ELLIS MAPLES INVITATIONAL RESULTS CONGRATULATIONS WILL BRINSON & MARK HOCH YOUR 2021 ELLIS MAPLES INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS! Our 2021 Member-Guest kicked off on Thursday with our Preliminary Round. Congratulations to Lee Mulkey and Wes Barnes on shooting an impressive 62 to win this year's contest. During Thursday night's festivities, Tyler Curlee won the chipping contest and the putting contest was won by Will Brinson after he drained the 50 foot putt down the hill! We amazingly avoided all rain to have an awesome two days of matches to determine our Flight Winners and set the field for the Ellis Maples Invitational Shoot-Out. Congratulations to the following flight winners: Maples Flight - Matt Aldridge & Shane Nichols Ross Flight - Jeff Cargile & Joe Bland Palmer Flight - Cam Edwards & Josh Wentz Fazio Flight - Will Brinson & Mark Hoch Dye Flight - Kirk Rogerson & Derek Pszenny Norman Flight - Carl Augustson & Tanner Chilton Irwin Flight - Rod Johnson & Al Pridgen Price Flight - Kenneth Smith & Bruce Sasser Our Flight Winners met on the 9th tee box for a three hole shoot-out to detemine this year's champs. Three teams were eliminated on #9 after some great play to start the event, no one scored worse than a 5 on the opening hole. The Palmer, Dye, and Irwin Flights were all the first to exit the field. On #10, three more teams were eliminated including the Ross Flight, Norman Flight, and Price Flight to set up the finale on #18 between the Maples Flight and Fazio Flight. On 18, Matt Aldridge and Shane Nichols took on Will Brinson and Mark Hoch to see who would be this year's champs. All four players barely missed the green, leaving it up to a chipping and putting game to determine the champs. After Will Brinson blasted it close from the sand from behind the green, partner Mark Hoch narrowly missed chipping in to secure a net birdie for the team and become the 2021 Ellis Maples Invitational Champions! Use the link below to access the official "Event Portal" for this year's Ellis Maples Invitational. TURF TALK
Let's Talk Turf Fall is here, with leaves plenty of leaves and pine needles for all. While it can be a pretty season it does make maintenance challenging. We are doing our best to keep the course clear of debris for your golfing pleasure. Managing debris is not the only thing happening, we have some projects coming too! Over the next couple of months you will see a lot of construction taking place. The bridge across the pond on the 18th hole has needed new supports for some time. We had the entire bridge evaluated by an engineer this past summer. It was determined the concrete slabs on the bridge were solid and did not need replacing. The railings and the pylons however, do need to be replaced. This work is scheduled to begin the first week of November. During this time cart traffic will be rerouted to the bridge on hole 10. If all goes well, the work should not last past November. In December we have another project planned on hole 13. Some of you may remember the sinkhole in front of 13 green. After some investigation we determined the sink hole was caused by a failed drain pipe. The pipe carries storm water from the street to the creek. The City of Greenville has determined the pipe is their responsibility and will be performing the majority of the work on this project. We will work with them and make certain the finished grade and sod meets our golf course requirements. Many thanks to Kevin Mulligan with the City of Greenville. He has been a pleasure to work with on this project. We look forward to the finished product! Please do keep in mind, after the sod is laid we will have to wait until late spring to cut it down to fairway height. We will get it dialed in as soon as the grass starts actively growing. Projects are not the only thing happening this fall and winter. The McConnell organization has also provided us with a few more key pieces of equipment. With delays in manufacturing around most of the planet, we don’t expect immediate delivery. We expect to see most of the new equipment on our property, as it is built, stretching between November of 2021 and May of 2022. We are working through exciting times at the Valley. Everything we do this fall and winter is aimed at making 2022 the best golfing season ever! We are always striving to give you the golf course you deserve. Until next time, I’ll see you on the course. Buckley Brockmann Brook Valley Superintendant

Contributing to the fund is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation to our heroes – our awesome staff who have truly excelled during these unprecedented times! This includes our staff members from the front of the house to the back of the house, and all those helping hands who work behind-the-scenes. Thank you. While contributing to the fund is voluntary, adjustments to the fund received by November 30, 2021 will be reflected on your December statement. The contribution will then be distributed among all Brook Valley Country Club employees throughout all departments.
MCCONNELL GOLF, THE MAGAZINE
Show off original photos that highlight your experiences at our clubs to be featured in the next issue of McConnell Golf, The Magazine. We encourage you to highlight photos at club events such as holiday parties, golf events, swim meets, family photos, wildlife and more! In addition to submitting your photo, we ask that you add a brief description for context purposes. Do you know a McConnell Golf member or employee who works hard and makes a difference in their local community? We want to hear from you on who the spotlight should be on in the next issue. Please include the nominee's name, home club and 3-5 sentences explaining why they deserve to be featured in McConnell Golf, The Magazine in the body of the email. Beyond club snapshots and spotlight nominations, if you have an idea or would like to contribute to the magazine in some way, we welcome your input! Email your submissions and any ideas to finman@mcconnellgolf.com.
