McKeller Knox recommends Brook Valley Country Club: "We got married here in November 2019 and it was absolutely wonderful! We planned the wedding in five and a half months and couldn’t have done it without Mr. David! He was so easy to work with and answered any questions we had leading up to the wedding with a very quick response time. He made sure everything the day of the wedding was perfect. Mr. David knows what he is doing and is phenomenal at his job! The food was excellent and so many guests complimented it even weeks after the wedding. Our wedding was beautiful thanks to Brook Valley’s team!"

OPERATION 36 The biggest announcement for our 2020 Junior Program will be the introduction of OPERATION 36 here at Brook Valley. Assistant Professional Hobe Collins will be heading up this initiative that will be a huge asset to not only our Junior Program, but potentially all Golf Programs here at the club. Operation 36 has become one of the world’s most effective programs based on a combination of instruction, technology, and most importantly play in introducing new golfers to the game. What sets Op 36 apart from others is its blend of On Course Play, Clinic style instruction, and utilization of everyday technology. Instead of starting at the full length tee box, golfers will begin in Division 1 (25 yards). This means they will play 9 holes starting 25 from each green. The challenge is to shoot 36 or better. If they do, they will progress to Division 2, and start 50 yards from each green on their next round. This process will continue all the way back to full tee box divisions. On course play will be scheduled on a Bi-Weekly basis. On a weekly basis, juniors will make friends and learn skills through fun engaging classes. This will give the young golfer a chance to learn basic fundamentals in an interactive group environment. The Op 36 curriculum revolves around making sure learning the game feels like a game. To tie all this together, junior golfers will use the Op 36 Mobile App. In short, this app is designed to allow juniors and their families to review their goals and education, provide a playing and practice guide, and ultimately stay connected with the golf staff and their progress. New golfers will feel success from day one – helping our sport to retain new golfers that are having more fun on the course. All of this being said, Operation 36 is providing the development model, but will be ran by the Brook Valley Golf Staff. All golf activities will take place here at our facility. More details will be announced as we officially launch Operation 36 in early spring. In the meantime, do not hesitate to contact a member of the Golf Shop staff for more information. If you would like to learn more about operation 36, use the web address below for “What is Operation 36” video.

GREETINGS BVCC MEMBERS 2020 is here and it seems we are trying to warm up. The three-hole system on the greens is working out well and with the help of our outstanding Pro we were able to make another rotation of locations prior to spring. Two projects in the works are the updates to the interior of the bathrooms and the removal of the gravel contaminated sand in the chipping green bunker. The bathrooms have been a collaborative effort between the maintenance staff and our exceptional clubhouse maintenance personnel Chris Mabe. The interiors are phase one of a total upgrade for the entire bathhouse and new landscaping. The chipping green bunker project will commence soon and all of the gravel/sand will be removed. Liners will be installed over the drainage and new sand will be distributed. We are inching closer to spring and moving away from dangerous cold temperature and weather. If we manage to keep the snow and ice away, I feel the course will be in great shape for green up and the beginning of a great year. Thank you for all your support and as always, feel free to contact me with questions or concerns about you course. Thank You, Owen Legg, Superintendent
2019 BROOK VALLEY EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR BEN MARSHALL— Assistant Superintendent One special part of working at McConnell Golf is the team environment required to fill customer service and satisfy high expectations. While all team members contribute to accomplishing company goals and standards, some stand out as exceptional in their daily duties. Selecting just one “Employee of the Year” at a McConnell Golf Property from our team of outstanding employees is not an easy task. We are fortunate to have so many. We are proud to announce for the year of 2019, Golf Course Assistant Superintendent Ben Marshall was named Brook Valley Employee of the Year. Ben has been working at Brook Valley for two and a half years and has proved himself to be a tremendous asset to the maintenance team. Bens “can-do attitude” and positive influence has been a huge asset in the face of demanding and challenging conditions. His leadership has time and time again proven to accomplish goals that are in keeping with the high quality and standards of McConnell Golf. Ben continues to excel in his level of knowledge and agronomic skills and has had a lasting impact on the course and the rest of the maintenance department. We are thankful to have Ben Marshall on our team and are proud to name him 2019 Employee of the Year.

COOKIES OF THE MONTH

March 2020 I “Heath Bar Cookie” I Ron Gordils – Old North State Club Growing up my great grandmother would always hand out heath bars for the holidays. That and a five dollar bill for every birthday, Christmas and even Easter card she would hand out J . She has been gone for a few years now but anytime I have a heath bar I think of her. This cookie is a delicious balance of cookie dough and heath bar crunch. Enjoy! Ingredients: 2 ½ Cups All-Purpose Flour 1 TSP Salt 1 Cup (2 sticks) Unsalted Butter ¾ Cup Brown Sugar 2 Eggs 1 TSP Vanilla 1 ½ Cups Chopped Heath Bar pieces (Eight 1.4 ounce bars) ½ Cup Chopped Walnuts
1 TSP Baking Soda ¾ Cup Granulated Sugar
Directions: Whisk dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside. In a separate bowl, combine Heath Bar pieces and chopped walnuts. Set aside. Whisk butter, sugars, vanilla, then add eggs: In a large bowl, beat together the butter, brown and white sugars, and vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Make and chill dough: Add the flour mixture a third at a time, beating after each addition. Beat in the Heath bar walnut mixture. Chill cookie dough for at least 30 minutes (better an hour or longer). Spoon out dough balls onto cookie sheet: Preheat oven to 350°F. On cookie sheets lined with parchment paper or Silpat, spoon out the cookie dough in small 1-inch diameter balls (size of a large marble). Leave ample space because they do spread. Bake: Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are just starting to brown. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes.
