COSA TI VIENE IN MENTE SE DICO “LUSSO”?

Ho provato a fare questa domanda a un po’ di persone, in diversi ambienti, molto differenziati tra loro. Una gran parte di risposte era del genere: “Ma ti sembra il caso anche solo di parlarne, in questo momento?”.

Una grande parte di risposte era invece piuttosto simile a quello che nell’editoriale dello scorso numero cercavo di sostenere. Dicevo che “lusso” significa eccellenza e questa, nel nostro caso, è il frutto della genialità degli italiani, della loro creatività, di tutto ciò che produce qualità. Quindi, non ostentazione, ma innovazione, ricerca e lavoro fatto a regola d’arte. Tutto ciò, in sostanza, che premia l’attività di molte aziende del Made in Italy, le poche che in questo periodo difficile operano con successo dirigendo la loro produzione verso l’estero, essendosi così contratta la domanda interna.

La globalizzazione sta mostrando con forza i suoi effetti: un intensificato scambio di risorse, umane e materiali, dovuto all’abbattimento degli ostacoli e all’abolizione delle barriere, tipiche della New Economy. Il risultato è la rivoluzione del concetto di competizione e soprattutto un sommovimento d’incredibile potenza nel campo delle tecnologie.

Molto maggiori sono le possibilità di operare contemporaneamente in più mercati, com’è dimostrato dall’azione di molte medio-piccole imprese che, oltre ai tradizionali mercati nordamericani ed europei, oggi operano nell’Est Europeo nei Paesi del Mediterraneo, in Medio ed Estremo Oriente.

Ma la speculazione finanziaria mostra la seconda faccia della medaglia: l’oscillazione delle borse e l’inaffidabilità dei mercati, spesso dovuta a un inesistente senso etico e a un comportamento improntato a egoismi nazionalistici che frenano gli equilibri e lo sviluppo.

Si era più volte parlato di terremoto finanziario sino a che la terra non si è mossa non solo in senso metaforico, ma reale, ed ha colpito una regione che più di altre è la dimostrazione di quella qualità, di quell’eccellenza, di quell’innovazione di cui si parlava. Ma, assieme al dolore nell’assistere al lutto delle vittime e vedere straziati quei piccoli paesi per le continue scosse, ha più di tutto colpito lo spirito con il quale la popolazione dell’Emilia Romagna ha reagito. Un grande esempio per tutti.

WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN I SAY “LUXURY”?

I asked this question a few people, in several different environments. The majority of responses were like this:”Do you think it’s appropriate to even talk about this, at this time?”.

On the other hand, a large part of the answers were rather similar to the last issue’s editorial I was trying to support. I asserted that “luxury” means excellence, and, in our case, this comes from Italians’ genius and creativity, in other words from all that produces quality. Therefore, “luxury” is intended not in the sense of ostentation, but rather as innovation, research and work by the rule book. In conclusion, we mean everything that recompenses the Made in Italy activities of many companies, the few that are successful directing their production abroad, as the domestic demand drastically decreased, in these difficult times.

Globalization is energetically showing its effects: an intensified exchange of resources, both human and material, due to obstacles dismantling and barriers removal, typical of the New Economy. The result is the revolution of the concept of competition, and, above all, an incredible powerful upheaval in the technology field.

There are much more possibilities to operate simultaneously in multiple markets, as demonstrated by the action of several small and medium enterprises now operating in Eastern European countries, in the Mediterranean area and in the Middle and Far East, in addition to the established North American and European markets.

However financial speculation shows the other side of the coin: the stock exchange oscillation and the unreliability of markets, often due to a nonexistent sense of ethics together with a behavior based on internal opportunism, is affecting balances and developments.

People had been talking about a financial uproar for some time, until the earth has not moved not only in a metaphorical sense, but real, and struck an Italian region that, more than others, is the proof of that quality, excellence and innovation which we are talking about. Though, along with the sorrow in witnessing the mourning for the victims and see those little villages torn apart by the continued earth tremors, most of all has impressed the spirit in which the population of Emilia Romagna has reacted. A great example for everyone.

FROM DUSK UNTIL DAWN The famous photographer Mario Guerra and HTC, leader in the mobile phone world, have launched a photo campaign titled "My Life ... From Dusk Until Dawn ". The project started with the aim to discover the hidden side of Italy, through the use of the smartphone, going to capture images that show the appeal of the hours between sunset and sunrise, when the low light makes the world more magic. LUXURY NEWS BOOKS / ANCHE IL LUSSO HA UN’ANIMA C'è qualcosa oltre il lusso. Parte da qui l'interessante saggio, dedicato all'interpretazione dell'eccellenza, di Manfredi Ricca e Rebecca Robins: Meta-luxury: Brands and the Culture of Excellence, appena pubblicato da Macmillan.

Che cosa accomuna il lusso nelle sue manifestazioni empiriche? Per rispondere a questa domanda, gli autori, entrambi director della società di brand consultancy Interbrand, attingono alla dottrina e al lessico della metafisica aristotelica e individuano quattro categorie sottese al paradigma di meta-lusso: quando Artigianalità, Focus, Storia e Rarità si combinano, danno vita a una manifestazione concreta di lusso autentico. Il meta-lusso è cultura dell’eccellenza, l’unica in grado di sopravvivere nel tempo, di tramandarsi di generazione in generazione, di resistere a recessione e crisi.

To answer this question, the authors, which are the brand consultancy Interbrand's directors, draw from the doctrine and the vocabulary of the Aristotelian metaphysics and identify four categories underlying the meta-paradigm of luxury: when Craftsmanship, Focus, History and Rarity are combined, they give birth to a concrete manifestation of authentic luxury. The meta-luxury is the culture of excellence, the only one able to survive over time, to be handed down from generation to generation, to withstand recessions and crisis.

To support this intriguing journey through the socio-cultural and economic features of the meta-luxury brands, Ricca and Robins present the conversations they have had with entrepreneurs, academics, artists and thinkers as Salvatore Accardo, Paolo Fazioli, Francis Kurkdjian, Horacio Pagani, Renzo Piano e Francesco Trapani.

PROBLEM SOLVING Ci confrontiamo spesso con grandi opportunità camuffate da problemi. Il processo di soluzione dei problemi richiede di seguire delle precise fasi. È un grosso errore buttarsi subito alla ricerca di una soluzione. Quello che si presenta come un muro, apparentemente invalicabile, deve essere trasformato in una scala, in cima alla quale sovente scopriamo che le soluzioni sono più d’una, grazie al fatto che possiamo vedere le cose da un punto di vista diverso. La scala è la metafora di un corretto approccio ai problemi. Identificare chiaramente un disagio, una devianza dalla norma, riguarda la prima fase del processo, definita Problem Finding, cioè l’individuazione del problema. La prima cosa da fare in questa fase è quella di evitare di confondere il problema con una “condizione”.

La fase che segue è definita Problem Setting e consente, con un successivo affinamento, di scindere il macro-problema in tanti singoli problemi chiaramente definiti, ognuno dei quali potrà avere la sua soluzione. In questa fase non si devono “agitare” i problemi, che significa confonderne cause/effetti/colpe/contesto. Nell’atto di definire i problemi, vanno evitate le domande aperte (Perché pensi di avere questo problema?) che devono essere sostituite con domande ad alternativa: “Questo fatto ti accade nel lavoro o nella vita privata?

Questo problema è la prima volta che si presenta o è ricorrente?”. Occorre eliminare tutto ciò sul quale non è possibile intervenire. Sul passato, perché è immodificabile. Bisogna analizzarlo, ma non intenderlo come un problema, perché non abbiamo facoltà di intervenire. Sul fuori scala, quando il problema è troppo grande o troppo piccolo. Sul fuori livello, quando il problema riguarda una gerarchia troppo alta per consentirci di intervenire. Sul fuori campo, quando il problema affronta competenze troppo diverse dalle nostre.

Come si può vedere, l’abitudine di chiamare problema qualunque situazione che ci crei un disagio, richiede un’azione di setaccio che elimini ciò che è fuori dalla nostra portata. Solo dopo che il problema è stato circoscritto si può passare alla fase di una dettagliata analisi.

La fase di Problem Analysis ha lo scopo di chiarire i sintomi del problema e di definire gli obiettivi che ci poniamo. L’identificazione dell’obiettivo deve utilizzare la formula nota con l’acronimo SMART. Secondo questa formula l’obiettivo deve essere: Specifico (riferito solo a quel problema); Misurabile (cosa si vuole esattamente ottenere); Accettabile (considerato ragionevole); Realistico (ambizioso ma non irrealizzabile); Tempizzato (entro quanto vogliamo ottenere il risultato).

Infine ecco la fase del Problem Solving. È utile impostare il problema secondo questa sequenza: “Dato che (situazione problematica iniziale) e tenendo conto che (aspetti specifici) come fare per (fase di settaggio) ottenere… (le soluzioni attese stabilite nell’obiettivo).

In successivi articoli potremo poi affrontare le varie tecniche che servono per produrre una serie di possibili soluzioni, tra le quali scegliere e mettere in atto la più efficace.

We often face great opportunities disguised as problems. The process of problem solving requires precise steps to follow. It is a big mistake to immediately waste all the energy searching for a solution. What it looks like a seemingly insurmountable wall, it must be transformed into a staircase, on top of which we could find different solutions rather than only one, due to the fact that we could see things from a different point of view. The stairway is the metaphor for a right approach to problems. The issue identification, perceived as a deviance from the rule, is the first stage of the process called Problem Finding, that is the identification of the problem. At this stage the first thing to do is to avoid confusing the issue with a “condition”.

The following stage is defined Problem Setting: it allows to split the macro-problem into many distinct, clearly defined problems, each of which could result into the desired solution. At this stage, it is important to not “shake” the problems, which is equivalent to produce causes/effects/faults/context all mixed up. In defining the problems, we should avoid openended questions such as “Why do you think you have this problem?” and replace them with alternative questions like “Does this fact happen to you at work or at home? Has this problem ever occurred to you before? “.

Everything which can’t be modified should be eliminated. The past, because it is unchangeable. We should analyze it but not view it as a problem, because we have no power to intervene. The oversized, when the problem is too big or too small. The out-of-reach, when the problem occurs on a structural level too high for us to intervene. The out-of-skill set, when the problem deals with skills too different from our own.

As you can see, the habit of transforming every situation that bothers us into a problem, requires a sift out action that eliminates what is beyond our means. Only when the problem has been limited, we could move on to a detailed analysis.

The Problem Analysis phase is aimed to clarify the problem symptoms and to define the goals we set for ourselves.

The target identification should use the formula known by the acronym SMART. According to this principle, the goal we would like to achieve should be: Specific, when referring only to that problem; Measurable, as getting exactly what you want; Acceptable, as considered reasonable; Realistic, as ambitious but not impossible; Temporal, meaning by when we would like to get the result.

Finally there is the Problem Solving phase. It is useful to set the problem in the following sequence: “Given that - starting of the problematic situation - and considering that – defining specific aspects - how to - setting phase - get ... - expected solutions that are established with the goal.

In subsequent articles we will then address the various techniques used to produce a range of possible solutions from which to choose and how to implement the most effective one.

Il 2004, un anno importante, con il film I segreti di Brokeback Mountain insieme a Heath Ledger e Anne Hathaway. Il ruolo di Alma Del Mar le fa ottenere la nomination agli Oscar 2005 come “Migliore attrice non protagonista”, e la nomination per la medesima categoria anche per i Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild e i BAFTA Award.

Nel 2007 è stata la volta de L’amore giovane con Ethan Hawke e Io non sono qui di Todd Haynes, con Cate Blanchett e nuovamente con il compagno Heath Ledger, prematuramente scomparso nel 2008, e da cui ha avuto nel 2005 una bellissima bambina, Mathilda Rose.

Nel 2011 ha finalmente vinto il Golden Globe per My week with Marilyn, come “Migliore attrice in un film commedia o musicale”. Ruolo impegnativo e confronto impossibile con un’icona senza tempo. Eppure la giovane attrice statunitense, a soli 32 anni ha già collezionato ben tre candidature all’Oscar. L’ultima proprio per My week with Marilyn, appena uscito in Italia, in concomitanza del cinquantesimo anniversario della scomparsa della diva.

Una dolce ricostruzione di una settimana con Marilyn dell’allora giovanissimo Colin Clark, interpretato da un giovane e talentuoso Eddie Redmayne dallo sguardo innamorato e sognante.

Infatti dal secondo romanzo di Clark è tratto questo capolavoro, il racconto di una coinvolgente ed indimenticabile settimana sul set de “Il principe e la ballerina”, di Lawrence Olivier. Era l’estate del 1956 e l’allora ventitreenne Colin neolaureato, grazie alla sua tenacia e forte desiderio di confrontarsi con una grande produzione cinematografica, riesce a farsi assumere come terzo assistente alla regia del capolavoro di Lawrence Olivier, il principe, interprato sapientemente dall’affascinante Kenneth Branagh. Ma il vero sogno fu quello di stare accanto a lei, la ballerina, un vero mito irragiungibile, la donna più desiderata al mondo, così fragile, misteriosa, carismatica, dolce, complicata, in una sola parola Marilyn. Così l’autore, Clark, allora un semplice e sconosciuto ragazzo, si trova a vivere un sogno, a condividere momenti unici con l’icona di tutti i tempi.

In 2011 she finally won the Golden Globe for My Week with Marilyn - “Best Actress in a movie comedy or musical”. This was a challenging role with an impossible association with a timeless icon. Yet the young actress - just 32 years old - has already racked up three Oscar nominations. The last was just for My Week With Marilyn, that has been recently released in Italy to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the diva disappearance. A charming reconstruction of a week spent by the then very young Colin Clark with Marilyn, played by a young and talented Eddie Redmayne with loving and dreamy eyes.

In fact, Clark’s second novel inspired this masterpiece the tale of a captivating and unforgettable week on the set of “The Prince and the Showgirl”, by Lawrence Olivier.

It was the summer of 1956 and the then twenty-three graduate Colin - thanks to his tenacity and his strong desire to confront himself with a major motion picture was hired as third assistant director’s of Olivier’s masterpiece, Prince, starring wisely by ‘Kenneth Branagh’s charming.

However the real dream for him was to stand beside her, a dancer, a true unapproachable legend, the most desirable woman in the world, so fragile, mysterious, charismatic, lovable, complicated: in one word Marilyn. So, Clark, the author – at that time he was just a simple, unknown boy - was living a dream, in sharing special moments with the icon of all time. The movie is almost touching, sometimes funny and melancholy. Michelle Williams has managed to overcome the difficult challenge with the incomparable Marilyn. Her performance was intense; starting from the looks and the moves, she made an incredible character study. Everything has been properly described: the delays on the set, the emotional blocks during the recitation, the uncertainties and the strong sense of inadequacy that obsessed her. She embodied the smiles, that being uninhibited and the emotions flowing, the famous scenes: from a swim in the lake with no clothes to a barefoot walk in a park and the great dance with the Marilyn’s sinuous white dress.

Michelle wore even the same purse, she walked her small steps in the purple living room, and in the dance scene she had really relived the unreachable star in front of our incredulously and smiling eyes.

We know it’s been struggling with Oz: The Great and Powerful, fantasy film produced by Disney and the movies is expected for 2012, based on the novel The Wizard of Oz, in which s stars with James Franco and Mila Kunis. What can we expect from Michelle in 2013, will she win the Oscar?

La ricostruzione cinematografica è quasi commovente, a tratti comica e a tratti malinconica. Michelle Williams è riuscita a vincere l’ardua sfida con l’inarrivabile Marilyn. La sua interpretazione è intensa; dagli sguardi alle movenze, ha compiuto uno studio incredibile del personaggio. Dai ritardi sul set, ai blocchi emotivi durante la recitazione, dalle insicurezze a quel forte senso di inadeguatezza che la attanagliava. Dai sorrisi a quell’essere disinibita e lasciarsi andare alle emozioni; dal fare un bagno nel lago senza vestiti al camminare a piedi scalzi in un prato fino al magistrale balletto con il sinuoso abito bianco a sirena di Marylin. Con tanto di borsetta, passettini e mossette nel salotto porpora, Michelle nella scena del balletto fa davvero rivivere l’irragiungibile diva dinanzi ai nostri occhi sorridenti ed increduli.

Sappiamo che è stata alle prese con Oz: The Great and Powerful, film fantasy prodotto dalla Disney ed atteso al cinema per il 2012, basato sul romanzo del Mago di Oz, nel quale recita insieme a James Franco e Mila Kunis. Cosa ci riserverà Michelle nel 2013, sarà la volta dell’Oscar?

LUXURY, ETHICS AND GLOBALIZATION Il rapporto che ciascuno di noi ha con il lusso si evolve continuamente, in parallelo con i mutamenti del costume sociale. Negli ultimi trent’anni ad esempio la nostra percezione del lusso è profondamente cambiata, evolvendosi in maniera positiva: se prima era ostentato, in forme e modi spesso volgari, e coincideva con un consumo senza freni delle risorse, come se l’umanità non avesse un futuro da preservare, nell’era della globalizzazione prevale una maggiore sobrietà, quale effetto di una generalizzata consapevolezza che tutti i nostri comportamenti, singoli e collettivi, devono misurarsi con il futuro in termini di “sostenibilità”.

The relationship that each of us has established with the luxury evolves continuously, in parallel with changes in social habits. For example, over the last thirty years our perception of luxury has changed dramatically, evolving in a positive way: before it was shown in different forms and ways that were often vulgar and coincided with an uncontrolled consumption of resources, as if humanity had not a future to preserve. Now, in the era of globalization a greater sobriety prevails, as a result of a generalized knowledge that all our actions, individual and collective, should be confronted with the future in terms of “sustainability”.

Pur nell’era della globalizzazione esso mantiene tuttavia una dimensione relativa, che ciascuno di noi declina in forme e modi differenti. Si pensi a quanto diversa e’ la sua percezione in un paese europeo, dove prevale una dimensione privatistica, da quella che può aversi in uno dei paesi della primavera araba, dove il lusso può essere ben rappresentato ad esempio dalla conquista di elezioni finalmente libere e democratiche. Dunque in questo secondo caso una dimensione più pubblica e collettiva del lusso. La globalizzazione dei mercati può infine rappresentare l’occasione per estendere ad un numero sempre maggiore di persone l’accesso al mercato dei beni di lusso, con ricadute economiche indubbiamente positive per un’economia come quella italiana, da sempre sinonimo di eleganza ed alta qualità.

La conquista di questo risultato passa tuttavia necessariamente anche attraverso una globalizzazione dei diritti e delle tutele in favore di un numero sempre crescente di donne e di uomini, che consenta di ridurre il precariato, una piaga che mina alle fondamenta la coesione e la crescita sociale. La sfida non e’ di poco conto e fior di filosofi ne hanno già predetto il fallimento. Al contrario sono fermamente convinto che una maggiore eticità nella società globalizzata sia non solo una necessita’ ma una delle grandi opportunità del prossimo decennio. Un fenomeno in parte simile a quello dell’ambientalismo sviluppatosi nel corso degli anni ‘90, quando sembrava che dovesse rappresentare un freno al progresso economico ed invece ha rappresentato un volano fondamentale, addirittura creando un mercato sino ad allora inesistente.

Se in sostanza riusciremo a far si che la globalizzazione sia anche etica e che il progresso economico contribuisca alla crescita culturale e alla coesione sociale il risultato che avremo ottenuto sarà con tutta probabilità un’esistenza meno precaria per milioni di persone: questo lo definirei un vero lusso di questi tempi!

So, in this second case there is a more public and collective idea of luxury. The markets globalization should finally be an opportunity to extend the access to the luxury goods market to an increasing number of people, with a certain positive economic impact on an entire economy as the Italian one, that has always been synonymous with elegance and high quality .

However the achievement of this result necessarily passes through a globalization of rights and protections in favor of an increasing number of women and men, which reduces the temporary employment problem that is a curse undermining social cohesion and growth. The challenge is not slight and different fine philosophers have already predicted its failure. On the contrary, I am firmly convinced that more ethics is not only a necessity in a globalized society, but it is also one of the great opportunities of the next decade. A phenomenon somewhat similar to that of environmentalism developed in the ‘90s, when it seemed that it would be a brake on the economic progress, while it has meant a flywheel effect, even creating a new market that it was absent until then.

In substance, if we could conceive the globalization also as an ethical principle and the economic progress should contribute to the cultural growth and social cohesion, the result will probably be a less precarious existence for millions of people: I would call this a true luxury these days!

Nel turismo esperienziale qualità fa rima con identità ed autenticità. Oggi l’accoglienza turistica deve andare oltre l’impeccabile ospitalità – ormai quasi scontata a certi livelli mirando ad obiettivi di condivisione del valore del territorio.

In tal senso la professione della comunicazione può molto per la capacità di narrare gli elementi distintivi della destinazione, ma anche per il ‘governo delle relazioni’ perché la qualità della condivisione si produce proprio nella corretta interazione tra operatori, comunità ospitanti ed ospiti.

The professional communicator could have an essential role in drawing the corporate social responsibility importance, because the heart of that responsibility is the adoption of transparent communication and the organization ability to relate with all its stakeholders in order to balance their interests.

Cultura. L’eccellenza nel turismo è direttamente proporzionale alla cultura della comunicazione. Non può esistere turismo senza comunicazione perché un territorio, per quanto bello possa essere, non diventa una destinazione se non viene comunicato. Ma non c’è sviluppo del turismo se la comunicazione non diventa relazione. Tomas Maier, Direttore Creativo di Bottega Veneta ha voluto dar vita ad un nuovo concetto di all-in-one, unito all’immagine di un completo. La silhouette maschile è dunque slim e ben definita, con le giacche che finiscono dove il pantalone comincia, un tocco di colore per la camicia e immancabile la borsa portata a mano, in tinta con le scarpe.

Diamantissima collection.

Dal 2010 si sono affiancate alle linee orologiere anche numerose collezioni JEWELS, divenute ormai un must, molto apprezzate da un pubblico trasversale proprio per la varietà di linee proposte.

Tra le novità del 2012 c’è la Collezione Diamantissima, in cui Gucci adotta la tecnica della smaltatura a cattedrale, così chiamata perché l’effetto finale richiama le vetrate di una cattedrale. Questo metodo, una novità per i gioielli Gucci, è applicato da maestri artigiani esperti. Tutti i pezzi sono realizzati artigianalmente e lo smalto è delicatamente inserito a mano. L’iconico disegno a losanghe, creato negli anni ‘30, è stato il primo simbolo distintivo della casa di moda fiorentina ed è il precursore del famoso logo GG, un altro dei simboli più iconici della Maison.

Altra Collezione di successo è Horsebit. Tra le caratteristiche salienti della nuova serie di anelli Horsebit Cocktail di Gucci, c’è una particolare incastonatura delle pietre, che vengono innalzate in modo da essere valorizzate al massimo, riflettere la luce e far risaltare il colore. La creazione di questo nuovo design richiede grande competenza, in quanto ogni elemento dell’incastonatura è modellato singolarmente. Il posizionamento ottimale cattura la luce assicurando al contempo che le gemme siano saldamente fissate. Gli anelli sono ora disponibili anche in un caldo quarzo color cognac incastonato in oro giallo 18 carati e nel nuovo e raffinato topazio blu incastonato in oro bianco 18 carati. Una speciale variante è costituita dalla parure anello e orecchini Horsebit Cocktail in onice nero su oro rosa 18 carati e diamanti.

From 2010 various JEWELS collections were placed alongside the watches ones, becoming an appreciated must by different audiences for the variety of lines.

Among the novelties of 2012, there is the “Diamantissima” Collection, where Gucci adopts the technique of the cathedral glazing, so called because the overall effect recalls the windows of a cathedral. This method - new in Gucci jewelry - is applied by master craftsmen. All pieces are handcrafted and the enamel is gently inserted by hand. The iconic diamond design was created in the ‘30s and it was the first distinctive symbol of the Florentine fashion house and precursor of the famous GG logo, another iconic symbols of the brand.

Another success is the “Horsebit” Collection.

Among the significant features of the new series of Horsebit Cocktail rings, there is a particular stones embedding, which are raised to be very visible, reflecting the light and bringing out the color. The creation of this new design requires great skills, as each element of the mounting is individually modeled. The perfect stone position catches the light while ensuring that the gems are securely fastened. The rings are now available in a warm cognac colored quartz set in 18 karat yellow gold and the new and elegant blue topaz set in 18 karat white gold. A special alternative is the Horsebit Cocktail ring and earrings setmade with black onyx and 18-carat pink gold and diamonds.

Visitors could touch the soft leather used for the coating of the “1921” model and find out more on the innovative journey with Gucci Bamboo watch. Moreover they could admire the selection of materials and the tools used, from beeswax and natural lacquer – used for the bamboo watch bezel –to the spools of cotton up and the selection of needles needed to sew the lining of the “1921” model. Customers could interact with the craftsman at work, asking questions, gaining more knowledge about his abilities and may also buy the finished assembled watch during the event. A video will go along with the exhibition, showing the craftsmen at work and highlighting the manufacturing process, so as to enrich the presentation. The Artisan Clock Corner is designed to show how Gucci Timepieces continue to use traditional techniques and a winning fine craftsmanship performance. Visitors and customers could interact with the show and leave the exhibition with a strong sense of having personally experienced the solid values ??of the fashion house.

Commenting on the future of Gucci Timepieces and projects, Michele Sofisti said: “In a world that moves faster and faster and is becoming increasingly digital, people look for things that last over time: for this reason, Gucci’squality and creativity are intended to triumph in the future. L’Artisan Corner Orologeria ha lo scopo di mostrare come Gucci Timepieces continui ad utilizzare tecniche tradizionali e un’artigianalità pregiata vincente. I visitatori e i clienti potranno interagire con la mostra e lasceranno l’esposizione con la forte sensazione di aver personalmente sperimentato i solidi valori della Maison.

Gli orologi sono scelti in base alla rarità, alla provenienza storica, alla qualità e allo stato di conservazione. Il mercato degli orologi vintage è molto vivace, soprattutto per gli esemplari di altissimo livello il cui valore cresce di anno in anno. Anche in questo settore la domanda da parte dei paesi asiatici, primo fra tutti la Cina, è in costante aumento.

Nel portafoglio si annoverano alcuni modelli rarissimi del Rolex Daytona Paul Newman, tra cui la versione del 1969, la più rara in assoluto, con i tasti a vite. Vi troviamo anche uno dei tre esemplari tuttora esistenti del cronografo rattrapante Patek Philippe del 1952, che per rarità e qualità è considerato uno degli orologi vintage più importanti al mondo. Tra gli orolgi più originali, vi è un raffinato Cartier della fine degli anni Venti, che rappresenta un pezzo di storia del cinema muto americano in quanto appartenuto ad Agnes Ayres, famosa attrice dell’epoca. La sua particolarità risiede nell’accostamento di materiali diversi: platino e diamanti per la cassa, oro giallo per il fondello, oro rosa per la chiusura e stoffa intessuta di fili d’oro per il cinturino.

The portfolio includes some very rare models of Paul Newman Daytona Rolex, including the 1969 version the rarest of all - using the screw down pushers technology. There is also one of three still existing model of the 1952 split-seconds chronograph Patek Philippe, whose rarity and quality make it one of the world’s largest vintage watches. Among the most original watches, there is an elegant Cartier of the late twenties, which is a piece of American silent film history as belonged to Agnes Ayres, actress of that time. Its uniqueness lies in the approach of different materials: platinum and diamonds for cash, gold for the bottom plate, gold rose for the closure and cloth woven with gold thread for the watchstrap.

DIVINE JEWELS Il fondo, attivo da pochi mesi, nasce dall’esigenza di cogliere le opportunità nel mercato mondiale della gioielleria da 65 miliardi di dollari, che continua a mostrare ottima salute. In effetti nelle ultime aste le vendite hanno superato ogni aspettativa: a dimostrazione che i gioielli rari e le pietre preziose restano un investimento finanziario di prima qualità. Tra gli acquisti che sono andati ad arricchire il patrimonio del fondo vi è un magnifico paio di orecchini a clip a forma di tulipano, con uno zaffiro blu e uno zaffiro giallo incastonati in un pavé di rubini. Sono firmati JAR (Joël Arthur Rosenthal), geniale gioielliere che, a partire dagli anni ‘70, ha rivoluzionato il mondo della gioielleria, inventando tra l’altro il micro pavé. DIVINE JEWELS The fund has been in operation since few months and it was born from the need to seize opportunities in the jewelry world market estimated in 65 billion dollars, which continues to enjoy excellent health. Indeed in the last auction, sales exceeded all expectations: this demonstrates that rare jewels and precious stones are a first quality financial investment. Among the purchases that have enriched the fund, there is a beautiful pair of clip-on tulip-shaped earrings, with a blue sapphire and a yellow one set in a pave of rubies. The designer is JAR - Joël Arthur Rosenthal - a brilliant jeweler who has revolutionized the world of jewelry, among other things, inventing the micro pave technique since the ‘70s. It is also the only jeweler whose creations - only a hundred a year - are sold at a higher price a few years after their creation.

There are also extraordinary acquisitions signed by Harry Winston: a bracelet of the ‘80s with sapphires and diamonds and a pair of drop earrings with emeralds and diamonds. Infatti Giuseppina e Carmela Gambardella, proprietarie dell’Hotel Santa Caterina di Amalfi, sono state premiate proprio per aver continuato la tradizione familiare di un’icona dell’accoglienza. E non è un caso se al Santa Caterina lo stile è sinonimo di tradizione e di ospitalità da sempre. Sin dal 1904, anno in cui fu fondato dalla famiglia Gambardella, che lo gestisce ancora oggi, l’Hotel è costituito da una bellissima villa liberty a picco sul mare, inserita con delle dépendances in un rigoglioso parco a terrazze, ricco di fiori e buganville, aranceti e limonaie, a pochissima distanza dal centro di Amalfi.

Nell’interior design spiccano alcuni elementi che contribuiscono a crearne lo stile inconfondibile: i pavimenti di maiolica di Vietri dipinta a mano, i pezzi di antiquariato, per la maggior parte primo Novecento, provenienti dalle proprietà di famiglia, gli spazi luminosi. Molte camere hanno balcone, terrazzo o giardino con vista sull’incantevole scenario della Costiera.

In fact, Josephine and Carmela Gambardella – the Hotel Santa Caterina owners - were honored just to have continued the family tradition of an hospitality icon. It is no coincidence that the Santa Caterina has been synonymous with style and tradition of hospitality all along. Since 1904, when it was founded by Gambardella’s family, the hotel has been consisted of a beautiful art nouveau villa overlooking the sea, set in a flourishing terraced park with outbuildings, full of flowers and bougainvillea, orange and lemon groves, very close to the Amalfi city center.

Since then, the continued commitment of the management - in addition to the tradition preservation – has been renovating the structure, which has become more and more beautiful year after year, keeping the charming original atmosphere intact.

Outstanding interior design elements that help creating the unique style: the floors are tiled with Vietri hand-painted tiles, antiques from the family estate mostly from the early twentieth century, the brightly lit spaces. Many rooms have a balcony, a terrace or a garden overlooking the enchanting scenery of the Amalfi Coast.

The Ostiense air terminal is the Eataly location as well as rail hub of NTV Montezemolo - Della Valle railway company and it is designed by Julio Lafuente. The structure was done on the wishes of the city authorities for the ’90 Italy World Cup edition and left in a state of decay and desolation for about 20 years. The President Oscar Farinetti has done the honors at the four-floors building, whose goal is to make his idea a place that celebrates Italy and its beauty in all its forms and events also in Rome, the Capital city.

Varcando la soglia di un luogo che ha l’ambizione di diventare il tempio delle eccellenze gastronomiche Made in Italy a livello mondiale, si avverte fin da subito una sensazione di diffuso benessere in grado di coinvolgere tutti e 5 i sensi: corsie ampie, scaffali rigorosi, merce ordinata e mirabilmente “spiegata”, che lascia al pubblico (perché anche di spettacolo si parla), l’acquolina in bocca e la voglia di assaggiare. Lo spazio è modulabile in tre sale dotate di ogni tipo di servizio audio e video, e ogni evento organizzato all’interno di Eataly sarà intriso di quella attenzione per la sfera didattica ed emozionale che caratterizza l’approccio di Farinetti.

Eataly di distingue nettamente da altre tipologie di mercato o punti vendita alimentari, proprio per le sue aree dedicate alla didattica che hanno il compito di educare i clienti sulla storia, la cultura e le caratteristiche dei prodotti in vendita.

For Eataly Rome this represents a great challenge, a colossal scale project devoted entirely to beauty in its many forms: in its first year of life Eataly has chosen to celebrate the beauty through the works of Modigliani, an artist that in the early twentieth century continued to successfully propose a simple and figurative painting, while Picasso’s abstraction and cubism broke through. Lo scorso giugno nella cornice della Marina di Cattolica un nuovo battesimo del mare per il Gruppo Ferretti: il varo del Ferretti 870, ultimo nato della flotta. Il momento, come sempre molto emozionante, ha simboleggiato la concretizzazione di mesi d’intenso lavoro, tra progettazione ingegneristica, design, produzione artigianale e cura di ogni minimo dettaglio. È stato appena consegnato dopo tutti i più scrupolosi collaudi tecnici ad un Armatore europeo. Ma in realtà il Ferretti 870, sarà ”rivelato” in anteprima mondiale al Salone di Cannes, dall’11 al 16 settembre prossimo. Questo gioiello nasce come sempre dalla stretta collaborazione tra lo Studio Zuccon International Project insieme all’AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology, il centro di ricerca e progettazione navale del Gruppo Ferretti ed il team di architetti e designer del Centro Stile Ferrettigroup. Last June there was the yacht christening for the Ferretti Group, in Marina di Cattolica - Rimini: Ferretti 870 launch, the newest of the fleet. The occasion represents the realization of months of intense work, including engineering design, craftsmanship and attention to every detail. It has been delivered to a European shipping magnate after the most scrupulous technical. But in reality, the Ferretti 870 will be “revealed” at the Cannes Boat Show for the first time, from 11th to 16th September. This treasure comes as usual from the close cooperation between the Zuccon International Project Studio and the AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology - the Ferretti Group’s center of naval research and design and the team of architects and designers of the Centro Stile Ferretti group. This is a scrupulous investigation of the nature of myth itself - what it eats and how it persists over time while keeping intact its coherence. In a year when almost everyone is inaugurating and dedicating exhibitions of every kind to the diva of all time, this festival is renowned for its unique and intimate approach with the figure of a complex woman, thoroughly investigated without trivial concessions or convenient pop revivals. The exhibition was opened with a big launch event, which attracted the attention of celebrities and experts, that also Luxury Files had the pleasure to attend. Ho amato Rossini ancora prima di conoscerlo!

L’ho amato fin da quando, bimbo di 4 anni, mi entusiasmavo di fronte alla banda dell’esercito che, durante il cambio della guardia al Quirinale, eseguiva alcuni temi tratti dal Moïse et Pharaon.

L’ho amato mentre, aspettando l’inizio delle trasmissioni RAI, ascoltavo incantato la versione per sola orchestra del finale del Guillaume Tell.

A ROSSINI CRESCENDO I loved Rossini even before knowing him!

I loved him ever since I was four years old and I was enthusiastic in listening to Italian army orchestra performing some themes from Moïse et Pharaon. during the changing of the guard in front of the Quirinale palace.

I loved him when listening to the final version for orchestra of Guillaume Tell, while waiting for the start of the RAI television broadcast.

Per non parlare poi di tutti i cartoni animati che hanno usato le sue musiche come colonna sonora!

Per anni, l’ho amato senza mai domandarmi chi fosse l’autore di quelle musiche. È stato un amore inconsapevole, fino al giorno in cui la televisione mandò una pubblicità (non ricordo più di cosa) con una musica travolgente: era il celeberrimo galop finale della sinfonia del Guillaume Tell. Fu allora che espressi il desiderio di avere per il mio compleanno il disco con quella musica…

Arturo Toscanini che dirigeva 6 ouvertures di Rossini, fu il mio primo 33 giri; quello che mi introdusse nel magico mondo della musica classica.

For years, I loved him without ever asking who was the author of these melodies. It was an unaware love, until the day I heard a rousing music in a TV commercial – I couldn’t remember which one - and it was the famous galop in the final symphony of Guillaume Tell. It was then that I expressed the desire to have the original album for my birthday.

Arturo Toscanini, who conducted 6 overtures written by Rossini, was my first LP record: the one that introduced me to the magical world of classical music.

Era il 1969. Avevo appena compiuto 11 anni. Da quel momento, Rossini, che durante l’infanzia si era insinuato nel mio cuore senza che me ne rendessi realmente conto, entrò prepotentemente nella mia vita!

Se il ’69 era stato l’anno della consapevolezza, il 1974 fu l’anno del consolidamento e dell’approfondimento. Non mi bastava più conoscere la sua musica: volevo sapere tutto del “personaggio” Rossini.

Un padre suonatore di corno nella banda municipale; una madre alla quale era profondamente legato; una carriera operistica iniziata a 18 anni; 39 opere in 19 anni; 2 mogli (una spagnola, l’altra francese) e, soprattutto, 2… vite!

Sì. Perché il compositore acclamato e osannato dall’Europa intera, l’artista alla moda, creatore di un suo stile personale imitato da molti, dopo aver scritto Guillaume Tell, al culmine del successo, si ritira dal mondo teatrale all’età di soli 37 anni.

Vivrà ancora 39 anni, durante i quali, tra crisi depressive, esaurimenti nervosi e malattie più o meno serie, continuerà a scrivere musica, per lo più pianistica, senza però pubblicare nulla.

It was 1969. I had just turned 11 years old. Since then, Rossini really entered powerfully into my life, though he had crept into my heart without realizing it, already during my childhood.

If 1969 was the year of awareness, the 1974 was the year of consolidation and deepening. For me, just to know his music was not enough: I wanted to know everything about the Rossini’s figure.

The father was a horn player in the municipal band and he was deeply attached to his mother; a career in the opera that began when he was just 18 years old; 39 operas in 19 years; he got married twice – a Spanish woman and a French one - and above all, he got 2 lives!

Yes, because the composer that was acclaimed and hailed from all Europe, the fashionable artist who created his own style that was imitated by many, after he wrote Guillaume Tell, , he decided to withdraw from the scene at the age of 37 years, at the height of success.

He still lived other 39 years, during which he continued to write music - mostly piano operas - but without publishing anything and living in the dumps, with nervous breakdowns and more or less serious diseases.

Scoprii che a Pesaro esisteva una Fondazione Rossini, che pubblicava il Bollettino del Centro Rossiniano di Studi, periodico di carattere musicologico, la quale proprio in quegli anni aveva iniziato a preparare l’edizione critica di tutte le opere di Rossini. E intanto, come se ciò non fosse bastato, ecco arrivare nel 1980 un Festival che, caso più unico che raro nel mondo musicale internazionale, metteva in pratica l’attività scientifica della Fondazione, curando la rappresentazione teatrale delle edizioni critiche.

Il mio entusiasmo era alle stelle! Un Festival interamente dedicato al mio idolo. Mi sembrava di sognare! Da quel lontano 1980 ad oggi, ho seguito con passione tutti gli eventi di quello che fin dall’inizio si è affermato come uno dei Festival più importanti d’Europa. Ricordo ancora con emozione, tra i tanti capolavori rossiniani dimenticati e restituiti al mondo musicale (tre titoli fra tutti: Ermione, Maometto II e Zelmira), il recupero della partitura del Viaggio a Reims, scomparsa nel nulla, creduta perduta e senza alcuna speranza di essere ritrovata: uno degli eventi musicali più importanti del secolo!

I found that there was a Rossini Foundation in Pesaro, which published the Bulletin of the Center for Rossini’s Studies – a musicological style periodical - which in those years had just begun to prepare a critical edition of all the Rossini’s operas.

Meanwhile, as if this were not enough, here came a festival in 1980 that was putting into practice the scientific activities of the Foundation, taking care of critical editions of the opera, becoming a unique event on the international music scene.

My enthusiasm was so high! A festival dedicated to my idol: it seemed to dream! From 1980 until today, I followed all the events with passion, especially since it has emerged as one of the most important festival in Europe. I still remember the recovery of the score of Viaggio a Reims with vivid emotion, among many masterpieces Rossini’s forgotten and returned to the musical world - three titles over all: Hermione, Mohammed II and Zelmira – that render the musical event one of the most important of the century!

Now, after many years of breakthroughs and discoveries, little remains of yet unknown. However this year the Rossini Opera Festival has a respectable program in spite of the crisis.

Ormai dopo tanti anni di scoperte e ritrovamenti, è rimasto poco di ancora sconosciuto. Ma anche quest’anno il Rossini Opera Festival, a dispetto della crisi, presenta un programma di tutto rispetto.

Tra gli eventi salienti: l’opera Ciro in Babilonia, ossia la caduta di Baldassare, allestita per la prima volta nella cittadina marchigiana, che inaugurerà la XXXIII edizione del Festival; la nuova e attesissima produzione del Signor Bruschino; la Matilde di Shabran con la regia di Mario Martone; l’esecuzione in forma di concerto del Tancredi, che chiuderà la rassegna e che sarà videotrasmessa in diretta in Piazza del Popolo; la quarta sessione dell’integrale dei Péchés de vieillesse che quest’anno allargando i confini della produzione pianistica, si inoltra in quella delle composizioni vocali con l’Album Français; il filone della Rossinimania che viene ripreso con un concerto interamente dedicato alla trascrizione per chitarra della Semiramide operata da Mauro Giuliani; e per finire, una curiosa incursione di Stefano Bollani nel firmamento rossiniano!

Direi che un innamorato di Rossini, quale io sono, non potrebbe chiedere di più… o no?

Among the special events, we should underline the Cyrus in Babylon opera, namely the collapse of Baldassare, for the first time staged in Pesaro, which will inaugurate the Thirteenth edition of the Festival; the long-awaited new production of Signor Bruschino; the Matilde di Shabran directed by Mario Martone; the Tancredi opera will be played in a concert version, which will close the festival and it will be broadcasted live in Piazza del Popolo in Rome; the fourth session of the integral Péchés de vieillesse, that this year will expand the boundaries of piano works, entering into that of the vocal album Français; the Rossinimania trend will be taken up with a concert devoted entirely dedicated to the guitar transcription of Semiramide made by Mauro Giuliani. Finally a curious sortie of Stefano Bollani into the Rossini’s heaven!

I would say that a Rossini’s fan - who I am - could not ask for anything more ... or not?

NINA ZILLI STAY SOUL!

Spensieratezza. Talento. Vintage. Scoprirla, si dice, è un amore a prima vista. Questo è il suo anno, questo è il suo palcoscenico, questo è il suo successo, il successo di Nina Zilli.

Con ordine: Sanremo. Non era la prima volta, C’era un brano, L’Uomo Che Amava Le Donne, che ha strabiliato il Festival nr. 60 con i Premi che contano, la Critica Mia Martini, la Sala Stampa Radio e TV, l’Assomusica per la migliore esibizione tra i Giovani. Nel 2011, l’anno dopo, Nina è con La Crus per Io Confesso. Per poi atterrare quest’anno con Per Sempre. Centro.

Non basta: Baku, Azerbaijan. Si tratta di rappresentare l’Italia all’Eurovision Song Contest – sul palco le note sono quelle di L’Amore E’ Femmina (Out Of Love).

Poi in TV, accanto a Panariello, prima di una veloce tappa al 1° Maggio romano, prima di intraprendere il lungo tour estivo. Senza sosta, senza alcun passo falso, Nina scalpita, sogna e si concede alla musica, quella che conta, quella che vive con straordinaria passione.

Ingredienti. Sentimento, forte, o forse sarebbe meglio dire tormento, per il soul, per la musica dell’anima, per le cose semplici e non per questo banali, che funzionano.

Viscere r’n’b, vocalismi impegnati, rocksteady, Motown, Nina Simone, Temptations, black e tradizione popolare italiana.

Lightheartedness. Talent. Vintage. They say that discovering her is like love at first sight. This is her year, this is her stage, this is her success, Nina Zilli’s success.

In order: Sanremo event. It was not her first time: there was a song, “L’Uomo che amava le donne”, which amazed the sixtieth Festival winning the awards that matter – Mia Martini music journalism award, the TV-station, Radio and Press award, the Assomusica best young categories performance award. In 2011, a year later, Nina sang Io Confesso with La Crus. And then she hits the mark with Per Sempre this year.

It is not enough: Baku, Azerbaijan. She represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest: the song chosen was L’Amore è femmina (Out Of Love).

Then she was on TV, next to Panariello, before a short stop in 1st May concert in Rome and also beginning her long summer tour. Without pause, without any misstep, Nina is raring, dreaming, and giving all herself to the music, the one that counts, the one that she lives with an extraordinary passion.

The ingredients: a strong feeling - it would be best to say a torment - for the soul, the music of the soul, for the simple things but not so trivial, the ones that work. In addition we could find a deep r’n’b background, committed vocalisms, rock steady, Motown, Nina Simone, Temptations, black music and Italian folk tradition.

Peraltro, a volere fare un confronto tra L’Amore È Femmina e Sempre Lontano, l’albo di debutto del 2010, viene fuori una nota di disimpegno che mette per un momento da parte le figure giamaicane per far spazio a toni più leggeri e delicati. Nina in questa dimensione è completamente a suo agio, complice anche un grosso lavoro di sofisticazione elettronica, la cura maniacale di ogni dettaglio, che ci restituisce un’istantanea pressoché perfetta degli anni Cinquanta.

Accanto, l’immagine. Look smaliziato, acconciature spigolose che potrebbero essere di Amy Winehouse, movenze alla Mina – cosa c’è di male? – molto glamour si direbbe, stramaledettamente efficace.

Accanto, l’indole. Nina gode di esuberanza ed indipendenza, a suo modo è irriverente, diverte e si diverte, conquista con la sua eleganza, con il suo stile, classe, gusto, con la sua raffinatezza.

Aggiungete il fatto che questa storia parte dal basso e non dai talent show, ricordatevi che sta a suo agio anche quando si tratta di duettare – era Giuliano Palma su 50mila, è Carmen Consoli su Un’Altra Estate… c’è tutto, ci sono le premesse, ci sono le certezze, c’è una grande musica, una grande interprete, c’è una grande voce. Carattere, carisma, personalità.

On the other hand, comparing the albums L’amore è femmina and Sempre lontano – her 2010 debut album – there is a flexible note that puts apart Jamaican’s features for an instant, just to make room for more low-key and softer tones. Nina is completely at ease in this dimension, also because of a huge work of electronic approach together with maniacal attention to detail, which give us an almost perfect snapshot of the fifties.

Next, the image: a shrewd look, edgy hairstyles very similar to Amy Winehouse ones, Mina’s attitude – and what’s wrong with that? Since it seems very glamorous and damn effective.

Besides, the personality: Nina enjoys exuberance and independence, in her own way she is irreverent, she knows how to entertain the audience and how to enjoy herself at the same time, winning with her elegance, style, class, taste and perfection.

You should add the fact that her story starts from the bottom and not from any talent show, besides the detail that she is at ease when it comes to duet – with Giuliano Palma in 50mila and with Carmen Consoli in Un’altra estate... .

There is everything: there are the right premises, the certainties, a great music, a great performer, besides a great voice. Temperament, charisma, personality.
