Dear MCC Members, Happy February! We continue to work toward completion of our Strategic Plan; I will share once finished. I implore every member to keep an eye on their children at all times. I cannot count how many times we find children on the golf course unattended. I understand that kids are full of energy, but the golf course can be a very dangerous place. Please know that it is not okay to let your children on the #10 tee box, or even the grassy area by the lake. The last thing anyone wants is to have someone get hurt. Also, the Board voted this week to approve an updated Delinquency Policy. Not only are late fees and its accompanied administrative fees raised, but your membership will be suspended after the 30-day grace period instead of 60 days. I understand that we have glitches with banks or US Postal Service, or even our mistakes, and those will be addressed on an individual basis. The spirit of the change focuses on habitual late paying members. For those who pay on time - thank you! Lastly, when you use any of the club facilities (golf, tennis, fitness, pool), please remember to sign in (+ guests) every time. Please know that we track usage in all venues. It helps me and the Board determine where capital funding needs to be applied. Truly appreciate your help. With that, I look forward to seeing you around your club,

Jeff

Dear Members, The 2024 Año Nuevo had Chamber of Commerce weather. I want to express my gratitude to Patrick, the Golf Course Superintendent, for he and his crews' tremendous efforts in getting the course in great shape. Chef Temoshi, Veronica, and their staff did an amazing job with the food and service, which was first class. With such great conditions, we witnessed some great scores. In Flight One, we saw the dynamic duo of Roland Gonzalez and Lance Kirby posted rounds of 96 & 100 to solidify first place. Calvin Lackey and Yil Durak put on a show on day two, but they fell two strokes short. In Flight Two, the team of LD Clopton and Chris Coleman played some great “brother-in-law” golf and captured first place. They finished five strokes ahead of the second-place team, Eduardo Diaz and Tony Trad. In Flight Three, Neil Chavez and Hernan Mireles pushed each other to their limits. The best teams always push each other, and these guys did an amazing job. The second-place team is the father and son duo of David and Chase Seal. In Flight Four, Benton Beckwith and Phil MacLaird came together by chance after their respective playing partners couldn’t compete. They played brilliantly and won by six strokes. They defeated the second-place team of Mike Hayes and Robert Simmons from San Antonio. You can find full tournament results on www.mcc-2024aonuevo.golfgenius.com. Use the GGID code: GUZJPA I will be starting up an after-school golf camp for kids ages 5-12. The program will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-6:00pm. The focus will be long-term athletic development. The LTAD approach focuses on having kids perform age-appropriate skill acquisition drills to maximize their athletic potential. It progressively gets more complicated and more specialized as the athlete develops and reaches the next level of development. There will be plenty of golf-specific instruction. At its core, we want to develop future superstar athletes. Sessions will begin on Feb. 13th. Stop by or call the Golf Pro Shop for more information. We will kick off a new Family Golf Fun Day once a month. We want to bring families together to enjoy themselves through golf. MCC families can bring mom, dad, sisters and brothers and they don’t necessarily need to know how to play golf. This is going to be a 9-hole family scramble. We will have teeing areas on each hole for appropriate skill levels. Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 18th. Shotgun start at 3:30PM. Stop by or call the Golf Pro Shop for more information. I will be holding a Parent-Child tournament. This will be a more serious event. This will take place on February 25th . That’s plenty of time to get your games geared up and primed for action.
