Our summer season has been flying by with lots of fun events and activities around the Club, Poolside, on the Tennis courts and out on the Golf course We have also been busy with membership inquiries, member referrals and tours Over May and June, we have welcomed 20 new families and 3 returning families, to the Holston Hills CC and McConnell Golf families A big thank you to the members who referred someone to us It truly makes me smile knowing that our members are proud of their club and want to share it with others.

Members, I get a lot of questions about the type of memberships we are currently offering and what access they give. Just a reminder, our current Membership Offerings Sheet and Membership Plan, is located on the Holston Hills website, under the membership section Another reminder, McConnell Golf allows you to step down and step back up to your original membership type once in the lifetime of the membership without any additional fees or penalties. A 30-day notice is required for any changes in membership. If you have any additional questions, please contact myself or Chris Dibble.

Finally, the moment a lot of you have been waiting for...drum roll...we are scheduled to take an initiation fee increase in July and another one in September Our goal is to get to a Resident Golf initiation fee of $10K upfront The increases will only effect the golfing memberships, at this current time

Thank you again for being great members, that take proud in their club If there is anything I can do to help you or your family, to make your time here with us better and more enjoyable, please swing by my office or drop me an email.

This month’s recipe is a nice refreshing Spiced Watermelon Salad You can add this side dish to any summer entrée or add it into a salad Pairs great with Balsamic Vinegar either in a vinaigrette or a reduction. You can also add in some Roasted kernels of corn, onions, jalapeno and arugula and have it with a Watermelon Corn Salad. I personally like to remove the crushed red chili peppers from the recipe and snack on it, but that is just me. You can also substitute the Chili powder for Tajin with Lime for a different twist on it

TURF TALK - HHCC BUNKER PROJECT

As I sit and write this update, we are three weeks into our bunker renovation project on the back nine The renovation is a step-by-step process that involves stripping the existing bunkers down to bare dirt, and then building them back again First and foremost, the project will focus on preserving our Ross Design as we are working closely with old aerial photography, course maps, and the original Ross drawings

Our main goals are to:

1

Make the bunkers more playable and operational through improved bunker design

2

Improve bunker drainage

3

Provide the best sand possible for playability

As we progress in the coming months, each hole is going to be at a different step in the renovation process We will have multiple teams working on certain steps to speed the process along as fast as possible Also, you must keep in mind certain steps along the way require large amounts of materials which have to be delivered in time with construction Sod for example is delivered in a quantity of 9,000 square feet per truck load This being the case, we can only install sod when we have enough area built and prepared for 9 000 square feet of sod The basic process is as follows

STEP

We defined the area of disturbance around each bunker By doing so we can calculate the amount of sand and sod we need for each bunker We measure these areas using GPS location and then upload them into a computer drawing program This area of disturbance also is the only area d th b k h k h ld b d

STEP

STEP

The final shape of the bunker is created In this step there is a lot of handwork and shaping required to get all the slopes and bunker shape just right. A lot of measurements are taken in this step to make sure water slopes away from the bunker floors The last thing we want is any water diverted into a bunker.

STEP

Drainage, and more drainage Drain lines are cut and installed across the bottom of the bunker floor. These lines are then tested multiple times to make sure water can freely flow out of the lines

STEP

2 inches of Capillary flow is added to the bunker floor to create a bearer between the native soil and the sand This two-inch layer of capillary is the “concrete” floor that creates a super drainage system in the bunker. Once installed the capillary must cure for 24 hours before sand can be installed.

Bunke n this ste

5 inches of sand is added to each bunker Later in the process the sand is compacted and checked for depth again. The goal is to have a minimum of 5 inches of compacted sand in the bunkers

Sod is installed in the disturbed areas around the bunkers Once the sod is installed, we will have a lot of watering to do each day to get the sod to grow and mature

As you can see the process is time consuming and there are a lot of steps along the way So far, I am really happy with our progress, and we are starting to get moving faster as we have more bunkers after different steps in the process We are going to continue to focus on bunker work first and foremost, but do plan to work on some tee boxes and cart paths later this summer For now, we just want to keep moving on the bunkers as fast as possible to get the entire course open for play

KFT ~ VISIT KNOXVILLE OPEN

Dear Holston Hills Country Club Members & Staff,

Thank you once again to the Holston Hills CC membership and staff. The 2024 Visit Knoxville Open once again exceeded all expectations for the 4th year in a row This was the 34th year of the Visit Knoxville Open and it remains the longest running event on the Korn Ferry Tour schedule The membership continues to welcome our tournament team’s presence all year long and then shows up strong during the tournament week The HHCC Member Suite on18 is a special place.

The entire Clubhouse staff continues to find ways to show why Holston Hills is the top Club in Tennessee and the region The golf staff continued its typical high-level service but there are also things that occur that you may not even realize. This year’s example was a live online scoring system for our pro-am leaderboard Participants were able to check in daily to see how their KFT player was competing and what their live position was on the leaderboard. The Food and Beverage team also brought a new element to player dining services. Each day the Player Dining room paid homage to all four Major Championships Each day the rooms decor and food were reminiscent of their 2024 Majors location: Thursday - PGA Championship in Lexington, KY; Friday - US Open in Pinehurst, NC; Saturday - The Open Championship in Troon, South Ayrshire; Sunday - The Masters in Augusta, GA. Well done to all the in-house staff.

The Korn Ferry Tour Players continue to praise the Donald Ross design and the playing conditions Ryan Blair and his Team prepares for them The weather was not cooperative on several occasions as we officially had three weather delays, but the course was always playable by the time the players returned to play The winning score of 19 under par is still well below the average of winning scores week to week in the KFT

The four days of competition were filled with highlights and the two-hole playoff was a great ending to the tournament Harry Higgs made an eagle putt to win for the second week in a row on the Korn Ferry Tour Three of the past 4 Visit Knoxville Open Champions, Harry Higgs, Rico Hoey and Greyson Sigg, played in the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst.

SOME ADDITONAL FACTS ABOUT SCORING AT THE 2024 VKO

(-0.645 to

(-1.098 to

Hardest hole: No. 17, par 4, with a scoring average of 4.137 (+.137 to par)

Easiest hole: No. 18, par 5, with a scoring average of 4.428 (-.572 to par)

Scoring: 27 eagles, 1810 birdies and 980 bogeys or worse for the week

We all look forward to watching the bunker renovation this summer and highly anticipate another great tournament in 2025! Sincerely,

Charlie Clarkson, Tournament Director cclarkson@tourvisionpromotions.com | 615-574-9082
