Having grown up reading Coeds, it comes as an extreme honour to be appointed as the new Deputy Editor for the magazine. As a new editor, I have some exciting news for you, Coed’s is going quarterly. In 2017 we will be your seasonal one stop shop for everything Bahrain. But for now, another year is almost over and I cannot believe how fast it has gone. The weather is beginning to turn a little chillier, and I’m looking for any excuse to crack out my winter wardrobe. This month Bahrain was honored to hold the prestigious IGN Convention, for a 4th year in a row!! The event is a specialised international exhibition for gaming and pop culture enthusiasts, and we were lucky enough to have famous international celebrities with huge fan bases grace the stage. Including the actor and director Giancarlo Esposito, the professional wrestler and US Olympic champion "Kurt Angle", and ZRUOGZLGH NQRZQ FRVSOD\HU $ORGLD *RVLHQJÀDR ZKR we had the chance to interview, later in the magazine. The event hosted a range of stalls including, shops, artwork, and a large gaming hall, featuring a range of competitions. The convention also included fun indoor DFWLYLWLHV VXFK DV VXPR ÀJKWHU JODGLDWRU GXDO EXOOÀJKW karaoke, kids cosplay. As well as outdoor activities including a haunted house.

After a full year of hard work and dedication, BritMUN IV held its opening ceremony last month at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel. With many delegates, both local and international, BritMUN IV has set the precedent for other MUN conferences in the Middle East. This year they hosted a residential conference with which they were able to fully involve delegates at all times. The event was held to encourage young delegates on current International affairs. They hope that in the next few years the BRITMUN community will expand and inspire more delegates to participate in conferences as such.

Can you please explain to our readers what BritMun is? BritMUN was founded in 2012 by students at the British School of Bahrain. The British School of Bahrain International Model United Nations Conference is an annual event. BritMUN is entering its fourth year, which is VKDSLQJ WR EH LWV PRVW LQĂ XHQWLDO DQG IUXLWIXO yet. The conference is a forum for debates and a geopolitical simulation, which models major decision-making bodies responding to and shaping global issues.
:KDW PDNHV WKLV \HDU¡V %ULW0XQ different to the previous years? The councils this year range from those at traditional Model UNs such as the Disarmament and International Security Committee of the United Nations to new and creative crisis committees such as the Bilderberg Conference and the National $HURQDXWLFV DQG 6SDFH $GPLQLVWUDWLRQ¡V Mission to Mars. In this way, BritMUN IV hopes to educate future world leaders and prepare them to handle complex real-world issues, while also opening delegates minds to new and intricate ideas.
How did you get involved in BritMUN? I started my career in Bahrain 3 years ago and shared my vision with the Chairman of the board who advised me to go ahead with the concept and offered me his full support. 0\ ÀUVW WDVN ZDV WR DWWHQG FRQIHUHQFHV LQ Bahrain and build our numbers up. We train students of all positions once a week and in that time they learn to advocate good practice.
$UH RQO\ VFKRRO¡V LQ %DKUDLQ involved, or are schools from other countries also involved? The bulk of our students come from BSB but we had a large number of delegates from 12 different countries and we had over 58 nationalities at the conference, this year.
How is BritMun good for Bahrain?
How can someone interested get involved next year?
%ULW081 ZDV RQH WKH ÀUVW 081 FRQIHUHQFHV in the Middle East and has now grown to be WKH ÀUVW WUXO\ UHVLGHQWLDO LQWHUQDWLRQDO DQG entirely student-run Model UN in the region.
All you need to do is register with the after school club on Tuesday at 3-4 pm if you are a student in BSB and come to the training sessions. As far as the Britmun event is

concerned we have online registration which starts about three months prior to the conference, or if students are coming from abroad we start our process 6 months in advance.
Do you have to be good at debating to get involved or is it something you learn throughout the process? It helps to be good at debating, as BritMUN is for delegates who love to argue or discuss real life issues that will affect them in the future.
Is there anything else you would like to add? BritMUN is now an international conference that is in partnership with NAIMUN and GIRA ( Georgetown university international relations). The accrediting process was very successful and the team from Washington DC were really impressed by the level of debate and by the high standards set for the delegates who attended BritMUN IV. We hope to see you all next year at BritMUN V.
Tell us a bit about yourself, and how and why you got involved in BritMUN? My name is Yannis, I am currently 18 years old and attend the British School of Bahrain. I have always been interested in learning about a diverse range of subjects and participating in a project like BritMUN gave me the platform to extensively widen my comprehension of the global issues that shape our hold. I attended the North American Invitational Model UN (NAIMUN) in Washington DC in February 2015 and again in February 2016, and both years at NAIMUN, I won the DZDUG IRU œ2XWVWDQGLQJ 'HOHJDWH ¡ ,Q P\ WRWDO high school Model UN experience, I have participated in more than 15 conferences both regionally and internationally and these experiences prepared me for my next step in the High School Model UN circuit. Participating in NAIMUN and seeing how students from across the globe came together to collaborate and develop solutions and opinions on poignant topics in the world, I was inspired to take our conference to the next level in terms substantive excellence, logistical planning, and intellectual delegate engagement. From the start of the planning
phase to the conference itself, I was selected as and served as the Secretary General of the fourth annual British School of Bahrain International Model United Nations (BRITMUN IV 2016) in partnership with Georgetown University and as the Director of RXU 6FKRRO¡V 081 FOXE
fast paced modern day world, the ability to speak in public, think critically, and engage in negotiations and debates, are all assets that students will require in their higher education and in future professional environments.
Why would a student want to get involved in this?
The planning process took more than a year, DQG WKH UHVXOW ZDV WKH ÀUVW WUXO\ LQWHUQDWLRQDO residential and entirely student-run Model UN in Bahrain, with hundreds of students attending from across the Middle East. Everything from the website to the council topics and the organization was the product of our student team working together on both the substantive and executive fronts. 2XU VFKRRO¡V 081 FOXE KROGV ZHHNO\ WUDLQLQJ sessions where we teach delegates at our school about Model UN through council simulations, study guides, and an organized lesson plan. The aim of these lessons is to prepare delegates for BRITMUN and other conferences both in Bahrain and beyond.
Expanding of academic horizons, academic experience but also fun, learning experience outside the classroom, essential skills to develop public speaking, skills you need in every profession and for any interview with a university- skills that will prove invaluable in WRGD\¡V IDVW PRYLQJ ZRUOG
What kind of skills do you develop as a person from something like this? Model UN provides students with an educational platform to learn invaluable skills through an extracurricular experience outside the classroom, which ultimately, will teach students more about geopolitics and the issues that shape our world than any classroom lesson ever could. The theme of the conference was “Engineering, Science, and Technology in the Context of the International Communityâ€? and explored the implications that the above have to shape geopolitical relationships between countries and political perspectives.
Was it an overall success would you say? My personal goal and that of BRITMUN remains to work with, educate, and inspire students to stand up and effect change in the world tomorrow through rigorous discourse and debate today, to build a more peaceful, progressive and prosperous future for themselves, and for generations to come. I personally think we achieved this and exceeded expectations in terms of logistics, and the quality of substantive debate on issues, setting an entirely new standard and platform for debate in the Bahrain.
What was a highlight for you? The highlights of the conference for me, and I believe (and hope) for most of the delegates DV ZHOO ZHUH WKH FULVLV LVVXHV %ULW081 ,9¡V Crisis team essentially spent the conference creating crisis arcs to drive debate in the issues of all of the crisis committees forward, DORQJVLGH PDQDJLQJ WKH VXEVWDQWLYH à RZ RI GHEDWH LQ DOO FRXQFLOV 'HVSLWH WKLV \HDU¡V exceptionally small crisis team for the large number of councils that BritMUN IV had this year, crisis made the conference the success that it was. Tell us about yourself and your story your journey? I was born and brought up in Bahrain, I studied at the Indian school of Bahrain, and I had quite a tough time of it. I found that none of my teachers believed that I would be who I am today. They used to say to me, “You will not be successful in your lifeâ€? and they told my friends that if they sat with me they would also not achieve success. School is the only place in my life where I failed at something I could have easily achieved. I believe that HGXFDWLRQ LVQ¡W IRU HYHU\RQH RI FRXUVH LW LV important to learn the basics, but for people that want to become entrepreneurs, I feel that self education is more important. Take time to develop your creativity and learn about the industry you want a career in. Take internships,and talk to people that can help you achieve your own personal goal's. , ZDVQ¡W WKH EULJKWHVW VWXGHQW EXW , DOZD\V ORYHG Ă€JKWLQJ DQG , DOZD\V ZDQWHG WR EH great at everything I did. I had ambition, but there was nothing around me to guide me on the path I had chosen. I wanted a career in Ă€JKWLQJ , ZDQWHG WR EH WKH JUHDWHVW Ă€JKWHU LQ WKH ZRUOG EXW WKHUH ZDV QR Ă€JKWLQJ DOORZHG in Bahrain, no Mixed Marshal Arts, no MMA gyms to train in, no promoters or managers.
I had to do all of it myself, try and break the industry for myself. I quickly realised that I GLGQ¡W ZDQW WR ÀQLVK P\ HGXFDWLRQ , ZDQWHG to start my career. I got up one morning DQG GHFLGHG , ZDVQ¡W JRLQJ WR JR WR VFKRRO anymore, and I quit. And it was tough. I had IDPLO\ PHPEHUV¡ IURP ,QGLD FDOOLQJ PH DQG crying, asking me why I had done this. Yes I OHIW œPDLQVWUHDP¡ HGXFDWLRQ EXW , ZDV EHLQJ educated in something else, something that was worth it to me. I went into training mode. I trained 9 hours a day, I woke up at 4am started training all the way through till 7am, then I would have breakfast. I would spend a lot of time on the internet analysing and learning things about MMA. I would sleep, then wake up at 11pm and do another three hours of training, have lunch, analyse MMA, fall asleep, wake up at 4am do another 3 hours of training and do the same, eat and analyse. That was my life for almost 2 to 4 years, no friends, no girlfriend, QR SDUW\LQJ QR QRWKLQJ , GRQ¡W HYHQ KDYH D driving licence because I would have had to spend 22 hours learning, and that was time , GLGQ¡W KDYH 0\ WLPH ZDV WRR YDOXDEOH WR me. I could be educating myself or training or learning. It got to a point where I had all the HGXFDWLRQ EXW QR RQH WR ÀJKW DQG ZLWKRXW D ÀJKW \RX DUH QRWKLQJ 9 DECEMBER 2016 CO-EDS 29
7HOO XV DERXW \RXU Ă&#x20AC;UVW Ă&#x20AC;JKW $V WKHUH ZHUHQ¡W PDQ\ SHRSOH LQ %DKUDLQ WR Ă&#x20AC;JKW ZLWK , KDG WR WUDYHO WR Ă&#x20AC;QG SHRSOH 6R , went to Thailand for three months. I lost 25 kg in one month, I lived on protein shakes alone, and I would just eat from a Nutella jar because I knew I needed to have some FDUEV , JRW VLFN EXW , Ă&#x20AC;QDOO\ JRW P\ Ă&#x20AC;JKW , NQRFNHG WKH JX\ RXW LQ WKH Ă&#x20AC;UVW URXQG DQG KH was 20kgs heavier than me. I was so happy and that was the day that I lost all my fears in OLIH , UHDOLVHG WKDW , FRXOG DFKLHYH DQ\WKLQJ all my doubts and fears were all gone. It was WKH VFDULHVW WKLQJ ,¡YH HYHU JRQH WKURXJK and about 2000 emotions came to me all at RQFH , WKRXJKW WR P\VHOI Âś<RX NQRZ ZKDW" You go through all this hunger, sickness, no life, no family and you achieve your goals and you get past all of your fears, then there is nothing that can stop you.'
+RZ GLG \RXU &DUHHU EHJLQ in Bahrain? $IWHU WKDW Ă&#x20AC;UVW Ă&#x20AC;JKW , FDPH EDFN WR %DKUDLQ and I opened a small gym call Bahrain MMA, and I started to preach the message that I had learnt in Thailand. Bahrain MMA is QRW WKH ELJJHVW J\P LQ %DKUDLQ LW¡V D YHU\ VPDOO KRW XJO\ J\P LW¡V OLNH D GXQJHRQ EXW LW¡V ZKHUH OHJHQGV DUH PDGH ,W¡V ZKHUH Hamza Kooheji and Mohammed Shahid were created. So it all came from a vision of greatness and that is the only lesson I teach KHUH ,W¡V KRW LW¡V WRXJK DQG LW ZLOO PDNH \RX ZDQW WR UXQ EDFN KRPH WKDW¡V KRZ , IHOW WKH Ă&#x20AC;UVW WLPH , ZHQW LQWR WKDW ULQJ EXW LI \RX FDQ stay and go through it then you can become a champion. Eventually, I went to India and met a promoter and I told him I need to get D Ă&#x20AC;JKW , ZDV NJ DQG WKH WLPH DQG WKH JX\ they put me up against is a national boxing champion. He turned out to be 91 kg. I knocked him out in 46 seconds with a head kick and that changed my life. The video went viral and people were showing it around in %DKUDLQ 7KDW¡V ZKHQ , VWDUWHG WR JHW PRUH students here, in my gym.
How did you meet Hamza Kooheji? So, I had this fat kid come to the gym one GD\ DQG VD\ WR PH ´, ZDQW WR EH D Ă&#x20AC;JKWHU Âľ , WKRXJKW WR P\VHOI ´2K Ă&#x20AC;QDOO\ D %DKUDLQL kid that wants to learn MMAâ&#x20AC;?. I ask him his name â&#x20AC;&#x201C; he said, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Hamzah Khooejiâ&#x20AC;?. So I then started teaching him and training him, helping him loose weight and giving him faith, and teaching him to believe in himself, showing KLP WKDW KH FRXOG EH D Ă&#x20AC;JKWHU +H WUDLQHG LQ the same house I trained, and I came to see that these Bahraini guys have a lot of heart. Every Bahraini loves the sport of MMA, and I could see that there was a future for the sport in this country. Hamzah has shown the world that this sport is for Bahraini's. He worked KDUGHU WKDQ DQ\ERG\ ,¡YH HYHU VHHQ KH ZDV not naturally talented, he was not born with skills, he created skills and turned out to be the ELJJHVW VWDU LQ %DKUDLQ¡V 00$ KLVWRU\ , KDG P\VHOI D J\P D %DKUDLQL Ă&#x20AC;JKWHU DQG , NQHZ , had the key to becoming successful in Bahrain.

We started planning and throwing ideas about for what we could do here in Bahrain, and that is how KHK MMA VWDUWHG EDFN LQ :H KDG RXU Ă&#x20AC;UVW JOREDO SUHVV FRQIHUHQFH LQ $XJXVW RI WKDW \HDU ZH had some of the biggest legends behind the XOWLPDWH 00$ Ă&#x20AC;JKWHUV LQ WKH ZRUOG KHUH LQ Bahrain. Within 8 months we had achieved so much.

Why do you think the 'Brave Federatio' and MMA are important for Bahrain? It lends itself to changing the economy and the marketing system of Bahrain, and I feel that, that is where it is going to make the biggest impact, on the business side of Bahrain. We are still struggling in Bahrain to understand how strong social media, and digital platforms are, and how to properly market sporting events and sports. KHK MMA therefore serves as a media platform, and I predict that it is going to become one of the
largest media properties in Asia within the next 2 years. It is going to change how every company in Bahrain looks at their marketing. It has already made a great impact, and it is only going to get bigger.
How do you want to FKDQJH WKH VSRUW" MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world, boxing has existed for over 200 years yet the Middle East has never had boxing events. MMA has only been around for 21 years and it has taken over the GCC. The Middle East now accepts this sport. What we want to do is bring change's to the lives of the athletes. Tell us a little about yourself? I am an international Cosplay artist and I have been lucky enough to have been able to come to Bahrain for the IGN Conference this year. I generally travel around the world, attending different conventions, and judging cosplay competitions. I also illustrate a lot, I work with video games and I design different characters for the games. I really love art, playing the piano and pretty much all video games.
How did your career begin? 0\ FDUHHU EHJDQ ZKHQ , ZDV 0\ Ă&#x20AC;UVW cosplay was for a video game called Ragnarok Online, it was launching back in the Philippines and my sister and I joined a competition for the best dressed character from the game. Unfortunately ZH GLGQ¡W ZLQ EXW LW was okay; because we really enjoyed it, and it was the 'taking part' and getting involved that really mattered. We enjoyed it so much that we just decided to continue doing it, and the rest is history!!
Why did you start getting interested in cosplay? Well I really love art, I love being creative, coming up with new ideas and experimenting
with them , and I also really love playing video games, so for me cosplay was the perfect answer. I get to do two things I really love and enjoy. I can take inspiration from the characters in the video games, and be creative by designing costumes and turning myself into those characters.
What characters inspire you and why? ,¡G KDYH WR VD\ WKH PDLQ FKDUDFWHUV WKDW inspire me are characters from video games, because they are so diverse, and creative. There is always a different hair style, PDNH XS RU RXWĂ&#x20AC;W WR experiment with. As well as the characters not always being human, that becomes a lot of fun because then I can really experiment with my artwork. I would also say that I really believe in Girl Power and I really identify with strong female characters. I think all women should be as strong and as independent as the women are in video games. They have it all, the looks, the attitude and they kick a*#!
What is your favorite character to dress up as and why? I have dressed up as a lot of characters, I'd say around about 50. My favorite one so IDU WKDW ,¡YH GUHVVHG XS DV KDV WR EH *R JR from Big Hero 6. Mainly because younger

it has ever taken me was 4 hours. It really depends on the character though, some of the characters are more complicated, and so it takes longer. For example characters that are monsters, that takes a lot longer then a regular character because I would be using a lot of face paint, different contact lenses, wigs accessories, it all takes time.

What are some of the struggles you have faced either with your career, or getting into the characters themselves, and how have you overcome these? Do you have any advice for our readers that may be interested in getting into cosplay? My advice for readers would be to go to a convention. That is the easiest way to get started because you can see what everyone else is doing and take inspiration from WKHP ,W·V WKH HDVLHVW ZD\ WR OHDUQ EHFDXVH cosplayer's are really nice, friendly people. Rumi was born on September 30, 1207 C. E. in Balkh Province, Afghanistan, then on the eastern edge of the Persian Empire. He descended from a long line of Islamic jurists, theologians, and mystics, including his father, who was known by followers of Rumi as â&#x20AC;&#x153;Sultan of the Scholars.â&#x20AC;? When his father died in 1231, Rumi became head of the Madrasah, or spiritual OHDUQLQJ FRPPXQLW\ 7KH school reportedly had over ten thousand students, including masons, grocers, weavers, hat makers, carpenters, tailors, and bookbinders.
