding the message and these same outsiders almost never dare to speak up, because they feel “guilty” of not commanding that language that demonstrates competence and certainty.

Unfortunately, Government is the first to not set a good example: laws are often written without thinking about who must apply them, that is everyone, inasmuch as they are written and manipulated principally by specific professionals. Those who don’t understand are lost. And in order not to be lost, they have to get help and, quite often, getting help can be costly. It’s one of the many abuses that we endure, because the law does not allow for ignorance. There is much that sill remains to be done on the road to simplify without impoverishing.

C’era una volta il lusso ostentato, appariscente e plateale.

Da esibire a tutti i costi, con il logo a caratteri cubitali in bella vista. Un bel giorno poi ha deciso di spogliarsi dell'opulenza e dello sfarzo, diventando qualcosa di più sobrio ed essenziale. Capace anche di restituire un sapore di autenticità e purezza. È un lusso senza orpelli, quello attuale. Non più legato al possesso di beni tangibili ma piuttosto a momenti da vivere. I suoi consumatori desiderano soprattutto discrezione, intimità e accesso limitato a certe esperienze. Esperienze in grado di suscitare emozioni, accendere desideri e regalare attimi di isolamento dalla quotidianità.

Che cos'è allora, in questi tempi così precari e incerti, il lusso? Per qualcuno è sinonimo di creatività e design. Per altri significa soprattutto legame con la tradizione e valore delle origini. Per il filosofo Thierry Paquot il vero lusso è armonia, raccoglimento e intimità. È, anche e soprattutto, fare quel che si vuole quando si vuole. “Il lusso – scrive Paquot nel suo “Elogio del lusso”– richiede non soltanto un’approfondita conoscenza di se stessi, ma anche il dominio di sé, in modo che possiamo continuare a provare desiderio, attesa e piacere. Un ciclo gaudente ininterrotto che non si fonda per forza sul circuito monetarizzato dei beni e dei servizi. Da questo punto di vista si pone al di fuori del mercato”.

Once upon a time luxury was ostentatious, showy and theatrical. To be exhibited at all costs, with large-size printed logos plainly in sight. One fine day it decided to strip itself of the opulence and pomp, becoming something more sober and essential. Capable, in fact, of bringing back a taste of authenticity and purity. What we see today is luxury without frills. No longer linked to the possession of tangible goods but rather to moments in time to be lived. Luxury consumers primarily seek discretion, intimacy and limited access to certain experiences.

Experiences that touch the soul, that light up desires and that offer precious moments of isolation from the daily routine.

What, then, in these uncertain and precarious times, is luxury? For some its synonymous of creativity and design. For others it is primarily a link with tradition and the values of the origins. According to philosopher Thierry Paquot, real luxury is harmony, concentration and intimacy. But most of all it is doing what one wants when one wants. “Luxury – writes Paquot in his “Praise of luxury”– not only requires a thorough knowledge of oneself but also self-control, so that we can continue to feel desire, expectation and pleasure. An uninterrupted pleasure seeking cycle that is not necessarily based on the monetary circuit of goods and services. From this point of view it places itself outside the market”.

Si assiste a un passaggio dall’etica del “voglio tutto” a un consumo più equilibrato, consapevole e personale. Ecco allora che acquistare beni, anche e soprattutto di lusso, non significa abbandonarsi al desiderio e allo shopping sfrenato. Al contrario implica la capacità di scegliere e attribuire valore. Il nuovo trend è all’insegna del less is more: un lusso più misurato che privilegia il comfort prima dell'estetica. Un approccio nuovo dove l’eleganza è sempre di più minimalismo, pulizia delle line e personalizzazione. Qualcuno parla di slow fashion. Vale a dire un lusso meno frivolo, che guarda lontano. Sempre più attento a temi socialmente importanti. Si nota una sensibilità elevata da parte della clientela per l’ambiente, la solidarietà e la cultura che sono diventati valori aggiunti per le griffes. Ed è proprio per dare un’immagine di lusso etico e sostenibile che tanti sforzi vengono investiti nella creazione di campagne che mettono in risalto l’impegno sociale delle marche. Un asset divenuto imprescindibile che porta il lusso lontano anni-luce da quella “vana superfluità” di cui parlava Werner Sombart ai primi del Novecento. Ora le marche del lusso si scelgono per i valori che trasmettono, non solo per le qualità del prodotto. Che poi non è neppure un prodotto, ma un oggetto con un alto valore simbolico. Che ci consente di comunicare, dire di noi, stringere legami. Spendere, ma spendere bene, è un lusso che il consumatore di oggi può e deve concedersi.

Thanks to his ItalianAmerican origins, he’s also a bit of an Italian pride. He returns to the silver screen with The Grudge Match (distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures) and he can certainly be called a legend in his time, awarded with two Oscar Awards: we’re talking about Robert De Niro.

Siamo giunti alla sua 24esima edizione, come ogni inizio d'anno il SIHH di Ginevra presenta ai professionisti del settore le nuove tendenze dell'alta orologeria.

Un evento esclusivo che segna l'inizio di ogni anno 'orologiero', dove 16 Maison dell'alta orologeria mostrano tutto il loro antico e profondo expertise tecnico e l'elevata artigianalità ma anche la loro continua ricerca ed innovazione.

Vi anticipiamo, dunque, alcune delle attese novità presentate dal 20 al 24 Gennaio al Palaexpo di Ginevra.

WHILE WAITING FOR GENEVA Here are some of the latest details from SIHH, the well-known international exhibition of fine watches in Geneva that opens in January 2014 with new details and a positive spirit for the sector.

As at the beginning of each year, the 24th edition of the SIHH of Geneva presents the new trends in fine watches to professionals in the sector.

An exclusive event that marks the beginning of each “watch” year, in which 16 manufacturers of fine watches demonstrate all their time-tested and profound technical expertise and high level of craftsmanship but also their never-ending search for perfection and innovation.

Here, then, are some of the new details presented at the Palaexpo in Geneva from January 20-24th.

Cartier Una delle novità assolute di Cartier è l'introduzione di un modello subacqueo: il Calibre de Cartier Diver. Cassa di 42 millimetri in acciaio spazzolato, disponibile con bracciale in oro 18 carati o cinturino in caucciù e acciaio. Anche se l'orologio è impermeabile fino a 1.000 metri, è stato testato fino a 1.250 metri, è il subacqueo più sottile sul mercato ad oggi. Il quadrante è nero con numeri bianchi a contrasto , mentre l'apertura del datario rimanda al cockpit di un aereo.

One of the absolute novelties Cartier presented by is a diver model: the Calibre de Cartier Diver. 42 millimeter case in brushed steel, available in 18-karat gold bracelet or strap in rubber and steel. Although the watch is waterproof up to 1,000 meters, it was tested to 1,250 meters; it’s the thinnest diver on the market today. The face is black with white contrasting numerals, while the opening of the day-date calls to mind the cockpit of an airplane.

Baume & Mercier Anche Baume & Mercier strizza l'occhio al passato con i Clifton Chronographs partendo dai propri segnatempo degli anni'50. Così ripropone il design essenziale del modello Clifton con le anse curve che, partendo dalla carrure seguono sinuosamente il polso. Per il 2014 vengono presentati 3 nuovi modelli che montano lo stesso movimento meccanico a carica automatica, il calibro ETA Valjoux 7750 - visibile dal fondello in vetro zaffiro con massa oscillante decorata a “Côtes de Genève”. La cassa di 43 mm di diametro è in acciaio lucido con finitura satinata. Presentati nella versione con cinturino in alligatore nero o marrone opppure in versione braccialata in acciaio. E in base alla diversa referenza hanno lancette azzurrate o in oro. Il quadrante, argentato con decorazione soleil, mostra i contatori Tricompax (secondi continui alle 9, 30 minuti crono alle 12 ore e 12 ore alle 6) e, alle 3, la doppia finestrella rettangolare con datario.

Thus, we see the essential design of the Clifton model with the curved straps which, starting from the middle, sinuously wrap around the wrist. For 2014 three new models are presented which carry the same automatic winding movement mechanism, the caliber ETA Valjoux 7750 - visible from the bottom in sapphire glass - with oscillating mass decorated “Côtes de Genève”. The 43 mm diameter case is in shiny steel with a satin finish. Presented in the version with black or brown alligator strap or with a steel bracelet. Gli incursori della Marina Militare Italiana dovevano contemporaneamente indossare al polso l’orologio, indispensabile per sincronizzare le loro imprese ma anche la bussola e il profondimetro. Alcuni per maggiore comodità d’uso sceglievano di indossare l’orologio sul polso destro, e per loro l’Orologeria Panerai di Firenze creò dei segnatempo con la corona di carica sul lato sinistro, come testimoniano ancora oggi alcuni rari esemplari. Questo nuovo modello Luminor 1950 Left-Handed 3 Days presenta un dettaglio unico; la carrure ha un profilo a cuspide, che evoca le forme di una cassa a cuscino. Questo piccolo dettaglio, racconta la trasformazione del Radiomir creato nel 1936 con una classica cassa a cuscino, nel Luminor, più massiccio nelle proporzioni e contraddistinto dal dispositivo di protezione della corona. Il 3 days monta un movimento meccanico a carica manuale interamente realizzato da Panerai. Cassa in acciaio di 47 mm di diametro e uno spessore di 5,3mm, 21.600 alternanze/ora, dispositivo antiurto Incabloc e riserva di carica di 3 giorni. For 2014 Panerai presents Luminor 1950 Left-Handed 3 Days. Everyone know that left-handed watches are an integral part of Panerai’s dna. Seamen of the Italian Navy had to wear on the wrists, at the same time, their watch (indispensable for their missions) but also a compass and a depth meter. To facilitate matters, some decided to wear their watches on their right wrist, and it is for them that Panerai in Firenze created timepieces with the winding crown on the left side, as still seen today on certain rare examples. This new model Luminor 1950 Left-Handed 3 Days presents a unique detail: the middle has a crown profile, which calls to mind the shape of a pillow case. Un gioiello di architettura nel cuore della Roma Antica

Percorrere la via Appia Antica vuol dire immergersi in un’atmosfera eterea e senza tempo, in cui le vestigia antiche che si offrono al visitatore e la pace agreste che si respira nutrono l’anima e appagano la vista.

Leaving the archeological site behind and going further into the private park of the 19th century Villa Quintili, one is pleasantly welcomed by the Roman pines, by the hedges and by the glorious fountains, in a true oasis of peace, in which one can enjoy to the fullest the beauty of the countryside and the ancient vestiges adjacent to the la villa, that rise majestically and that seem to blend harmoniously with the park.

E molto stretto è il legame della Villa Quintili con l’antico sito, non solo per il medesimo nome e per la vicinanza logistica, ma anche per quel sottile filo conduttore che unisce il presente con il passato, la villa attuale con la storia della città, e che fa della Villa Quintili un luogo dal fascino indiscutibile.

Edificata dal principe Mario del Drago su disegno di Michele Busiri Vici, fu pensata come luogo di rappresentanza.

I ricevimenti del Principe del Drago, infatti, erano tra i più esclusivi ed eleganti dell’epoca e, per rendere la villa funzionale ad ospitare gli importanti eventi mondani del principe, Busiri Vici progettò una casa in cui i suoi invitati, dalle varie sale, avessero la piacevole ed accogliente percezione di vivere l’incontro in un unico spazio: tutto confluisce verso il centro, in un vero e proprio capolavoro di architettura.

La struttura, è ingentilita e arricchita dalle linee delle arcate e dal suggestivo patio interno, vagamente spagnoleggiante, omaggio del progettista agli stretti legami di parentela dei del Drago con i reali di Spagna.

Alla fine degli anni ’70, la nuova proprietà, si avvalse della collaborazione dell’arredatore Marco Gobbi, e la casa venne ulteriormente impreziosita in armonia con l'ambiente circostante. L'arredamento della villa è ispirato a Roma, alle sue architetture e alla sua storia, con quadri ottocenteschi delle sue rovine, marmi e bronzi di periodo neoclassico.

Le lampade e le collezioni di vetri sono di epoca decó, tra questi, degni di nota, i meravigliosi lampadari della sala da pranzo. Il pavimento, in cotto artigianale fiorentino, è impreziosito da grandi riquadri in marmo giallo di Siena.

And the bond between the Villa Quintili and the ancient site is very close, not only due to the same name and for their nearness, but also due to that subtle bond that links the present with the past, the current villa with the history of the city, and which makes Villa Quintili an undeniably fascinating place.

Built by Prince Mario del Drago and designed by Michele Busiri Vici, it was conceived as a showplace.

In fact, the parties that Prince del Drago threw were amongst the most exclusive and elegant of their time, and in order to render the villa suitable for the important social events sponsored by the prince, Busiri Vici designed a home in which the guests, from the various rooms, had the pleasant and enjoyable sensation of living the encounter in a single space: the eye is drawn towards the center, in a true masterpiece of architectural design. The structure is harmonized and enriched by the lines of the arches and by the charming, vaguely Spanish, internal patio, the designer’s way of commemorating the close family ties of the del Drago family with the Spanish royal family.

At the end of the 1970’s the new owners availed themselves of the collaboration of interior designer Marco Gobbi, and the house was further enriched in harmony with the surrounding ambience. The furnishings in the villa are inspired by Rome, its architecture and its history, with 18th century paintings of its ruins, marble and bronze statues of the neo-classical period.

The lamps and the glass collections are from the Belle Epoque period; particularly noteworthy are the stupendous chandeliers in the dining room. The floor is paved with hand-made Florentine tiles and is further enriched by large square inserts in yellow Siena marble.

CINEMA

Le più belle colonne sonore della nostra produzione si fanno conoscere in tutto il mondo tramite un ambizioso progetto sinfonico multimediale ideato da Marco Patrignani, titolare dello storico Forum Music Village.

Sono passati 20 anni dalla scomparsa di uno dei più grandi maestri del cinema italiano, Federico Fellini, e - tra le manifestazioni a lui dedicate - brilla un progetto alquanto originale, da poco approdato all’Auditorium della UCLA di Los Angeles e già presentato in Italia dapprima a Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna - paese natio di uno dei suoi più grandi collaboratori, Tonino Guerra - e poi a Torino, nell’ambito del festival MiTo. Si tratta del concerto sinfonico multimediale Beyond La Dolce Vita con cui l’Orchestra Italiana del Cinema ha ripercorso, in immagini e musica, la strettissima collaborazione, umana ed artistica, tra il cineasta riminese e la sua Musa musicale, Nino Rota.

Il progetto di riproporre, per un’orchestra dai 40 agli 80 elementi, le partiture originali di un pezzo di storia italiana accompagnandole alla proiezione di contenuti visuali - tra cui spezzoni di film, disegni, fotografie ed animazioni grafiche - è un concept che caratterizza proprio questa prestigiosa compagine musicale, nata da un’idea di Marco Patrignani, e che è stato elaborato in forme variate in altre straordinarie cornici internazionali.

ORCHESTRA ITALIANA DEL CINEMA The best soundtracks from our movies are being listened to all over the world thanks to an ambitious multimedia symphonic project developed by Marco Patrignani, owner of the renowned Forum Music Village It’s been 20 years since the death of one of the greatest names in Italian cinema, Federico Fellini. Of the many events dedicated to him, one in particular shines out for its originality. Its debut was at the UCLA Los Angeles Auditorium and it has already been presented here in Italy, initially in Sant’Arcangelo di Romagna (birthplace of one of his most faithful collaborators, Tonino Guerra)

and then in Turin, in the context of the MiTo Festival.

The work in question is the multimedia symphonic concert Beyond La Dolce Vita with which Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, through images and music, evoked the close collaboration, both human and artistic, between the director from Rimini and his musical muse, Nino Rota.

For an orchestra of 40 to 80 musicians, the project to play the original score of a piece of Italian history accompanying it with visual contents (including clips from movies, designs, photographs and graphic animation) is a concept that distinguishes this prestigious musical group, born of an idea by Marco Patrignani, and which has been elaborated in various forms in other extraordinary international scenarios.

Dal Beijing International Film Festival del 2011 dove, dove sotto la direzione del Maestro Nicola Piovani, l’orchestra ha interpretato i suoni di Cinematology in un doppio concerto all’interno di The Great Hall of The People di Piazza Tiananmen, fino ai due appuntamenti con il festival di Ravello (2012 e 2013), in cui i progetti dedicati rispettivamente all’interpretazione sonora dal vivo di The Artist diretto da Ernst van Tiel (special guest il compositore Premio Oscar Ludovic Bource) e de La Febbre dell’Oro di Charlie Chaplin con la conduzione musicale di Timothy Brock, hanno fatto brillare il Belvedere di Villa Rufolo di emozioni visive ma soprattutto sonore.

Il fondatore e creatore di questa originale pianificazione protesa ad esportare in tutto il mondo l’eccellenza musicale del Made in Italy è, non a caso, figlio d’Arte, in quanto erede e titolare di uno dei più importanti studi di registrazione, il Forum Music Village di Roma. All’interno di esso sono state eseguite ed immortalate su disco alcune delle colonne sonore più celebri: basti pensare ai film Il postino e La vita è bella ma anche a tutta la produzione cinematografica di Ennio Morricone. Fondato nel 1970, con il nome di Ortophonic recording studio, da Armando Trovajoli, Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov e Piero Piccioni unitamente allo studio manager e produttore Enrico De Melis, la sala ha visto passare registi e compositori del calibro di Fellini, Sergio Leone, Leonard Bernstein, Brian De Palma, Oliver Stone, Bill Conti, Vangelis, Riz Ortolani, Gianni Ferrio, Nanni Moretti, Franco Zeffirelli, Mario Monicelli, Ettore Scola e molti, molti altri, consentendo, all’interno dello storico Studio A, registrazioni fino a 100 professori d’orchestra. È all’interno di questa sede che Marco Patrignani ha pensato di costruire un suo sogno che desse non solo concretezza alle proprie aspirazioni, ma lustro ad una progettualità che al contempo permettesse di far lavorare giovani musicisti e far conoscere un incommensurabile repertorio che ci appartiene.

From the 2011 Beijing International Film Festival, under the direction of Maestro Nicola Piovani, the Orchestra interpreted the sounds of Cinematology in a double concert in The Great Hall of The People of Tiananmen Square, to the two dates with the Ravello Festival (2012 and 2013), in which the projects dedicated respectively to the live audio interpretation of The Artist directed by Ernst van Tiel (special guest Oscar Award composer Ludovic Bource) and The Gold Rush by Charlie Chaplin, music conducted by Timothy Brock, which lit up the Belvedere di Villa Rufolo with visible but primarily audio emotions.

The founder and creator of this original plan aimed at exporting the musical excellence of Made in Italy all over the world is, not by chance, one who was born in a trunk, inasmuch as he is the heir and owner of one of the most important recording studios, the Forum Music Village in Rome. In that recording studio some of the most famous music scores were played and recorded for all eternity: just think of movies such as The Postman and Life is Beautiful but also all of the cinema productions by Ennio Morricone. Founded in 1970 with the name Ortophonic Recording Studio, by Armando Trovajoli, Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov and Piero Piccioni, together with studio manager and producer Enrico De Melis, the studio has seen the likes of noteworthy directors and composers such as Fellini, Sergio Leone, Leonard Bernstein, Brian De Palma, Oliver Stone, Bill Conti, Vangelis, Riz Ortolani, Gianni Ferrio, Nanni Moretti, Franco Zeffirelli, Mario Monicelli, Ettore Scola and many, many others. Inside the famous Studio A, recordings are made with up to 100 musicians. And it’s here that Marco Patrignani had the idea of building one of his dreams that would not only give form and shape to his aspirations but luster to a project that would enable young musicians to work and to share and make known the incalculable repertoire that is our heritage.

Da dove nasce questa idea?

Questo progetto - spiega Patrignani - nasce dopo moltissimi anni di gestazione durante i quali abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di rilevare importanti problematiche: una delle principali è quella dell’emigrazione di tanti talenti e capitali verso il low cost dei paesi dell’Est. Questo ha creato notevoli danni al nostro patrimonio culturale, ma ancor di più ai giovani musicisti che dopo moltissimi anni di studio si trovano ad avere oggettive difficoltà occupazionali. Abbiamo pensato dunque ad una sfida artistica che potesse coinvolgere particolarmente i giovani mettendoli a confronto con dei grandi professionisti, dei senior a loro dedicati, per creare una nuova realtà musicale.

Qual è stato il criterio di valutazione di questo determinato repertorio musicale?

Volevamo andare a colmare con grande determinazione il vuoto lasciato dall’assenza di una formazione specializzata nel repertorio di musica da film e, per questo, ci siamo posti come obiettivo la promozione e la rappresentazione dello straordinario patrimonio artistico della colonna sonora italiana. Scopo della Fondazione intitolata all’omonima Orchestra è anche quello di recuperare e restaurare le partiture dei capolavori del grande schermo grazie alla collaborazione con Enti, Associazioni, Fondazioni ed Archivi pubblici e privati, oltreché autorevoli maestri trascrittori.

Where did you get this idea?

This project - explained Patrignani - took shape after many years of thought, during which we were able to identify important problems: one of the main ones was that of so many talented people and capital emigrating towards the low cost of the Orient. This was very harmful for our cultural heritage but even more so for the young musicians who after many years of study faced objective difficulties in finding work. Consequently, we thought about an artistic challenge that would especially involve the young musicians, putting them in a position to interact with well-known professionals, seniors at their disposition as it were, to create a new musical reality.

What was the evaluation criteria for the musical repertoire in question?

We very much wanted to close the gap left by the absence of specialized training in the repertoire of music from films and, to this end, we decided on the objective of promoting and representing the extraordinary artistic heritage of Italian sound tracks. The purpose of the Foundation named after the Orchestra is also that of recuperating and restoring the scores of the masterpieces of the silver screen, also thanks to the collaboration with public and private agencies, associations, foundations and archives, as well as the Maestri composers themselves.

Quando è stato il vostro esordio?

Una magnifica occasione proprio nella città che ci ha battezzato, Roma. In Piazza del Campidoglio, nell’oramai lontano 2010, l’Orchestra ha debuttato in formazione sinfonica e coro, con un concerto multimediale dal titolo Il Suono del Neorealismo, diretto da Daniele Belardinelli, attuale conductor dell’Orchestra. Sono state in tale contesto eseguite alcune tra le più significative pagine musicali del cinema neorealista italiano in sincrono con la proiezione di prezioso materiale storico fotografico di scena, gentilmente messo a disposizione del Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia/Cineteca Nazionale. Siamo molto onorati che in questa, come in altre occorrenze, gli eventi sono stati gratificati dal riconoscimento dell’Alto Patronato del Presidente della Repubblica, con il contributo e il patrocinio del Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali. A proposito di questo, nell’ambito dell’Anno italiano della Cultura Italia/Stati Uniti 2013, l’Orchestra ne ha interpretato la colonna sonora ufficiale, Allegretto made in Italy, composizione inedita firmata dal Maestro Nicola Piovani e realizzata in un video diffuso a livello internazionale.

Che cosa augura all’Orchestra Italiana del Cinema nel 2014?

Siamo felici di avere appena ottenuto a Milano un ambito riconoscimento in ambito culturale, la Guirlande D’honneur 2013: si tratta della più alta onorificenza della FICTS (Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs, a cui aderiscono 113 Nazioni), riservata a quei personaggi della cultura, del cinema e della TV che si sono distinti in una significativa azione di promozione dei valori culturali ed etici.

Crediamo fermamente che in questo particolare momento storico sia fondamentale lavorare per rappresentare un esempio di eccellenza italiana nel mondo e questo è quello che con grande determinazione continueremo a fare nel nuovo anno, augurandoci che l’Orchestra Italiana del Cinema continui ad essere accolta all’estero con lo stesso entusiasmo e curiosità dimostrati negli ultimi anni da pubblico, critica ed operatori del settore.

When and where was your debut?

A magnificent occasion in the city that baptized us, Rome. In Piazza del Campidoglio, way back in 2010, the Orchestra debuted in symphonic format with chorus, in a multimedia concert entitled Il Suono del Neorealismo, directed by Daniele Belardinelli, current conductor of the Orchestra.

Some of the most significant pages in music from the Italian neo-realism cinema were executed at the same time as precious photographic material was projected, courteously placed at our disposition by the Experimental Center for Cinematography/National Cineteca. We were honored that this event, as on other occasions, was gratified by the recognition of the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, with the contribution and patronage of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities. In this respect, in the context of the 2013 Italian Year of Italian/American Culture, the Orchestra performed the official sound track, Allegretto made in Italy, a previously unpublished work by Maestro Nicola Piovani and realized in a video that was distributed on an international level.

What do you wish for the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema in 2014?

We are happy to have obtained a prestigious recognition in Milan in a cultural context, the Guirlande D’honneur 2013: this is the highest distinction from the FICTS (Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs, to which 113 nations adhere), reserved to those personages from the world of culture, cinema and TV who distinguish themselves in a significant promotion of cultural and ethical values.

We firmly believe that in this particular historical point in time it is fundamental to work to represent an example of Italian excellence in the world and this is what with great determination we will continue to do in the new year, with the hope that the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema continues to be welcomed abroad with the same enthusiasm and curiosity demonstrated in recent years by the public, critics and operators in the field.
