Dear MCC Members,

The Pool House and Tennis Shop demo have started; our goal is to finish the project well before Summer. The temporary Tennis Office and bathrooms are in place. We’ll try to make the process as painless as possible, and hopefully the project will be over soon.

Also noted in the calendar, Monday, February 20th is a Federal Holiday, celebrating Washington’s Birthday. The Golf Shop and course will be open until 5pm; however, the rest of the club will not be open.

As I’ve stated many times: what a great time to be a member of McAllen Country Club.

With that, I look forward to seeing you around your club, Jeff

Dear MCC Members,

I want to thank all those who continue to show their support for our member dining. The Lunar New Year celebration is something we have been growing and is in its third year I am so pleased that it has grown and well received over the years; it is a celebration close to my heart, so thank you for your support. The Lychee Nut Martini was a hit!

Regarding close to the heart, Valentine's Day service will be a different approach this year We will be providing a different dining experience than the years prior. I feel this should and will be special.

Last but certainly not least, soup on Saturdays will be on a rotation. Heads up, navy bean soup lovers, it will be part of our rotation. I'm thinking lobster bisque, broccoli cheese, and the new favorite, roasted red pepper and smoked gouda bisque, to name a few.

Already so much going on, from soup to nuts, that starts up the year so far!

Dear MCC Members,

The 27th playing of the Año Nuevo was an exciting event for everyone who participated. The weather and golf course were the ultimate winners. Even with the course play difficult, there were still some great rounds. In Flight One, the team of Calvin Lackey and Yil Durak did what they doWIN This is back-to-back win for Calvin Finishing in second place was the team of LD Clopton and Joe Lasiter. In Flight Two, there was a tie for 1st place. It went to a scorecard playoff with the team of Lincoln Talbert and Bobby Talbert winning. The team of Kenny Hartley and Corey Hartley were unable to par the 16th hole which cost them the playoff win. In Flight Three, our Houston boys, Mark Bing and Michael Michalka, were able to hold on to their lead and win. In second place, the team of Barry Young and Bruce Garcia were able to make a nice comeback to secure their finish. In Flight Four, the team of Robert Garza and Phil MacLaird battled their demons and continued their steady play to win. Their long-term rivals, Dr. Salil Mangi and Dr. Victor Haddad, just couldn’t make up the difference and finished in second A big thank you to everyone who competed. For tournament results visit the website www.mcc2023anonuevo.golfgenius.com. The GGID for the event will be DYJCND.

The Titleist Practice balls are back at the driving range.

On January 11th, McAllen Country Club hosted the All Valley Women’s Golf Association. The event had 59 women from all over the Valley competing. Eleven of our women competed to win their respective flights. In Flight One, Brittany Gabrielson played some solid golf to place 2nd Low Gross. Playing equally well, Abbey Ater was able to capture 2nd Low Net. In Flight Two, Keesha Zey played well and captured 2nd Low Net In Flight Three, Sharon Martin played great to capture 1st Low Gross. In Flight Four, Jody Jones wasn’t going to let the Club down and captured 2nd Low Gross. Great playing!! Also representing the Club was Lydia Couch, Marianne Seal, Paik-Hee Nam, Catherine Sanchez, Linda Whitis and Beverly Stansberry. Thank you all for representing the Club.
