Tonight is a fabulous opportunity to recognise and reward excellence on both sides of the industry. The widespread support for the formation of these united Gift Awards, testified by the strong roster of sponsors, as well as the high level of engagement with the Gift of the Year and The Greats - by all who entered, nominated and judged - further underlines their importance and status as accolades that do the industry proud. To get the party started, a glass of bubbly at the drinks reception will be followed by a delicious Awards dinner, specially created by the chefs at the Royal Lancaster, with the winners of the Gift

It was extremely encouraging to see so many advances being made in the industry, and products being delivered with some real purpose and call to consumer action. After the judging, I went away with a new list of stands to find. These were companies that I wanted to buy from and have since done so.” She continued: “I came to the conclusion that values really matter to me – the packaging, the ethos of the company and the product, especially in the eco categories. All in all, it gave me great hope that British design is alive and bright and has a wonderful year ahead.” Jo Williams, owner of Joco in Nuneaton, was another retail judge commending the high standard of entries. “Choosing the top three from each category wasn’t easy,” admitted Jo. “I took into account the potential interest in the product, it's longevity and interest through its use, the look and feel, the quality and the RRP, because these are all the things my customers look for when deciding on their purchases.”

Congratulations to all The Greats and GOTY finalists Cardzone is a specialist card and gift retailer trading from over 180 stores nationwide. In the last five years the group has driven more emphasis on its gifting ranges which have helped offer customers increased variety when they shop in the stores and therefore give customers another reason to shop with Cardzone. One of Cardzone’s group mission statements is to be the solution for any type of card and gift business on the high street. What this means is that our ambitions are to be able to cater for any type of card and gift store, ranging from a really value or wholesale type store, to an extremely premium or upmarket store. We recognise no two stores are the same and to offer our customers exactly what they want we have to be a lot better than one dimensional or ‘one size fits all’. To achieve this, we now strive to have trading partnerships with a large variety of suppliers without whom this goal is definitely not achievable! To name a couple of examples within our business currently, almost 10 years ago we acquired a group of 14 value card and gift stores in Wales trading as Card Centre. Today, we still have 14 Card Centre stores trading in Wales and it is clear that these stores need a very different mix
Cardzone_The Greats_GOTY 2022.indd 1
of products to many others in the business. Value for money is vital, this could be through offering value type gifting or clearance products which we pass on to our customers through strong promotions. On the flipside, last year we acquired a group of gift stores in Northamptonshire trading as Mooch. These stores are almost the complete opposite and are far less price sensitive with a totally different customer base and therefore expectation when they shop with us. We would encourage any supplier with truly fantastic products or excellent value for money offers to reach out to us as there are lots more opportunities available within the group than ever before! The same point applies to any retailers contemplating selling in the card and gift industry, please don’t hesitate to get in touch as we will always have a conversation to explore any opportunities there may be. James Taylor, director of Cardzone james@cardzoneltd.com
