Quintin Slovek

Quintin Slovek is a fourth-generation Omahan with a master’s degree focused on early 20th century American pop culture. Quintin has been a guest-lecturer for Omaha Public Schools’ award-winning Making Invisible Histories Visible program, an assistant artist and historical researcher for the South Omaha Mural Project and an Old Market tour guide. His interests include labor and immigration history; Prohibition and organized crime; and collecting the merchandise of old-school Omaha restaurants, breweries and other institutions.
Don Hickey Called “the dean of 1812 scholarship” by the New Yorker, Dr. Don Hickey is an award-winning author who has written 11 books and more than 100 articles, mainly on the War of 1812. Recently retired from Wayne State College, he has consulted extensively with numerous government agencies and museums, including the National Park Service and the National Portrait Gallery. He appears in several documentary films, including PBS’s “The War of 1812.”
Kristine Gerber Kristine Gerber graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney where her journalism major gave her a love of meeting people and telling their stories. For the past 25 years, Kristine has shared the history of Omaha and its built environment through publications, events and advocacy work. Pottery classes for kids and teens with Vanessa Piper Vanessa Piper found her passion for pottery while attending Omaha North High School. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in pottery from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. She has received two Silver Key Awards in pottery from the Scholastic Art Awards, as well as an honorable mention at Bellevue University. Vanessa has 25 years of experience focusing on different techniques with clay, glazes and firing. She currently owns her own pottery studio and is very active in the arts community, showing her work in juried art shows and local art fairs.

Adult Education
MCC Adult Education offers noncredit instruction to students in the Omaha metro area who are seeking to develop their basic skills, earn a GED or increase their literacy as a non-English speaker. Visit mccneb.edu/AdultEducation for more information. • Fee-free GED (General Education Development) classes prepare adults for the nationally standardized test of high school equivalency. • MCC is authorized by GED Testing Service to provide official GED testing; there is a fee for the high school diploma and a testing fee. • The ESL (English as a Second Language) program offers free noncredit learning options for students who need to develop English language proficiency. • ESL participants must be 18 years of age or older, a Nebraska resident (U.S. citizenship is not required) and complete a language assessment to determine appropriate placement. • Computer classes and conversational English classes are available at MCC South Express.

Payment is due at the time of registration.
Refunds
An automatic refund is made if MCC cancels a class. To withdraw your registration before a class starts, please call 531-MCC-5231. Refunds will be issued to students who drop a class at least one business day (14 days for tours) prior to the class start date. No refunds will be issued for classes dropped on or after the class start date. Refunds for international travel experiences vary. Specific terms and conditions will be listed on the travel packet for that international experience.
