McAllen Country Club June Newsletter 2023

Dear MCC Members,

Pool house / Tennis renovation continues with its completion on the horizon A special thank you to the Sports Committee for their time, energy, and effort in making the project a success We’re still sticking with the late June completion date

Also, I’d like to mention the promotion of Juan Solis from waiter to Dining Room Manager. Juan has been with the club for over 15 years. Congratulations Juan! I’m so excited for you joining the MCC management team.

Joining Juan is Judith Moreno as the other Dining Room Manager She has a world of experience in the area of private clubs, having worked for ClubCorp and area hotels I know she will make a great addition

Their responsibilities include supervising all waitstaff and bartenders, hiring, training, and accountability of the service staff My directive is to take service from good to consistently stellar. I know they will contribute to enhancing the member experience.

If you haven’t already, please sign up for CLUBSTER. We are transitioning to this club-specific, member only app which allows us to communicate with our members in real time.

Lastly, we continue with a full membership with a waitlist As I’ve stated many times: what a great time to be a member of McAllen Country Club

With that, I look forward to seeing you around your club, Jeff

The storm on April 28th -29th was one to remember. It has been a long time since we have had a major storm do as much damage to the course as this one did. I want to thank

Patrick and his crew for doing an amazing job The course looks great There are still a few tree branches that need to be taken down as well as trees that will be removed. A big thank you to Jacinto “Tato” Tamez for lending the club his dump trailer. This really allowed Patrick to get the course ready faster than expected.

The damages to the course forced us to cancel the final round of the Member-Guest

The two round total will be the official final scores for the 2023 Member-Guest Congratulations to Sameer Wadhwani and his guest, Temo De La Fuente!!

We have a new name to add to the hole-in-one list. During the practice round of the Member-Guest, Dr Giraldo aced the 8 th hole; his first at the club Congratulations, Doc!!

Dr. Alvaro Rodriguez, Dr. Oscar Alvarez, Dr. Juan Guardia witnessed the hole-in-one.

The Member-Guest is in our rear-view mirror, but we still had a special raffle to finish up.

The raffle was held at the Casi Medio Tournament The winners are Jaboney Rodriguez (Titleist Shag Bag), Miguel Del Angel Jr (Titleist Cart Bag), Travis Stansberry (TaylorMade Driver) and Garrison Lackey (Sun Mountain Bag and Duffle Bag). Congratulations guys.

Next on the golf calendar is “The Open” . This is a three-day event, June 16th – 18th. Each day the format changes This is our last event as summer approaches and our golf calendar will kick in again in September.

The summer golf camps are in full swing. We are looking forward to seeing our little future champions back on the course The staff and I will be offering a junior camp for young golfers looking to get ready for middle/high school golf This camp will follow the summer camp schedule dates, but this camp will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 5–6:30pm.
