The creation of superbrands (with a case-study on Abercrombie and Fitch)
Andy Broadey Dissertation Tutor Rationale (200 words) I want this year to be focused on ‘a concept driven investigation of branding and identity with a focus on design for print.’ In this case, I mean that concept driven as the identities not all being solely type or image based, but whatever will be the most appropriate response for the company/event/brand. I like to have a problem set out for me to solve as I find that I can work best in this way. I want to focus on design for print as I feel that this is where my strengths lie. Although I still wish to show a consideration for other media, such as web, I don’t want this to become the main focus of my practice. Through designing relevant products and promotional material for each of the briefs as part of the range on which the identity will be applied, I am intending to still be able to evidence my type and layout skills on the likes of brochures/flyers/packaging, etc, this also allows for some other resolutions to be evidenced in my portfolio. As designing for print is going to be one of the main focuses of my work. I want to be learn more about print processes so that my work can become more informed and provide the most appropriate response.
Statement of Intent (SOI) - (400 words) The main objective of this year, and these briefs, is to provide me with a body of work that is worthy of going into m portfolio. Along the way, I hope to find out more about print processes, through the use of workshops, and also to be able to investigate branding and identity further. While I have selected 4 briefs to become the main ones for the module, I also intend to select a D&AD, YCN or ISTD competition brief and to take part in live briefs. These will be of a quicker turnaround. I would also like to collaborate at some point in the year, both within the course and cross-course.

Brief 3 Design for Retail Design an identity, packaging and promotional material for a clothing store. The range will include bags, tags, proposed website and a booklet.
4.
Brief 4 Hotel Design a visual identity for a new hotel. Create the promotional material based around this new identity. This will include a hotel brochure and other promotional materials.
ADDITIONAL BRIEFS Competition brief(s) – YCN/ D&AD/ ISTD Live briefs Collaboration – within the course as part of a design team, as well as hopefully cross-course as I would like to do the branding and a look-book for someone.
