IGN Convention is a Pop-Culture event, where we use the term pop-culture as it really FDSWXUHV ZKDW WKH HYHQW LV DERXW ,W¡V DQ HYHQW that has a little bit of everything, whether it's TV shows, movies, video games, virtual reality, comic books, arts, interactive games and much more. We are constantly trying to reinvent the event and add more dimensions to it.

Tell us about your journey with IGN? Prior to the IGN Convention we have been working on a lot of similar projects in the Kingdom. They were individual efforts done by a group of friends using our own personal resources. But the general idea behind it was that instead of complaining about not having many events to go to in Bahrain, we do the HYHQWV RXUVHOYHV :H ZHUH WKH Ă€UVW LQ WKH middle east to launch this sort of event and started building it up step by step. Obviously we were lucky to have amazing supporters who helped us make it a success right from the start. In 2013, IGN Middle East visited Bahrain and they took the brave decision to do their Ă€UVW HYHQW RXWVLGH 'XEDL ZLWK XV LW ZDV D ELJ VXFFHVV DQG ZH KDYHQ¡W ORRNHG EDFN VLQFH

For starters, we promise to have a very exciting celebrity line-up. Celebrities are always a key attraction and we invest a lot of our time in picking who we should bring to each event, making it the trickiest and PRVW GLIÀFXOW SDUW RI WKH HYHQW 7KLV \HDU we are thrilled to have Wrestler Kurt Angle, Actor Giancarlo Esposito from the hit show Breaking Bad and Cosplayer and actress $ORGLD *RVLHQJÀDR DWWHQGLQJ :H ZLOO DOVR be doing a lot of work around emerging Virtual Reality technologies and exclusive game releases for the guests to try out. This year we have the biggest artist alley hall that %DKUDLQ KDV HYHU KDG $OVR IRU WKH ÀUVW WLPH we are planning to have performers all the way from Japan as part of a joint initiative between us and our partners over there.

INTERVIEW Could you give us an overview of the events lined up? The two key events are Cosplay and the Gaming competitions. It always fascinates me at the amount of detail and effort that Cosplayers put into their costumes, and my personal favourite part is when the participants come up with a full skit to match their Cosplay. We have eight gaming competitions in which the best of the best compete in different games to take the title RI %DKUDLQ¡V EHVW JDPHU LQ HDFK FDWHJRU\ Other than that we have celebrity discussion panels, autograph and photography sessions and plenty of live entertainment and activities happening throughout the event. At any given point guests of the events will have a variety of things they can participate in. I believe it is a great opportunity for people to meet with similar interests.

You bought IGN to Bahrain and have come a long way through. Did you ever think that you would have come so far? From the very early start, our idea was to do something that everyone in Bahrain would look forward to. We always wanted to create a platform, that even people from outside Bahrain would actually make the effort to travel to, attend our events and have a good time. I believe that we have achieved that. By no means, is it an individual effort as over the years I was lucky enough to have an incredibly talented and hard working team working with me to achieve this goal people whom I have a strong personal and professional relationship with. An Event such as IGN Convention requires a lot of time and resources and the guys at Tarteeb Events left no stone unturned in the quest to grow the event each year. Its always a pleasure to work with The IGN Middle East Team and , FDQ¡W WKDQN WKHP HQRXJK IRU WUXVWLQJ XV VR that we could bring IGN to Bahrain.

The challenge now is always to top what ZH GLG ODVW \HDU :H GRQ¡W UHDOO\ FRPSDUH ourselves to anyone else in the region and we just focus on providing more to those who are attending the event. We also work on building a lot of connection with the International community to help boost the image of Bahrain, and for me this is just really satisfying.

Is there any advice for the reader? Whether you are in for the main themes of the event, or just looking forward to having a JRRG WLPH WKLV LV DQ HYHQW \RX VKRXOGQ¡W PLVV out on. You are guaranteed to have a good time and feel like you have escaped reality for a moment.

What were the challenges you faced then and how are they different from the challenges that you face now? %DFN ZKHQ ZH ÀUVW VWDUWHG ,*1 LQ people did not understand this sort of event. We were getting rejected by almost every potential sponsor or partner, and we were never taken seriously whenever we went into a meeting. That being said the few people who did support us played a huge part in how things are at the moment. We had to invest a lot from our own personal resources and time in order to reach this point. Those are days I look back on fondly, as we were just a bunch of friends sitting in a coffee shop, planning the event while having a good time. Now the event itself is on a much different and larger scale. We now have considerable support from local enterprises, and because the scale of the event is much bigger, it means that a lot of people have to be involved and work needs to be done in a much more structured and organised way.

So what is MEPI? Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) is a fully funded program, where they select students (age 20 to 24 yeas old) from the MENA region to participate in a leadership program in the United States. The selected students are the top in their countries, who are then distributed among six universities that host the program for six weeks. The universities are Montana State University, Georgetown University, Portland State University, Roger Williams University, Benedictine University and the University of Delaware.

Could you give us an overview of the program? How is MEPI Different from other student leadership program? The course includes learning about leadership, teamwork, public speaking, FRQĂ LFW UHVROXWLRQ HQWUHSUHQHXUVKLS DQG democracy. Moreover, the students not only attend classes but also get the chance to practice leadership skills in various ways. Furthermore, they are encouraged to identify issues within their communities and given tips on problem solving and techniques on problem resolutions which can then be implemented upon their return to Bahrain.

7KH ÀUVW IHZ GD\V WKH VWXGHQWV VWD\HG LQ Washington D.C in order to get an overview of the program and meet their mentors who provided the additional information about their respective universities. On the fourth day the students moved into their university for four weeks. Some even had trips to other states such as California, Pennsylvania, New York, Washington and Massachusetts. Classes and trips on various subjects were planned throughout the whole program and in the last three days, the students returned to Washington D.C for a presentation of their experiences in front of the Department of State and other people.

Why should people sign up for it? It is a life-changing experience that helps you look at world problems from a wider picture and helps you to strengthen skills to become a future leader. It all comes down to getting resources to strengthen your personality and empowering your mentality. In addition, the participants get the chance to meet other people from all around the world and connect with like-minded people. It also serves as a great platform to kick start your career. Al-Mutanabbi was well educated, which he earned partly because of his lyrical abilities.Having lived closely among the Bedouin of the Banu Qalb tribe, he learnt their doctrines and Arabic in Damascus, Syria. He started writing poetry when he was nine years old. He is known for his sharp intelligence and wit. AlMutanabbi had a great pride in himself through his poetry. It was in his youth that he earned his nickname "Al- Mutanabbi", which means "the one who wants to become a Prophet". According to some interpretations, he associated himself to Prophet Salih in some of his verses; others claim it was his political activities that won the young poet the unusual name. He was the leader of a revolutionary movement and, claiming to be a Prophet, led a revolt in his hometown in 932. After two years of imprisonment, he recanted and became a wandering poet. Throughout his life, he aspired to be a political leader, although his aspirations were never IXOĂ€OOHG +H WUDYHOOHG IURP Iraq to Syria, Egypt and Iran LQ VHDUFK RI DQ LQĂ XHQWLDO patron that would eventually appoint him as governor of a province.

His great talent brought him very close to many leaders of his time, and this is what his poetry revolves around, praising the kings he visited. He would praise Kings and leaders in return for money and gifts. His powerful and convincing poetic style earned him great popularity. His poems, which praised various rulers, took him from court to court, from fame to greater fame. Some consider his 326 poems to be great representations of his life story and have LQĂ XHQFHG ZRUGVPLWKV IRU FHQWXULHV DIWHU His political ambitions lead him to Aleppo, in Northern Syria, where he joined the court of Prince Saif Al Dawla. From his arrival in 948, Al-Mutanabbi enjoyed the protection of the prince for some nine years, before his political aspirations caused him to lose his patron's favours and made leaving the country his only option. During this time $O 0XWDQDEEL YHUVLĂ€HG KLV greatest and most famous poems, which are ranked as masterpieces of Arabic poetry. In Egypt, the poet won the protection of the regent, Abu Al Misk Kafur, but his favours were not bestowed on Al Mutanabbi for a long time. He KDG WR Ă HH WKH FRXQWU\ LQ after he wrote several poems that presented the court in a bad light. Having returned to Iraq, he was attacked and killed by bandits. It is reported that when Al-Mutanabbi ZLVKHG WR Ă HH KLV VHUYDQW awkwardly reminded him of his bold verses; Al-Mutanabbi resolved to live up to them and fought, and died along his companions in 965
