TEE IT UP By now, I hope everyone is ready for springtime. It has for sure been a cold, wet, windy winter here in Asheville. Hopefully, by the time this article has hit the press and is in your hands, we are past the cold temperatures and working our way into the warmer weather of spring!! With that being said, please take a moment to visit the club’s website and view the golf calendar for 2021. There you will find all of our events as well as where you will go to register for each event you wish to participate in this year. Most all of our events have online registration and that typically begins 30 days from the tournament date. Also, we are currently working to get our Spring Fitting Days with all of the club companies that we carry in the Golf Shop. Be on the lookout for those days and times in the near future! Many of you have enjoyed using our SkyTrak once again this winter and we hope you feel it has been a good addition to the club. In my opinion, it is the perfect teaching and learning environment and I hope to turn it more into a full-time teaching studio like many of the top instructors in the game of golf have and use for their lessons year-round. As always, keep in mind that when bad weather is in the forecast, the hour time blocks for SkyTrak fill up fast!! We would like welcome Ross Lally to the golf department as the new Assistant Golf Professional. We are confident he will be a great asset to our team!

As we get closer to warmer weather and the 2021 Golf Season, it is important to keep in mind some of the rules and regulations of the club and McConnell Golf. While we continue to deal with and battle COVID-19, there are still a few notes to keep in mind: General Rule #7: all food & beverages, including alcohol, consumed on club grounds must be furnished by the club, not brought from home. Attire: Shirts are to be tucked in at all times, hats are to be worn in a forward-facing position when on the golf course and/or practice facility, and changing shoes in the parking lot is strongly discouraged. Hats should not be worn in the club dining room areas during regular business hours. General Golf Rules #16: No personal coolers are permitted on club grounds Registration: All members & guests are required to check-in with the Golf Shop prior to their round (this is very important in regards to the accuracy of your monthly bill) General Golf Cart/Pull Cart Rule #6: Only 2 golf carts per group unless otherwise approved by the Head Golf Professional. If you are a twosome, only 1 cart is permitted in the group. General Golf Cart/Pull Cart Rule #10: When carts are under the 90* Rule, carts should enter the fairway where the fairway begins and exit the fairway on the cart path side no closer than 30 yards from the green or where Brandon has posted our black painted wooded exit posts General Golf Cart/Pull Cart Rule #12: Golf Carts & Pull Carts should be parked between the green being played and the tee off the next hole to promote faster play. Pull carts are not allowed on tee boxes or fringe/collars of the putting green Handicaps #7: For all major club tournaments, the primary member and/or spouse are eligible to participate. Dependents under the age of 25 are not eligible to participate in club events or MCG events. If you have any questions or need further explanation of any of these, please don’t hesitate to ask us.

CRUNCHY CHEWY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES James R. Patterson III – Sedgefield Country Club

Ingredients 8oz. Unsalted Butter, at room temperature 1 ¼ Cups Granulated Sugar 2/3 Cup Light Brown Sugar 1 Egg 1/2 TSP Vanilla Extract 1 ½ Cups All Purpose Flour 1/2 TSP Baking Powder 1/2 TSP Baking Soda 1 ½ TSP Kosher Salt 3 Cups Cornflake Crunch (below) 2/3 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips 1 ¼ Cups Mini Marshmallows

THE HICKORY STICK

Directions: 1. Using a Paddle on your Stand Mixer, combine the butter and sugars in the bowl and cream together on medium-high for 2 to 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, add the egg and vanilla, and beat for an additional 7 to 8 minutes. 2. Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until the dough comes together, no longer than 1 minute. (Do not walk away from the machine during this step, or you will risk over-mixing the dough.) Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula. 3. Still on low speed, paddle in the cornflake crunch and mini chocolate chips just until they’re incorporated, no more than 30 to 45 seconds. Paddle in the mini marshmallows just until incorporated. 4. Scoop and roll 1 ½ oz. dough balls and place onto a parchment-lined sheet pan. Pat the tops of the cookie dough domes flat. Wrap the sheet pan tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to 1 week. Do not bake your cookies from room temperature—they will not hold their shape. 5. Heat the oven to 350°F. 6. Arrange the chilled dough a minimum of 3 inches apart on parchment-lined sheet pans. Bake for 14 minutes. The cookies will puff, crackle, and spread. At the 12minute mark, the cookies should be browned on the edges and just beginning to brown toward the center. If they still seem pale and doughy on the surface, leave them in the oven for an additional minute or so. 7. Cool the cookies completely on the sheet pans before transferring to a plate or to an airtight container for storage. At room temperature, the cookies will keep fresh for 5 days; in the freezer, they will keep for 1 month.
