M C ALLEN COUNTRY CLUB

2021

Dear MCC Members, You will notice that some staff is no longer wearing face coverings. The club policy is that facemasks remain mandatory for all staff. However, if any staff member wants to voluntarily prove vaccination to our HR department, he/she no longer must wear a face covering in the clubhouse. I will no longer be wearing mine. Hopefully, this will all end soon. Also, as I’ve mentioned over the last few months, moving forward, the MCC newsletter will be transmitted via email. Please continue to keep your contact information up to date; if your email address or phone number has changed recently, a quick call our office can remedy that. Also, we are able to send multiple newsletters to each membership. One to your spouse, one to work, one to the kids – just let us know. If you haven’t had an opportunity to see the commemorative 75th anniversary clock tower and member pavers, please find time to do so. It’s directly across from the pool on the golf course. What a neat project to be enjoyed by all. The Board approved another club-wide, in depth survey (like the one from 2017) to be conducted in late August. Once plans are formalized, I will be reaching out with more details. It is a means to gauge how we are doing, what we can do better, and your perspective on the future of MCC. Mark your calendars for both Saturday, August 21st for the 75th Anniversary Celebration at the Pool, and December 4th for the club’s Annual Christmas party and 75th Anniversary Spectacular. Both will be events NOT to be missed. I look forward to seeing you around your club, Jeff

Sending our Deepest Condolences to the La Mantia, Gillespie, and Milano Families. Page 1

GOLF AT MCC

The 2021 Open started with some serious rain. It was enough to cancel the first round and cause us to rethink how we played a few holes. The first round, alternate shot, was cancelled. Round two was played over 15 holes with hole 3 playing as a par three. The format of play, the final two days, was Low Ball and Scramble, respectively. There were two holes-in-one during the tournament. The guest of Miguel Del Angel Sr., Rudy Rivas, aced #3 on day two. Dr. Antonio DeGorordo aced #3 on day three. It was a crazy weekend, but the golfers had a great time. In Flight One, two teams remained tied after the completion of the tournament. The winner would be decided in a scorecard playoff. Winning the playoff on the fourth hole was the team of Henry Temkin and Rene Lopez. Josh Stewart and Travis Stansberry made a nice sized snake on the last hole but it wasn’t enough. Their team finished in second. In Flight Two, the team of Ben Smith and Brian Reilly shot the lowest final round in their flight to win by three shots. The team of Foued Abboud and Antonio Ruiz finished in second place. In Flight Three, the team of Sunil Wadhwani and Sameer Wadhwani showed no mercy. They finished with a 63 which was good enough to lock in their victory. The team of Alan Malkasian and Dr. Jesus Guerra finished in second place. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone that competed. It was a rough start but with patience and some hard work from Patrick Affolder, Golf Course Superintendent, and his crew; we were able to get it done. The tournament website is www.mcc-theopen2021.golfgenius.com with the GGID: MQXTAU July 26th, McAllen Country Club will play host to the STPGA Junior Golf Tournament.

Hole-in-one Alfredo Montanero joined the ranks of the elite: the Ace’s Club. th On Saturday, June 19 , Alfredo stood on the 2nd hole with 4 hybrid in hand. The hole was playing 171 yards into a breeze. His shot was pure and headed right at the pin. At first, he thought it went over the green, but when he and Brian Humphreys looked into the hole; it was a confirmed ACE!! The ace was witness by Brian, Dr. Antonio DeGorordo and Dr. JJ Saenz Jr.

TENNIS AT MCC Dear Members, Summer is here with plenty of activities at the club for all to enjoy. Our campers are improving their tennis game daily in a great environment that promotes fitness, a competitive spirit, fun, self-confidence, and the ability to fine tune their teamwork skills. Our goal is to teach campers of all ages the basic fundamentals of the game through effective communication, thoughtfulness, and encouragement. The staff takes a great deal of pride in offering every camper personal attention to assist him/her in becoming a better player. Campers have the opportunity to implement skills, techniques, and match play strategies they are learning in tennis camp. The campers learn hand and eye coordination while simultaneously improving their cardiovascular conditioning.

The children also fine tune their skills through practice sessions, drills, and match play to get them prepared to compete. Tennis provides campers with the opportunity to socialize with different types of athletes, develop life long friendships, and instill the discipline to achieve personal goals. Tennis is also a wonderful sport for adults interested in playing competitively, recreationally or simply used as a tool to diminish stress and get some exercise. Tennis enhances agility, mental acuity and physical conditioning that can prove beneficial in a multitude of contexts.
