November 2021

Dear MCC Members, A quick thank you to everyone who participated in the 2021 MCC Member Survey. I still await the results, but they should be available very soon. Once finalized, I will post a link for ALL members to review. As the holidays approach, keep the club in mind for your Christmas event. Also, what do you get your fellow member who has everything? Consider a gift certificate from MCC in any amount. We simply charge your account and print a certificate for your gift. We can even specify which department – F & B, fitness, golf, tennis, etc. Even one step further, perhaps consider a membership for a child (once vetted), with our Legacy Memberships, one can be very affordable.

Lastly, please make plans to join us on Saturday, December 4th for the 75th Anniversary Member Holiday Party from 7-9pm with an afterparty until midnight. Fireworks will start a little after 9. The House Committee along with staff have been planning all year long. The party is for adult members only; reservations will be taken on a limited basis. It will be a party NOT to be missed. Lastly, the Club will again be requesting $35 from membership for our annual employee Holiday Bonus. You will see the $35 charge on your November statement. On behalf of myself and the staff, thank you so much for allowing us to serve such a wonderful membership all year long. I look forward to seeing you around your club, Jeff

GOLF AT MCC The Two Man and Two Woman Championship are officially in the books. Each event had amazing weather, so no excuses due to weather. Patrick Affolder and his crew did an amazing job getting the golf course ready for both events with many compliments from the members and guests. And of course, big thank you to Chef Temoshi and Veronica’s team for providing great food and service. In the Two Woman Championship, the team of Abbey Ater and Tammy McGinnis were victorious, finishing at seven points below their quota. In second place, the team of Marianne Seal and Mary Priest finished ten points below their quota. In the Two Man Championship, Flight One, the team of Foued Abboud and Tony Trad Jr. held on to win despite the final day charge from the second place team Rogelio Garza and Brian Humphreys. In Flight Two, the team of Sunil Wadhwani and Matt Toney won by two points over the second place team of Dr. Sam Garcia and Armando Gomez. In Flight Three, the team of Jorge Kamel and Jonathan Wehrmeister charged up the leaderboard to claim first place. The team of Bradley Stephens and John Tippit played well finishing in second. Tournament information can be found for the men on the website; www.mcc-2021twomanchampionship.golfgenius.com. GGID : JYNRKT and for the women on the website; www.mcc-20212womanchampionship.golfgenius.com GGID : NFKHSP. The Golf Shop has a new assistant pro, Pablo Bocanegra. Pablo comes to us via San Antonio, where he worked at the Dominion Country Club. His family lives in Edinburg, so it was an easy transition back to Valley life. Please stop by the golf shop and say hello. There will be a beginner women’s golf class starting November 9th. It will run every Tuesday morning at 9am, except for November 23rd, for five weeks. The class will be one hour and fifteen minutes long and include basic golf instruction, terminology and how to play on the course. Find a friend and sign up. Everyone was a beginner at one point so give it a try. Cost will be $30 per player per day. Mike Next on the tournament schedule is: Millennium Cup - November 13th and 14th Tour Championship – November 20th Winter Member/Member – December 11th and 12th

Dear Members, Fall season is here come and enjoy some time on the court. On Saturday, November 20th MCC is hosting it’s U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s Doubles Championships. Attention to all Pickleballers: Court 7 nearest to the Parking Lot, now has permanent Pickleball lines painted in yellow on the court. I hope you will give Pickleball a try. The shop has all the equipment to get started. On Saturday, October 16th MCC hosted our Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament, where we had seven Ladies Teams compete in our 10 game round robin event. All matches were enjoyable to watch, the weather was fantastic, and the competition was for a good cause. Congratulations to the winners and second place finishers. First place went to Paulina Gonzalez and Karla Ramirez with a point total of 47 and second place goes to Marianne Wong and Christina Pena with a score of 37 points. See you all on the courts, Rudi
