CCAbuzz Look who’s talking about CC of Asheville! Please enjoy a few of our favorite mentions below and keep sharing your experiences by tagging us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for a chance to be featured in the next newsletter.

@branf18 We are excited. The kids are not!!!

@ashevillemike #homecourse I might not be great, but I love the game of #golf @countryclubofasheville

Taylor Ledbetter Rhyne We had our wedding here in September and it was PERFECT. The Director of Events, Liz DeKoyer is such an amazing person to work with. She handled every detail on the day of and made the pre-planning process a breeze. The location is perfect and the view for our ceremony and pictures are to die for! Chef Bruce and his amazing culinary team made the best meal I’ve probably ever had (the pecan chicken and macaroni bites are 110% the way to go). I could not recommend this venue and team more! Definitely book your wedding here, you will not regret it! @m_alexander Happy Easter! While we are missing our normal Easter traditions, we have enjoyed our day together! A huge thank you to the @countryclubofasheville for providing us with a wonderful Easte lunch and treats from the Easter Bunny!

TEE IT UP

HOLE IN ONE!

Well, to say the last few months has not been a weird time for us all would be a HUGE understatement. I sincerely hope that by the time this article hits the press and is in your hands, things have started to get back to some sort of normalcy. If not, remember, we are all in this together and our staff is trying to do their best to keep safe but also provide you with some sort of outlet from all the distractions that COVID-19 has brought to you and your families.

A big applause to Bill Winkler on hole #6 from 116 yds with a 9-iron on March 15.

Kevin O’Connor on hole #6 on March 18. Way to go!

In writing this article, I find it tough to know what to say. There hasn’t been any major golf events at the club or in the world for that matter. Normally, we are discussing how great The Masters were and getting ready for the PGA Championship and the US Open. Normally, we are passing along winners of our events we held in March and April. For now, we are just passing along good vibes and positive hopes. As for golf at CCA, we appreciate your patience with how both Golf and Clubhouse Ops have been affected by COVID-19 and patience with the guidelines we have had to work under. As we push forward, we will continue to update you with anything and everything we hear about COVID-19 and how it is effecting golf, the company, and our industry. Many feel like this virus will have lasting impressions on how we do things within the game going forward. As for our Golf Operations, below is our events listed below for May and June. Our hope is to be able to put these on in some capacity. With regards to both personal and group instruction, we will play all of that by ear as well. By the time you read this, both I and my staff hope you have been and still are safe and none of your loved ones have been affected by this terrible virus. In the meantime, get outside & walk the course, stay safe and enjoy the warmer weather!

TURF TALK with Brandon Ingle

BALL MARKS & DIVOTS: As the weather becomes more pleasant, the rounds of golf will increase. As rounds increase, ball marks and divot will as well. The staff and I fix ball marks and check to make sure sand containers are readily available daily as part of course set up to help aid in the recovery process. A ball mark or divot that has not been properly fixed, it can take weeks to heal, whereas a ball mark or divot that is fixed properly can completely heal in a fraction of that time. The negative effect of un-repaired ball marks and divots will increase the probability of experiencing unsatisfactory playing conditions. BUNKERS: Bunkers are deemed to be hazards and should increase the difficulty of how a golf hole is played. I do feel that each player should be aware of the condition they leave the bunker after a shot has been played. If one takes the time to rake himself/herself out after a shot, it will provide the same conditions for the next member or guest. Also, you may have noticed red “T’s” beside the bunkers. This is for the maintenance staff. I have added the red “T’s” so the staff will know where to properly place the rake during course set up. SAFETY: Last but not least, I would like to bring up safety for golfers and the maintenance staff. As a leader and an employee, I make it a point to educate our staff on golf course etiquette. Knowing where, how, and when to move around the golf course when members and guests are present, allows for a safer and more enjoyable round. Please know that we do everything to try and stay out of the way of our members and their guest.

Kudos to Charles Capps on hole #13 on March 18.

Congratulations to Garrett Greene who aced #6 on April 5.

Working in hospitality means our employees love to serve and connect with people. In these times, our staff misses these interactions dearly. The support we've received from the membership however, has been overwhelming. We just wanted to say, "Thank you." Thank you for every round of golf. Every to-go order. Every email, comment, like and share. We could not do what we love to do without you, and if anything, these trying times underscore the value of community. We are so very proud to serve you, and to have built a network of clubs with your support that sustains us all in good times and bad.

COURTSIDE NEWS As I write this at the beginning of April, I am not sure what May will be bringing us but I am hopeful that threat of Covid-19 is on the decline and life is slowly returning to whatever the new normal may be. I am hopeful that we will have the outdoor courts open and playing great as usual. There won’t be any spring USTA league tennis but I will keep everyone posted on whether summer league and tournament play will be happening or not.

SUMMER CAMP! It's not too late to register for 2020 Summer Camp! We have everything from sports to art to science this year! REGISTER ONLINE AT CCOFASHEVILLE.COM OR CALL 828.258.9183 FOR MORE INFORMTATION.

Until better times, the indoor courts are open for play. We are cleaning all contact surfaces regularly to keep the area as safe as possible and have the side doors open as often as possible to keep air flow in there. Please remember to bring your own water as there are no coolers on court and the drinking fountains are not on. We recommend only playing with your quarantine group. I am not sure when junior or adult tennis clinics will start back up, but we are available for private or family group lessons. Men’s Night evening tennis is cancelled until further notice. The WTA socials will hopefully be back later this year. There is no drop in Pickleball until further notice as well. If you are coming out to play tennis or pickleball, please bring your own equipment as we have no equipment for loan.
