A mammoth crowd turned up at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) for some worldclass off-track entertainment. They enjoyed an epic live performance by global megastar, artist and producer Avicii.

Avicii’s live show was his last in the GCC region, and one of his final ever. Earlier last month, he announced his retirement from touring at the end of 2016. Over the race weekend, international Reggae artists Axwell Ingrosso turned up the volume. Arabic music lovers weren’t left out as Saad Lamjarred took to the stage as well.

Roaming performers from all over the world created a festive mood off the track; This year’s cast of roaming artists included, amongst others, Beastie Drummers, Danny Hang Player, Joey Albert, Mimo Dixie Band, Morf and Wojtek. Beastie Drummers have performed in festivals all over the world. They aim to bring people together through the celebration of music and dancing. Over time, they have created a unique musical style that blends traditional folk with a modern, dance twist. The instrumentation is likewise varied across cultures, with snares beside djembes, and samba shakers next to Turkish bass drums. Daniel Waples, or Danny Hang Player, is a world-travelling musician. Living an independent life, he freely expresses himself, travels as he pleases, and plays to everyone and everywhere, sending a message of pure music and tranquility. From acrobatics to juggling and comedy, Joey Albert is a “Jack of all

trades. He has spent years perfecting his skills to perform only the best street entertainment for all ages. Mimo Dixie Band are an innovative group, born from the combination between the dixieland musical style of the twenties while miming gesture, circus arts and comedy. They dedicate themselves to one of the most ancient jazz styles. Morf is a complete vocal looper. He uses nothing but his voice and an array of effect/loop units to create full songs live on the spot. He provides an interactive and fully enjoyable performance for audiences of all ages, showcasing what the human voice is fully capable of. Wojtek is a terrific musician who has played in festivals all over the world. He will now be bringing his style to the Bahrain Grand Prix, where he is sure to win over more fans.

Also among the roaming acts were circus professionals The Dapper Chaps, guitar duo The Mangore Duo, classical musician The Saw Guy and energetic street performer Spandy Andy.

The F1 Game Zone is an interactive tent with activities that gave race-goers a chance to experience some of the thrills of the sport on a personal level. There were F1 car simulators as well as an impressive, high-fidelity, 180-motion simulator that brought the rider inside the simulation by making the virtual forces and impacts real. Visitors were also be able to test their reaction speed and hand-eye coordination by using the same equipment that F1 drivers use to train, the BATAK Pro. Further, F1 Game Zone also featured an eight-lane

car racing track with the BIC track design, giving the fans a chance to compete with others for the right to be first across the finish line. The Pit Stop Challenge gave people the chance to experience accurate demonstrations as to how to complete a pit stop while being instructed on the roles of the pit crew. Using life-like compressed air drills, the participants’ time will be recorded as they take on the challenge. Meanwhile, an interactive Pit Wall and F1 training experience was also part of the F1 Game Zone.

In signature BIC fashion, the line-up of off-track activities, especially for children, kept them amused throughout the threeday motoring spectacle. These included a selection of enjoyable workshops; interaction with a world-renowned bubble artist and roaming performers; memorable activities with a giant puppeteer and a challenging maze; a pair of drumming monkeys and so much more. The workshops covered four exciting areas. There was a balloon workshop where kids could learn how to twist and turn threefoot balloons to make a replica of insects, animals and everything in between. There was also a bubbles workshop, where kids could be hands on in preparing and creating different sizes of bubbles with help from a professional bubble master from the US. At the circus workshop, all kinds of skills could be learned such as spinning plates, juggling, balancing and uni-cycling; while in the magic workshop, kids were able to pick up fantastic tricks from Maestro Gary and Maestro Ricky, who have more than 15

years’ experience. The magic workshop has been in many international events, including at the UEFA Cup Final. Meanwhile, Aramis Gehberger, more popularly known as Dr Bubbles, was also on hand at the F1 Village, as were the Treemendous Treants. Dr Bubbles is one of the most successful bubble artists from Austria, having performed all over the world including some of the biggest festivals in Europe. His charming and entertaining character keeps the audience in awe. Kids looking for an extra dose of excitement had the Titeretú giant puppeteer and challenging maze known as Labyrinth II. The Amazing Drumming Monkeys Show has entertained thousands of children at international events. Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, these two adorable monkey puppets, Bongo and Congo, play African drums and lead audiences in song and dances, while performing tricks and special effects. The show also featured beautiful positive messages, such as caring for our environment, and getting along with each other.

At a glance it looks pretty much like another straightforward variation on the firm’s big, aircooled model range, and indeed the engine is exactly the same as the rest of the bikes in that line. But perhaps the reason it’s taken so long to show up is that it’s actually got a surprising number of bespoke parts that aren’t shared with other bikes in the range. The USP of the Springfield is that while it’s a bagger in its initial form it can be converted to a naked cruiser in a matter of minutes without any tools. The screen and hard panniers simply unclip, as can the pillion seat, to convert it into a machine that looks much the same as the Chief Classic. While something similar can be done with the existing Chief Vintage – which has a similar screen and soft leather bags – the Springfield’s chassis is different, allowing it to carry heavier loads. In fact it can lug as much as 242kg of passenger

and luggage. In keeping with the touring intentions when the luggage and screen are fitted, not to mention a price tag that’s less than an iPhone away from £20k, it’s got lots of kit as standard. Adjustable passenger footboards, antilock brakes, tyre pressure monitors, cruise control and front and rear crash bars are all standard. As with the rest of the air-cooled range, the engine is the Thunder Stroke 111 (that’s 1811cc to you and me) with undisclosed power (around 95hp, but we didn’t tell you that) and 101.7lbft of torque at a mere 2,600rpm.
