LETTER Dear readers, Let me start off by wishing all the readers a blessed Ramadan Kareem. Not a lot of people fancy their job, but I must say as the new Deputy Editor of Co-Eds magazine, it has been one crazy and amazing ride. From the wonderful people I have met, to the beginnings of great relationships. I am extremely overwhelmed with the support and the love that all of you have given me. All of you inspire me to do better and I assure you I will not disappoint. Well, let's not get all emotional and let me tell you all about this edition. With Ramadan and summer, this month’s issue is packed with so many spectacular things.

Microsoft Bahrain and Tamkeen celebrated the win of Vanguards Team who was announced one of the three winning teams of the Imagine Cup 2016 Pan Arab SemiFinals. Team Vanguards from Bahrain won in the Games category and will represent Bahrain in Seattle at the 14th Imagine Cup World Finals in July. The Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) recently held a ThoughtLeadership Masterclass entitled “Cyber Security and Global Intelligence Threatsâ€? for executives in the Banking and Finance industry at the BIBF headquarters in Juair.

A Florida man was bitten by an alligator after mistaking it for dead. 41-year-old Bryan Rohm was bitten on the thumb after mistaking an alligator for being dead. He was later taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for WUHDWPHQW 2IÀFLDOV VD\ 5RKP DQG KLV son were on a boat and had a permit to hunt alligators. Brush removed without surgery A Saudi girl in her 20s accidentally swallowed her toothbrush while cleaning her teeth at home in the Gulf kingdom The girl from the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah was rushed to hospital after the brush settled in her stomach. The brush was removed within 20 minutes without surgical intervention. The girl was discharged from hospital on the same day.

A monkey cost Kenya billions of shillings when it caused a countrywide blackout. A nationwide blackout that hit Kenya was caused by a monkey tripping a transformer at a hydropower plant, leading to the loss of more than 180 megawatts from the grid. A monkey climbed on the roof of Gitaru Power Station and dropped onto a transformer tripping it. This caused other machines at the power station to trip on overload which then triggered a national power blackout.

How did you get started with modeling?

What are some of your other hobbies?

Well, I went for a casting for a fashion VKRZ DQG , JRW VHOHFWHG ,W ZDV P\ ÀUVW job and I even got a good pay from it. That was the start and after that I started getting calls for fashion shoots, video shoots and fashion shows.

My hobbies are henna designing, I love creating new designs. I also like to collect data of fancy cars. I will look at their prices, the options, the engine power, etc.

How has your career as a model evolved? At the very start I would get nervous seeing all the media, the crowd and the judges and I would be so afraid I would freak out. Now, I have been modeling for 2 years and it has become my favorite part of the entire experience. I love facing the media and the crowd.

How do you balance your studies, hobbies and modeling? It's really hard to manage my studies, my hobbies and modeling all together but I make WLPH IRU DOO RI WKHP 1RZDGD\V LW¡V DOVR UHDOO\ easy to plan ahead as I have my calendar on y smart p my phone.

How do you unwind i d in i your free time? I mostly relax after a long week by going to the beach, jet skiing, or hanging out with my friends.

Can you recall a funny moment when you were modeling? One of the funniest moments I had was a shoot for Halloween. I was dressed as a black swan and we were on an outside location. These small kids saw me and they started running after me. I will never forget that moment.

With a Master in Collection Design from Polimoda in Italy, Bahraini designer, Hala Kaiksow specializes in appropriating work-wear and traditional garments into a contemporary context; elevating them into wearable art. :KHQ GLG \RXU LQWHUHVW ÀUVW OHDQ WRZDUGV IDVKLRQ GHVLJQ" From a very young age I dreamed of becoming a clothing designer, I then learned to sew and knit garments at the age of ten from my grandmother. I obtained a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the School of Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University with a sculpture concentration in Metals and Glass. I then went on to get a Master in Collection Design from Polimoda in Florence, Italy.

How did you think RI SDUWLFLSDWLQJ LQ WKH ,QWHUQDWLRQDO )DVKLRQ 6KRZFDVH" The IFS is a series of specially commissioned and curated fashion installations featuring work by emerging designers from 25 countries. I was nominated by Obai and Hill to participate and represent Bahrain; the British Council then supported my nomination to be part of the exhibit. Shonagh Marshall, the curator of the event, selected a look from my graduate collection that she felt best tied in to the theme of Utopias and worked best with the exhibit.

That is where the British Council so kindly came in to support me. For the other aspect of the exhibit a country gets a whole room to curate with a group of designers which you apply to through the British Council UK.

:KR ZDV SHUVRQDOO\ \RXU IDYRXULWH GHVLJQHU IURP WKH ,)6" I really enjoyed the work of the two girls representing Argentina, Juiliana and Lucia, their line is called Chain Garcia Bello. The way in which they used materials and construction was extremely interesting. I also loved the designer representing India, Bodice, her use of traditional Indian natural dyeing techniques with western pattern cutting was beautiful. 7HOO XV PRUH DERXW \RXU SHUVRQDO OLIH I was raised in Bahrain; upon graduation high school I went on to get my BFA in Boston at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. I moved to Paris upon graduation to do an intensive fashion design course. Following that, I wanted to develop my aesthetic further so I did my Masters in Fashion Design at Polimoda in Italy.
