October Newsletter 2023

Dear MCC Members,

The search for a new Director of Racquets continues. I have narrowed the field to a few very good candidates. I hope to have a new director in place in November.

RAC (Racquet and Aquatic Center) continues to be open through October with the same hours of operation as summer. Please find time to join us for some swimming, tennis, pickleball, dining, or just come hang out. Also, bring the kids to enjoy the new outdoor play set near the RAC. Be safe.

By the time you read this, the new Fitness Equipment will be in place. My apologies for the last equipment in place for so long, but with COVID, new TECHNOGYM equipment was hard to obtain. Hopefully, the equipment will be replaced every three years as originally planned.

If you haven’t signed up for CLUBSTER, please do so. The app helps us communicate directly to your phone.

We continue with a full membership with a waitlist. As I have stated many times: what a great time to be a member of McAllen Country Club. With that, I look forward to seeing you around your club,

Welcome

Dear MCC Members,

I’m pleased to share that after a period of adjustment, beef fajita prices have stabilized and will be gradually lowering.

As we welcome the crisp embrace of a new season, we’re equally thrilled to introduce a range of menu additions. By popular demand, we’re bringing back three favorites: the Butter Chicken, Veal Chops, and the Lasagna Bolognese. Alongside this, we’re also reintroducing some well-received Thursday night dinner features.

In addition, we’re excited to inform you that the pool experience continues to evolve based on your invaluable feedback and preferences. Your suggestions have been instrumental in shaping the enhancements to the pool house. As part of our rebranding of the RAC (Racquet and Aquatic Center), menus will adapt to complement the evolving offerings and experiences.

From hearty autumn feasts to the comforting warmth of fall, we invite you to savor each seasonal shift as we bring you new tastes inspired by nature’s rhythm.

Dear MCC Members,

The All Valley Women’s Golf Association held their monthly tournament at McAllen Country Club on September 13th. We had a few of our super stars competing in the event: Jody Jones, Sharon Martin, Paik-hee Nam, Marianne Seal, Olga Gonzalez, Catherine Sanchez, Keesha Zey and Jacquie Johnson. In Flight One, Paik-hee Nam placed second low net. In Flight Two, Olga Gonzalez and Sharon Martin placed first - low gross and low net respectively. In Flight Three, Jacquie Johnson placed first low net and had the only chip-in for the day. Jody Jones placed second low gross. Paik-hee Nam won the putting total needing only 26 putts in her round. Jacquie Johnson and Sharon Martin tied for second with 29 putts each. Rounding out fourth was Olga Gonzalez needing only 31 putts in her round. Congratulations women and thank you all for always doing your best.

The Working Man’s Weekend Golf Tournament was held on September 16th - 17th. It was a round-robin tournament that consisted of five nine-hole matches played over the weekend. In Flight One, Aaron Rivera and Dr. Andy Saenz played exceptionally well and won their flight. Mark Southwell and Roland Gonzalez came in second place. Ben Smith and John Kittleman narrowly won Flight Two after a close competition with Sunil Wadhwani and Sameer Wadhwani. Neil Chavez and Hernan Mireles emerged as the winners of Flight Three. Jorge Kamel and Jonathan Wehrmeister finished as runners-up. The winners of each flight advanced to the sudden death shootout to determine the grand champion. On the first playoff hole, Hernan Mireles had to make a 15-foot putt from off the green to advance and drained it. The second playoff hole was very tense and difficult for the players. The match eventually came down to putting, where Neil Chavez delivered his best stroke and won the tournament. Congratulations to Chavez and Mireles for becoming the grand champions of the tournament. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the tournament. For the full tournament results, please visit our website at www.mcc2023workingmansweekend.golfgenius.com. The GGID for the event is TAAYXA.

Captain Chuck Gomez will lead a team of brave men to compete against Harlingen Country Club in our annual Ryder Cup matches. The two-day event will take place in October, with Day 1 at Harlingen CC on October 14th and Day 2 at McAllen CC on October 15th. As the dates approach, we will share more details through Clubster, Instagram, and email. Let’s show our support for MCC!

He also has Vulcan pickleball in his portfolio and we are hoping to have some of their equipment to demo as well.

Do not forget about getting your racquet restrung if the strings are starting to get a little loose or you are not playing your best. There will be some demo tennis racquets soon for everyone to try. Dunlop has the premier tennis balls and are featured in all the major tournaments.
