The anticipation has been building for months – and tonight’s the night! Almost 1,400 members of the licensing fraternity are now gathered in The Great Room of The Grosvenor House Hotel under the glittering chandeliers – many of you, of course are up for an award, but so many others are here as they just couldn’t bear to miss out on the industry’s big night. Through the ingenuity and support of the event’s sponsors, The Licensing Awards 2014 are well set to be a night to remember, from the moment everyone walked through the door to when you all go home clutching your bulging goody bags!

The Big Build Up

A Night To

Remember

Making A Grand Entrance

Sponsor Support The Licensing Awards just would not happen without the support and endorsement of the leading companies who make up the strong roster of sponsors and associate sponsors. With the profile of licensed products (and retailers’ interest in them) growing at its trade exhibitions, i2i Events (organisers of Spring Fair International and Autumn Fair International) had no hesitation in continuing as headline sponsor of The Licensing Awards for the fourth year running. Meanwhile, again giving the awards its full support is the licensing industry’s trade association, LIMA.

With everyone arriving done up like a ‘dog’s dinner’ for the industry’s ‘big night’, fittingly you were suitably greeted by a famous UK canine – a giant Gromit Unleashed sculpture. Then, it was straight into ‘CBeebies land’ – as the entrance way was transformed into a fantastic area (thanks to the BBC). Sponsors (and their guests) had the added advantage of being able to start the party a bit earlier – thanks to a first class service from Expose Travel, sponsor of the Sponsors’ Reception. Meanwhile, the main Cocktail Reception, sponsored by SEGA saw the serious schmoozing and champagne supping getting well underway! And, everyone can stay looking beautiful, thanks to the My Little Pony Beautification Station, sponsored by Claire’s! Above: Gromit set the tone for a ‘larger than life’ event.

The Big Build Up Feeling Flushed?

Even answering the call of nature at the awards is a treat – thanks to sponsors H&A who has given ‘the ladies’ a Me to You makeover while ‘the gents’ is transformed into a Matey world. In what has become a very popular element of awards, H&A have festooned the ‘little boys rooms’ and ‘ladies powder rooms’ with lots of lovely goodies for people to take away with them. Inset and below: The toilets are transformed into mini Me to You and Matey worlds.

Left: The countdown to the Rugby World Cup in 2015 has begun! Right: Blue Sky Designs have provided the pens for the event. Far right: The ‘up to the minute’ watches that form the napkin rings. Below centre: Dependable Solutions had the wine ‘collared’. Bottom: Icon Live add some extra adornment with the wearable namecards. Bottom right: Angry Birds and Stella add style to the chairs.

Lots Of Table Talk

The chairs and tables are dressed up to the nines – with Angry Birds and Stella seat covers! (thanks to Rovio and Character World) and there is bound to be a battle as to who gets to take home the stunning Mattel tablecentres. Everyone is being kept safely ‘in their place’, thanks to Icon Live for the wearable Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse ‘placecards’ while even the wine bottles are well dressed (thanks to the Dependable Solutions for wine collars) And no one needs to miss a second of it, by donning the napkin rings – which are Strange Hill High watches (thanks to Zeon and Fremantle) while the My Little Pony pens (from Blue Sky Design) means that everyone can make a note of the winners in glorious technicolour and ensure their names are on the raffle tickets. And, joining the scrum is an RFU keepsake mug from Pyramid. Above: The Barbie centrepieces were always going to be a very popular element.

The Big Build Up

Left: A yummy end to the meal thanks to Kinnerton.

Above: Henri le Worm has wiggled his way onto the coasters. Right: Beams took it as a ‘condiment’ to be asked to sponsor the salt and pepper pots for Guinness!

Information Is King Knowing what all the fuss is about and ensuring that everyone is in the right place at the right time has been down to a gorgeous bunch. There was an even more frantic clamor for tickets for The Licensing Awards 2014, with Advanstar (organiser of Brand Licensing Europe) sponsoring the official invitation for this year’s event. Meanwhile, helping to build the momentum has been down to the blogging, blasting and tweeting skills of Kilogrammedia (PR sponsor, headed up by the one and only Jane Garner). Right: The official ticket for this year’s event was And the truly fantabulous Bionic boys sponsored and produced by BLE organiser, Advanstar. have kept up the pace on the website while online sponsor Licensing.biz spread the love even further and wider into every nook and cranny. And with everyone ‘izzy wizzy let’s get busy’ on the networking front, Sooty and co are the ideal characters to front the lightboxes which list people’s whereabouts (sponsored by Redan)

Right: There is a lot more than just leaves on the menu thankfully!

The Hungry Games

It is not just caterpillars that get hungry, but it being the 45th anniversary of Eric Carle’s celebrated character, this year’s menu is sponsored by The Very Hungry Caterpillar (thanks to Rocket). And coast(er)ing his way onto the table is fellow invertebrate, Henri le Worm. And if any extra seasoning is required, help is at hand in the form of the Guinness salt and pepper pots (sponsored by Beams). And to round off a gourmet meal are some extra special chocolatey treats, thanks to Kinnerton.

Above: Sooty, Sweep and Soo are here too – on the lightboxes. Left: The Awards’ website was designed and managed by Bionic.

Being Miles Away Top comedian Miles Jupp will be putting his award winning comedic stamp on the event as the host for The Licensing Awards ceremony this year. A well known face and voice on the humorous circuit, Miles’ distinctive style of comedy lends itself perfectly to the licensing crowd.

The Big Build Up

Right: The Thunderbirds will be giving the ‘3,2,1 FAB liftoff to the awards. Below: There will be plenty of ‘space’ for The Clangers.

Screen And Page

The evening will be peppered with animation surprises created specially for the evening – it will be a FAB countdown for starters, thanks to ITV’s Thunderbirds lift off! Dropping a few ‘Clangers’ is Coolabi’s ‘out of this world’ footage, while even chef Raymond Blanc has ‘wormed’ his way onto the big screen at the event. FremantleMedia will attract attention to TreeFu Tom, Kate and Mim-Mim, Danger Mouse and Strange Hill High through its banner adverts all round the perimeter of the room, while Ragdoll has the awards brochure covered with a special Teletubbies creation on the front. Meanwhile, you will need to watch your step as the room will be ‘Peppa-red’ with some special muddy puddle! Right: The front cover of the awards brochure. Below: It will be a Fremantle character frenzy on the balustrade screens.

Above: Expect some muddy puddle action!

High Rollers, Snappers And Munchers

Hitting The High Notes

After the official awards there is plenty more going on back upstairs. It is all to play for in the Hasbro Monopoly casino, with some really great prizes to be won. 1 Back by popular demand, 1 is the Nickelodeon photobooth so that special memories can be captured on film (and shared on the big screen!) All budding performers will be able to ‘do their stuff’ in a fantastic Disney Frozen karaoke room (sponsored by Disney). For those having an attack of the munchies, there will be a Tango popcorn cart (thanks to Britvic and Start) as well as lots of free Pringles (thanks to Pink Key Consulting).

Providing some melodious and beautiful high notes to the evening’s proceedings are the much talked about Tootsie Rollers (represented by Game Of Two Halves) while, after the awards are over, The Lionels will be doing their stuff, no doubt resulting in plenty of action on the dancefloor from the industry’s ‘Travoltas’!

Above: The Tootsie Rollers are attractive to look at and wonderful to listen to. Left: A Frozen karaoke room will no doubt prove very popular!

The Bulging Sack

As has become customary at The Licensing Awards, the goody bag is worth coming to the event for in itself. The ‘bulging sack’, wonderfully produced by Character World, will this year be more bulging with goodies than ever before!
