Three solitary trees
Literal: Describe what you see in the photograph and what you don’t see (what is just out of frame) In the photograph i can see 3 trees- each nearly bare from leaves, and looking weak and fragile. There is a dull sky with no other features but behind the trees there is a lighter tone. The trees haves produced a small shadow. There is a clear horoizon line and the height of the trees is distored due to not knowing how close the artist is to them. Techniqual: What are the technical considerations that the photogra pher has had to make in taking this photograph? I think that the techniqual considerations that have been made are the distored knowledge of the size of the trees. Another consideration made would have been to get the horizon so definative and clear, this gives the sense of the never ending world. Another techniqual consideration would be the time of day in which the photo was taken to get the shadow to be infront of the trees and the sun behing- futhermore ensuring that the sun isnt in the photo just the trees. Symbolic: Which of these human conditions are present in the pho tograph? In the photo there are many human conditions presnted. firstly the idea of lonliness and isolated when really you are not alone. Weakness is presnted strongly through the brittle look of the trees. Also the overall tone of the photo presents sorrow and depressive tones, due to the dark colours and little life. Cultural: What are the cultural references in the photograph? Within the photograph I think that the cultural references are the idea of nature and landscaping, this is shown through the trees and the grass with the very noticable horizon splitting the page.

What i can see: I can see a foggy green toned sky, that is submerging trees into its hold. I can see a road that appears never ending until it gets to the fog and vanishes. There is trees and shrubs surrounding the road, that is modertly covered in a layer of snow. The intirity of the image appears to have a overlay on it due to its green tone and distorted colour of the trees. Senses: Sound: there would be no sound, complete silence apart from prehaps the occasional animal. There is no cars therefore no noise pollution from them. Silence. Taste: You would be able to taste the bitter cold air and the thickness of the clouds/fog, The nature surrounding would give off a taste of purity and clarity. Feel: You would be able to feel the cold soft snow, melt between your fingers. The harsh and rough feel of the concrete on the road. The delightness of the bark holding onto the trees. Smell: You would be able to smell purity and freshness that the trees are releaseing and leaking. Also the fresh taste of the pure snow falling on your tounge and the water particles in the sky. Similie: Peace is like the tranquiltiy the road offers and the silence that is profound

Similarties: Between the two photos there are a range of things similar, firstlty the theme of nature and trees. Secondly the way in which the trees that feauture are both bare and brittle. The angle that the trees have been taken on are similiar due to the viewer not really knowng how large or small the trees are due to not knowing what perspective the photos were taken at. Furthermore the depressive tone and dull colours are conveyed through both photos. The sky is a big part of both of the photos both having limited tones and colours but both being the main part of the background for the photograph. Differences: In the first image there is a clear horizon and a split in the photograh whereas in the second photo the whole image merges together causing it to look more misplaced. In the first image there is more of a colour range than in the second onethere is green, a moogy blue and brown for the trees. Whereas in the second image there is simply brown for the trees and a brownish white for the sky. In the first image the trees are in a ordely state, whereas in the second image they look more naturally placed. Literaly Difference and Similarities: theme of nature and trees, The trees that feauture are both bare and brittle, The sky is a big part of both of the photos, second image they look more naturally placed. Techniqual Differences and similarities:not really knowng how large or small the trees are due to not knowing what perspective the photos were taken at. depressive tone and dull colours are conveyed through both photoshe sky is a big part of both of the photos both having limited tones and colours but both being the main part of the background
Symbolic differences and similarities: Both symbolise nature and have the theme of trees. The deeper meaning of the bare and brittle trees in in the images could represent the break down of the world and the affect it is having on the nature Cultural Differences and similarities; Both the photos have a Europen tone due to tree type and the atmosophere that is presentedthrough the landscape and colours.

A TRIPOD was used to capture the split image, this enabled the photographer to take a landscape image, whilst it capturing everything that he intended due to it enabling the camera to have a broad specturm.
SPLIT TONE, has been used to divide the photo into colour and mono. This gives the image a unusual edge and makes it very eyecatching.

Tecnqiue FiveGuide to Writing about Photographs Describe the mood and atmosphere of the photograph The mood of the photograph is very mormid and confusing, this is created through the lack of colorful and the surreal merging of the cloud and tree. The atmopshere within the photo is death like and cold, with no life in the photo. The confusion presented creates a mysterious mood which adds to the cold atmosphere. How is the picture composed in terms of blocks of colour? The photo is composed of block colours due to the first layer being the sky, then the white on the cloud and finally the moss like green on the ground. The layers split the photo up into realsitic and surreal. The colours that are used are all quiet toned which realates to the mood and atmosphere that it creates. Describe why you have chosen this particular photographer . What do you like about their work? I have chosen this photographer as I like the surrealism that they have used, The link to my work, is highlighting the natural world, this image does it perfectly as it shows two different elements merged into one. I like the way in which Luigi has joined to elements to create one. Also the Merky and deep colours which enables the tree to stand out more.

There is also a Large mirror that takes up nearly the whole image. The relfection within the mirror is a tree, with folage surrounding it. There is brighter lightening in the mirrors relflection, compared to on the surronding grass. What interests you most about this work of art? The relfection of the tree with the enhanced light is what intrests me most, also how the viewer of the image is unable to see what is around the image, the photographer has had full control of what we can see.

LEVEL 2 ( ‘D’ GRADE ) Assessment Objective 1 Understand it. What equipment, techniques and processes have been used to make the image? How does this affect the way we view it? I believe that photoshop has been used to create the layerd affect of the images and black background. This causes me to condsider and ponder the prospects of where the original images came from and what their original background was. What does this photograph remind you of? The photograph reminds me of space with the black background and the images of the natural creatures remind me of the planets. How would you describe the lines in this picture? there isnt a visual/drawn line in the picture, however the objects that are on the photograph all are placed in a corrosponding way. The colors/tones- there isnt much colour in the photo, the background in black and then the natural objects are the pop of colour- some being green and brown. The textures- The textures are the textures of the creatures so the fur and skin of them enables the veiwer to have a sense of what they feel like. How has the photographer captured the play of light in this image? There isnt a play of light in this photograph. How is this picture different from real life? It is very different to real life, there is no sunlight, no water, just a large blank, mormid black space. What interests you most about this work of art? The deeper and symbolic meaning of the photograph and also what the creators intentions were.
LEVEL 4 ( ‘B’ GRADE ) Assessment Objective 1 Interpret it. What title would you give to this photograph? I would name this photograph the ‘forever flowing of nature’ this is because the natural creatures appear to be flowing/floating through a never ending black space. What other titles could we give it? It could also be named- ‘Black with specs of life’or ‘ ending in darkness’. What do you think is going on in this picture? In the photo i think that the photgrapher has taken an creature from each country and then but them on a black space to show that every creature is equal no matter where theyre from. How did you arrive at that idea?i came to this idea from the title and also trying to find the true deeper symbolic meaning. What do you think this photograph is about? I have different ideas on what this photgraph could be one idea being that the photographer has taken one creaute from each country in the title and then used it to symbolise equality. How did you come up that idea? i came up with this idea due to to wanting to find a deeper meaning or general meaning to this photograph. Pretend you are inside this photograph. What does it feel like? if i were inside this photo i would feel lost, hopeless and trapper. Why do you suppose the artist made this photograph? I think the photographer made this due to the every lasting problem or men and women rights and also racial equality. What makes you think that? how there are different species from all around the world in thephoto. What do you think it would be like to live in this photograph? very difficult due to there being no water and a lack of food and no sunlight- the essentials to what a human needs to survive. What makes you think that? The fact that there essentituals arent shown in the image- just darkeness. LEVEL 5 ( ‘A’ GRADE ) Assessment Objective 1 Evaluate it. What do you think is effective about this photograph? The way in which the viewers eyes will be drawn directly to the main part of the photograph, due to the black background. What doesn’t work so well? The layout of the creatures although i am sure that there is a reason for this, they are un organised and this causes the reader to scrabmle around whilst looking at the photo. What do you think other people would say about this work? Other people may say that they dont like this work due to it being very close between real life and then a strong shift of not life like, this may cause them to dislike the image due to the confusion. Why do you think that? i think this due to other people interpreting work differently they may feel unorganised by the work but also find it hard to gather the idea of the compltete black space hard to understand. What do you think is worth remembering about this photograph? I think the way in which the black space is used to make the main part of the photo stand out is a good affect to remeber. Create a photographic response to this image. What did you choose to create and why? How does it compare to the original stimulus? What have you learned from exploring this work of art?
