August M C ALLEN COUNTRY CLUB

2021

Dear MCC Members, As I mentioned last month, the 2021 Member Survey will be conducted in September this year. Ted Robinson from Private Club Associates has been hired again to conduct our survey. Focus Groups will be held on Tuesday, August 31st. The survey will be sent digitally in September with results presented sometime in October. It provides the Board and management with another tool for providing a better member experience as well as a means for strategic planning. I truly hope each and every member will take time to have their voice heard. It is imperative for our future. More specifics to come. Also, Golf Pro, Mike Perez has hired 2 new marshals for the golf course – Samuel Califa and Douglas Rollman while John Stegall and Ron Stephens continue their work. Please know they are expected to not only monitor pace of play, confirm cart rentals, and keep sand available, but Mike has also asked them to monitor behavior on course and enforce club rules. So please fill your divots, fix your ball marks, rake your bunkers, and adhere to the dress code. Also, and very importantly, all alcoholic beverages MUST be purchased from the club. Not only is it against club policy, but it is also against the law; TABC is very specific with our liquor license. Marshals will be keeping an eye on this too. For your convenience, the club has purchased collapsible coolers to use (and return) to the Roost. Thank you for your help. The 2021 fiscal year was completed on June 30th. We started the year with uncertainty and hesitation as no one knew where the pandemic would take us, but thanks to leadership of Board, the dedication of all staff, and especially, the support of all our members, we collectively made it a very successful year. Don’t forget, not only did we deal with the coronavirus, but we also had Hurricane Hanna as well as the winter freeze to endure. In the end, MCC ended up with a net 71 new members and our second most profitable year in the last fifteen. All I can say is we did it together. THANK YOU! Lastly, make plans to join us on Saturday, August 21st for the 75th Anniversary Pool Party from 4-10pm. December 4th is our Annual Member Christmas Party – we will also be celebrating the club’s 75th Anniversary with all sorts of surprises. I look forward to seeing you around your club, Jeff

GOLF AT MCC At the beginning of Four-Ball League, there were fourteen teams all looking to make their mark. After seven weeks, the field was split; half with a chance and the other praying they had a chance. We gave those in the bottom half a Second Chance Tournament to keep their interest in the league and coming out to compete. The top half kept going after it. After thirteen weeks, it was over. The team of Dr. Jesus Guerra and Dr. Art Salinas were the victors. They were 9 points ahead of second. The team of Alan Malkasian, John Tippit, and Bradley Stephens won the Second Chance Tournament. Thank you to everyone who participated and give it their all. The Fourth of July is always a day to celebrate. We do our part at McAllen Country Club with an amazing pool party and golf tournament. This year, the Fourth fell on a Sunday. This did not stop anyone from coming out and playing in our Flag Tournament. The annual Flag Tournament requires our participating golfers to place an American flag on the spot their final handicap stroke comes to rest. You will always see flags placed on the 16th, 17th and a few on the 18th hole. But there are always those special players that exceed their handicap. They play so well they have shots to spare and must play on. This year, we had three. John Kittleman was able to finish nine feet from the hole on his 19th hole to win. In second place, Julian Zendejas was left with fourteen feet on his 19th hole. In third place, Sunil Wadhwani left himself 14 yards from the green on his 19th hole. McAllen Country Club held a recent New Member Orientation on July 16th. There were 10 new members in attendance. New members were served a complimentary breakfast as they were informed about golf course usage, discounts, programs and other pertinent information concerning the golf department. Afterwards, there was a nine hole scramble to allow the new members to better know each other and the staff. Everyone had a good time and made new friends. Our next New Member Orientation will be held on August 7th. The Junior Golf Camps will come to an end the week of August 3rd. It has been another awesome summer of golf; there are definitely some future golf super stars here at the Club. There were many familiar faces and some fresh new ones. Buddies were made and hopefully, we get to see the kids out here more than just during the summer. Lastly, Matthew Gonzales, our assistant golf professional, will be leaving us. We wish him the best and know he will do great. Mike

TENNIS AT MCC Dear Members, Thank you for supporting the Tennis Camp this summer! The campers were excited and eager to return to the courts to swing their racquets. The camp brought a greater awareness of the importance of teamwork, exercise, and creating new friendships. The youth were encouraged daily to improve upon their tennis game. The campers participated in sessions that emphasized skill development and conditioning and they were also exposed to a variety of drills, games and activities that taught them the tennis fundamentals. The athletes enjoyed personalized instruction on technique, the importance of court awareness, and rules of the tennis game. The kids put their skills to the test by taking part in match play scenarios and fun contests to test their skill level. The Tennis Camp was a great success! The campers

had a wonderful opportunity to experience how fun and challenging tennis can be for anyone of any age. We look forward to seeing all of you next summer! Have a great school year! Rudi
